SSD laptop upgrade for Elitebook 2540p
Can a 160-GB SSD, part number 602675-001 from a Elitebook 2740p tablet PC, be safely used in a Elitebook 2540p laptop? The 2540p's processor is an Intel Dual Core i7-640LM 2.13-GHz processor, (turbo up to 2.93-GHz), 4-MB L3 cache, 4 threads, low-voltage (25-W). The 160-GB SSD that specifically goes into the 2540p is part number 598782-001.

Hi,
It looks like both laptops use 1.8" drives and also Windows 7 64 Professional. If the drive fits in go ahead. If you get the none genuine message on Windows, phone Microsoft and reactivate it by phone.

HP - EliteBook 2540p replace HD for SSD
I need to change my Sata HD to SSD.
I noticed that my Sata HD is connected to the motherboard of an adapter or trough.
I bought an SSD Lite-on Model: LMT-128M6M.
How Do I? Since the adapter or unsecured coretamente SSD.
Already grateful for the help.Slotje wrote:
Hi There,
in the quick specs document for the HP EliteBook 2540p Notebook PC there is mentioned that one can only place a 80/160 GB Solid State Drive.
Why is it not possible to place for instance an Intel DC S3500 240GB SSD drive? This drive has more GB's and is faster...
How can I configure my elitebook that way that it will accept such a drive without losing maximum performance?
Thanks!
The laptop supports only 1.8" drives in the primary hard drive bay. I think that a 1.8" 240GB drive should work on the laptop. However, it can't be the Intel because it's a standard 2.5" drive and won't fit in. The manual says that you can use a standard 2.5" solid state drive such as the Intel one but only in a hard drive carrier (caddy/enclosure pn#
598787-001) instead of the optical drive (DVD-ROM).
Don't forget that the laptop supports only SATA II connection. This means that you can probably use a SATA III drive but it will work as a SATA II one.

Replace sata11 with ssd elitebook 2540p 17 2.13 low volt
Hello All.. I have a couple of HP EliteBook 2540P with I-7 ,2.18 GHz, 4.00 Gb, 1.8" 320 SATA11 low volt system that only supports a 1.8 SATA11 HD (unless I remove the dvd ) and want to upgrade to a 120gb (or larger) SSD.. Does any one know what I need to look for.. HP show two different drives.. One for the low volt 25a (Mine) and one for the std volt 35a.. I don't want to pay HP's price and need to know what to look for when I purchase a SSD .. Most SSD's on e-bay show they will work with any 1.8" HP laptop but before I order I need to know for sure.. If you have done this conversion I would like to hear from you ..The 1.8" pops in and out easily so that is not the issue..Just if the HD's are different..
Your help will be greatly appriceated..
Thank you.. Oreagle

I upgraded for Firefox 4 and now my HP SimplePass Identity Protection (biometric scanner) on my laptop will not work. WHY? It still works with IE but I don't use IE. It worked with the previous Firefox version but now when I use the internet, it doesn't even acknowledge I have the scanner. When I run my finger over it, it opens the settings panel but does not allow use of the already saved information or allow new information to be entered. I need this corrected. Any suggestions?
I asked this same question, and just received a response:
"Thank you for contacting DigitalPersona. There will be no update releases
for DigitalPersona Personal in the future. There will be no updates for
Firefox 4 nor Internet Explorer 9. IF they work they work, if they do
not work with DPPersonal, then you will have to decide to either keep
DPPersonal and forgo Firefox 4 or IE 9, or vice versa. DigitalPersona
is leaving the consumer market and is focusing on business applications.
In fact, DigitalPersona Personal will not longer be supported after
Mid-April of this year.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. Sincerely, Tech Team "
In other words, there will be NO update. -

