Ssh experiencing intermittent disconnects

Im not sure if this is a gateway problem or my ssh configuration. I have a fresh install of arch Linux that i am using to build an HTPC with. I do most of my work through putty since the arch box is connected to our tv . Im using a netctl profile to connect to our LAN with static ip addressing. The problem is that I experience random disconnects while using ssh. Here are the facts:
1) ssh will always work right after I reboot the arch box
2) after a random amount of time i will loose the ability to login to the arch system with putty, or will be kicked off if i am in the middle of a session.
3) After waiting for a random amount of time i will eventually regain the ability to login via putty
4) during these disconnects, my router configuration page will report that my arch box is "offline" however if i login to my HTPC i am still able to ping servers, use pacman to install packages, etc...
If anyone has any idea whats goin on here or can point me in the rite direction i would really appreciate it. I must admit this is my first time posting on any forum. If my description of the problem is not adequate please let me know.

There are other devices on my network but i only use my laptop + putty to login  to my HTPC. We are using a westell modem/router. Every device on the network gets its ip address via dhcp except my HTPC which i have manually configured with a static ip address. I think its worth noting that it was originally configured with dhcp but i changed it to static to see if it would fix the problem. Pinging the HTPC during an outage yields "destination host unreachable". Journalctl -le doesn't return any related info  during these outages either.

• Intermittent Disconnects for clients of 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services

Hello, I have an issue that I am trying to work on for a client who is experiencing intermittent disconnected sessions when logged into a Windows 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services (RDS) server.
As I mentioned, the disconnect is intermittent in nature and almost appears to be network related, although I cannot find any data in the Application, System, or application specific logs to support that.
The RDS server overall does not exhibit any error, but the user's session is briefly interrupted and then restored.  I would like to be able to gain some additional information about what is going on under the hood, but I am having trouble finding any
details on how to turn on debug logging for Terminal Services (er, RDS) on 2008 R2.
Can someone provide some additional details on what kind of logging or other means that I can take on this server in order to gain some additional insight?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi,
There are certain reason for which the client get disconnect from the server. The following are some of the commonly seen symptoms:
• You may be limited in the number of users who can connect simultaneously to a Remote Desktop session or Remote Desktop Services session.
• You may have a port assignment conflict.
• You may have an incorrectly-configured Authentication and Encryption setting.
• You may have a certificate corruption.
More information.

If you want to have log for login\logoff for the client on server end then you can get the information from below log.
Event Viewer>Application and Service Logs>Microsoft>Windows>TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager>Operational
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

• WRT54G: Frequent, but intermittent Disconnects

I have a WRT54G that I've been using for almost 2 years now.  For the most part, the router works great, even though it will occassionaly drop my computer's wired connection and often drop my Xbox's wireless connection.  More recently, I have upgraded to Windows 7 and am experiencing very frequent, but intermittent disconnects which mainly appear to be on the wired end.
Steps I've Taken Thus Far
Updated NIC drivers
Updated Router Firmware (Apparently 8.00.7 is the latest for my router.)
Reset router to factory configuration and reconfigured
Searched all over the internet for a solution
Basically, this is what happens:  I'll be online, usually playing a game or trying to d/l a patch for one and things will be great, but out of nowhere, the router's power light will start blinking and the little SES button (that Cisco one that lights up) will shut off - this is when I lose my connection.  Sometimes it's just temporary and the router will cycle, the powerlight will go solid and the Cisco light will turn back on.  Often, I have to unplug and plug the router back in to get it to cycle.  I don't think I'm losing connection to my cable modem as the Internet light stays active, but maybe.  So it seems to me that I'm mainly losing connection on just my own network.  The strange thing is that sometimes I can go for hours without any trouble but sometimes I can't make it 10 minutes without losing my connection 3 or 4 times.
Any help?

Since you have done all the settings on your Router, and already upgraded the firmware on your Router... As you have mentioned that after a period of time, the power light on your router starts flashing and at that moment you are disconnected from all your computer...
Well i think its a problem with the router itself. I hate to say that but I think its time for you to get a New Router.

