SSL Acceleration between iPlanet and WLS

I was wondering if anybody has successfully deployed a SSL accelerator card for SSL acceleration between iPlanet and WLS?

This is a feature in the latest release, WebLogic Server 6.1.0
          <http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs61/////adminguide/nsapi.html#101168>. It is
          not available for WebLogic Server 5.1.0.
          Regards,

    Hi guys, I'm having a problem, we I try to access the application through the iPlanet. The iPlanet crash and it restarts again.
    I got this message on the errors log of the iPlanet

    I can add the the iplanet we are using is the 6.1sp5 and the weblogic is the version 9. everything is working on sun 9.
    I'm going to appreciate any help.
    Thanks

    Did you get SSL authentication on iPlanet AND forwarding this to WLS
    working?
    We can do certificate based authentication on iPlanet and the plugin
    forwards this to WLS (6.0sp1). WLS does not do anything with it.
    Thanks,
    Ronald

    The trusted CA file holds the root CA certificates that will be trusted by
    the proxy plugin. So if your
    App server has CertA from Verisign, and CertA was issued by a Verisign CA
    certificate, then you
    want to have the Verisign CA certificate in the trusted CA file for the
    proxy plugin.
    Also, look in /tmp/wlproxy.log, errors should be getting logged in there
    that will help determine the
    problem.

    I'm using WebLogic 6.0 and iPlanet 4.1 for my application.
    I've got certificate from Versign for WebLogic and tested it well for
    standalone
    App Server.
    However, when I use iPlanet for proxy, the page doesn't display at all.
    Here is
    my config statement for iPlanet
    <Object name="weblogic" ppath="*/*">Service fn=wl-proxy
    WebLogicHost=localhost
    WebLogicPort=7002 SecureProxy=ON
    TrustedCAFile="c:/bea/wlserver6.0sp1/config/mydomain/getcacert.cer"</Object>
    Am I get it right? And I wonder what should it be put in the field
    "TrustedCAFile"
    By the way, I've got the certificate for the iPlanet Web Server too.
    It works fine for iPlanet with SSL pointing to the WebLogic port 7001.
    However it can't work at all when I pointing to the port 7002..
    Thanks for any ppl who can help me..

  • SSL between NSAPI and WLS with custom certificate and RequireSSLHostMatch=true fails

    I am trying to use SSL for communication between NSAPI and WebLogic
    server (server authentication at the NSAPI).
    Therefore, a custom server certificate is installed on WLS, containing this
    server's hostname. The NSAPI is configured (RequireSSLHostMatch=true) to
    check the hostname contained in the certificate against the WebLogicHost
    parameter in the "obj.conf" file. The corresponding TrustedCAFile is installed
    for NSAPI.
    The SSL setup seems to work ok, but when matching the hostname, it seems like
    NSAPI is trying to do a string-match against the numeric IP of the WebLogicHost,
    not on the hostname as configured in the WebLogicHost parameter.
    The relevant entry in the "obj.conf" file:
    <Object name="weblogic" ppath="*">
    Service fn=wl-proxy WebLogicHost=btsun2a.muc \
    WebLogicPort=7162 \
    Debug=ALL \
    SecureProxy=ON \
    TrustedCAFile=/home/qx13604/wls61/config/testdomain/TC_RootServer_PEM_Class0.pem
    RequireSSLHostMatch=true
    </Object>
    I am using WLS6.1 with NSAPI (both Solaris). The content of "wlproxy.log" is as
    follows.
    Any ideas?
    Content of "wlproxy.log":

    I tried some other case and configured a certificate containing
    the numeric IP as hostname. The authentication works fine then,
    but it wouldn't be nice to hard-code the IP in the certificate
    (btw. the WebLogicHost parameter is still given as DNS name, not
    as IP address).
    Has anyone got a solution for this?

    I am trying to use SSL for communication between NSAPI and WebLogic
    server (server authentication at the NSAPI).
    Therefore, a custom server certificate is installed on WLS, containing
    this
    server's hostname. The NSAPI is configured (RequireSSLHostMatch=true)
    to
    check the hostname contained in the certificate against the WebLogicHost
    parameter in the "obj.conf" file. The corresponding TrustedCAFile is
    installed
    for NSAPI.
    The SSL setup seems to work ok, but when matching the hostname, it seems
    like
    NSAPI is trying to do a string-match against the numeric IP of the WebLogicHost,
    not on the hostname as configured in the WebLogicHost parameter.
    The relevant entry in the "obj.conf" file:
    <Object name="weblogic" ppath="*">
    Service fn=wl-proxy WebLogicHost=btsun2a.muc \
    WebLogicPort=7162 \
    Debug=ALL \
    SecureProxy=ON \
    TrustedCAFile=/home/qx13604/wls61/config/testdomain/TC_RootServer_PEM_Class0.pem
    RequireSSLHostMatch=true
    </Object>
    I am using WLS6.1 with NSAPI (both Solaris). The content of "wlproxy.log"
    is as
    follows.
    Any ideas?

