Ssd not mounted after reboot (mbp mid 2010)

I Have a question regarding an issue with my macbook pro mid 2010.
I Just reached home and opened my macbook and decided to restart it after a days work (normally i put it to sleep by closing the lid).
to my suprise, it won't boot anymore. First a grey screen with a prohibited sign, then after rebooting again the recovery is launched. When I check disk utility the SSD is recognized, but appears not mounted and renamed to disks2. I checked the sata connectors, which appeared to be fine.
macbook got 8gb ram;  ssd=500 evo, which I installed about a monh ago without any problems. Clean installed yosemite last week.
Anyone an idea what is wrong and what can be done?

It would appear that the SSD is faulty.  Replace it with another one.
Ciao.

  • ASM not mounting after reboot of external storage

I have a setup with 4 internal drives and 12 external drives(external storage, multipath). The diskgroup was orignally created on the 4 internal drives and then the disk group altered to add the external storage. Everything was fine until the external storage array got powered down. Then we rebooted both boxes and ASM did not come up. I also see the HEADER_STATUS as UNKNOWN for all the external storage drives.

  • HT204032 Why is Powernap not available for other MB's such as the MBP mid 2010 model for example?

Why is Powernap not available for other MB's such as the MBP mid 2010 model for example?

I have a 2010 MBP 6,2 with an aftermarket SSD. My machine gets mail and notifications while asleep, but I do not have any powernap pref box in energy savings under 10.9.1
I do not have an Apple SSD. I have a Crucial M4-CT512M4SSD2
Apple did replace my MB last Fall under the video fault problem (for free after 3 years.....thanks Apple), but it stills identifies as a 6,2  Boot ROM  MBP61.0057.B0F
I wish I could shut off this powernap feature, but have no access to it.

  • After ML upgrade, MBP mid 2010 crashes or freezes when connecting/disconnecting apple cinema display, specially when is put to sleep.

After upgrading to ML, when I connect my MBP mid 2010 to my Cinema Display system crashes, if I close the mac to put it to sleep, it freezes, if I pull the power cord and then disconnect the cinema display,  it freezes to black.
Bottom line... MBP + ML + Cinema Display = Useless aluminum can.
    Any Help??? .... Please????

I have exactly the same problem.  I found that unplugging the Cinema display (both from the MB and power) and re-connecting did exactly nothing, but that the MS Windows solution works:  Reboot your machine.
Note:  the problem comes up when the display sleeps, not the computer.
We are really making progress here with the evolution of OSX!  NOT!

  • My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd.

My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd. Earlier I thought this behavior is due to spotlight indexing but it finished after 3 days. I deleted all caches from library. But no luck, still running extremely slow. I checked activity monitor for cpu usage, it shows above 90% is idle. The memory usage always shows PM - 4 GB, Memory Used 3.96 GB, VM - 4 GB, Swaped used 0 bytes, App Memory 1.82 GB, File Cache 1.44 GB, Wired Memory 480 MB.

Was it the combo updater that was installed or the OS X 10.9.3 update. There is a difference.
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

Do you have a 15" mid-2010? If so then your problem is surely...
Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
             com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
             com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000->0x8378dfff
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Can I system restore a purchased mbp mid 2010 but keep the upgraded OS?

I purchased a used MBP mid 2010 and had the seller meet me at the apple store. After I verified the computer was not stolen I asked to have it factory wiped, but they said I needed an appointment. Now I've read directions on this forum on how to restore it myself, is it the same technique they use in the store? Can I restore this machine and keep mavericks or must it be restored to the original OS?

    fastcash124,
when Mavericks is downloaded from the Mac App Store, it is non-transferable; the seller should have wiped it from the internal drive before selling it to you. Once you’ve done a clean reïnstallation of Snow Leopard and run Software Update to get it to Mac OS X 10.6.8, you can then download and install your own (non-transferable) copy of Mavericks from the Mac App Store.

