SSD storage usage in Exalogic

I am trying to understand the difference between the SSD/Flash components located in various elements of Exalogic. I have read most of the Oracle docs and some of the blog stuff, but there is some confusion as Exadata drifts into the text. So it is not clear what is and isn't in Exalogic, and what function each of the SSD/Flash components perform.
There are SSDs in the nodes, and I believe they are used for fast OS load, fault data, but also swap space. How is the swap space used? Is this Database Smart Flash Cache?
In the Sunfire storage heads also have SSD, I believe 4TB for Read and 92GB for Write. How are these allocated? What is the mechanism for moving read/write data in and out of the SSDs? Is this Exadata Smart Cache running in the storage heads?
Any comments or points to other sources would be helpful.

Exalogic uses SSDs in three subsystems:
1) The Exalogic compute nodes each use 2 (two) SSDs in a RAID1 (mirrored) configuration for storage of the local boot image of the operating system
2) Each Exalogic storage head uses SSDs to implement the "Readzilla" read caches, which accelerate the READ performance of the storage system
3) The Exalogic Disk Array contains SSDs used to implement the "Logizilla" write cache, which accelerates WRITE performance of the storage system

  • Site Collection Web Analytics Reports - Storage Usage

    Hi All,
under the Inventory section in the Web Analytics reports no storage usage information displays for most reports
The interesting thing is that if I select a Preceding Report (90 days, 180 days etc) that it will show me all the information up to today's date accurately, does anyone have an idea why the Preceding Day/Preceding 7 days report doesn't work but the others
    do?

    Hi James,
Have you checkd if the web analytics data has been updated to today?
You can check if the Web Analytics configuration is working fine per the following posts, and also check ULS if there are any useful messages for troubleshooting this issue.

I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS6.  In the process, I ran into a problem and had to restore factory settings.  After syncing the phone, I see that 218 apps need to be updated. When selecting "update all," it says "Cannot Download.  There is not enough available local storage to download these items.  You can manage your local device storage usage in Settings."
How can this be the case when I haven't changed any apps from before updrading to iOS6, and I don't have any music yet on the phone?  Why is it telling me there is not enough local space?

    Hi RileyAvaCadenRiver,
If you recently updated your iPhone to iOS7, you will need to update iTunes on your computer to iTunes 11.1 or newer for it to correctly recognize the iPhone. You may find the following link helpful:

  • Can a 128 ssd storage still effectively work if I install windows 8.1 plus msoffice and a window-based proposal system? I plan to buy a macbook air entry level with 1.7 gh i5 processor.

Can a 128 ssd storage still effectively work if I install windows 8.1 plus msoffice and a window-based proposal system? I plan to buy a macbook air entry level with 1.7 gh i5 processor.

If you are going to use Mac OS X and its associated applications, and a BootCamp partition with Windows 8, and MS Office and all of the work created there, you will more than likely run out of space on a 128 GB SSD pretty quickly...especially if you put any music, photos or videos on it.  Those things take a lot of space so you will have to be very, very careful about what you want to put on a 128 GB storage space.  You would be better off going for 512 GB with what you plan on doing with it.

  • Mac OS X Lion shows excessive disk storage usage for movies ... about 3 times the expected size.

I  have about 65GB of movies on my Mac OS X Lion. However, when I look up my storage usage from "About this Mac -> More Info -> Storage, it shows 208 GB. I tried querying up all Movie files, and it comes back with only 65-70GB. Any ideas where the extra storage is being reported from?
    Thanks

Then you actually do have 208 GB of movies.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste (command-V) into the Terminal window. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • IPhone 6 plus storage usage spikes over 30GB

    I have an iPhone 6 plus 64GB. iOS 8.2.
SInce the 8.2 update, my phone has been giving me a notifcation saying that it has low storage. When I look at my usage, I have 5GB of photos, 2 GB of music and various smaller apps under 1 GB. The available storage number is small or even 0kb. After I close all of my apps, the available storage spikes to about 35GB!
Any ideas as to what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hey vinedine,
I would suggest reviewing your storage usage in iTunes to get another perspective of the data that is being stored on your iPhone.    See the "View storage usage for your iOS device in iTunes" in the article below.
Take a look at your Mail and Messages apps.  Many times, the photo and video attachments in those applications can take a lot of space on your device.
See how much storage you've used on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201656
If your device is near its capacity or you get an alert that your storage is full, you can remove some of your less used content to make room for more.
iTunes displays how much space the selected songs, videos, audiobooks, and apps use in the status bar on the bottom of the screen. You can also see this information by selecting an item and then choosing File > Get Info. The size is available in the Summary tab.
You can transfer or sync content to your computer from your device. If you want to remove certain types of content from your device, learn how to manually manage content using iTunes.
    Hope that helps ...

