Hi,
For encypted HDD, yes, user have to logon to the HDD before the machine startups the OS.

Can I install a mSATA ssd in my HP ENVY 17t-k000 CTO Notebook PC? Added a 250 gb SATA sdd and 8 gb memory chip today but could not find any way to also add a 250 gb mSATA sdd. I looked on the front and back side of the system board.
Should I return the Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD I bought from Newegg?

The Service Manual is no help whatsoever. It says an M.2 mSSD is supported on "select models" but there is no picture of it in the Manual or indication where it is on the "Select Models". Those that do have it use an M.2 version (three connector prongs not 2) so your 840 Evo would not work even if you had one of the "Select Models". I believe on those that have it the M.2 port is right on the motherboard so if you do not see it there you are not among the select.

  • TriDef 3D can't recognize 3D Monitor on HP ENVY 17t-3000 CTO Notebook PC

Is there a Monitor driver for the  HP ENVY 17t-3000 CTO Notebook PC?  when trying to run the 14-day trial version of TriDef3D 6.3, it says
Please connect to a 3D compatible display (00300136)
When checking the driver for the monitor, it says Generic PNP Monitor.  I can't find a driver for it.
I am running the latest display driver from HP.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-114562-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
I have been trying to use the drivers from the AMD website in order to get the support for the latest games, but it does not accurately detect the correct video card chip and installs the wrong driver.
I have a Radeon (TM) HD 7690M XT according to Device Manager when using the HP driver.
Your ideas of how to resolve these issues are much appreciated.
Update:  I opened it and figured out the monitor model number:
    LP173WF1(TL)(B4)
None selling this screen model is touting 3D, just Full HD.  Looks like the fellow who sold it to me was also duped into believing he was buying a 3D model online, but was sold a 2D model.  He didn't know how to use the 3D anyway (difficulty level with TriDef is advanced) so never tested or viewed 3D on this laptop.
Would it be possible to swap this screen with a 3D model on this machine?

    Hi @WingedPaladin,
    Thank you for your information.
When I did some searching with the serial number, I was unable to display any additional information.  which usually means that because it is a CTO model that the information has not been entered into our system.
However the product number did provide that it was  a refurbished unit.
I know you stated you had a difficultly opening the notebook to check the motherboard for the 50 pin connection.   The maintnenace  guide should have a  section on removals.  If you were unsuccessful I would try again.
Another thing to check is the properties of the graphic card installed, as it would also need to support 3D.
You may wish to contact HP support for assistance, as they can remotely access your system to be able to check things out.

  • Need to get graphics to work on HP Envy 17t-3000 CTO

Please bear with me. I'm not very tech savvy but am great at following directions to solve problems.
I received a used HP Envy 17t-3000 CTO laptop with 750 GB...i7 - 2670 QM...6GB...64 Bit. with no restore on it to get back to original config.
I received it updated to Windows 8.1 Pro which didn't allow video drivers to work (Intel HDGraphics 3000 and AMD 7690M XT switchable graphics).
I installed Windows 7 Home Premium back on it (originally on it when made) from an ISO download on line.
My problem is that I need to know exactly what drivers in which order to download on top of Win 7 install to get switchable graphics display to work as it's still not working with 8.1 Pro removed. I currently have a black screen and only see the screen with HDMI connected to the tv.
I need to be sure I am downloading all the needed drivers for it to work properly ASAP as I have a time limit to return it if that isn't the problem / isn't fixable / is a hardware problem.
I really want to keep it if it is fixable with correct driver installations and I don't have time to order restore disc from HP before my return window is closed.
So, can someone please help me and list the drivers in order of installation for my laptop?
    Thanks!
PS: When I reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium from my burned ISO file does that remove all the drivers I tried to install before that aren't working? If not...how do I do that? I want to start over beginning with the Win 7 install followed by the correct drivers in correct order....back to original config.

I just had BIOS upgrade (which took 3 tries to install) and then windows update, then tried to update the realtek driver and nothing helps.  I am thinking the wireless NIC is defective... I read other posts about Intel nic working better, but what do I do about what I have?? ARRRGGGGGG  HELP!

