SSM 10.1 Cascaded Scorecard

Hi SSM 10.1 Experts,
for people who have had the opportunity to work SSM 10.1, I want to ask you a question related to
the impact of cascading the scorecard, which is mentioned in the documentation as a new possibility.
Thanks a lot.

Ingrid,
What do you want to know about cascading?
You can cascade the contexts within SSM so that they stretch from the Corporate level to the departmental or business unit level. The relevant filters placed on dimensions will ensure that the data matches that level of the organisation.
Within SSM you can also cascade Objectives and Initiatives. When cascading Objectives you are saying that Objective A is supported by Objective B in the context of a lower level and an Objective B may support that same Objective in another context on that lower level.
Similarly you can cascaade Initiatives so that the initiative in Context A is 'copied' into the contexts at the lower levels and you can reassign responsibilities and budgets.
Does this help?
Regards
Colin

  • Cascaded Scorecards

    Hi,
Is cascaded scorecard functionality present in SSM 7.0? If yes then can anybody let me know how to create one.
Early response will by highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Anuj

    Anuj,
SSM can create cascaded strategy through Contexts. You can develop a variety of Contexts based on how you want the organization visualized. As an example, Contexts might be based on Line of Business, or Departments, or Regions, or a combination of all of those - like having a separate Context for Customer Service for Operations in Asia.
There is a functionality in SSM7.5 that allows you to quickly create a series of Contexts based on a template. You create a template of a Context which has Perspectives, Objectives, and KPIs defined. You can then create a number of Contexts off of this template, including using the dimensional hierarchy of your model. As an example if your created a "Stores" Context template using a model that has a dimension of Regions with members being individual locations, you could create similar Context for each member.
The Template functionality is not available in SSM7.0, though you are able to create the Contexts individually, as outlined above.
    Regards,
    Bob.

  • Copy BSP balance score card

    Hi,
when I copy the standard BSP balance score card I get errors in my java scripts. Has someone already tried to copy the balance score card and solve the java script errors.
I have a custome who want to use SEM in a portal, with there own portal design. so I want to make a copy of the BSP and than change the layout files.

    Hi Rishi,
it is very interesting to read a 'first' inquiry about the balanced scorecard concept. You've found a very rich topic to educate yourself in. Personally, having worked in this area for almost eight years now, I would divide this topic in two main aspects:
<b>1) Balanced Scorecard as methodology:</b> there are several great publications on this topic by the 'fathers' of this concept (Drs. Kaplan & Norton, see the response by Manish, too). The following two are key in my opinion and they've helped me a lot understand the theory:

<b>2) Balanced Scorecard as supported by SAP applications:</b> I would recommend you to have a look at a new strategy/performance management solution of SAP called SAP Strategy Management (SSM) which replaced the older Balanced Scorecard app of Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM). More info on SAP SSM can be found e.g. <a href="http://here">http://www.sap.com/solutions/performancemanagement/index.epx</a>. • SAP SSM Standard vs SAP SSM Enterprise

    Hi Everyone,
We would like to utilize SAP Strategy Management, however, we are still in the process of reviewing the functionality. Right now we are tangled between SSM Standard and SSM Enterprise. Can anyone give us an idea what's the difference between the two? And we were advised that SSM Enterprise has integration templates available; how can we get those templates? In a cost standpoint, what will be the recommended of the two?
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts on this.
PS. Were can we get a detailed documentation of the functionality of the two.
    Rally