We have two Mac laptops in the household, does anybody know if you need to purchase the Lion upgrade for each?
No. You only pay for Lion once and can then install it on all of your household Macs.
Purchase Lion in the App Store using one of your Macs and the install button will appear for Lion under the Purchases tab when you open the App Store with your other Mac. The App Store will ask for your user name and password to install Lion but won't charge you for the second install. If you have more than one iTunes account use the one that you used to purchase Lion. All apps in the App Store work this way. -
Seeking Laptop Recommendations For Video Editing On-The-Go (Around $1,000)
Hi there,
I am seeking recommendations for a laptop great for video editing. I am a YouTuber with an on-the-go lifestyle.
Budget is $1,000ish.
I need to be able to physically lock the laptop with one of those holes on the side.
I want to be able to multi-task well by having a variety of programs open at once.
Thanks for the help.Well that is a tall request Take a look at this factory refurbished starter unit. I acquired a similar refurbished unit just a year ago and upgraded it with more RAM and SSD drives. The upgrade process is extremely simple. You could start with the unmodified unit and as you run into performance problems upgrade gradually. My laptop is now editing three camera timelines of AVCHD 1920 x 1080 with ease. I now have 24 GB of RAM and got rid of the 1 TB 5400 rpm by cloning it to a 128 GB SSD drive and adding a second very good SSD in the available port. Removing one screw gives you full access to do this. Here is a picture of the bottom of my laptop.
Edit, I just checked and it does have a Kensington security slot
You do realize that the only way to do video editing is to have the laptop AC powered. -
I do 90% of my work on a desk top but periodically travel with a lap top to process my pix. My current laptop runs XP (and CS5) so needs to be upgraded for CC. What is a good spec?
Laptops are generally not as good as desktops for Photoshop work, but the need for portability is clear.
The thing I'd recommend is opting up to the most RAM and biggest honkin' SSD you can possibly shoehorn into it.
Windows 8 is not particularly well suited for serious use out of the box, but it can be made into a quite nice desktop-oriented system without a trace of the Metro/Modern debacle or even the Start screen. I've even written a book on how to set it up. I use Win 8.1 myself on my desktop system, and it's pleasant to use and very stable.

I want to buy a new laptop, and the HP Envy 14t looks great and a good size for a student like me. But I wish to know a few things about upgrades.
The first question being does this laptop support mSATA SSD and if so, what is the maximum capacity of one I could put into the laptop. For instance, 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, or even 1TB.
Second, I am pretty sure the 14t supports up to 2 Dimms with 8gb x2, so a maximum of of 16gb, or can it support more?
Third, does this laptop only have 1 2.5" Hard Drive bay inside of it, or does it support two. This of course is excluding the possible mSATA it may or may not support.
Lastly, does this laptop support SSD, I assume it does, but I do not want to make an incorrect conclusion and have to return it. Also if so is the sky the limit for the maximum capacity of the SSD, or does it have a 250GB-500GB limit. Though I 99% doubt there is one, and have never head of it happening before, I might as well ask anyways to be sure.
Thanks ahead of time if I don't remember to say it.
-DanHi,
Looks like they are CTO machines. You can order all the avialable configurations and. They don't have mSATA slot. Parts in bold are for a machine with that price. You can pay more to change CPU, video card, more RAM .... now.
Regards.

Budget €2300,- Need advice with laptop hardware for AE, Premiere Pro CC/CS6
Hi Folks,
These are some specific questons so if one of you have purchased or upgraded their laptop recently could know some of these things. Otherwise, any informed idea is really appriciated.
I'm planning to purchase a production laptop specially for AE and Premiere Pro.
I've come to understand that my budget allows me to have a nvidia Quadro M3000k. I guess you guys understand why I focuse
on the video card. My reasoning is: finding a machine with 3rd gen core i7, 16 or 32gb of ram, 1080p screen etc is quite easy in todays machines.
But I'm sturggeling to find one with the right, and affordable video card. My budget is arond 2300 euros btw. Give or take a 100.
So:
- Concidering my 2300 euro budget, do any of you know a good machine to suggest? Besides what I mentioned above, I'm looking for one where I can put 32gb ram in.
- In the link below, nvidia itself suggestes some laptops, I ended up with the HP EliteBook 8770w (it may seem quite cheap for my budget but unfortunately me living in Holland means by the time it has been imported and all the taxes paid, the price will be quite a bit more) and Dell Precision m6700 (this one is around 2300 euros in Holland).
http://www.nvidia.com/object/mobile-workstation-notebooks.html
- And am I failing to concider some other important feature folks?
Thanx in advance
UmydThank you folks very much.
Waw I was already searching for a machine with a quadro video card for two days before I consulted you guys and I'm so glad I did!
This is where I ended up now: Alienware M17x
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00w7m01&model_id=alienware-m17x-r 4&c=nl&l=nl&s=dhs&cs=nldhs1
It has a 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M. Which will make it cuda capable(?)
It does have eSATA port and usb3.
It just seemed to have only two slots for hard drive. Unlike some "worksations" that have 4. Is this problematic?
For hard drive I chose 128GB mSATA Boot Drive + 750GB 7,200rpm SATA 3Gb/s. Plus the eSATA and usb3 ports, it should be fine. Shouldn't it? -
Graphic Card Upgrade for HP-Pavilion dv6t-7000
Hello. I have the HP Pavlilion dv6t-7000 with the NVIDIA GT650M 1GB grpahics card. Now because of my work, i need to extends my graphic card memory. So I want to ask if my laptop is possible to upgrade to GT650M 2GB card.
My product number is A5F74AV. And my wannary is end on 8/24/2013.
And this laptop is a gift of my aunt from USA, and I'm living in Viet Nam now. So if yes, can HP Vietnam do the upgrade for me? My aunt's family is very busy so I can't resend my laptop and ask them to return to you.
Thank you very much!Hi:
The only way to upgrade the video card in your notebook is to replace the entire motherboard which would cost as much as buying a new notebook with better graphics.
If you had HP do the upgrade, it would probably cost more than buying 2 notebooks with better graphics than yours. -

