SSID only from few Access points

Hi all
I am going to create a new WLAN id/SSID in wireless controller which is Cisco 4402 and once i create it the ssid is going to be pushed to all the access points but i want to broadcast the SSID only to few access points, is there anyway can we do that either in the controller itself or from WCS. please let me know
thanks

Hello,
Yes, you can shape that traffic. Its call Cisco AP Groups. You can simply check the config guide for confi efforts. What code are you on, if you are on 4.2 you can do WLAN Overide.
Hope this helps ...

  • Broadcast SSID only on defined Access Points?

I'm using a Cisco Wireless LAN Controller 5508, 14x Access Points 1041 and 6x Access Points 1031 in combination with a NCS 1.0.
Is it possible to broadcast SSID'S only on defined Access Points, e.g. AP 1-3,7-10,18? If yes, what have I to do?
    Kind regards
    Kai

Quick question, can you validate the below scenario please
    We have seven SSIDs
WLAN           Dynamc Interface that its mapped to
    WHSE10          VLAN10-10.0.10.0/24
    WHSE20          VLAN20-10.0.20.0/24
    WHSE30          VLAN30-10.0.30.0/24
    WHSE40          VLAN40-10.0.40.0/24
    Office50           VLAN50-10.0.50.0/23
    Office60           VLAN60-10.0.60.0/23
    Guest70           VLAN70-172.16.8.0/23
we have around 40 access points in the warehouse and 20 APs in the office, and we are broadcasting SSIDs everywhere, means office and guest SSID s exist on the WHSE APS and WHSE SSID s exist on office APs.
Does having more SSIDs on the APs affects its power (Signal strength) in anyway?
    APgroup1- WHSE-GROUP- (will add VLAN10,VLAN20,VLAN30,VLAN40 interfaces)
    APgroup2- WHSE-OFFICE- (Will add all VLANS-10,20,30,40,50,60 and 70)
APgroup3- OFFICE-GROUP-( Will add only office and Guest WLANs- VLAN50,60 and 70)
We won't need to broadcast any WHSE SSIDs in the office area so we will add the Office APS to ----  APgroup3- OFFICE-GROUP
The WHSE APS will need to advertise both office and WHSE SSID s but we don't need to broadcast Office SSIDs everywhere in the warehouse, so we assign some APs in WHSE to APgroup2- WHSE-OFFICE and some to APgroup1- WHSE-GROUP
How does the client roaming work in the above scenario when they move from APs in APgroup1 to APs in APgroup2 (I don't think this will be any different than normal client roaming from one AP to another AP but I want to make sure)
    Thanks for the help

  • Packet drop when clients moving from one Access point to another

    HI  All ,
I am new to wireless . I am using  WS-SVC-WISM-1-K9  wism module and using 5 Access points . When my clients are moving from one access point to another we are getting packet drops .
Kindly anyone suggest me what all configuration i need to verify on the controller  for Proper client roaming so that i can resolve my issues..
Please let me know in case of any explanations requiered .
    Thanks  in Advance !!!
    Regards
    Angus

For radius authenticated SSIDs, you need WPA2-aes or wpa1-tkip-CCKM. It depends on what the client supports.
For pre-shared key, any WPA should be decent enough for roaming speed.
If you're on WEP ... no comment.
If you covered the above point, check if it's not a coverage problem. If the 2 APs coverage zone are not overlapping there will be a hole where you don't have signal and logically will have packet drops.

  • SSID set on specific access points

    Hi All,
I have an installation of 1 wireless controller at a head office and some access points distributed to two locations. One of these locations has requested a guest wireless access. Please advise if i can setup the guest wireless ssid to only be projected from the aps in one location?
I would not like to have both locations see the SSID.
    Thanks

Yes you can. You just need to use AP Groups which allows you to specify what SSID and interface you want that ap to use. Then if you want to drop off the traffic locally you can setup the APs in FlexConnect mode.