  • Volume Profiles On my Envy 17t-2100

I would like to know if there was a way to get volume profiles on my Envy 17. Most laptops have volume profiles. Say for instance when you plug in headphones and your speaker volume is 100%, the volume difference will get changed to say like 20% when you plug in your headphones. This option does not seem to be built into the dirver software (From what I can tell). I have been looking for this option all over this laptop since day 1 when I bought it and it is just getting really aggravating because everytime I plug in my headphones, I ALWAYS forget to turn the volume down. Is there a solution or a third-party solution that anyone knows about?

    Hi @poonkabob
Welcome to the HP Forums! You are correct that there are only drivers for Windows 7 for your model. Try downloading the HP Support Assistant and then run it to check for any driver updates that maybe compatible with Windows 8.1. This hp document Using HP Support Assistant will show you how to do that. Windows should find some additional drivers on it's own as well.
After you have done that check your Device Manager after doing that and see if there are any driversc with an exclamation mark. Let me know what the hardware IDs are for those and I will see if I can find a compatible Windows 8.1 driver.

  • BIOS flash memory access on HP Envy 17t-2100

Hello, I own a ENVY 17 (sku: LM125AAR), and am looking for any information available about how to read/write the flash memory.
Right now all I want to do is to be able to dump the current firmware to a file (perhaps later I will try the risky stuff).
So I would like to know where the flash memory is attached to (I can't open the laptop... yet...), and in case it's attached to some nasty custom controller, how could I do reads and writes safely.

  • Sound not working on my HP ENVY 17t-3200 CTO 3D Edition Notebook PC. Help!

My laptop recently installed 20 or so Microsoft updates when I last restarted. Now, there is no sound coming out of the speakers or headphones even though the system shows that it should be functioning properly. It seems like a number of people are having this problem as well and I see a potential solution for Windows 8. I, however, am running Windows 7. All the troubleshooting efforts so far have not been successful. Can anyone offer a solution? Thank you in advance.

I had a similar problem with my audio not working after the update. I tried the link advised below http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows/no-sound-help#no-sound=windows-7&v1h=win8tab1&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1   and opted for step 2 - Use a troubleshooter since I was pretty certain step 1 was not the case. I clicked on the audio troubleshooter link. Clicked next and next again to reveal which of the devices I wanted to troubleshoot. I left the clicked default radio button (Speakers and headphones-IDT high definition audio codec). Clicked next. It noticed that it was not set as the default. It suggested that I fix by accepting as default. And vooala! It worked......

  • 17t-k000 CTO upgrade to Windows 10 Pro

Hi AllJust quick two questions,"Has anyone installed WIndows 10 Pro on their ENVY 17t-k000 CTO 8.1 Pro...Product # G0U21AV?"....&"If you have, was the installation successful, uneventful and how does the laptop preform with the New upgrade?"In anticipationThank you for your inputStu

Thanks, I was dreading that. Now I have the pleasure of going through and trying to get the right drivers and apps installed when I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro as I suspect I'll lose them when I install Widows 7. You should also add that people MUST make sure to record the activated product key that is generated during the upgrade BEFORE doing a clean install of Windows 10. I suspect that MS wants people to first upgrade to Windows 10 before they do a clean install so that MS can generate a unique product key that is matched to the individuals' hardware. Otherwise I would have just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on another machine, upgraded it to Widows 10 Pro, and then just copied the product key that would have been generated and then install Windows 10 Pro on my Yoga 2 Pro. That would have (hopefully) saved me hassle of losing the apps and drivers Lenovo has already installed. My heart goes out to everyone who experiences problems with the Widows 10 "upgrade". Like most people here I spend the extra money on a brand that I trust expecting things to work. It surprises me that a device that uses specific hardware in a set configuration doesn't get extensively tested by the parent company. Instead it would seem that people are just expected to spend a lot of their own time dealing with the problems when they occur. It makes it hard not to go back to Apple or to even recommend Lenovo products.

