SSD for Lenovo D20

Hello,I have a Lenovo D20 with a serial CSCI (SAS) main harddrive. I haven't changed this configuration (remains as I bought it)I'd like to find1. which Crucial SSD would fit the configuration and be the proper replacement for the SAS HD.2. The steps involved in replacement: basically how to image the HD drive to the SSD, then remove HD and install the SSD. Help is greatly appreciated.thanksKal.

If you are happy using Windows 7 and the Lenovo D20, then installing an SSD would provide an evolutionary low cost upgrade. I don't know your specific needs, but from my experience a Sata III running at Sata II speeds is sufficient for general purpose computing, assuming you have a reasonable cpu, memory and video card. Windows 7 end of life is 2020, so you have a few years to look at the next generation of OS and Hardware. By that stage Windows 12 could be out and NVMe SSDs cheap as! I have Windows 10 Technical preview which is an improvement on Windows 8, but I remain unconvinced and will not move off Windows 7. The big question is what does Windows 10 give me that I don't already have with Windows 7? With a non existent Microsoft Ecosystem, the answer is very little. From my side, I am sticking with Windows 7 on a reduced number of machines and moving to Apple OS X and iOS. Not only do I get a progressive OS with free annual upgrades of OS X and iOS, but I also get an Ecosystem that links desktop(iMac)/portability(MacBook)/mobility(ipad, iphone). Now with Trimforce enable on OS X 10.10.4, it's all too easy.

  • MSATA or 2.5" SSD for Lenovo Thinkpad s230u Twist?

The Subject sort of explains itself, however I will add some more infromation for convenience sake:
Generally speaking I think of myself as fairly knowlageble about computers and their hardware. When it comes to laptops however I'm not so knowlagable, thus I would like to get a professional oppinion on the subject of SSD for laptops.
So I'm thinking of getting a Crucial m500 SSD (I'm so happy with my older m4 that I have full confidence in it's stability and speed) with 240GB of storage space, it comes in both mSATA and in the regular 2.5" x 7mm format. Thus I ask wheter or not to choose 2.5" or mSATA for my Thinkpad s230u Twist. It already has a 500Gb  Hitachi harddrive provided originaly by Lenovo, thus if I choose the mSATA I would be able to have a total of 740Gb of fast and reliable storage.
What are your oppinions on such an installation? should I just go for mSATA or choose the regular 2.5" format?
    Rainmaker91
P.S: I should probably just inform that Lenovos solutions is not an option due to it's extreme price and the drives beeing outdated. Also I don't need the Lenovo warranty and support due to the "Warranty" provided by law in my country.

I have replaced my 500GB HD with a 2.5" Samsung 830 series, 128 GB SSD. After researching the benefits of both the "Main Drive" socket and the mSATA socket, I learned that in virtually ALL Laptops, the mSATA socket is limited to only mSATA II speeds, ie. 3 GB/sec, while the Main Drive socket can handle the 6 GB/sec characteristic of the SATA III properties. This higher speed is, after all, why one would go to the trouble of replacing the Drive to begin with. I did also put a 120 GB mSATA SSD in my WWAN socket (I have an Edge 530), where I store most of my new programs for easy, fast retrieval...So, I would definitely go with the 2.5" SSD.....fruhlpmd.....

  • SSD for lenovo w520

    Hello,
I have a 2 year old w520 running windows 7 64 bit.  I want to upgrade the HDD to an SSD but I remember there were some issues with certain SSD drives not working well with these machines.  Will any of the newer intel SSD drives work ok with my laptop?
    Thanks.

I popped a newer Intel 520 in my 530, and the responsiveness is so much improved it is unbelievable.  I use my laptop for video editing, and moving large files into and out of the program is so much quicker now, pretty much instant responses.
The laptop was booting in under 30 seconds after the SSD, but now has gotten very slow, taking longer to boot than my HDD MacBook Pro.....very strange, but after it boots, it's a speed demon.  No issues, and the factory system restore disks worked to install to the SSD, unlike some system restore disks which have a heart attack if the disk size is smaller or different than the original spec HDD.......not too small, but simply smaller won't work on my HP disks.

  • Question about SSD for T61 with Linux.

Hi, I am considering purchasing a T61 with SUSE linux installed.  I had a question regarding the customization process for this laptop.  The option for adding the 64GB SSD for this laptop is not available when configuring the custom options, but it is available when customizing the Windows version.  Will Lenovo give me the option of having the SSD with the Linux configuration?
Thanks for any help in advance.

  • Best SSD for T410 at the moment?

    Hi,
    short questions:
What is the best/fastest SSD for a T410 at the moment that i can order from Lenovo?
And if i dont order the ssd from lenovo but buy one from market what is the best that fits in the 410?
T410 only supports 1,8" right? Are there any problems expected with a not lenovo certified ssd?
And is there a list of the original manufacturer of the Lenovo SSD's so i can look for Tests?
    Thank you for your help!

    The T series will have SATA 3 controllers (420, 420s, and 520).
Physical size doesn't matter for speed.
1.8" should be every bit as fast as 2.5".
The 3 things that modify speed are:
    -Capacity (bigger = faster)
    -Controller (some faster than others)
-Connection (SATA 3 SSDs work slower in SATA 2 mode)
I don't think that Intel will release 510's in 1.8", though that might change in time.
Also, in terms of the T410s, the only thing you have to worry about is battery life. You can't have a 9-cell battery in the T410s but you can in the standard T410.
You also need a 1.8" drive for the T410s IIRC whereas the T410 can take any 9.5 mm x 2.5" SSD you can throw at it (also, the T420s has will have a similar problem when it comes out since it's got a not-that-common 7mm bay but the T420 can take 9.5mm drives as normal.)

