SSH Encryption in Firefox for OSX 10.4.8

im looking to install some sort of SSH tunnel in firefox. i tried installing Tor and privoxy but now i cant access anything on the internet. it says the proxy isnt allowing connections. Now when im trying to access my banking, it says i cannot view the page because my browser doesnt support 128bit encryption. just yesterday, before i installed Tor and Privoxy, i was able to access my banking no problem. i dont know what happened. can you guys help me to get SSH encryption in firefox and fix this other problem with my banking?

SSL within your browser is an entirely different layer but if you have some paranoia, ssh won't help at all unless there is a ssh daemon listening at your bank, which isn't very likely to allow you to connect to it anyway.
You can use ssh from within your network (school or dorm or apartment), that will prevent the echoing of your password in the clear. Better yet, learn SSH's PKI methods and use keys instead of password

  • Cannot upgrade Firefox for OSX 10.8.3

I have letest iMac running OSX 10.8.3. I get notifications to upgrade my Firefox to the latest version but when I try to do it I get a "Software Update Window" which says "Downloading Firefox" and "Connecting to the update server....", the bue line keeps running from left to right but nothing happens.
If I try to do a manual update I am told my current version is 19.0.2 and that "you are currently on the release update channel". If I click on "check for updates" it tells me that updates are available at www.firefox.com. If I go there I am on a Firefox for Android page and at a dead end as to what to do............
    Please advise.

If there are problems with updating or with the permanently then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 21.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application (e.g. open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac
Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

  • Have used firefox for 3 years, have a new computer now and every time I go into my normal places I get a warning about encrypted page and third party viewing, please help!

I have used Mozilla Firefox for 3 years with no issues. I have now purchased a new laptop (Samsung) and cannot access my regular sites (like Windows Live or my banking, most everything) without getting a Yellow waring arrow stating that I am going into an encrypted page and third parties are able to see what I am doing. I am very concerned if others are having access. My bank says it has nothing to do with them...it is an https secure site. I still have major concerns, please help!

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • I just installed the new firefox for Mac OSX 10.6.8 and when I select an image on a site (right click and copy) and paste in Photoshop 5.5, the image lightens. It does not do this in Safari.

    Question
I just installed the new firefox for Mac OSX 10.6.8 and when I select an image on a site (right click and copy) and paste in Photoshop 5.5, the image lightens. It does not do this in Safari.

Firefox, Safari, and PhotoShop each handle embedded color profiles differently. For an add-on that makes it easier to experiment with Firefox's color management options, you might be interested in: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/color-management/ Color Management :: Add-ons for Firefox]. I haven't tried it myself.

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do NOT have; yours is a PPC Mac) '''''<u>and</u>''''' OSX 10.5 or higher

  • I have been a supporter of Firefox for over 10 years in the schools that I work in. Now you no longer support Mac OSX 10.5? Please create an update for this OS

Please create an update to firefox for MAC OS X 10.5.8...I have so many labs that still use this OS and with budget cuts they are not planning to update for the next few years. It cannot be that difficult.

You can use TenFourFox, which is a third-party build of Firefox that works on Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5.

Mozilla already ended support for Leopard a month ago. The developers believe that the resources spent supporting the older operating system would be better used elsewhere. Realistically, one or more enthusiasts asking not to end support isn't going to change the fact the user base isn't large enough to make that kind of effort worthwhile.

  • What type of encryption is firefox using for password protection and how trustworthy is it

I would like to know what kind of encryption FF uses and how I know I can trust it? This is not a bone of contention with FF, I love the product, rather it is just a concern I have that will convince me to let FF manage my financial passwords. Thanks for any assistance with understanding this issue more completely.

The degree of protection very much depends on how strong your master password is.
When using a master password, the data is encrypted using [http://www.tropsoft.com/strongenc/des3.html Triple DES Encryption in CBC mode]. This level of encryption is good for general purpose use. The weak point it the master password, if you have a weak master password there are programs available that will be able to crack the master password, they often do this by using a brute force method. If you use a strong master password, the brute force method will need a very long time to crack passwords. For details on password strength and creating strong passwords see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Password_strength and http://luxsci.com/blog/security-simplified-the-basesuffix-method-for-memorable-strong-passwords.html

  • How do I disable the back and forward gestures in F9 for OSX Lion?

The new gestures in Firefox 9 for OSX Lion that enable you to browse forward and backward with a two-fingered swipe are driving me crazy.
I like the idea, but it's way too sensitive. Every time I'm trying to scroll up or down a page (which also uses two fingers), I accidentally go back because I apparently don't have the skills to swipe up and down the track pad in a perfectly vertical line.
If the feature was adjusted so that the back and forth swiping wasn't so sensitive, this would be a wonderful feature. But as it currently is, it's destroying my browsing experience in Firefox to the point where I'm considering switching browsers.
I haven't found a way to disable just this feature and only in Firefox. Help?