  • MBP mid 2010 - 15" 2,4Ghz (Battery Problem)

    Hi guys.
I have a MBP mid 2010. My battery wont last more that 4.30 hours.
I have tried more than enough times to test' it.
Last Night with fully charged battery I was able to get 4.40 Hours.
    Bluetooth OFF
    Low monitor brightness
    Low keyboard illumination
    Air Port was on.
Basically web browsing and 4 or 5 youtube videos.
Did not make any software instalation or updates.
4.30 hours its just to low.
BTW it as 37 full charges
My work laptop wich is a Dell Latitude E6400 with a 9cell battery I get more than 5 hours. And it as way more full charge cycles.

Certainly not... but I'd rather source a complete antiglare clamshell lid and slap it on myself thus upgrading the machine, as long as I know I wouldn't have to replace the logic board as well... I've done plenty of surgery on notebooks, from removing a stuck business-card shaped CD from a 12" PowerBook G4 (requiring *complete* disassembly of the machine) to swapping ThinkPad T61 motherboards into T60 chassis creating a 15" 4:3 IPS FrankenPad which can take 8GB of ram... so I can handle swapping a display.
Local apple store hasn't told me clearly whether or not it's possible, just that they will only replace it with the original screen...
I can only find one logic board part # for a 2.4GHz mid-2010 15" MBP, which suggests to me that upgrading the screen should be no problem, but I'd love to hear from someone who's done it or can give a definitive answer as to whether or not it's possible...

  • Could Calendar services not available after reboot be LDAP problem?

    I followed this installation guide:
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/CommSuite7U2/Communications+Suite+on+a+Single+Host+%28Linux%29#CommunicationsSuiteonaSingleHost%28Linux%29-InstallingCommunicationsSuite7Update2Software
I have successfully installed and set up the Oracle UCS Sun7 update 2 server. Calendar works ( if I don't reboot the server ).
However, when I reboot the server, Calendar service is unavailable.
Important information for when I installed Oracle UCS sun 7 update 2 by following the installation guide:
I have noticed when browsing through the folders, that there was already a 'dsee6' folder for the Oracle Linux I started from. Following the example installation for the Oracle Linux 5 with GlassFish install, I was instructed to download a new Directory Server. Following the instructions on page 7 of the install guide listed above, I made another folder 'dsee7'. I am wondering if I should never have downloaded this new Directory Server as instructed on page 6 "Get the Software". The install guide actually does not mention where to get the Directory Server from, so I just went to the edelivery site and figured it out myself. Anyways, under the "Installing and Configuring Directory Server" section, #3, I was instructed to "mv dsee7 /opt/sun/directory". In this folder, /opt/sun/directory/bin, there will be "./dsadmin" utility that can be ran. This is used to do many things with the Directory Server including starting it. Here is how I started it:
    cd /opt/sun/directory/bin
    ./dsadm create /var/opt/sun/directory/dsins1
    ./dsconf create-suffix "0=isp"
Also, I downloaded the Directory Server from edelivery - Oracle Directory Server Enterprise Edition 11gR1 Patch Set 1 for Linux x86-64
Then, I ended up running to get it set up:
    ./dsccsetup ads-create
    ./dsccsetup war-file-create
    $ ./dsccsetup cacao-reg
    ./dsccsetup status
Then, it looked like the dcss agent is registered in cacao.
So, if we forward ahead to page 9 of the install guide, "Preparing the Directory", I ran this and prepared the directory. After I finished installation, I could restart the Directory Server with no problems, as long as I did not reboot the machine. I would restart the Directory Server like so:
    cd /opt/sun/directory/bin
    ./dsadmin stop-domain domain1
    ./dsadmin start-domain domain1
However, if I rebooted the machine, I could still start and stop the Directory Server as noted. But, the Calendar Services were not available.
The only reason I wonder about this LDAP Server possibly being the cause of this is because I had at one point configured the services to start on boot. I followed these instructions:
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/CommSuite7U2/Start+and+Stop+Scripts+for+Communications+Suite+%28Linux%29
I am using a VMSphere client to host this set up. So, since that point of configuring the services to start up, I have rolled the snap shot back so that the services are no longer set up to start on boot. But, when they were, and I rebooted the machine, I could see ldap 389 errors all over the place. So, that lead me to roll my snap shot back in effort to try and fix the ldap errors. I no longer get LDAP errors since I rolled my snap shot back. But, like I said, I no longer have any of the services, including the LDAP, to start on boot as noted in the above link that instructs us how to do this.
After reboot, I run these commands to get the server up and running:
    Start GlassFish server:
    cd /opt/sun/SUNWappserver/bin
    ./startserv
Start web ( Messaging Server I think ):
    cd /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/bin
    ./start-msg
Start LDAP ( Directory Server )
    cd /opt/sun/directory/bin
    ./dsadm start /var/opt/sun/directory/dsins1
    Start Mysql
    cd/etc/init.d
    ./mysqld start
All of those commands complete without problem. I can log into the convergence web, I can hit the delegated administrator, I can log into the GlassFish admin console, and I can see my calendar folder when I hit it in the web ( http://myServer.com/davserver/dav/home/userName/calendar/ ).
So, in summary, I am wondering if anyone knows if this supposed second Directory Server is causing my problems since I started with Oracle Linux 5 and Oracle Linux 5 appeared to have the folder dsee6 already installed with it. Could this be why my calendar services are not starting after reboot but are working before reboot?
( Also, all of my posts keep getting deleted. Can someone please email me if someone from Oracle is deleting my posts and tell me why they are getting deleted? )