  • Kin1m- Can't pull DHCP from any Access Point on 2 different phones

I am hoping someone can help us.
I have two kin1m phones, and have recently attempted to use the WIFI connectivity.  Browsing works fine via the data plan, however, I blocked the data plan (online), intending to only use WIFI on the phones but cannot get either of the two phones to work via WiFi.
Have have tried two different access points, and everything from OPEN to WEP to WPA2 and both AES and TKIP.
I get connected to the access point just fine, but the only address that is allocated is the DNS server.  The IP, subnet, gateway, etc. remain blank or all zeros for about 5 minutes, then it sets a default apipa address in the 169.254.x.x class B range.
This is the same on both phones, so I have a tough time believing this is a defect.  Like I said, I have tried both a Linksys WAP4400N (Firmware Version: 1.2.14) and a TrendNet TEW-430APB
Please advise, as my kids are going to DRIVE ME CRAZY over this!
    Thanks,

... But that is a dhcp server, not a client.  In other words, you are trying to tell your computer to provide other computers on that public network with IP addresses.  Because you did not set your configuration file up to serve that subnet, the server choose to ignore it.  This is fortunate, because the owner of that network might not have appreciated that
You want to run dhcpcd, which is a client.  You might also try dhclient, a client that sometimes is more forgiving.

  • RTP300 used only as a access point on LAN with WRTP54G

I have the RTP300 which I want to use as an access point for my wireless laptop to my working WRTP54G LAN. The LAN has 2 servers with 4 USB printers that I need to use from the AP. The LAN is on 192.168.40.xxx but when I put the AP there everything shuts down. Any suggestions on the setup. If I seperate the AP to 192.168.30.1 it works to the internet but no LAN use.

  • SSIDs and VLAN on access points

The commands to map an SSID to a VLAN on an IOS access point are basically like this:
    [snip]
    dot11 ssid MYSSID
    vlan 5
    interface Dot11Radio0
    ssid MYSSID
    interface Dot11Radio0.5
    encapsulation dot1q 5
    bridge-group 5
    interface FastEthernet0
    interface FastEthernet0.5
    encapsulation dot1q 5
    bridge-group 5
    [snip]
My question is this: what does the command "vlan 5" actually do? Does it map MYSSID to bridge-group 5, which is then mapped to 802.1q tag 5 by the subinterface configurations (so that the tag number is arbitrary), or does it map MYSSID to 802.1q tag 5 on the radio interface, which is then bridged to the appropriate dot1q subinterface on the wired side by the bridge group (so that the bridge group number is arbitrary)?

Vlan tag is tied to SSID and Bridge group is also tagged to appropriate vlan mentioned as bridge group number

  • AirPort only sees the access point I am connected to

    Friends,
I am aware of numerous discussions on these forums revolving around AirPort and wifi-issues. I have searched by cannot find this one with its own thread, and think the issue might be buried in there with others.
One peculiar issue I see is that when I am not connected to any wifi network, AirPort will see them all and ask which one I want to connect to. However, when I select a specific network and bind to it, all of the other networks disappear in the drop-down box activated when you click the signal strength meter.
On a day-to-day basis, this doesn't matter, but sometimes, if I want to configure a travel wifi router at home, I have to jump through a few hoops so that my MacBook Pro will see the other one.
Perhaps this monogamous behavior is intended, but I would like to be able to "interact" with different access points whenever I'd like.
This issue must have been already reported; I just can't find it. Apologies in advance if this is a redundant report. I am running 10.5.1

No, do not hit reset .. it is not a WPS button.
Apple products do not use WPS, so no WPS button is needed. And they have no need to implement one.. nothing exists outside the Apple bubble.. didn't you know that??
Read the forum expert Tesserax instructions for using WPS. https://discussions.apple.com/message/16034147#16034147
But it is better to plug in your printer to a mac by usb and use the disk provided to do a full manual setup of wireless.. WPS is simply the easy way.

  • Pulling traffic details from WAP4410N Access Point

    Hi
I recently got WAP4410N access point and hoped I could count traffic of my home users using syslog (my tenants cost me quite a lot per month).
Here is what the manual says:
Syslog Notification—Syslog is a standard protocol used to capture
information about network activity. The access point supports this protocol
and sends its activity logs to an external server. To enable Syslog, click
    Enabled. The default is Disabled.
    - Syslog Server IP Address—Enter the IP address of the Syslog server.
In addition to the standard event log, the access point can send a
detailed log to an external Syslog server. The access point’s Syslog
captures all log activities and includes this information about all data
transmissions: every connection source and destination IP address, IP
server, and number of bytes transferred.
I enabled Syslog Notifications and set Syslog Server IP Address to one of the local IPs connected through this AP.
The target PC has win7 installed. I use WinSyslog to save all the incoming logs to a file.
There were no logs recorded till I ticked all the options Administration->Log->Log section in the AP configuration utility.
Now I get records for logins to the  configuration utility but nothig else.
Can I get traffic data (source-destination and number of butes transferred) from the AP somehow?
    Thanks

Hi Peter, this is a Windows feature (a confusing one at that). On the same Window where the message displays asking for the PIN should say something like "Connect to the network without setting it up". This should take care of that for you.

