SSID Problems
I just got home with a new MacBook Pro, and spent a couple of hours trying to get a suitable connection to my home wireless setup. First, I had all kinds of trouble getting the new machine to even connect using WEP. My MacBook never has had any problems... So, after finally getting everything working, I went back into the router setup to disable the SSID broadcast like always. Now the MacBook Pro cannot connect. Of course the MacBook can... When I turn the SSID broadcast back on, and reboot the MBPro, it connects right away.
Any ideas?

i've been dealing with this same problem w/ my MB and now my MBP. my work around is turn off airport and then switch it back on. funny thing is that my home setup is two airport expresses, and yet both the MB and MBP fail to connect or switch between the two APXs seamlessly.
i've seen someone pointed out that it's the 10.4.8 update that messed up airport and he/she posted a fix. but iirc my problem started well before the os update. it started when apple tried to fix my MB's RSD and now continues to my MBP after everything was migrated.
i'm gonna get the C2D, hopefully the pre-N airport card will work differently.

Hi. now i'm using WRV200 Router model.(use Multi SSID)
- first and second SSID and encryption method is WPA-PSK, working well and no problem.
- third SSID is working well first day, but next day, can be search SSID, but not getting a IP and connection failed.
(if appear this enter administrator mode, not changed any other information, just click to save settings, then i use third SSID in oneday)
- third SSID encryption method is WEP
- Channels are used to channel 6
- in this case, how can i fixed it?
is this problem, SSID's problems? or channel's proble?
why occur to multi SSID problem?
pls help meThe goal is to create one WLAN (wifi) with wpa2 and mac filtering that connect direcly to the physical network with server access, and the other WLAN (public) with only wpa2 protection and in isolated VLAN, for the guest.
Suppose to have two SSID wifi and public (the second in the router web ui), both WPA2 Personal w/o MAC Filtering and w/o VLAN.
I use only PC.
With my laptop (windows 7) and two other laptop (win XP, win 7), I can see both SSID in wireless list, can connect to the first SSID.
When I try to connect to the second SSID, the connection fail
In the attachment you can see the actual router configuration.
In the page Status -> Wireless LAN, ONLY one SSID is displayed (but is this web ui bug?).
Thanks in advance -
WRVS4400N - Multi SSID problem
Hi,
I recently purchased this router (WRVS4400N), excelent product!
I've update the firmware to the lastest version available (WRVS4400Nv2-fw-2.0.0.8-K9).
Now I'm trying to enable the Multiple BSSID to create a second SSID.
I've tryed all possible combination, b/g/n, security settings, VLAN, SSID Isolation, I've tryed with WPA/WPA2, WEP, w/o security.
All wireless client can connect to the first SSID, w/o any problem, but can't connect to the second SSID.
Is my configuration error? Is a known firmware issues?
Anyone know how to configure a second WLAN?
Best Regards

Weird SSID problem with my BEFW11S4.
I've been using my router for a good two or three years already and it's not had any problems at all until today. While I was at work, something happened to my network and all the laptops on my home network disconnected and couldn't rediscover it anymore. I tried to reconnect but found that the SSID wasn't the same as in my setup page.
One letter in the SSID was different from my original SSID, specifically the third letter. For example, my network was named 'hoob' but the laptops recognized it as 'honb' so I changed it to 'rhymenoceros' but the computers again recognized it as 'rhxmenoceros.' I tried changing the names again, tried changing the channels it broadcast on, and I reset the router and restored factoring settings.
Nothing else I've tried has worked. The computer that's directly connected the router works fine, but the wireless are not connecting at all. Could the router be on the verge of dying? Is there somethin going on with the antennas and something in it's gone bad? I'm not sure what else it could be, so short of running out and buying a new router, I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else has had this problem before or has heard of it. I searched the net for anything resembling my problem but haven't had any luck..so thanks for any help all.Reset the router by holding the reset button .... disable all firewall & antivirus software ....
Again try to reconfigure the router ....
See if it works ... -
Hi,
I recently got a 5508 controller. I use 1 SSID for the employees on the main site (using certificate authentication). On the Remote sites I want to use the same SSID with different DHCP Servers (AP are configuring with HREAP mode). So I tried to configure different WLAN ID using the same SSID (I override DHCP Server IP Address). When I try to activate SSID, I got the following error : "WLAN with duplicate SSID's and L2 security policy found". I tryed to use "AP Group" and put the different WLAN ID in different AP Group but it dosen't work.
Anyone as an idea?
Thanks in advance
Regards,
EricHi,
This is the expected behaviour!! and there is no way to overcome issue as the error thats popping up is self explanatory!! if you are using Internal WEB AUTH page then the HREAP local switching supports the internal WEB AUTH, and another thing is.. a single WLAN will do the Job!! You just need to configure Local switching on the WLAN so that, the clients in the central site use ( AP in local mode will use central side DHCP) and the AP in the HREAP will use the mapped VLAN to grab the IP!!
here is the link to do the same!!

