SSD replacement

Dear all,
I would like to ask, is there any problem if i replace my ssd for macbook air 2012 to ssd for macbook air 2013?
Is that still readable? or some failure might be happened?
For your information currently i am using macbook air 2012, with ssd toshiba blade x-gale 128gb. this ssd i want to exchange with samsung 512gb but for 2013 macbook air model.
hoping all of you can give me suggestion.

I suggest you purchase the SSD from a reputable source such as OWC (macsales.com).  They have SSDs they have tested and guarantee in your model MBA.  They also deliver excellent service.

Also, take a look at upgrading Your MacBook Pro with a Solid State Drive (SSD)

These are instructions for a MBP but much of the advice pertains to swapping in any SSD.
If your MBA is under warranty or AppleCare, replacing the SSD will void the warranty.

Hi, guys! I want to buy Lenovo ThinkPad s431, and I have a question.
Can I change 24GB SSD disk with larger disk (for example 128 or 256 GB)?
Is it necessary to replace regular HDD for this or the laptop has a mSata or 2.5 slot on motherboard?
    Thanks!

I guess I wont be buying Lenovo again

  • Advice - caddy for existing HD after SSD replacement MBP M2009

Would love to hear any advice on what is a good caddy to purchase for my Mid 2009 MBP.
I have just bought a Crucial 512GB MB SATA 6GB 2.5" Internal SSD drive, which I intent to install but would like to replace my underused CD Drive with the replaces SATA HD that was shipped originally in the machine.
Would greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations on what worked for you and any gotchas I may need to know when identifying the right kit.
    Rapid responses greatly appreciated.

I sold my MB and upgraded to a new C2D MBP and couldn't be happier. The graphics are a world of difference, and no excessive fan noise anymore. I just have the 128M graphics card, so I'm not sure how much better the 256M card would be.

  • Imac 21,5 2011 hdd for ssd replacement

Is it possible to replace hdd drive in mid 2011 Imac 21,5 for an ssd drive. i dont need dual kits etc, just need to take hdd and istall in the same place ssd for faster Mac.

As for the thermal sensor, just reattach it to the SSD so that your fans won't go into warp speed.
    Impossible for 2011 iMacs:
note that the HD bay has a different power connection with seven total leads, two of which are used for thermal feedback. Normal SATA power connections, including those going to the SSD and optical bay in the 2011 iMacs, utilize five total leads

  • Installed SSD & replaced Superdrive with HDD. Magic Mouse now sluggish

It may be a coincedance but since I have installed a SSD (to replace to HDD) drive and replaced the Superdrive (DVD Drive) with the existing HDD (using a HD caddy), my Magic Mouse has been sluggish.
At first it seems that my Mac was overall slow but it seems that it was just getting a bit too hot - when I opened Mac and at same time gave things a clean, I made the fan less efficient and more noisy - its OK now. Still seem to be getting hotter than I remember but it is now summer and my apartment is pretty warm.
The heat is on the left hand side of the keyboard (what would be causing that??) and not on the side where the SDD or HDD is.
Anyway, going back to the mouse. It sluggish and lags a bit. I have tried brand new batteries and same problem.
    Any ideas??

I am hving the same issue.
magic mouse with hdd in original place + new SSD in optic drive bay.
OSX is on ssd bay. user on HDD.
Mouse seems to be sluggish when SSD is writing. Dropbox sync + time machine read/write etc.
Any insight on why this is would be great.

  • Help with SSD replacement - Macbook Air MC966LZ/A

Hi, we have a macbook air MC966LZ/A model A1369 - core i5 1.7 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. We require to upgrade the hard drive to 500 GB or 750 GB, Could you please tell us which would be the best compatible option? Please include Part number if is possible, because I will do the replacement by myself (I hope not to make a mistake).
This doubt occurs after our local vendor recommends us a Samsung 840 EVO SSD 500GB, which has arrived a time ago, but at the time of the upgrading, they said that this disk is not comptatible with and unless we buy an Apple SSD instead (which cost is huge), there is not a solution. We also want to know if the technician is right.
    Thanks four your help.

    should this SSD an option?