  • Capturing MAC Addresses from an Access Point AP1131 with SNMP

    Hi!
I'm trying to use SNMP to track information as to whats connected to
our access points. The purpose is basic security and auditing in case
of a problem ( virus, technical problem, etc ). We're already able to
capture what wired devices are connected, but not the MAC addresses of
    the wireless clients.
We're employing Cisco Aironet APs 1131, and looking around the MIBs, I found
one object that has what I want, but it's not accessible.
    cDot11ClientAddress OBJECT-TYPE
    SYNTAX MacAddress
    MAX-ACCESS not-accessible
    STATUS current
    DESCRIPTION
"The MAC address of the client."
    ::= { cDot11ClientConfigInfoEntry 1 }
Does any one know another way to get this information via SNMP?
    Thanks U by advance!

  • WLCCP packets from 3 access points multicasting over 250 packets per second!?!

I've tried to discover why these three access points are sending WLCCP packets at this astonishing rate. I cannot determine when it started, however I believe it is causing many problems. I don't see any configuration items in the running config containing the keyword "wlccp". such as:
    AP>(config)# wlccp ?
      ap                                  Enable WLCCP AP
      authentication-server    Authentication Server
wds                               Enable Wireless Domain Service Manager
      wnm                              Configure Wireless Network Manager
Is it implicitly ON? Do I need to do "no wlccp ap" to turn it off.
I desperately need to make this stop?
Anybody have or have seen this phenomenon?

I have stopped the problem by putting tight multicast and broadcast storm control on every switch where an access point ingresses. That cleared up my wireless congestion. But the problem persists. The source MAC of the WLCCP packets are actually specific clients that are attached across the wireless via a work-group bridge. These are IP cameras and Network Video Recorders... why this? Hmmm.... no one knows....

  • Similar SSID for two 1252 access points

Hi, we currently have one 1252 AP. It has two Vlans. One for data and one for voice. Just bought another 1252 AP and going to have similar setup.
I read I can have similar SSID so that uses don't need to re-authenticate to the other AP. If this is true, can I just copy the config.txt file to the other AP, except of course I'll change the static IP addr of the AP. Pls advise, thks.

    Hi sohocisco,
Keeping the same SSID/VLAN will ensure that L2 roaming is possible, which is what you want. Depending on your authentication methods, though, you may need to configure WDS in order to ensure for seamless roaming as you describe.
Note that this is only if you're using and EAP or WPA (non-PSK) authentication method. Please see this document for configuration assistance:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/12.3_7_JA/configuration/guide/s37roamg.html
    I hope that helps!

  • Migration from autonomous access point mode to lightweight mode on 1530

1500 series is not mentioned on:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html
Can it actually be upgraded just by changing IOS from APto CAP?

The 1530 should have the image k9w8 alreadyin flash:
    Autonomous Mode Configuration
The 1530 Series allows the Unified  (controller-based) and Autonomous mode software to be loaded at the  factory on the same hardware part number. This eliminates the need for  separate part numbers for controller-based units and autonomous mode  units.
At boot-up, the default mode is controller-based.  The 1530 will power up and begin searching for a controller. Once it  joins the controller, it will download the active Unified image from the  controller. This is the same operation as other Cisco controller-based  APs.
For Autonomous mode, the user should take the following steps:
Step 1 Power the AP and connect to the console.
Step 2 From the Command Line, enter:
AP # capwap ap autonomous (# means privileged EXEC mode)
Step 3 The system will respond with "Convert to Autonomous image. Proceed? (yes/[No]):"
Step 4 Type "yes" to confirm.
Step 5 The AP will then re-boot and load the Autonomous image. The unified image is erased.
Step 6 Once the 1530 has booted in autonomous mode, configuration of the AP can done by following the procedure outlined here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/wireless/access_point/12.4_10b_JA/configuration/guide/scg12410b.html
You can probably issue a dir or show flash: and then if the image is there, you can boot to it.
    Example:
    config t
    boot system flash:/ap3g2-k9w8-mx.v152_4_jb/ap3g2-k9w8-mx.v152_4_jb
