SSL and Quicktime Player: QT crashes if it opens a web video via https

Hello,
it was running some test-videos, I think, some weeks ago very well - as I can remember. After some days quicktime client starts crashing when it opens a .mp4 file from a https: connection. Thers a message concerning the certificate from quicktime then it crashes.
It crashes also on another computer. Quicktime plays the same file via a http connection (that is not secured via ssl) very well.
Safari is playing the https(ssl)-file with quicktime very well.
If Safari runs the ssl video and finally completed do load the full video I can copy the https:-URL to Quicktime player - and it plays the video very well.
Via quicktime streaming server the .mp4 runs too - but its not secured - I think
What can I do? Thank you for any suggestion.
Best regards.

Dear Paul,
thank you for your concerns - but I don´t want to give the address to the public.
I hope for your understanding.
Best regards

  • How do I update my iTunes because I accedently only updated iTunes and not iCloud thing and quicktime player. How do I do it?

The window of iTunes updater popped up and I accedently only downloaded the iTunes and not iCloud thing and Quicktime player. Any ideas how I can download them now?

Go "Start > All programs > Apple Software Update". When Apple Software Update launches, does it offer you the QuickTime and iCloud updates?

  • Where do I find Windows Media and Quicktime player I need them for online classes

For Angel learning I need windows Media and QuickTime player for the site to work properly. I had both add-ons in my earlier version of Firefox but they didn't carry over into Firefox 4 I'm disappointed in this version the look sucks and the pop-up blocker menu doesn't work.

    Go to the following page:
That's the download page for WMP. Use WMP 10.

  • Hey! My flash player keeps crashing whenever I open any kind of website with any flash contend.

Hey! My flash player keeps crashing whenever I open any kind of website with any flash contend. Videos won't load, moving advertisements, all that stuff. Its also not just Firefox, videos don't work in IE or Chrome. I'm completely updated on all the plugins as well. Thanks for any help you may have!

IE uses a different version of Flash (ActiveX version) than Firefox and Chrome use (the Plugin version). You might want to try the Adobe Flash forums for help with those Flash problems. <br />

  • Firefox opens ok, but crashes when I open a web page

I upgraded Shockwave and Flash today, and since then, Firefox will crash when I open a web page. Firefox itself opens fine, but opening Gmail or Facebook causes it to crash with a windows error saying it has crashed.
    Im using...
    Firefox 4.0.1 on Windows 7
    Flash player V10 plugin
    Shockwave V11.6

This is very consistent, happens within minutes? In that case, I suggest this test:
To see whether one of your extensions is the culprit, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?

  • .avi files crash finder and quicktime player after Flip4Mac component mess

The .avi files that are downloaded directly from my camera cause the finder to crash as it tries to preview, they will cause Quicktime Player to quit unexpectedly, and Final Cut Pro will see them as corrupt. The files still open in VLC so I know they aren't corrupt.
I think this may have happened because the stupid 'Flip4Mac' program suggested that I remove some conflicting components. I accidentally lost them and I'm not sure which ones they were.
I tried re-installing Quicktime 7.20, but that didn't seem to do it. Does anybody know which components I should be looking to re-install? Maybe the ones that commonly go with FCP and Quicktime? Or does anyone know which components Flip4Mac will identify as conflicting?

    http://perian.org for your AVI files.
Remove any browser plug-in that has an x in it's name as Perian replaces them (with better compatibility).
I don't use Flip4Mac but what I've read about it suggests it is used by WMP formats (not AVI).
AVI was invented by Microsoft and they discontinued the container nearly ten years ago.

  • HT3775 mpeg-2 file using OS 10.8.2 and Quicktime Player 10.2

I'm trying to open an mpeg-2 file with Quicktime Player 10.2 and OS 10.8.2. Apple says the playback component for earlier versions of Quicktime is already built in to this version, but I'm getting video only--no audio. My Sony blue ray player has no trouble playing the same file via a flash drive and the USB port. Is there a component or an update that I need?