  • HP ENVY 17T - J100 I NED TO REPLACE THE MAIN HDD TO SSD

I was just wanting to confirm that with the HP ENVY 17T J100 model can upgrade it's HDD to SSD? This model has the 1TB HDD. If I simply clone the HDD to an SSD of the same size.  will it work? Or is there more complex setup to get the raid working between SSD/SSD rather than SSD/HDD?
also i try with 120 ssd and it didnt work. if i change the main 1 TB HDD to 1 tb SSd can i use the recovery disks to return all the windows as factory with the SSD or not and why if not
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi @sherifmadkour
I understand you are looking at replacing your HDDs in your notebook with SSDs. I can help you with your question.
Please see the following for your notebook family which shows the supported components.
HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 Notebook PC HP ENVY TouchSmart 17 Notebook PC Maintenan...
You can find the drive list in the product description section,  and also under the Hard Drive list, in Component replacement procedures.
Anything outside of that list would not have been tested with the other hardware, and so is unexplored territory. It is one of those things where if a device has different current requirements, it can put strain on the other hardware or an issue of driver compatibility.

  • Envy 17t recovery

new envy 17t, well refurbished.  first, I delete a lot of the crapware.  I have about 40GB on a Win install that I need.  good.  now, I need to move to an SSD.  (why would anyone still use an HDD on a nice notebook?  beats me.)
I first try Paragon OS hard drive manager migration.  no dice.  ok, not recommended, and possibly Paragon's fault.
so I go for the HP app route, slow.
First, I create a recovery USB on my 128GB stick.  it warns me that I am only allowed 1 copy.  ok.  I create it.  then, I swap the SSD for the HDD, insert the USB, and start the "complete erase and recover to factory" choice.
the stage 1 works nicely.  it boots the stick and writes all sorts of stuff.  then it tells me that it needs to restart a few times to finish, which is normal.  (it forgets to tell me to uninsert the stick, 'cause it ain't smart enough to realize that it has already started, but this is ok.)  I let it go.  altogether, about half an hour into the process and after a few reboots (and I did the half-hour procedure repeatedly), I get a message that it failed.  lovely.
In the log, it tells me that it detects some error during PININST_BBV, followed by a few more recommendations of what files to save.  I cannot scroll up, so I don't know more about what the error really was.  It's a USB stick that was just written by the OS, so it is highly unlikely that it is correct.  (Well, I would hope that they check the integrity of a recovery file when they write it.  In any case, this is a good USB flash, used before, and it would seem highly unlikely that its hardware went bad.)  this should be even more so the case, because they should record that I have used up my 1 unit after they have successfully built the recovery medium, not before.
so, now I want to save the log file.  I insert a new USB stick (and I know that it sees it, because if I insert an ext4 USB stick, it knows to complain that there is not 2MB available), and save.  It tells me it saved to E:\HP_RM_LOG.CAB.  I shut down and look at the stick on my OSX computer---no dice.  there is no HP_RM_LOG.CAB file.  really?!  really!
I wish I could create another recovery disk, but this is of course not possible, because HP told me that they would allow me only one.
what exactly is going on here?  the HP software seems rather amateurish.
    /iaw

  • HP ENVY 700-210xt CTO Desktop PC/windows 8.1: can't display 2nd monitor

    Detail information:
    -  HP ENVY 700-210XT CTO Desctop PC
    -  One VGA port and one DVI-D port (used DVI-D to DVI-D cable to connect to second monitor)
    -  video card is a buildin card on motherboard
    -  Two monitors: AOC 10X16, Acer 12X15 (with both VGA and DVI-D ports)  and both working perfectly if connected to computer thru VGA cable.
    -  When start computer, both monitors showing 'HP' and circle of stars to indicate Window is starting (so I think DVI-D connection and is fine).
    -  Then second (DVI-D) monitor shows no signal and VGA monitor continues and everything is fine.
    -  If I go to Devices/Project/Second screen and choose any of the options: Duplicate/ExtendSecond screen only, nothing shows.  After awhile, system says can't find second monitor.
    Questions:
    1) if it is OK to use two different kinds/sizes of monitors?
    2) what else I can do to make the computer to use the DVI-D monitor?
    Thanks,
    Ning

    Hi,
If you can't see the basic HP UEFI boot menu information with a DVI connection then you have a hardware issue. It's either your monitors or DVI cable or the DVI port on your PC. It's definitely not a software issue as digital drivers don't get loaded until later in the Windows boot process.
Test the monitors and the DVI cable on another PC to ensure that they work correctly.  Alternatively, try a different DVI cable and monitor on your PC.

Here is a guide that should help you.  Be certain to watch the video.  You will need SATA III cables; power and data.  Although, the SATA 1.0 cables will work fine if you don't have the others.  I have found that the straight cables have always worked for me.
