SSL Certificates for installing SharePoint 2013

How many SSL certificates do we need in order to install SharePoint in a production farm?
We are planning to have OWA server farm, a workflow farm and APPS.
V

You need to plan what URL you will have which will work on https. below are few examples
1. Your OWA is recemmonded for https:
2. If you want your SharePoint site then it can also be on SSL
3. If your site on SSL then your apps URL should also be on SSL or might face some issue(assumption)
Here you can purchase a Wildcard certificate(*.domainame.com) then only 1 certificate will surfice all needs
Or
You will need to but a different SSL for each URL. Major problem will be on every app will have a different URL with GUID so you cannot buy a different certificate for each APP.

  • Correct No. of Accounts and their Privileges for Installing SharePoint 2013 Developer Machine

    Hi Dear SharePoint 2013 Experts,
I request you to kindly guide like; the Correct No. of Accounts and their Privileges for Installing SharePoint 2013 Developer Machine. Is there any step by step blog or Video on "Installing SharePoint 2013 Developer Machine".
Tried Installing ALL in one single Virtual Machine using account spDeveloper (which is a Member of "Administrators" and "Domain Admins" Group(s). Any kind of SharePoint Web-Application and/or Sites (Developer-Site, Team-Site, ....) can
be created including MySites and Intranet Sites.
    But when tried creating SharePoint App Project in Visual Studio 2013 and deploying, stuck here with 2 weird Issues like;
    1. This task requires the application to have elevated permission
    2. Error occurred in deployment step 'Install App for SharePoint': The System Account can not perform this action
If Visual Studio 2013 is run NORMALLY (WITHOUT 'As Administrator'), it throws above 1st error  - "This task requires the application to have elevated permission"
Because of the above 1st Issue, if the Visual Studio 2013 is run 'AS ADMINISTRATOR', it again throws an error (2nd error) - "Error occurred in deployment step 'Install App for SharePoint': The System Account can not perform this action"
How to over cum this "chicken and egg problem"??

    Hi,
Have you had a look at the TechNet guidance for configuring SharePoint and SQL on a single server? It's here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262243(v=office.15).aspx
There is also a good TechNet wiki article on creating a SharePoint dev environment here,
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/19178.sharepoint-2013-setting-up-a-dev-environment-one-piece.aspx and here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/15289.sharepoint-2013-creating-a-development-environment.aspx

  • Why, when I successfully connect to Server 2012 Essentials R2 via Anywhere Access does the Remote Desktop Connection use the self signed certificate for RDP instead of the SSL certificate I installed when I set up access anywhere?

    Scenario:
    Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
I purchased an SSL Cert from GoDaddy and I managed (after some challenges) to set up Anywhere access to use that new SSL Cert. I to rebooted the server and I am able to login to Anywhere Access vis https (using the SSL certificate) from PC, Mac and iOS.
    So far so good.
The problem I am having is that when I click to launch a remote desktop connection to the server RDP connection wants to use the self signed SSL certificate of the server rather than the SSL Certificate I installed into Anywhere Access. As a result, I get
a security warning like this: "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?"
The name in the certificate appears as ACME-SERVER.ACMEDOMAIN.local  instead of the SSL Certificate I installed, which is
    remote.acmedomain.com
If I lick to accept, RDP does work fine, it;s just using a self signed certificate. I want it to use the trusted certificate that I purchased and installed.
My guess is that there must be an additional step to tell Anywhere Access that when it generates the RDP session that it should use the cert? OR, is this just how it works?

    Because....
the server does not have a 'trusted' certificate assigned to it.
Only the RDP Gateway has the trusted certificate for the external name.
If you want to remove that error, you have to do one of the following:
Make sure your domain uses a public top level domaim, and get a public trusted certificate for your server.
    So, something like,
    server.domain.publicdomain.com
    Or,
Install that certificate on your remote computer so it is trusted.

  • Installing an SSL certificate for a CSS 11503

I'm having the hardest time searching for clear instructions on how to request and install an SSL certificate for a CSS 11503 Content Switch. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?
I'm also looking for instructions on how to replace an SSL certificate once it's been installed. Thanks!