I have only used Time Capsule for 2 days. However, it does not mount after Restart. I have to manually go in to the Time Machine Preferences and choose it again as the backup disk. Is anyone else having this issue, or is that the way it is supposed to work? Please help.

I can see where you're coming from. I have just invested in an iMac with iLife08 , iWork08 and .Mac
I saw getting this Time Capsule as the logical last step in this splurge.
I still have an old Dell desktop WIN 95 vintage which is still chugging along, VERY slowly, its specs having been increased way beyond what its makers ever planned.
I think (hope) this Time Capsule saga is a bit of a blip, superimposed on software (Time Machine) which has not been fully ironed out yet.
As you say, "Works straight out of the box" and "one click and thats it" are statements one took for granted with Apple, but with a big push coming from the suits, perhaps things are shipped too early.
From what I had heard of Apple, I would have expected better.
It was amazing to read the frustrations of Mac veterans in their efforts to get the Time Capsule up and going - and they appeared to know what they were on about.
I have to admit that I wasn't quite sure at first what exactly I was installing, but settled for a wireless external drive on my existing network, which doesn't have any other Apple products.
    Even that setup has gremlins.
I am hoping that soon one of the mags will devote a feature on clearing the decks and starting from scratch with DETAILED instructions. I found that the installation bumpf which came with this brick stopped at the point where things got tricky.
    Keep the faith!

  • My MBP Mid 2010 with 1066mhz 8gb ram freezes and restarts while using safari. Any help?

Corsair has two part numbers regarding 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM.
See image below - first image is for non Apple notebook/laptop - second image is for Macbook and Macbook Pro.
    Which RAM did you buy?

  • Not sure where to place my SSD and HDD. Macbook Pro mid 2010, 2,4GHz intel core 2 duo.

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,
10gb of Ram...looking to max it at 16 even though apple says 8gb.
I upgraded to a Travelstar 1tb HDD 7200rpm max 6gb/s and waiting for my data doubler from OWC.
I am also hoping to buy an SSD. But Where should I place the HDD and SSD?
I read a forum saying that since my MBP is 2010, my HDD should stay in the main bay, and the SSD in the optical drive due to gb/s or somthing?
    Can anyone clarify?
I thought SSD would be better in the main bay and HDD in the optical.
I am thinking of getting the Samsung pro SSD 120gb? or the 228gb?
    Thank you

For best performance place the "system disk" in the internal slot and the second disk in the optical bay.  I assume your SSD will be your system disk.