Multi SSID problem, not work
hi
I bought a Cisco WRVS4400n to use with different vlan and ssid, I use a Cisco Catalyst behind my new WRV, on sigle ssid mode and without Vlans configured, worked perfectly, but, on trunking mode with multi ssid on different vlans ( to use public and private wifi on differents vlans), doesnt work
this is my configuration
Vlan 3, private, with wpa2
Vlan 6, public, with nocat server.
in port 1 of WRV, trunknig mode, vlan3 tagged, vlan6 tagged
in port 8 of Catalyst, trunking mode, vlan3 tagged, vlan6 tagged
I don't need configure DHCP server, I have on both lans.
wifi clients don't cross trough the router to LANS, my dhcp server don´t give IP to client, becouse can't connect. neither when I force a valid IP address.
thanksPost a link to the page, please.

Access Connections - Many APs with same SSID (Again)
I have a W520 running Access Connections 6.11 (release December 2013) on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Access Connections is still broken in regards to dealing with multiple Access Ponts having the same SSID. It keeps hoping from one access point to another regardless of signal strength of the AP.
The most desirable strategy would be if Access Connections would find and lock on to the best signal strength AP and stay there. However, it doesn't do that. It acts almost randomly. It also keep shifting around. The rate is almost random as well. Sometimes it will stay locked on to an AP for up to 10 minutes, at other times it shifts in as little as 30 seconds.
Other laptops, from other manufacturers like HP, Toshiba, and Apple do NOT exhibit this behavior on our campus. Other Lenovo machines running Access Connections DO exhibit this behavior. The problem is NOT machine specific (ie, not hardware or some weird idiosyncracy of the particular W520 i'm posting about). The problem is Lenovo's Access Connections. The problem is also not a configuration issue with the campus. I have a network at home running Airport Extremes all having the same SSID's and the W520 in question does exactly the same behavior there. Totally different hardware at home vs campus and same behavior. I cannot change the names of the AP as a fix. This is not a capability in the configuration of the AP's. Even if it were, I shouldn't have to do it. Campuses are often configured in this way. Campuses that are large commercial users who I believe are the most lucrative Lenovo customers.
This problem has been going on for literally years with different versions of Access Connections. Here are two threads in the Lenovo Community I found in under 30 seconds. Neither was solved correctly. In other words, Lenovo never fixed the software, and people had to either give up or resort to kludge solutions in their campus configurations.
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Is-it-possible-to-default-to-a-specific-Access...
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Access-Connections-Many-APs-with-same-SSID/m-p...
Lenovo has actually made the problem progressively worse over time instead of fixing it. They have done this by removing the abilty to prioritize AP's by MAC address. Initially, Lenovo allowed you to configure 5 MAC addresses in order. Then, Lenovo removed that capability making it possible to only give a single MAC address as preferred. Finally, in recent iterations, Lenovo removed that capability alltogether. The box is still there in the UI, but it's greyed out. It is very frustrating to have this kind of thing happen. The prioritize capability is fundamentally a kludge, but at least it's something to give a bit of a workaround. Now we don't even have that.
Can a lenovo engineer please look at this issue and give me a timeline for resolution?
BTW, It is still not possible to configure Access Connections with a blank SSID either. I bring this up, because if you're going to fix the Access Connections code for multiple SSID's, you should be aware of the blank SSID problem as well. I imagine they are both in the same part of the Access Connections codebase, at least from a logical standpoint.
Thank you.I found that there is a setting in the Intel driver (15.9.1.2, released 8/22/2013) for the wireless card (Centrino Advanced-N 6205). The setting adjusts the "roaming aggressiveness". I can only guess this means how often the driver goes out and tries to find a "better" signal and/or bandwidth. The card supports a/b/g so the calculus is complex as to what constitutes "better", and I have no idea how sophisticated the algorithm the driver uses is.
That said, if I set the "aggressiveness" to the most aggressive setting, things work somewhat better. They are still not as a good as other wifi managers bundled with competing products (specifically HP, Toshiba, and Apple so far), but it helps. It does appear that more of the time now, the AP having the best signal appears to be the AP the laptop is attached to.
Lenovo, please consider that forcing your customers to dig around in arcane driver settings and relying on the whims of driver writers and hardware companies to do things correctly and well, is a recipe for failure. Your customers are just going to get annoyed and say to their colleagues, "My old Toshiba seemed to do a better job of WiFi connections. I think next time, I'm going to have IT get me one of those again." And, of course, that colleague will look a lot harder at buying the Toshiba instead of the Lenovo, as well. Wifi connectivity is a very big deal for people who have to move around - and lets not forget, this is a laptop we're talking about, which is explicitly designed to, well, be moved around.
I apologize for being so pedantic, but it often takes such measures to get managers in these companies who control programmer time, to take these issues seriously and allocate the programmer resources to fix these problems.
The problem I am having is still not considered "fixed." I would very much like to hear any other solutions that work better. I would love to hear from Lenovo on the matter. Still waiting.
Thanks. -
WRT610N problems after firmware upgrade to 1.00.03.15
I've been using my WRT610N (hardware version 1) for years running firmware version 1.00.00.18.
I always used the 5Ghz SSID from laptops, iPad and iPhone and never bothered about the 2.4Ghz SSID.
Due to more frequent "cannot connect to <5Ghz SSID>" problems recently I decided to upgrade to the latest firmware version (1.00.03.15). Immediately since this firmware upgrade, the 5Ghz SSID is invisible to all devices except (strangely) my iPad. All other devices see only the 2.4 Ghz SSID.
I've tried switching channels etc. but to no avail.
Clearly, the firmware upgrade is the only thing here that changed but I'm at a loss to get the 5Ghz SSID back into action.
Anyone has an idea what's wrong here? The only remedy I can think of is to revert back to the old firmware version but somehow that feels wrong.
Thanks in advance,