    Allen,
The portion of the configuration guide related to SSL certificates and keys can be found here:
    http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/contnetw/ps792/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00801eea82.html#1422544
To replace an SSL certificate, you'll need to remove the current certificate and re-import/create the new one.

  • Cannot install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on server 2012 R2. IIS configuration error

    Hey Guys,
I'm experiencing a problem which seems to be common considering the number of posts I've found about it, but none of the provided solutions worked for me.
I'm simply trying to install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on a Windows Server Standard 2012 R2.
I've downloaded from the MS Volume Licensing website the "SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1" ISO file :  SW_DVD5_SharePoint_Server_2013w_SP1_64Bit_English_MLF_X19-36118. So
this is the slipstreamed version which is supposed to bring compatibility with 2012 R2.
As I do not have direct access to the Internet I need to perform an offline installation. I also downloaded all prerequisities. When I run prerequisiteinstaller.exe with the necessary arguments, I get the following :
    (Full log file is below)
    I've tried the following :
    - Restarted the server multiple times
    - Manually removing/adding IIS role + restart
    - Running the prerequisiteinstaller.exe from the DVD or from an extracted version
    - Manually installing the prerequisities
    - Installed .Net 3.5 as recommended here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0b597d35-b02d-4236-894d-38efc0c7c6f6/sharepoint-2013-with-sp1-install-on-windows-server-2012-r2?forum=sharepointgeneral)
None of the worked. So I'm stuck and I must completed the installation of this before the end of the week for an important project !
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you guys for the quick answer! Muche appreciated
I've tried all suggested solutions, but no luck :-(
    - tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2765260 > no help and by the way the hotfix provided is not applicable for 2012 R2.
also tried "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regii -enable -i" and got this :

  • Install SharePoint 2013 on Windows 2012 R2

What are the right steps to slipsteam SP 2013 with SP1, from what I understand this will fix the issues with Windows 2012 R2

You currently cannot install SharePoint 2013 on 2012 R2. You will need to wait for an updated ISO release from Microsoft for SharePoint 2013 with Service Pack 1, which will have an updated pre-req installer binary.
The SP1 currently out does not update that binary.

  • Error while uninstalling and then re installing sharepoint 2013 on same server(windows server 2012)

    Hi All,
I have installed SharePoint 2013 prerequisites successfully on windows server 2012. While installing SharePoint 2013, system struck on for several minutes. I have restart my system manually. Later I then installed prerequisites which showed a successful
lessage. But When I try to install SharePoint 2013. I am getting the following error:
trial editions and lincensed editions of SharePoint, Project Server, and Office Web apps products may not be installed on the same server.
I am unable to find solution for this issue. what is the solution for this?
    Thanks in Advance..
    Prem Kumar

To be honest, the quickest thing you could do (and what I would do regardless) is re-build the server (re-install Windows).

  • Install SharePoint 2013 database on SQL server 2012 SP1 cluster

    Good Day all,
We are trying to install SharePoint 2013 database on a SQL server 2012 Enterprise with SP1 cluster (configured for mixed mode) but the connection is not working (times out). We can telent the SQL cluster network name on port 1433 and we made
a UDL connection file, test the connection via windows authentication and it is working, but if we use the sql authentication it is not working.
Also we have two SharePoint 2013 servers connected via NLB.
Any idea about this issue guys?

event if 3355 means 3 things:
The SQL Server might be offline.
The SharePoint Foundation database access account might not have the necessary permissions to communicate with the SQL Server.
A firewall that runs on either the local server or on SQL Server might be blocking network communications.
Big question, how you trying to connect SQL  windows or sql authentication? is it throwing error on Config wizard or somewhere else?

  • Installing SharePoint 2013 in a Windows 2012 R2 Server I was getting the following error

when I install prerequisiteinstaller.exe in sharepoint 2013, got the below error:
Error: The tool was unable to install Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role.
    Any expert please help?

