SSH server encoding issues

I use Windows at work and I log in to my Macbook via SSH. I configured my SSH client to assume UTF-8 encoding, and my +$LANG+ and +$LC_ALL+ are set to +fr_CA.UTF8+.
However, if I create a file named "Rémi", here's how it comes in a file listing:
*-rw-r--r-- 1 remi staff 0B Jul 7 11:24 Re??mi*
What can I do to fix this problem?

auto complete is bash or whatever shell you are running.
ls is not bash. Different programs treating data differently.
So Vim and nano could be doing the same wrong thing ls is doing.
Each individual program is its own world and gets to mess up that world the way it wants

  • Character encoding issue in sql server

    Hi Team,
We have a table with more than 20 columns...In that we have some columns which will have data extracted from the Datawareshouse applicances and its one time load.
The problem is we have two columns which will may have same set of values from some records and for different set of records
the below values are the example for same set of records but the values are changed while importing into the sql server database..
    2pk Etiquetas Navide‰as 3000-HG
     2pk Etiquetas Navideñas 3000-H
Is there anyway to change the first column values into the second column value ?
By looking at the data we can say its the code page issue..(Character encoding issue)..but how to convert it?
    Convertting(2pk Etiquetas Navide‰as 3000-HG)
to get   2pk Etiquetas Navideñas 3000-H   in the select query?

Then it seems that you can do the obvious: replace it.
    DECLARE @Sample TABLE ( Payload NVARCHAR(255) );
    INSERT INTO @Sample
    VALUES ( N'2pk Etiquetas Navide‰as 3000-HG' );
    UPDATE @Sample
    SET Payload = REPLACE(Payload, N'‰', N'ñ');
    SELECT S.Payload
    FROM @Sample S;

  • Ssh server with keys for authentication?

Anyone have a link to doco or tutorial that covers how to setup an ssh server running on your Mac (latest version OSX) such that:
    * assumption - port forward ssh port on your home gateway to your Mac
    * keys established (for better security) - i.e. need to have the key available on your external PC when wanting to ssh back to home
    * custom ssh port
    * only access ssh requires for logon from predefined external IP addresses (or perhaps this is something you'll setup on your home internet gateway/router along with port forwarding)

    hi kbwrecker,
as i know, sharepoint will as well follow the diagram that you posted before, additional article
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262350(v=office.15).aspx#plansaml
i checked with our ADFS engineer, the certificate is to sign the token, so, it should not have any relation directly to each of the realm.
i am not quite sure on how this ADFS and token signing, will work that deep, as from sharepoint side, we may need only the certificate that is valid, and update them to our environment, to make it work.
for more details regarding this issue, you may try to open a thread as well in the ADFS thread for this.
based on the additional article, your design may able to work, but we encourage you to seek more deep answer in ADFS forum thread

  • Moving ssh server off port 22

I want to move my ssh server off port 22.
I understand I need to modify /etc/sshd_config to replace the line
    #Port 22
    by
    Port 2222 (or whatever)
but must I also modify something in /etc/services ?
I'm running 10.4.5 Tiger on both server and client.
There seem to have been discussions in the forums last year but some of these
    are already archived or deleted...

    PPS
I think you have perhaps missed the point here. Yes - security is a concern - but not one I was addressing with this question. LittleSaint realized I might be concerned about security issues and I agree that simply moving off port 22 has little effect beyond "security by obscurity". That's why moving off port 22 was not my initial priority. Now I have in place what I consider to be reasonable security measures I thought moving away from port 22 would nevertheless still be helpful.
In my experience it is not true that robot scanners commonly search for ports on which ssh is running. I regularly have log entries in my /var/log/ipfw.log for ports such as 80, 106, 443 and others, but since I don't have services running on these ports it doesn't seem to matter: the packets are blocked by ipfw and as far as I know nothing further happens. The difference with ssh is that someone could be legitimately trying to login. When I see 900 lines in /var/log/ipfw.log with non-existent user names then it is an irritation. I can use grep to check if they happen to hit on a valid user name, but I am currently thinking that if my ssh server was running on port 2**@ instead of 22 then probably I wouldn't see 900 lines in my log file.
I have seen the effect of an nmap scan on my system to scan every single port - but only because my Systems Manager obligingly had a go -- I have not yet seen such a scan arrive from the wild.
Point me in the direction of any further security measure I can take. At present I feel I have done everything sensible - but always open to new suggestions.

  • Encoding issue for some languages

    hi,

on another (dev box running on unix), some languages giving encoding issues.
    where to check? any suggestions?

no encoding issues if i use xml (xlf or xliff) bundle as xml supports utf-8 encoding.