• HT204400 Intermittent disconnects or connectivity issues

I have done everything the help guide said to do I even went as far as to move the router to the living room so that I could hard wire to it and I am still having Intermittent disconnects. Can someone please help me?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

• Time capsule intermittently disconnects

I have an intermittent problem with my time capsule. I will be working on my Imac G5 and the mail or safari will not load. The connection my then connect to a neighbors network and then I can continue working. Funny thing is that I am still connect with my ipod touch (inches from my mac) and it is working flawlessly. Sometimes I have to log into the Join other Networks for it to find it again.
Part 2, The opposite often occurs, Somethings the imac can see the network perfectly and the ipod does not. The ipod can not find the network even if I carry the ipod to within inches to the time capsule
I have restarted the time capsule several times. the green light is always on, My software is all up to date, My connections strength are always strong on both device when they are working.
Is the time capsule defective?

Gnorm,
*_Time Capsule Weak Signal Strength_*
Forgive the size of the post, but the suggestions below have helped others with similar issues. Try each topic individually and see if things improve, If not move on to the next one.
*Keep the Time Capsule Cool*
Some posters have observed that when they positioned the Time Capsule for better ventilation and cooling, their network connectivity issues resolved themselves. Also avoid locating the devise within poorly ventilated cabinets or piling items around or on top of it.
*Time Capsule Orientation*
While the location you chose to setup your Time Capsule may be acceptable, but the direction it is oriented can have an effect on signal strength. It appears that the signal of the Time Capsule does not radiate equally from all sides of the devise.
The antennas within the devise are positioned along the 3 smooth sides. That is, there is no antenna on the side bearing the ports and cables. As a result, position the devise with the ports and cables AWAY from the direction of most of the clients that will be connecting to it.
*Cordless Phones*
Some users have discovered that the cordless phones they have in the home occupy or are near the same bandwidth as their wireless network (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz). Try temporarily disabling the handsets and their bases and see if network connectivity improves. If so you may need to change the channel that the phone uses or purchase phones that occupy a different bandwidth.
*Preferred Networks & Airport Services*
You may be experiencing interference from other networks in your neighborhood. When you click the Airport menu are there other networks listed other than your own?
If so, is your network at the top of the list? It should be.
Go to System Preferences --> Network --> Select Airport on the left.
Click "Advanced". In the “Airport” tab note the various local wireless networks that Airport detects. Is the network you prefer to connect to at the top of the list? If not drag it to the top. Are there other networks you never intend to connect to (an old work network, or a neighbors network)? Then highlight them and click the "-" button.
Make sure “Remember any network this computer has joined” is checked.
Click "OK".
For "Network Name" be sure your network is selected and then click "Apply".
Is Airport (wireless) your primary means of connecting to your network? If so, is Airport at the top of the list of services on the left? It should be.
Click the small “Gear” button at the bottom of the window and select “Set Service Order”.
Now drag Airport to the top of the list.
Click “OK”. Click “Apply”.
Now see if network connectivity has improved.
*Transmit Power & Wide Channels*
If you are using the 802.11n only (5GHz) radio mode, you can also select to use wide channels, which provide higher data throughput in your network.
Launch Airport Utility
Select your Time Capsule on the left.
Click “Manual Setup”.
Select “Airport” in the toolbar.
Click the “Wireless” tab.
Click “Wireless Options...” at the bottom of the window.
Adjust the “Transmit Power” to 100%.
Put a check mark in the box labeled “Use Wide Channels”. (If you are using a 802.11a/b/g (2.4GHz) radio mode then select “Interference Robustness”)
Click “Done”.
Click “Update” in the lower right hand corner.
Wait for the Time Capsule to restart and then see if your network speeds improve.
Let us know if any of the above helped improve your situation.
Cheers!