  • Satellite R630 - SSD replacement

    Hello
looking into my R630x I'll see a SSD that isn't compareable with other commercially available SSDs I have found. It seem to be a circuit board, connected by a very flat ribbon cable. No other connector.
Which kind of SSD do I have to replace this one? Is it even replaceable?
    Holger

    Hi
As far as I know the SSD which is built in the notebook is an *1.8 SATA SSD* drive.
In case you would like to use other SSD drive you will have to use the same size. 1.8

  • Cost of a MacbookAir Mid 2012 256GB SSD replacement (from Apple)

My Mid 2012 MBA 256GB SSD just failed, 1 week out of warranty if you believe it!. I updated my OS X, restarted and boom, gone. Bad luck I guess.
I'm wondering if anyone has had to replace this part and what the cost was? I am well aware of OWC's solution and I would prefer to avoid them - they seem dodgy and the reviews seem in total pretty negative. I'd like to stick with a legit Apple repair.
I am living in Germany, but the MBA was purchased in Australia if that changes anything.
Also, does Apple provide a warranty on the repair?

In recent days many people with a dead SSD on a 2012 MBAir have had their SSD's replaced by Apple free of charge, even though they were out of warranty.
There is a long and informative thread on failed SSD's in 2012 MBAir here:

  • Cq61-104el freezed after SSD replacing

    Hi,
I've cloned my native HDD into M500 SSD. After replacing into Compaq cq61-104el (NU736EA#ABZ), system start and work well for about 30 second, only. After that, system freeze and do not respond to any input (including shut down or restart).
The notebook was equipped with Vista home premium 32b OEM upgraded to W 8.1 and Bios F23 (the last released by HP for this notebook). I have no AHCI setting mode in start bios.
How can I solve this issue?
    Many thanks.
    M.

My Notebook presently is not tested for windows 8 compatibility by HP support.
Nevertheless the upgrade of the preinstalled OS (Vista H. P 32B) to w 8 and 8.1 do not have had any adverse effects.
The problem appears when I have replaced the HDD with SSD. The driver for this notebook does not support the RAID features.
I have then installed the 11.7.0.1013 version of the ICH9M- E/M SATA AHCI Controller and system seems much more stable with some occasional freeze only.
There are some possibility to further improve the performance of the system? The reading performance of the SSD is still to high compared to writing access to the HW.
    Thanks.
    M.

  • Replaced HDD w/ SSD, replaced Sata Cable, can't install OSX

    Hello All,
So I've got a Late 2009 13in MBP that I thought had a HDD go bad. Nothing unusual, so I replaced the HDD, had a second one "go bad." After a bit of trouble shooting, I ordered a new Sata cable and a a 512gb Crucial M4 SSD. Replaced both, and I've been having some trouble ever since.
I've tried to install 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8, and every single attempt has failed in it's own way. 10.8 refuses to create a recovery partition, 10.7 just hangs on first reboot after copying files and never reboots to finish the installation, 10.6 makes it half way and refuses to copy Essentials.pkg.
I did a test and used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my other macbook pro (10.8) to the HDD with the 13in in Target Disk Mode, and it failed at first boot but after reparing disk permissions a few times I got it to boot just fine.
I'm left with two options. Either the new Sata cable is also fried, or the logic board is fried. The macbook has passed both Apple hardware test and TechTool Pro's hardware test. But no matter what, I can't get an OS installed on it the traditional way.
Just wondering if anyone here can shed some light on some possible solutions... this post is more of a last resort as I'm all out of ideas.
    Thanks!

    Could be the SSD.