  • Fails to connect to SSH Server

    Hi
I have a IDM-7.1 installation which should connect to a solaris 8 resource running an old ssh server (1.2.31) and when I run a Test Configuration on this resource I get this error message:
    Test connection failed for resource(s):
Solaris: Could not connect to my.hostname:22: Can't connect to a server with version SSH-1.5-1.2.31
I guess it is because IDM's ssh client will only talk to SSH2 servers, is there any way of getting it to connect or must I upgrade the SSH server first?
    Regards
    Thomas

    Thomas,
Upgrading to SSH2 will allow you to integrate fully. Pre-SSH2 versions is not supported by the Solaris adapter.
The com.waveset.adapter.SolarisResourceAdapter (in other terms the solaris adapter) extends the SVIDResourceAdapter which implements ScriptedConnection. ScriptedConnection leverages Appgates ssh2 package. More information about the ssh2 package can be found : http://www.appgate.com/products/80_MindTerm/80_API_Documentation/com/mindbright/ssh2/package-summary.html
Now, the good news is that there is an ssh1 package available so by writing your own addition to the standard code you should be able to leverage the ssh1 package part of the com.mindbright packages.
So if you are forced to integrate using SSH1.5 - write some additional code to do it, else upgrade the SSH daemon to an SSH2 compatible daemon. The latter is to my opinion good decision anyway.
    Anyway, thats my 2 cents..
    /Anders

  • Premiere and Media Encoder CC encoding issue

    Hi all,
I am having an encoding issue with PP and ME CC. My video assets are fine, and on the timeline they appear how they should, but when I look at the rendered h264 video there are encoding errors in the video. I have attached two images, the black is how it should look and the white is the error. The video plays fine and then it flickers between the images shown.
It has done this on a few different videos I have rendered over the last few days and I don't know why. It also happens to a different machine on CC as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi James,
I've never seen this before. Can you give us more info? Answer all the questions on this FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

  • Acrobat Connect Pro LMS 7.5 server cache issue - displaying old content

Our Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro server is showing old Captivate-created content from about 4-6 weeks ago.
I loaded 35+ sets of Captivate 3 (SCORM 1.2, HTML, zipped) content onto our Acrobat Connect Pro LMS about 6 weeks ago.
I converted all training content from Captivate 3.0.1 to 4.0.1, 4 weeks ago by opening each file in Captivate 4 and following prompts to "Save As" new files with different file names.
I reloaded all content 4 weeks ago, and again 2 weeks ago.
I reloaded about half of all content again last week.
End User Acceptance testing performed this week showed that most of the courses are showing old content, ranging from 2-6 weeks old
    Attempted fixes and workarounds:
Deleting content entirely and reloaded from scratch - this will not work long term, as we lose usage data each time we reload completely new files.
Contacted Adobe, provided times to track incidents of the issue.  We reached Tier 2 - who told us it was our problem and that everything appeared to be working fine from their side.
New workaround - load new content and reattach course to new content.  This presents the same long term issue as the first workaround, but enables us to retain older versions of content in the system, should we need to revert or report on it.
Gaining server side access is a bit challenging due to the hosting situation we have, so I am looking (ideally) for a solution that can be performed from the Administrator/Author Frontend.  However, I want to learn the real cause of the problem, wherever it might reside, so that it can be properly corrected and avoided in the future.  I am calling this a server cache issue, as it seems the server has somewhere retained unwanted old versions of content, preventing current content from being displayed to end users.  Viewing content as an end user = see old content.  Viewing content from the Content area (Author view) shows the current files, so I know they are on the server and are loading correctly, up to a point.
I am preparing all content for another round of loading/reloading due to other issues and updates, so republishing and reloading all 35+ files into the LMS is unavoidable at this point.
This issue is keeping our LMS from launching to several thousand users across the country, so any suggestions or helpful tips are much appreciated.

I think I have isolated the source of this problem. It's the Pitstop Professional 9 plug in. I un-installed this, and everything opens quicker than greased lightning. I re-installed it and it's back to slowsville.
Unfortunately Pitstop is essential to my workflow.
Until recently I did my pre-press on a Mac G5 with Acrobat Pro 7 and Pitstop 6.5. I never had this problem with slow file opening. But it seems that the delays would occur when I used the plug-in with large complex files.. So it would open files as fast as you'd expect from an elderly machine. But starting to use Pitstop would result in a prolonged period of staring at a spinning beachball.
I wonder is there any way to stop the Pitstop plug-in from initializing until it is used? So the plug-in stays inert until you select the tool from from the menus.