• Help!!! Broadband Intermittently Disconnects

Please someone cast a eye on these figures and tell me if anything is wrong please???
Our broadband randomly disconnects sometimes upto 10 times a night only for a brief time of say 10-30 seconds but enough to kick my wife  and me off off xbox live or our laptops go to local only connection! The broadband light on the HH3 does not even go out, but sometimes the conection screen comes on our laptops showing the BB light flashing. I have phoned tech support in india (even spoke to George Michael lol) i've had the cover plate removed several times and had a BT engineer change it for a new one with seperate ADSL and phone sockets. Our profile has been reset and if the speed is right below im well pleased. it's just these **bleep** disconnections thats driving me mad. We have another engineer comming tomorrow who according to my last contact is going to fix the problem once and for all!! It's not a HH3 problem as this has happened on a Dratek Vigor, Belkin N300 and a Belkin N600. Brought the HH3 on recomendation from a BT tech support agent who said they could not help me anymore as they only train on HH's!!!!
This has been ongoing for six month now and im rather annoyed.
On the troubleshooting page on every disconnect is logged on the WAN. I've printed this off for the engineer, any ideas where else I can direct him!!! the previous chap tested everything with his kit and found no fault! five mins after he left it went again!

• Intermittent disconnections!!

Hi I have had a quick read through and cannot see the problem answered and fact the only similar problem back in Jan this year never got resolved so here goes
I can use the internet almost at any time however at random the internet can disconnect and reconnect and sometimes repeat this as often as 5 times in a few minutes
I read an associated post re comments on noise (the poster had low noise mine is higher)
It appears that only the broadband is temporarily disconnected and can sometimes reconnect in seconds instead 30-60 seconds
Im using a bt HH black version-with no BT suppied phones attached

Now only around 2 years back BT visited and as the BT box was old the engineer re run the BT cable in to a connection point, from here new cable to master socket with a built in filter(2 socket outlet) a spur was taken from the bt line (not filter) in new cable to around 5-6 meters to my office where my router is and just 2 days back I changed this filter...just in case.
So all cables are new'ish and filters are new.
The problem has only become noticeable in the last month, maybe slightly less
I'm not keen on talking to the indian help desk, who ask me to disconnect and reconnect and when you call back the new operator says disconnect and reconnect, unless my problem is on their script they dont know.
What can i do to reduce noise?
The router has been placed at the master with no difference, in regards to electrical interferance it is roughly 1.5m metres from my PC through a few pieces of wood...any further it would not be in my office and therefore wireless...besides its been working fine for many years
When we boot up laptops wireless works ok
Most notible as I get the IE screen from BT saying no broadband connection and if playing MOH i also get kicked off...which bugged me as i never knew why, but now I know why

• WRT54G v.6 intermittent disconnections

I've been using my WRT54G router for a year now and it always worked pretty well. But about a month ago i started to lose internet connection every now and then (maybe 1 or 2 times each day). Now the problem occurs approximately every hour. I updated the firmware yesterday hoping it would resolve it but it didn't.
The connection always goes away for about 5 seconds and then comes back from itself. I witnessed that the orange light illuminating the Cisco Systems "logo" turns off during the time internet is disconnected. Also, i think the problem comes from the router itself because everything connected to has the same problem simultaneously (my computer, wich is connected to it with a ethernet cable and every other device connected to it wireless like other computers/game consoles). When i connect my computer directly to the modem (without using the router) it works perfectly well so the problem does not come from it. I searched the web for people having a similar problem but i didn't found anything like it.
If anyone out there has a suggestion it would be very appreciated because i tried a lot of things and i am now thinking about buying a new router.
PS : Sorry for my english... it's far from perfect

After you perform a firmware upgrade on the router, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then re-configure the router. If you have not resetted the router after the upgrade, then reset your router...  Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds.Plug the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button for 30 Seconds.Release the reset button.  To re-configure your router click here , Also change the Wireless Settings and try to connect...Check if this helps...