  • CE Declaration of Conformity for LENOVO KEYBOARD ThinkPad X1

I need a CE Declaration of Conformity for "LENOVO KEYBOARD ThinkPad X1 - 04W2757".
Can somebody tell me where I can find one?

    Hello Ceb,
    Thanks for your messages.
SSD is listed as INTEL SSDSA2BW160G3L.
I might try to download latest frimware directly form Intel support pages, but isn't Lenovo developing their own custom SSD firmwares ?
According to System Update and Lenovo support drivers page, all drivers are up to date.
The only thing strange to me is that neither of them are proposing Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers...
But as this computer is the one of a top management user, I just cannot afford to try to update its SSD drive firmware, risking to corrupt some precious data.

  • Default Partitions for lenovo Twist s230u

    Hello,
I have a Lenovo Twist (s230u) and need to do a system recovery. Unfortunately, neither the F11 option is working nor recovering from win 8 itself. I do not have a win8 disk (wasn't supply with the computer) !
The only option I guess is to get a win8 drive and do a clean install. Before I do this and reformat the drive, can someone tell me what to do with the different partition on the HDD and the SDD ? I see the disk is divided into multiple partitions... Even if I do a clean win 8 installation, what should I do about the 260 Mb, 1000Mb and 7 Gb partitions (EFI, recovery and recovery respectively) Are they necessary ?
What about the SSD ? Technically I guess since it is separated, it shouldn't affected.
    Thank you
    Cyril

    Hello and welcome,
Easiest - if your drive stays alive long enough - is to make a recovery flash drive and use that to restore to a new drive.
Methodology to create Recovery Media and reload a Lenovo system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload
If you have a MS Win 8 install DVD of the matching version you can just copy the contents to a FAT32-formatted flash drive and use that for a clean install.  The license is in BIOS and shoud be picked up.  (CAVEAT: I've done installs from flash, but not verified that the license is picked up.)
Note that the copy-to-flash install works for MS media but not for Lenovo recovery DVDs.
Worst case: use a USB DVD drive.  Worst, worst case: purchase recovery DVDs from Lenovo support _and_ use an external drive.

  • Extra ssd in Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 72 SFF

    Hi.
Is it possible to add a extra ssd disk in a Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 72 SFF?

Regarding memory - buy Samsung / Hynix / Crucial - these are what lenovo mainly uses. Don't worry about latency.
No point in buying GPU that needs 6 pin connector to use with E72. Please check if you really have 180W PSU or 280W PSU (presuming it is tower). If 280W, you are OK. If 180W you ll have to replace PSU for use with discrete graphics. I would suggest GF GTX 750 Ti (check the length). Make sure you can return parts if it doesn't work for you ...

  • Recommended SSD for x121e

    Can anyone recommend a 120Gb SSD for a x121e?
    Cheers
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello,
I have had good results with Crucial, Corsair, Intel, Kingston, MyDigitalSSD and OCZ SSDs in various ThinkPads I have used.
My understanding is that any "standard" 9.5 mm-high 2.5" SSD that operates at SATA rev 2.0 (3.0Gb/s) speeds will fit into the X121e, however, you might want to consider getting a "shorter" 7mm-high SSD in case you want to re-use the SSD in the future in a computer which only has a 7mm high drive bay.  A 7mm high drive fits just fine into a 9.5mm high drive bay, and there's no difference in cost, as the only difference between models is the plastic or metal shell surrounding the circuit board that makes up the SSD.  Likewise, you can also get a faster SATA rev. 3.0 (6.0Gb/s) SSD, but it will only operate at the slower 3.0Gb/s speed.

  • HDD for lenovo Twist

Could you please recommand me some compatible HDD for Lenovo Twist? The hdd went dead. looking to 7200 RPM with 500 - 1000 GB capacity.
    Thank you very much.

    Hello,
Any 2.5" 7mm high HDD should work, which are a little less common than the 9.5mm high drives normally used in notebook computers, but becoming more common.  The S230u's FRU List gives the following part numbers and models:
    04W0570 - B500 Toshiba
    04W0576 - C320AF Seagate
    04W0582 - 7200RPM SATA 320GB 7.0mm AF 6Gb/s Toshiba AQUARIUS-C SLIM-320
    04W0583 - 7200RPM SATA 500GB 7.0mm AF 6Gb/s Toshiba AQUARIUS-C SLIM-500
    04W0592 - 5400RPM 500GB 7.0mm 6Gb/s WD MN500S-500
    04W3923 - 5400 JAGUAR-B7 500
    04W3926 - 5400 MN500S 500GB
    04W3927 - 7200 JAGUAR-C7 320
    04W3929 - 7200 JAGUAR-C7 500
You could also use a 2.5" 7mm high SSD as well, although if you do, you should not enable the iRST or ExpressCache caching with the mSATA SSD as it will actually slow things down.  You could still use the mSATA SSD as a small secondary drive for backups, etc.

    Aryeh Goretsky

Just to confirm. I recently upgraded my secondary SSD drive inside the Lenovo Yoga 13 from Samsung 512GB to a 1TB Samsung msata SSD and it works like a charm.
I also upgraded the primary SSD to a 512GB drive, so I now have a total of 1,5TB SSD diskspace at my disposal in my original Lenovo Yoga 13.