You can set the related <b>gesture</b> prefs to an empty string value on the about:config page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at the top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
    Filter: <b>gesture</b><br />
Double-click the line with the gesture pref that you want to disable and clear its value.

  • How can I restore my old history & bookmarks if I didn't run backup before re-installing a new clean OS? I've been using Firefox for 7 years as default, help me

    Hello,
I believe that what I'm asking is simple & clear. Do you or do you not store user data backups on your servers? I've been using Firefox, as the default browser, for over 7 years. Naturally, I had to upgrade my
pc's & operating systems several times through this period. Every time I use a new device & of course a
new OS, I normally lose my old data (History & Bookmarks).
If you keep records or backups of old users' data, there will be no problem & I could restore all my old data
following your instructions. If not, which is probably the case, I'd like to suggest you consider developing or
at least put more stress on running backup before uninstalling & re-installing a new OS for the users to pay more attention to this issue.
    That's all, thanks.
    Regards,
    Aly Hamed

hello aly, mozilla doesn't keep any of your history or bookmarks on its severs without your expressed consent (would be a horrible privacy policy otherwise) - there's the [[Use Sync to share your Firefox bookmarks, passwords and more with Firefox for mobile|firefox sync feature]] which will store parts of your private data encrypted in the cloud, in case you've used that in the past you'd need 3 components to restore this data: your username, password & the recovery key...
otherwise i don't know of any way to get to your old data if you haven't kept any other backup of some sorts - unfortunately most of us are reminded to the importance of backups when it's already too late :-/
in regard to your suggestion: during the firefox uninstall procedure your personal data isn't removed per default, so it would still be there after a reinstall of the application - you'd have to explicitly check the option to clear this kind of data in the uninstaller. some general information on where to look if you want to backup your firefox data in the future is available here: [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]

  • Install Flash Player 9 for OSX

I’ve installed Flash Player 9 for OSX and it
doesn’t seem to work. I’m not experiencing anything
similar to previous threads. I don’t get any errors and the
installation seems to go fine but when I return to any site that
requires Flash Player 9 it tells me that I need to install the
latest version, which I’ve done. I’ve even uninstalled
and then reinstalled with the same result. Did I miss something
    here?

I have been having the same problem since installing Leopard.
I have tried suggestions from others:
there are no browsers running when I install Flash Player
I have repaired permissions (both before and after
    installing)
    I have uninstalled before reinstalling
None of these work. I am unable to view Flash content in
Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer. I am using a G5 Mac desktop
and have had no previous problems with the Flash player on this
    machine.

  • Download Firefox for Mac fails - no file downloaded.

I try to download Firefox for mac (OSX 10.7.5), and it looks like it is being downloaded (on Safari) but there is no file in the download folder, and no invitation to drag the icon to the applications window. Checked desktop, applications, and documents folder. It just isn't there.

  • I have a MBP with Parallels. I deleted Firefox from OSX and lost all bookmarks. Is there a way to retrive them?

I have a MBP with Lion as well as Parallels and Windows 7. In Lion, I completely uninstalled Firefox using "Clean My Mac." Don't ask me why:( Understandably, my bookmarks are gone.
Are they hidden anywhere they can be retrieved? I have been trying to fix this for three days using all your suggestions but just do not have the savvy to do it alone.
    Help!!
    Dave Cain

Thanks Edmeister. I was able to reach from OSX to Windows 7 to locate and 'Restore' to a bookmark backup file from the Firefox resident to Windows. In fact, I see a list of old dates that are prior to my deleting Firefox from OSX. But none of them changed any of the current bookmarks in OSX Firefox. I then Restored Firefox on the Windows side but it didn't give me any new bookmarks. I was under the impression (incorrectly) that both sides might have the same bookmarks. Wrong answer.
When going into Time Machine, there is also no luck because the Firefox file does not exist in Application Support, so there is nothing to pull from there.
    Sounds like it's game over.

  • What are the features of Mozilla Firefox for Linux?

I found an article on the features of Desktop Firefox. Do Linux and Windows have the same features?
If not, I need to know the features for Linux.

Firefox for Windows, Mac OSX (10.6+) and Linux (from mozilla.org) are pretty much the same.
You may find some of the Menu's and KB shortcuts being a little different on the three OS's due to their OS Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) being followed. Also may have some little appearance differences.
For example Tools->Options on Windows is Firefox->Preferences on Mac and Edit->Preferences on Linux.
Adobe is kind of screwing Linux users with Flash by only supporting Flash 11.2 with security updates.