  • DVCPRO HD and QuickTime Player 7.6.6 (1709) Pro

    1. A video production company gave us 500 GB of .mov files with the DVCPRO HD codec.
    2. QuickTime Player 7.6.6 (1709) Pro does not read the files. It gives this error message:
"The document "BEFORE-A1" could not be opened. A required codec isn't available."
I read the 2010 thread on "Cannot play a .mov file on quicktime" and I'm wondering if one of these plugins will work from this web address:
    DivX
    Streambox
    Autodesk
    Flip4Mac
    Glue Tools
    MXF4Mac
    Please help. Thanks

Don't know about those that you have listed. The codec DVCPro is part of the package installed when you purchase Final Cut Pro. But it looks like there's aftermarket providers of these codecs one of them being this company:
    http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/store/MacOSXIndividualStore.asp
You might also ask if the video production company could send you a zip file of the codec from one of their Final Cut workstations. We had similar situation where I work only the production company was usinga NewTek video codec (SQ2). We had to beg them for the installer which they put up on a website temporarily and we downloaded it. We had no other way to view and transcode without that original codec.

  • ITunes and QuickTime Player give me a QTCF.dll error when trying to launch

When i try to open iTunes on my laptop it gives me an error saying:
iTunes.exe - entry point not found
    The procedure entry point
QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataForPlane could not be located in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll
i also get a error for quick time player displaying the same message for Quick Time.exe
i have uninstalled both programs and reinstalling them several times. i have also check to see if they work on other accounts on my laptop. they do not work.
    Message was edited by: Nemesis2010

The procedure entry point QTCF_CFUniCharGetUnicodePropertyDataForPlane could not be located in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll
The most common cause of that one is a misplaced older version of the QTCF.dll lurking about in your system. On an x64 system, the best place to start looking is in the C:\Windows\sysWOW64\ directory.
Do you see a QTCF.dll lurking in there? If so, try dragging it out onto the desktop. Can you launch iTunes and QuickTime now?

  • ITunes and QuickTime Player

I found a cool .WAV I want to use, but I cannot get it to work. Its icon is the music/iTunes one, but I need it to be QuickTime. I'm a newbie at this sound stuff...

Drag the file into iTunes and convert or export it as needed, or drag it onto the QuickTime Player icon in the Dock and play it from there.

  • New to MAC and Quicktime player won't work

Let me begin with the fact I just converted to a Mac using the Snow Leapord 10.6.6. So I am still learning the ropes. When I click on my Quicktime player icon on my docking station nothing happens and the application never opens. Shouldn't it open? I am used to the PC when you click on the Q icon the player would load. If it is suppose to open the player how do I fix that, since the Quicktime 10 player came standard on my macbook pro? Thanks so much!
    AKA: mac virgin

Hello - I have the same problem as Matt since upgrading to Snow Leopard.
My QT icon shows in the dock and the QT options are at the top of the page, but
none of my videos work, and QT was already in place when I purchased my iMac.
I've tried right-click and/or holding on the QT icon, but it doesn't give me the
option to "remove from dock". I can't remove the icon from the dock at all.
Any help would be gratefully received.

  • I like to play games on facebook and for some reason I keep getting an error message saying that the shockwave player and flash player has crashed I use firefox could someone please give me step by step instructions to fix this issue?

I have Windows 8.1, my adobe player is the most updated version also.... hope this helps

Yeah, Firefox and Flash Player isn't a super stable combination on Windows 8.1 at the moment.  We're collaborating closely with Mozilla to improve that, but that effort is going to happen over several months.
In the meantime, you might want to take a look at the other options.  Microsoft invested a lot of time and effort into making the Flash experience on Win8.1 really good in IE, as did Google with Chrome.