Try setting 5GHz network as "Wireless-N only" instead of MIXED. That should help resolve this issue. -
PS Vita Connection Issues on EA6500
I have a similar issue as a post I read entitled "ssid not visible" For the past six months I've had my PS Vita randomly connect and disconnect from the network. What happens is when I check the network it sees a strong locked signal but has no ssid when I try to connect to it I get an error saying ssid problems. Now this only happens with my Vita I have 2 PS3's an Xbox 360 Ipone Ipad Ipods Apple TV Roku etc. None of the other devices have this problem so one would assume its the Vita but the Vita only has this problem on this router other places it works flawlessly. You might ask why haven't you looked into this sooner well the Vita is a portable device im not using it at home to often no big deal also I did contact Sony because all the other devices work but there say because the vita can see ssid's of other netwoks right from in my home its not the Vita well I just got the PS4 yesterday and wouldn't you know it the exact same issue. Who's got to fix this Sony or Linksys?
Hi, william.bors. Have your tried manually adding or creating the wirless profile on your device?

the qualituy is getting better, not satisfactory for the customer though...
I have upgraded the firware as advised to 1.4.3 - I forgot to mention I have 7925g wifi phonee
I set the 802.1x + cckm with eap-fast and WPA2 and definately the quality of the calls got a huge improvement but still not enough. What can be the reason for the confinuing problems during roaming?
Guys, is it possible to set the CCKM without ACS (or WDS - i think that was the second option)

I have a Problem with Romming Between SSIDs withing the same WLC but with deferent VLAN .
HI All,
I have a Problem with Romming Between SSIDs withing the same WLC but with deferent VLAN . the WLC are providing the HQ and one of the Branches the Wireless services .
Am using all the available 9 SSIDs at the HQ , and am using only 4 of it at the Brnche.
The problem that i have are happening only at the Branch office as i cant room between the SSIDs within Diferent VLANs but i can do it with the one that pointing to the same VLAN. Once the client ( Laptop/Phone ) connected to one of the SSIDs. it imposiible to have him connected to the other ones with Different VLAN. meanwhile, It says its connected to the other SSID but its not getting IP from that pool.
here is the Show Run-Config from my WLC .. and the Problem happening between the SSID AMOBILE and ASTAFF. i have the Debug while am switching between the SSIDs if needed .