  • Can I pilot SSL acceleration single subnet and exclude SSL acceleration on rest of network.

    I have a large WAAS deployment and would like test SSL acceleration on a single regional IP subnet pointing to the main Data Centre all in the same device group. The SSL feature seems to be either on/off per host/IP Address. I would like to do the rollout SSL acceleration in a phased manner if possible.

    Hi,
    Cisco WAAS has an option to create self-signed certificates and private keys/ Generate certificate signing request (Our own CA) or this can imported from existing certificate and key if we have them.
    When a connection is requested, the WAN optimization device in the data center splits the original SSL connection from the client to the SSL server into two SSL connections. To the client the connection appears as the SSL server, and to the SSL server it appears as the SSL client. To act as the SSL server, the data center WAN optimization device needs an authentication certificate for each SSL service it is optimizing. When the WAN optimization device intercepts a connection request from a client, it uses the SSL server IP address/domain name to associate the certificate with the client.
    You can refer below link for configuring the SSL and moreover you can view the white paper for example
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v501/configuration/guide/policy.html#wp1191888

  • How to recover/update GUID_EXTERNAL between ODI and WLS

  • How to specify a cipher suit used between plugin and weblogic server?

    I install Weblogic8.1 SP3 which supports for strong cipher suits, and config an apache 2.50 server as an front end.
    I config appache to use 2 way SSL with browser and wls one way SSL with apache plugin. Then config apache to forward client certs to WLS. now the problem is, I can see that the SSL connection between browser and apache uses a strong cipher suit('SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5'), but the ssl connection bwtween apache plugin and WLS uses a weak cipher suit('SSL_RSA_EXPORT_WITH_RC4_40_MD5'), with the SnoopServlet, although I use the mod_wl128_20.so module. How can I increase the cipher strength of SSL between WLS and it's apache plugin?

    Hello Gunaseelan,
    This is not possible because WLS 6.1 needs a config.xml file, exactly this
    name, to start.
    What you can do is to define a recovery domain, called myrecovery_domain for
    instance, and put the config_recovery.xml, renamed "config.xml".
    Hope this helps,

  • WAAS statistics for SSL accelerated services

      Hi all,
    the customer has configured two SSL accelerated services on the core WAVEs. He would like to monitor both these services separatelly. He uses SSL accelerated report, but there is summary statistics from both services. Is possible to create an application per SSL service for the collection statistics? For example: when I will have two SSL accelerated services ssl1 and ssl2, is possible to monitor statistics for ssl1 and monitor statistics for ssl2?
    Thank you
    Roman

    I dont think you can associate both certificates to the same wild card domain & port. You can use one at a time.

  • SSL Accelerators and WLS???

    The web applications that I'm being asked to build will involve heavy
    use of SSL encryption thoughout. In fact, most of the user interactions
    will be handled over an SSL connection. I know what heavy SSL traffic
    can do to CPU utilization...
    One of the architectural components that we are considering is the use
    of hardware SSL accelerators. We're considering this as a way to make
    the user interaction snappier and to support more concurrent users on a
    single web/app server.
    The one that we are considering is nFast from http://www.ncipher.com/.
    It supports Netscape Enterprise on Solaris, which is our probable
    development/deployment environment. This would, of course, preclude us
    from using WLS as the web server.
    Question #1: In heavily SSL-ified web applications, does BEA reccomend
    the use of an external web server, or will WLS-as-http-server handle the
    job just as well as NES? What experiences have people had using
    WLS-as-http-server in SLL-intensive environments?
    Question #2: Are there any SSL accelerator products out there that
    support the WLS HTTP server? I doubt there are, but it couldn't hurt to
    ask.
    Question #3: By using an external web server (NES on Solaris, for
    example) is there a noticable decrease in servlet performance due to the
    fact that your servlets are now running in a separate process?
    Thanks for your feedback,
    jason

    We are using this box in production. Its very simple, it significantly
    increases load times, and it simplifies the backend architecture since you
    wont have to worry about https, every request is turned into an http
    request. Its around 13K, but I would think the benefits are worth the money
    for anything but lightly loaded sites.