October 26th, 2012 Microsoft told me with "Microsoft Update Advisor" that I could upgraded my OS from Windows 7 Pro 64 bits to Windows 8 Pro 64 bits and after one year with another "Microsoft Upgrade Advisor" Microsoft told me again to upgrade my OS from Windows 8 Pro 64 bits to Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits, but Gigabyte does not give the drivers on their website for my motherboard neither for Windows 8 and neither for Windows 8.1 and the system is however liable.
If I believe Gigabyte I need to purchase a new motherboard and probably a new CPU and new RAM.
1) Do you agree with Gigabyte or with Microsoft?
2) If we believe Gigabyte, so can you tell me what king of CPU and motherboard to choose for video editing and video encoding, please?
In the past, I had followed Adobe advices to use a Nvidia Quadro 2000 video card and HDDs in RAID 0 for video editing and video encoding.
Moreover, Microsoft recommends to use a SSD for Windows 8.1.
3) So, do you think I really need a SSD, with which capacity (256 or 512 GB ?) and which brand?
4) A SSD for the OS and software and HDDs in RAID 0 for video editing?
I edit HD (1600 x 1080 pixels) and I plan a budget between 450 and 650 $ for upgrading my PC.
Maybe I can only buy one new motherboard for 200 $, keeping my CPU and my RAM and buy a SSD 480 GB for 333 $ (total 200 + 333 = 533 $).
5) Do you agree with me for buying just only a motherboard and a SSD ?
Thank you in advance if someone can help me.
Otherwise my configuration seems to comply with http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/tech-specs.html I have only a doubt for the sound.
Best regards

I can answer questions 3 and 4, as I have that sort of setup.
3.) No, you don't really need an SSD, but I would certainly recommend that you buy one. You'll notice a huge difference in the amount of time it takes to boot. I bought the OCZ Vertex 3 (120GB) a while back, and it's very fast. Whether or not you should get one just depends on whether the speed is worth it to you, but if I were you, I would.
As for the size, that depends on exactly what you'll use it for. See number 4 below.
4.) Yes, that's my setup. The SSD is my primary drive, and my HDD is for everything else. Here's basically how I have everything setup:
When I finish a day of shooting, I copy all my footage into a special folder (I named it "IMPORT" since I use it often) on my SSD. I do this because the clips load much faster in Prelude and Premiere Pro. Then, after I finish and export the project, I move all the original files onto my HDD. I would still do this even I had a larger SSD, because it's always good to keep your primary drives clean.
I also set the render and cache directories to those that I create on my HDD, because for longer projects, my SSD would fill up quickly, so that's why you may want to consider buying a larger SSD (even though 128GB would probably work just fine).
I hope this helped a little!

Hello, I didn't see any particular posts specifically pertaining to the slot loading iMac (Graphite)..I hope someone can help me out.
I have a G3 Graphite iMac, upgraded RAM currently running Tiger. I used to use it but wiped it clean, re-installied the OS and created a separate account for my 8y/o son, so essentially there aren't many apps on there. For some reason it's running slower than it should, even with just Safari open. Is there a fix or possibly a processor upgrade for this model (I keep seeing that there isn't, but I want to be sure).
It's either that or constantly hearing my son complain of the lagtime and ask for our laptops instead...According to Mactracker at one point there was a 700 MHz model available in Graphite & Snow. If you could find a 700 MHz G3 CRT iMac logic board on eBay it might be possible to upgrade the processor speed. You could also install a Matshita SR-8184 or SR-8186 DVD-ROM drive.
There's firmware available for both drives that allow them to be flashed to RPC1 or region free meaning they can play DVDs from any region in the world. Normally the drive is restricted to being able to only play Region 3 DVDs from the US. If you order a Matshita SR-8184CD optical drive from www.welovemacs.com call their 800 number listed on their website & be sure to ask for Jessica or Faith since some of the optical drives they sell don't have RPC1 firmware available for them.