In this mode, the clients are still remembers on the WLC until the session timer/idle timer expires. So switching between SSID's in h-reap will not be the same when switching when the AP's are in local mode.
Take a look at the client when connected in FlexConnect in the WLC GUI monitor tab. Thus will show you what ssid and vlan the client is on. Now switch to a different ssid and compare this. It's probably the same because the client has not timed out. Now go back to the other ssid and look again. Now on the WLC, remove or delete the client and then switch to the other ssid at the same time. Or switch SSID's and then remove the client. The client will join the new ssid and in the monitor tab, you should see the info.
There is no need to have clients have multiple SSID's unless your testing. Devices should only have one ssid profile configured to eliminate any connectivity issues from the device wanting to switch SSID's.

Problem with wpa and hidden ssid
hi,
I have a powerbook g4 (1,67ghz). i am having trouble connecting to a netgear router mr814 v3 if i use wpa and hidden ssid, i get a message, that the router would not support wpa!
there is no problem with wep and hidden ssid or wpa with no hidden ssid.
is also have no problems with wpa and hidden ssid with an ibook.
the problems occur only with the powerbook with os x 10.3.9 as well as 10.4.2. even after the recent airport update, no change.
thanks for the help,
benI would use WPA and broadcast your SSID.
It use to be useful, but closing your Airport or wireless network (sometimes referred to as not broadcasting your SSID) is really no longer a real option when it comes to wireless security.
Unfortunately "Closed" networks, MAC access control lists, and reduction in transmission power are all more "feel good" security rather than real security. All these various approaches are dated and mistakenly lead to overconfidence.
WPA is your friend if you value wireless security.
My recommendation is not to worry about broadcasting your SSID but use WPA. This will be more secure than a closed WEP encrypted network. Closing your network makes it very difficult for neighbouring networks to see which channels are free thus causing potential interference problems.
Another thing to consider is that a closed network is still broadcasting and therefore is detectable (regardless of whether it is broadcasting a SSID). If someone was determined to hack into your network, then not broadcasting your SSID and MAC address access control is not going to stop them.
WPA is virtually uncrackable (only really vunerable to a dictionary attack if a real word is used as a password) and therefore will stop the casual user and the determined hacker. -
HP ENVY 4500 creates its own SSID on my WiFi network causing problems and confusion
I am finding this problem hard to articulate clearly and I can’t find any information on the internet about why my new HP Envy 4500 printer has set itself up with its own SSID on my WiFi network, but here goes :
I bought an HP Envy 4500 all in one printer for my daughter’s room in university, which has a WiFi network with WPA security. First I tried to add this printer to the room WiFi using the printer menu, but it gave an error stating that the WPA passkey format was incorrect, when in fact it was the correct password. So instead I had to install the printer using the installation options accessed from the HP website using her laptop.
This has worked, but it has also set the printer up with its own independent SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’. This separate SSID for the printer is causing some problems and does not seem to have any useful purpose. For example sometimes documents randomly will not print from the laptop, but if you then disconnect the laptop from the room SSID and reconnect it to the printer SSID, the documents will then print, but then you have to reconnect to the room's SSID when done. This is confusing and of course completely unwanted behaviour.
Does anyone know why this new SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’ has been set up for the printer please? Can I get rid of it so that printer is simply a device connected on the WiFi network in the room please?
I hope this makes sense as this a very frustrating issue for something that should be completely straightforward.
Thanks.
This question was solved.

WRT54G Problem- SSID not showing in list & router not sending correct IP address
Everthing was humming along. Comcast Internet = fine. WRT54G router, several XP Pro/SP 3 computers, 1 Powerbook + wireless printers. etc = fine. PCs find network SSID and auto-connect without fail.
Then, Comcast Internet down. Reboot everything. Network back up. Computers then get wrong IP Address or do not see SSID. (No config changes on computers.)
So I:
1. Reinstall WRT54G firmware (v8) - no change.
2. Install new fresh WRT54G - using CD to install - no change
3. Update firmware in router used in #2 - no change
4. Complete reset cycle and reinstall -no change.
5. Repeat same reset with original router -no change
6. Using static IP address/default gate way/DNS address - PC finds and connects to SSID but does not access Internet.
Result - no computers find SSID. (SSID is hidden.) Don't find it when it's not hidden either.
Ethernet cabled PC works just fine. Gets correct IP Address & Internet access is fine.
Cable modem = Motorola Surf Board. No physical locations of any omponent has changed.
Is it possible that both WRT54G's are not working?
Is it somehow a Comcast problem?
Should I try some other router settings?
Many thanks! Thanks. These are great instructions and quite useful for setup. Unfortunately, my problems seemed much more complex.
In the end, I redidi all the networking from scratch from the router through all the connected devices. Finally got things back up. I don't know how, but the Comcast failure seemed to corrupt lots of the settings even if they all looked OK.