    We are aware that customers want this feature, don't worry. The
    problem is that the integration between Java SSL products and hardware
    from vendors like Rainbow and NCipher is immature at the moment, so
    it's a lot of work for us to get this done.
    It is pretty high on our list, though, so you will see something just
    as soon as we've built and tested it.

  • SSL Accelerated Service and device groups

    I have a need to set up SSL accelerated services on a data center WAE and one edge WAE. In reading through the Cisco Wide Area Application Services SSL Application Optimiser Deployment Guide (2010), it states that best practice is to create an SSL device group and configure the SSL service and generate the keys through that group.
    Simple question:  Should only the data center WAE be placed in that group, or should also the edge WAE be in the group?  The devices are running 4.3.3.

    Only the data center wae's need to be placed in the SSL device group.

  • SSL between XI and a business partner

    Has anyone gotten SSL between XI and an external business partner up and running? I would like to have a short discussion with someone who has been successful. I am trying to send messages out from XI that require XI to be active. Please don't direct me to the documentation because we have read it and  it has not been very helpful.
    regards,
    Chris

    Hello Richard,
    I can't see we have been successful but we are close. Here are the steps:
    1. HTTPS service needs to be active (Tx: SMICM)
    2. You need to load the SSL certificate key in your XI system (Tx: STRUST)
    3. You will need to create an RFC (type G)pointing to your target server. Then select the SSL (acitve) and the private key you want to use (you will need one RFC destination by server key).
    4. Use your RFC destination in your HTTP Adapter:
    on the HTTP adapter don't select URL address but select RFC destination.
    I hope this will help.
    PLease don't heistate to ask if you need more detail.

  • Urgent!! SRA gateway and SSL accelerator??

    I access url in portal destop, but it can not work.
    My gateway is working behind ssl accelerator, and gateway url is http://gateway.com, port is 880, external virtual host url is https://home.com. The profile platform.conf.default is like this,
    gateway.customurl=true
    gateway.httpurl=https://home.com:443
    gateway.virtualhost=gateway.com home.com
    but in desktop url http://www.sun.com is written to https://home.com/http://sun.com, but it canot be accessed.
    If I browse it like https://home.com/http://sun.com/, it work well.
    Please help me config it.
    Many Thanks
    Peter

    Thank you Jerry.
    We use the Radware's accelerator board that is one factory in china.
    The follows are the gateway profile list:
    gateway.cdm.cacheSleepTime=60000
    gateway.protocol=http
    gateway.jdk.dir=/usr/jdk/entsys-j2se
    gateway.userProfile.cacheCleanupTime=300000

    gateway.external.ip=192.18.22.45
    gateway.logdelimiter=&&
    gateway.httpurl=https://home.com:443
    gateway.data.dir=/var/opt/SUNWps

    gateway.bindipaddress=192.18.20.33

    gateway.host=gateway.com
    gateway.logging.password=RcyB48rxF7cxHv8As45shg\=\= Z0Wk2ebVID0XtY+eg30gsg\=\=
    gateway.sockretries=3
    gateway.enable.customurl=true
    gateway.userProfile.cacheSleepTime=60000
    gateway.enable.accelerator=true
    gateway.cdm.cacheCleanupTime=300000
    gateway.favicon=
    gateway.notification.url=notification
    gateway.httpsurl=
    portal.server.port=80
    gateway.virtualhost=portal.com 192.18.20.33 home.com
    gateway.allow.client.caching=true
    gateway.retries=6
    gateway.dsame.agent=http\://portal.com\:80/portal/RemoteConfigServlet
    portal.server.host=portal.com
    gateway.user=noaccess
    gateway.trust_all_server_certs=true
    gateway.debug.dir=/var/opt/SUNWps/debug
    portal.server.protocol=http
    gateway.ignoreServerList=true
    At first, the user has full access.
    We can login the portal server using https://home.com, and the urls also are written correctly, but when click the link like https://home.com/http://www.sun.com, there is not '/' at the end of this url, it can not work formally. But if I append '/' to the end of this url, and browse it in url address, it works well.
    Could you give me some advice?
    Many Thanks
    Peter