  • I received .mov via email and iMessage and quicktime tells me it can't open and to click tell me more for help

I tried to open .mov from an email and imessage and quicktime says it cant open and to click tell me more but then it doesnt give any information. Ive never had a problem opening videos made from an iphone and emailed before. These arent long clips.

i downloaded Quicktime 7 on my imac but it still wont open?
MOV refers to the file container. (MOV is the generic Quicktime file container.) Unfortunately, there cam be many different problems here.
    1) People with different system configurations can place audio and/or video data not compatible with your system into MOV files, send them to you, and they will not play if you do not have the proper codecs installed for the QT 7 player to play them. Therefore, it is normally recommended that you determine what audio and video compression formats were used to create the original file. If the files do not open in either the QT X or QT 7 players, then you can check the file's "Get Info" window to see the the Mac OS X Finder recognizes the compressed data format(s). If it doesen't, them you can try opening the file in an alternate media player like VLC (free download) to see if that play can open, play, and/or tell you the compression formats. Lastly, if an app like VLC can't help you, you can download a generic media information app like MediaInfo (also a free download) to examine the file.
    2) Once you know the compression formats use in the file and the Mac OS X version, and QT player being used, it is usuall a simple matter to determine if the compression format is supposed to be compatible with the QT player used for your Mac OS X or IOS device. This will tetermine whether or not the file can be played natively or must be converted to a different compression format for playback
    3) In a very small percentage of cases, it may turn out that the file sent to you is either correpted or violates a security update installed on your system that prevents plaback. In the case of a corrupted file, about the only thing you can do as request the file be resent to you and hope for better results. In the case of a security problem, the file may be playable and/or convertable by a third-party application that gets around Apple's security trapping that prevents playback.
    4) In the future, if you have problems opening or playing a file, please be more specific as to the nature of the problem. Specify the specific modal message you are getting or describe whether the player quits without a message, crashes, or will not open under one user account but does open under another.
and how would you resolve this issue on your iphone but updating quicktime player?
Your original message did not indicate that you were trying to play the file on your iPhone. Since the QT 7 player better handles the playback of "legacy" compression formats—especially under Mavericks—many users are advised to install the QT 7 player to handle compression formats no longer playable by the new AVFoundation software embedded in Mavericks. In addition, the QT 7 player is supported by an older 32-bit structure embedded in the Mac OS X v10.6, 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9 operating systems which can still access third-party codecs if your system is configured for their use—another reason for keeping QT 7 installed on a computer system. Unfortunately, such options will not fix blayback problems on an IOS device where it is normally easier to convert unsupported compression formats to natively supported compression formats—primarily H.264 video with AAC audio in MOV, MP4, or M4V file containers.

  • QuickTime Pro keeps crashing when I open "Show Movie Properties"

I keep getting the "QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." crash when I try and do "Show Movie Properties" on .MOV files.
    The error signature is:
    EventType : BEX P1 : QuickTimePlayer.exe P2 : 7.65.17.80
    P3 : 4afa5828 P4 : QuickTimePlayer.dll P5 : 7.65.17.80 P6 : 4afa5820
    P7 : 0000130d P8 : c0000409 P9 : 00000000
    Any suggestions?
I'm running the latest QuickTimePro (7.6.5) on WinXP SP3

in fact it's one of the few bits of Quick Time that seems stable on my PC!
Hmmmmm ... your symptoms aren't typical for what I'm about to check on. But I think we ought to check to see if any other application has sprayed old QuickTime componentry into unorthodox places on the PC. (That's one possible cause of a BEX.)
    (1) Go Start > My Computer.
    (2) From the Tools menu, select Folder Options ...
    (3) Click the View tab.
    (4) Make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected and Hide extensions for known filetypes is unchecked.
    (5) Click OK.
Now head down into your C:\Windows\system32\ directory. What files and folders with QuickTime in the file/folder-name can you see in there?
(In a standard QuickTime installation, you should see precisely two files, QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx, and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