• Intermittant disconnection of Shared Drives on Windows 7 Client machines hosted in WIndows Server 2008 Standard Edition

The environment - Windows Server 2008 Standard/Windows 7 32 bit Client machine.
Share - It is not a DFS share.
Antivirus - McAfee
The issue - 1 user is unable to connect to a particular shared drive hosted from within the Windows Server 2008 Standard file server.  This drive is one of the multiple drives which are supposed to be connected to the user machine during logon using
the logon script.  All the other drives mentioned in the logon script gets mapped fine but one particular drive does not.  The user uses a laptop and we have checked his connections while in LAN, Wireless, VPN.  Everything seems to be working
fine apart from this one shared drive.  Rest of the users within that office gets the drive fine but just not this one user.  Since we are not domain admins so we do not have a visibility of the group policies linked to this particular drive and
hence RSOP as well does not help.  We have not seen the user getting logged into the machine using a TEMP profile as well for us to ascertain that the issue may be with a TEMP profile logon.
Please note that the drive does get connected at times and at times the connection just drops off!  As an interim measure the local IT has created a batch file and given it to the user which maps the drive for the user.
Any help in resolving this long impending issue would be much appreciated!
Suman

Hi Suman,
You could keep the session always active to workaround this issue. Please open Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policy -> Security Options and set the value of the policy Microsoft Network Server:Amount
of idle time required before suspending a session to 99999 and see how it works.
This security setting determines the amount of continuous idle time that must pass in a Server Message Block (SMB) session before the session is suspended due to inactivity. Administrators can use this policy to control when a computer suspends an inactive
SMB session. If client activity resumes, the session is automatically reestablished. For this policy setting, a value of 0 means to disconnect an idle session as quickly as is reasonably possible. The maximum value is 99999, which is 208 days; in effect, this
value disables the policy.

• Still experiencing intermittent yahoo mail issues

Password not correct, sending takes a long time.  Im still having these intermittent issues although it's better than it was a couple days ago.  Anyone else still having problems?

I have the same problem. At the bottom of the inbox window, it momentarily says "Downloading 1 of 250" then quickly changes to "Updated Just Now" without displaying any email. All other folders show mail!!! Only the inbox does not display email. I have also tried hard-resetting the iPhone.

• Vnc, ssh ports intermittently not accepting connections since upgrading to 10.10.1

Since upgrading I cannot remote access my mac book air 2014. Prior to the upgrade I did not have any issues. I have not changed any networking / firewall settings.
Sometimes it works, other times the vnc and ssh ports do not accept connections.
Running nmap on another host on the local LAN reports all ports as being filtered.
Other times, nmap shows 22, 5900, and the AFP port open, as expected.
I know there have been reports of wi-fi issues, and this machine is using wi-fi.
Is it possible that when the screen blanks after a period of the machine not being used, that the wi-fi connection is going into a power down mode?
I don't see the ports being filtered when I am using the machine, it's only after I've left the house and I try to remotely connect.

• Phone intermittently disconnects 4g without notice or warning.  What's wrong?

Every so often (sometimes as much as once a day) my 4G connection randomly turns off.  Usually after switching between WiFi on/off.  I notice that it gets stuck in 3G and I will have to manually go into Settings > More Settings... > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > and check "LTE" back ON.
This is getting really old.  Sometimes I will not even receive any service even if 3G is on.  Data will not send/receive until I go in and manually check LTE back on again.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  Any solution?

Settings > More settings > Mobile networks > Network Mode > LTE/CDMAI found this method caused other issues...such as not receiving service in some areas where Global would.
Removing the SIM card, leave out 5 minutes, reinsert SIM and reboot.Only temporary fix.
New Sim cardI'm on my second one...Best Buy gave me a hard time replacing my first one (apparently they're supposed to charge you for it...ha).  I might try this again, but I am skeptical.
Getting a CLN replacement phone under warranty. What is a CLN?  I have Best Buy warranty...I really do not want to send it out for repair or even get a refurb.  Too much hassle.  Would be last resort.
Returning the phone to Samsung for repair.Last resort...way too much hassle.
Settings > Application Manager > All > Caller Name ID > DisableDid this a long time ago.  This bloat-ware caused many other issues that were resolved, but this one persists.
PrayerHa,
Thank you for your suggestions!

• Mouse intermittently disconnects and almost immediately reconnects.

This frustrating situtation has been going on for months and I'm at my wit's end in trying to figure it out.  I will be typing a note in email or whatever and all of a sudden the mouse disconnects.  Within 10 - 20 seconds it reconnects.  Help please.
Thanks

Glad it helped.