  • W540 Replacing HDD to SSD

I am considering replacing the original 512 MB HDD that came with my W540 to SSD with similar capacity.
From what I read, the performance difference is huge
I am using - Win 7 pro and my reason buying this beast is solid CAD drafting
Anything special I need to know regarding BIOS, driver setup, other issues, SSD recommendations?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

With my 512GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD replacing the original stock 500GB spinner on my W530, I could not be happier.
I did let Samsung Magician do what it wanted to in terms of "making tweaks to optimize Windows for SSD".  I also let Magician tell me how much space to leave unallocated (somewhat less than 10% of the drive) for "over-provisioning" (for improved SSD performance).  And I also enabled "rapid mode" which uses machine main RAM as an additional performance improving buffer (since I rarely am using more than half of the 8GB of memory on my W530).
And of course I disabled the DEFRAG service in Windows, and elijminated its normal weekly scheduled running.

  • Trying to switch to SSD, not working at all.

So I have an A1278 Macbook Pro from Late 2011 with a 2.3ghz i5 and 16gb of ram running OSX 10.9. I also have an MCE optibay in place of my disk drive. I use this setup at a recording studio running Logic off my system drive and record to the drive in the optibay so I don't get any "disk too slow" errors or whatever in logic.
    Anyway...
I wanted to put my 1TB HDD into my optibay, and put a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD into my main drive bay. First I formatted thr drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in disk utility, then I tried cloning my drive in disk utility to which I got a "disk too small" error and several "invalid argument 22" errors. (Note my 1TB drive only has 90GB's of used space on it) I then tried a fresh install of Mavericks onto the SSD and restoring from a Time Machine backup. No such luck. It would be stuck at 0.2% and then "Time Remaining" would keep rising until it would stop and ask me to restart. Everything up to this point was happening in recovery mode btw. I then tried moving all my old files onto this fresh install on the SSD with Migration assistant. This appeared to have worked. The computer booted and I got this amazing SSD speed everyone was talking about. Until finder continued to close and not function properly over and over and I had to force shutdown. Back into recovery mode I went. Tried to repair disk with disk utility. and I got a "Disk utility can't repair this disk, please back it up and restore" error, and the log showed some red text about invalid node structres. So, did I miss a crucial step that one has to undergo before using an SSD? Some sort of magic SSD button in disk utility that I forgot to toggle? Or do I have a faulty drive? Right now I'm booted using the original 1TB disk in my Optibay. Any thoughts?

    Hey Clinton
I guess i'm so stuck with the SSD that i have purchased.
    Here is the details:
    SSD - Samsung SSD 840 Evo 250GB
    MacBook Pro - 13-inch, Mid 2012
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro9,2
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
    Boot ROM Version: MBP91.00D3.B08
    SMC Version (system): 2.2f44
I was running with the factory HDD (toshiba 500gb) and thought of replacing it with an SSD . Tried a clean installation of mavericks at first using Bootable USB drive having mavericks. So i went on and installed the ssd replacing the HDD i had and went on to boot up from the USB, prior the installtion i tired to partition it first with single partition MAC os extended journaled with GUID table. But then it did partition but after that it says trying to reinitialize the drive and it never came back although i tried more than five times. So then i went back to my HDD and tired cloning it to SSD using Carbon Copy Cloner, but even for that i had to do the partitioning which failed. Finally i had to go and return back that peice and they gave me another one convincing me that it might a defective peice.
Now, with the second one, at first i booted up my HDD normally and connected the new SSD the USB/sata converter and i successfully partitioned and using carbon copy cloner, i have cloned as well. Now to make sure if its all ok, before replacing the HDD in the main compartment, i just selected the startup disk as the new SSD and restarted the system... it booted up fine like a cheetah... was all gud... i thought everything is pretty fine. Then ofcourse i went ahead and replaced the HDD and powered up the system again, but then it's not booting up... it gives you that folder with ? mark and that's all...
And then i tried some other ways too... i even checked the firmware versions and i guess they are upto date as well. I just dont get the reason why it's not working.
    Please help me.

so should i return and buy crucial now..???