  • Encoding Issue : JMS and Mapping : utf-8 iso8859-1

    Hi All,
I am facing some problem with encoding issue.
Scenario :  JMS -->  SAP PI --> JMS
Requirment : Input plain text file contain some special characters,"©®" . Based on this condition,In Java Mapping
we check the Payload and changed the 'encoding' tag to UTF-8 or   ISO8859-1.
                   : <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>     in the target XML output.
While testing in Operation mapping our Java mapping works fine. as the encodeing tag changes from
UTF-8 to ISO8859-1 if the special character exists. But if I test the same in Integration Directory(Test Configuration)
or did a end to end  testing. The encoding tag did'nt changes.
For testing we had to a set of Plain Text files with UTF-8 and ISO8859-1 .
I tried the options of using beans in Adapter modules in Sender JMS channel.
    MessageTransformBean, TextCodepageConversionBean, XmlAnonymizerBean

  • Embedding HTML in XML CDATA and encoding issues

    Hi all,
I'm embedding HTML code in a CDATA section. My problem is that, depending on the document, the HTML can be encoded in many formats. I borrowed a piece of code that sniffs that format so i can create String in the "right" encoding (or at least the one that was guessed).
    - If I directly injected those in the CDATA section, i guess they'd be encoded in UTF-8 and some character would be misinterpreted?
    - What if i would transcode the HTML from the sniffed format to utf-8?
-Are there any issues woth doing this?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm quite new to that kind of encoding issues.
    BTW i'm using DOM.
    Thanks
    lexo

I don't know if it's a dumb question. I just don't understand it at all. Encoding issues only arise when you write data from a Java program to an external location, or when you read data from an external location into a Java program. And none of the activities you mentioned there have anything to do with that.
When you write your XML to an external file, or wherever you write it to, it gets encoded at that moment. The whole thing. Elements, attributes, CDATA sections, the whole thing. Doesn't matter what's in it, the whole thing gets encoded in whatever charset was chosen.
    Does that help?

Problem could come from internal and external data format.
Depending on your SRM release, check OSS notes for report you used to generate approval mail ( RSWUWFMLEC, RBBP_NOTIFICATION_APP, etc.).

Ask to your Outlook team to have a look at Outlook settings.
You can also check OSS note 1319517 - Unicode Collection Note.

  • Z10 encoding issue in outgoing email

Hoping someone can help me. I've been an avid bb fan for years and my husband and I both handed in our bonds a week ago to move to the z10. We are both loving it. While my husband has had no issues with his I am very close to having no issues - except for one major one that affects me and my clients greatly. I have 2 email accounts - gmail (working without any issue at all - was up and running within a matter of minutes of receiving my z10). The other however has not been a fun or even manageable experience. My work email is web based and took a few days for me to even get it up and running. With my bold I was able to connect via Exchange but am no longer able to do so. I was told to connect via Active sync however my employer does not have this functionality and it is not supported. Following that I was told to connect using either IMAP or POP. And while I have been finally able to connect and receive my email when I SEND email it is a disaster!!!!! My out going mail seems to be adding in all of the encoding and so it becomes "unreadable" for lack of a better term. I have no idea where to turn on this. I have been constantly surfing and searching and and all forums that I can in hopes to find a resolution but have not yet found one - this is my last resort - otherwise sadly ....... Very, very sadly I will have to return my phone. Any suggestions at all would be much appreciated! Sorry for the "long-winded ness"

  • [SOLVED] File name encoding issue

    Hi all,
I have a large series of files with accented characters, they were all displayed nicely, but at some point, when I copied them to another computer, the characters were replaced by codes, for instance: "ó" --> "ó".
+Renaming ie. "Pasó" (bad encoding of "Pasó") --> Pasó, while writing it, it shows the correct character, but when pressing enter the name remains ("Pasó")
+If I rename the file to something else and then to the correct name, it will accept it: Pasó --> Pas --> Pasó will display correctly.
I don't know if it's a system wide encoding issue because new files are displayed correctly, but I would like to know if I have to change file names manually to make them right.
PS. When copying bad encoded files to another FS (like a USB drive), nautilus and bash refuse to copy them.

  • Impossible to connect to an ssh server with Mysecureshell

    Hi,
I have a SSH server (openssh) with MySecureShell and fail2ban installed.
When I try to connect as an user whose shell is MySecureShell, I got "permission denied" (in terminal) or "critical error, impossible to connect" in filezilla. As soon as I replace /bin/MySecureShell by /bin/bash in /etc/passwd, I am able to connect. When I desactivate fail2ban, nothing changes. The problem is thus likely to come from MySecureShell.
    I append my /etc/ssh/sshd_config:
    # $OpenBSD: sshd_config,v 1.89 2013/02/06 00:20:42 dtucker Exp $
    # This is the sshd server system-wide configuration file. See
    # sshd_config(5) for more information.
    # This sshd was compiled with PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin
    # The strategy used for options in the default sshd_config shipped with
    # OpenSSH is to specify options with their default value where
    # possible, but leave them commented. Uncommented options override the

It's possible for a user to log in to bash and then run the script, so it doesn't seem to be a file permission problem.
Do you also get the "permission denied"?
My workaround is to purely remove MySecureShell, but this is not very safe.
Yes I'm also getting a permission denied error. I guess this might be something we need to set in PAM config, but I wasn't able to find it.