  • Trying to update apps on iphone and getting error message, there is not enough available local storage to download these items. you can manage your local device storage usage in settings

trying to update apps on iphone and getting error message, there is not enough available local storage to download these items. you can manage your local device storage usage in settings. What am I to do?

The storage you purchased is in the cloud, and doesn't do anything with your pad.  Your problem is simply that you have too much content on your pad.   Go to settings, general, usage, and it will show you how much space you have avaliable on your pad.  If you let the screen sit for a while, all the apps will be displayed, and you can see how much stuff you have associated with each.
You have to no option but to delete some of the content on your pad.  Videos, comics, pitcures and some music files use a lot of space.   The cloud allows you to leave stuff there, so you can get it when you need it.

  • SSD storage good for iTunes library?

I think the hard part is done, 256GB of SSD storage can be had for £700 now, by net year (I'd say Q3~ish) we could have 500GB of SSD storage for maybe £900, then it will only be a year and a half or maybe two before we get 1TB of SSD sotrage, which I think will tip past £1K.
What I want to know is if an iTunes library would be good with SSD, I've read up on it and the technology works best with data which require small file access, not large quantities of data like video.

Well you see my current setup is that I do have a 1TB HDD, I stream this over a TimeCapsule network to iTunes on my MacBook. But I find that it can get itself into a bottle neck, especially so with video, music too. So I thought that SSD might help, I was told the 802.11n frequency allowed for good speeds and thought that the spinning HDD would be the main offender.
I saw this technology from Intel, a video demonstrating wireless streaming of several GBs in a few seconds, but it was restricted to a few meters. But as mentioned I didn't think that it was a network issue because 802.11n is fast.
    Your thoughts?

  • The new Yosemite Photos app local storage usage question

    Hi,
Did anyone check the local storage usage for the new Photos on Yosemite?
How much space does it take for all the lores photos locally if the originals are stored in iCloud.
Lets say if 100GB of RAW files are migrated from Aperture in to Photos to cloud. This should be 100GB in the cloud and how much on OS X?
Can a RAW file still be downloaded from cloud later or are they transformed to jpgs once uploaded?
What if there is not enough storage for all lores photos on iOS or OS X representing all the original iCloud photos?
    I'm really puzzled about this.
    Thanks

I just installed the Yosemite upgrade with Photos.  I don't use Aperture of the iCloud, but the iPhotos library migrated with about the same disk space, but it is doubled, because the old iPhoto library is still on disk.

  • IPad video storage usage does not match what iTunes displays

When viewing the storage usage for my iPad mini through iTunes, I noticed "Other" was at 19.45 GB. I thought this was a little strange since I am somewhat familiar with the type of data that is categorized under "Other". When I checked the storage usage through settings on the iPad itself I saw "Videos" was at 18.2 GB, however there are no Videos synced to my iPad. Also, when I check the "About" page in settings, again on my iPad, it shows there are 10 videos. Again, I have no actual Videos on my iPad. If I check the Videos app the only Videos that are displayed are the Videos that I have purchased, but they have not been downloaded to my iPad. ALL the videos within the Videos app have the cloud icon meaning they are available for download from iCloud.
I am wondering if "Other" is so large because the iPad is saving space to stream these videos, which I have done quite a few times. Most of the time I will stream the videos purchased through the iTunes Store, instead of downloading them, to help save space.
Here is a screenshot of my iPad's storage usage through iTunes. Notice there is no purple bar for videos, but "Other" is huge.
This is a screenshot of the storage usage directly from my iPad. However, there are currently no videos synced to my iPad. The only videos in the Video app are displayed with the iCloud icon.

I have noticed there is a difference between tapping the cloud icon and tapping the video itself. When I tap the video itself it begins to play, and seems to behave as if it is "streaming". Once the video is done or stopped playing the cloud icon remains. When I actually tap the cloud icon it begins to download, and once the download is complete the cloud icon disappears.
After I read your response I had an idea and turned off Wi-Fi on my iPad. I then opened the Videos app and suddenly all the videos disappeared EXCEPT for the videos I have recently watched. These videos also play just fine. When I turn Wi-Fi back on, all the purchased videos return, including the ones that didn't disappear, but they ALL have the cloud icon again.
Thank you for the information you provided! I have a better understanding of how these videos are stored now. If I am not mistaken, iTunes seems to think these are cached files, were the iPad sees them in a different way.
As for your suggestion with "Manually manage music and videos", there seems to be some strange behaviour going on. I have been manually managing the content I sync to my iPad for some time, but this option was not checked when I look at the "Summary" page in iTunes. I checked the box and clicked on sync. Once it was done, I went to choose the music I wanted to sync to my iPad. The moment I check the box for "Sync Music" I get the message shown below. I click on "Remove and Sync", then select music to sync to my iPad. Once that sync is done I go back to the "Summary" page and the "Manually manage music and videos" check box is not checked anymore. I am not understanding this option correctly, or is there something strange going on?