    Hi,
From your description, I know you get error when you install SharePoint 2013 in Windows Server 2012 R2.
If you have tried all method above. In your case, you have installed the Web Server(IIS), but the
Web Server (IIS) role installation may fail. You could try run commande: aspnet_regii -enable –i.
    Here are similar issues:

SSL Certificate for cn=abc.com   considering abc.com as our major domain. now we have servers in this domain like    www.abc.com,   a.abc.com , b.abc.com etc. we installed the verisign certificate and configured ACE-20 accordingly for ssl-proxy and we will use same certificate gerated for abc.com for all servers like www.abc.com , a.abc.com , b.abc.com etc. Now when we are trying to access https//www..abc.com or https://a.abc.com through mozilla , we are able to access the service but we are getting this message in certfucate status " you are connected to abc.com which is run by unknown "
And the same message when trying to access https://www.abc.com from Google Chrome.
"This is probably not the site you are looking for! You attempted to reach www.abc.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as abc.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of adgate.kfu.edu.sa. You should not proceed"
so i know as this certficate is for cn=abc.com that is why we are getting such errors/status in ssl certficate.
    Now my question is
    1. Is is possible to  remove above errors doing some ssl configuration on ACE?
    2. OR we have to go for VerisgnWildcard Secure Site Pro Certificate  for CSR generated uisng cn =abc.com to be installed on ACE  and will be used  for all servers like  www.abc.com , a.abc.com etc..
    Thanks
    Waliullah

If you want to use the same VIP and port number for multiple FQDNs, then you will need to get a wildcard certificate.  Currently, if you enter www.abc.com in your browser, that is what the browser expects to see in the certificate.  And right now it won't beause your certificate is for abc.com.  You need a wildcard cert that will be for something like *.abc.com.
    Hope this helps,
    Sean

  • Is it possible to install SharePoint 2013 and SQL 2012 on single Azure Virtual Machine

I had a Azure subscription, I need had created only one Virtual Machine, is it possible to install SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012 on that single virtual machine in azure.
I had SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012 licence from MSDN subscription,
Finally on Azure virtual machine is it possible to Install SharePoint 2013 and SQL server by downloading these software from MSDN.

    Hi,
It is supported to install sharepoint 2013 and SQL server on the same server. However, please check the size of your Azure VM and make sure it is compatible for that.
The minimum recommended size for a virtual machine is A3 when using SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Select A3 or higher when using SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Select A4 when using SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Enterprise Optimized for Transactional Workloads
images. Select A7 when using SQL Server 2012 or 2014 Enterprise Optimized for Data Warehousing Workloads images. In addition, the default size for SharePoint 2013 image is A3.
In addition, as a best practice, you can install them in different servers and then deploy SharePoint 2013 with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups in Azure:

  • Do you have to create SPN before you install Sharepoint 2013 Server?

    Hello Community
After installing WS2012 and Sharepoint 2013 Server on it, I
created SPN's for the SQL Server and domain user.
While creating the web application I ran across some information
that says if you use Kerberos Authentication you have to setup the SPN's
in AD DS before you install Sharepoint 2013 Server.
That doesn't make sense to me because it might be possible that
SPN's may be needed to be created throughout the lifetime of the
Sharepoint farm which could be forever.
So the question is, is it true that you can only use Kerberos
Authentication if you created the SPN's in AD DS first?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

You can create it after-the-fact, you just may have access issues until it is created and the user account running the pool is logged off and back on again. Right, it has nothing to do with the installation status of SharePoint.

  • Could not start IIS after installing SharePoint 2013 Sep CU?

    Hi All,
Recently I installed SharePoint 2013 Sep CU. Everything went well; I was able to install it and run the configuration wizard successfully but after that IIS was stopped and was not able to start because WWW Publishing service was stopped.
When I tried to start that service, it gives below error. Event Viewer did not show anything specific. Please guide me on this issue.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Rahul Babar

    Hi Rahul,
Please restart your machine, compare the result.
And please double click on the “World Wide Web Publishing Service”, in the top we can be able to see the “dependency” option, make sure all these dependencies are started.
In general, this issue is caused because The Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service is not installed. All of the IIS services depend on the RPC Service.
Additionally, if the TCP/IP protocol is not installed, the same symptoms result.