    Rally,
SSM uses Contexts as a way of cascading strategy throughout an organization. Each Context within SSM can have different goal diagrams as well as having more specific objectives. Think of a Context as how an organization looks at their business. A Context can be regions, it can be functional areas - finance, HR, manufacturing, marketing, etc., it can be lines of business - gas delivery, electrical delivery, customer service, or combinations of those.
Since individual users are accessing SSM, the administrator could designate which Contexts they have access to. That way the Southeast Region's salespeople could see their objectives and KPIs for the Southeast, but for no other region. A sales manager could have access to several of the regions they were responsible for.
A multidimensional Model is associated with Contexts and it, as well, can be used to provide the appropriate data and metrics for users. A Model is what is constructed to define the type of data, its dimensions, measures, and KPIs.
As far as functionality and features goes, there is no difference between Edge and Enterprise. Edge has all of the same tabs available: Home, Strategy, Scorecards, Dashboards, Initiatives, and Reports. It allows Operational Reviews, Comments, Alerts, and the same individual perference settings as Enterprise. The limitations for Edge should still meet the needs of small or medium sized organizations.
EPM is the suite of applications of which SSM is a part. For the difference between 7.0 and 7.5, each of the individual products will have their own enhancements as well as additional integration with other products in the suite. The 7.5 versions of EPM products are still in the Ramp Up process, while I believe the 7.0 versions are in general availability. SSM is available as an individual application or can be purchased as part of the EPM suite.

  • Cascaded objectives

    Hi all,
We have a question regarding cascading in SSM. We are wondering is it possible to cascade two objectives from one objective.
For example, we have a goal named Expenses and two other goals that are cascaded from Expenses. We would like to use the goal Expenses in one context and other two objectives (that are both cascaded from Expensess) in a different context. But it appears that we can only select one of them. Why is that so? is this the way that cascading works? And how can this cascading be seen on BSC?
    Thank you all in advance.
    Best regards,
    Petra

    Petra,
Yes you can cascade more than one objective from a single top level Objective but you are right that only one of those Objectives can appear in a single lower level context.
When you go to the Scorecard Comparison you will see the top level Objective in one column and then your cascaded Objectives at the same level in the columns for their Contexts. I have used generic names in the image for the names of the Objectives and their cascaded objectives. In this instance each of the Objectives has different KPIs.
If you really need to have 2 cascaded Objectives in the same context then could you use 2 (or more) Index KPIs in the single cascaded Objective in the lower level contexts? Not quite the same but may do the trick.
    Hope this helps
    Regards

  • Replacimg performance Manager with SSM(SAP Strategy management)

    Hi,
Can any body tell me  how to migrate all the scorecards, KPIs  based on Performance Manager to SAP Strategy Management. Is there is a tool for that in SSM if not should those be rebuilt in SSM from the scratch.
how do we replicate everything fromPM to  SSM
From the developer perspective what will their tasks.
    Edited by: chrisbaker1999 on Jun 16, 2011 1:01 PM

    Chris,
What the External Data Loader does is to allow you to transfer your scorecard structure from Performance Manager to Strategy Management. What you are importing is the structure of Contexts, Perspectives, Objectives and KPI aspects. It allows you to put all of these in the loader, verify the structure in the loader, and then using Transport to bring into SSM.
There are additional definitions and settings that SSM requires that will have to be added after you Transport the loader's data.
You will still have to build PAS models separately, because the External Data Loader does not build models.
The Transporter tool in SSM allows you to export (and then import) your scorecard metadata from DEV to PROD. Moving between systems is a two-step process, and Transporter is step one. PAS is separate (step two) and you make a dump of the model in your DEV system, take that dump file from the Home directory in DEV and move it to the Home directory in PROD. In the PROD system you create a new PAS model frame and then load that dump into the new framework.
Each SAP customer has a super-administrator that can add users to the SAP Service Marketplace. Find out who your super-admin is and get yourself added to allow you access to those areas on Service Marketplace.

  • Performance Point Cascading filter challange - Can it be done? If not, we need to change our BI front end!!

My challenge at the moment is that I need to create a dynamic filter. To explain this is a cascading filter but not your normal cascading filter,
    ie, Year/Month/day etc.
Here we have a single Dimension, Organisation. It contains every level of a business,
    Site,
    Dept,
    Company name,
    Division
    Holding
    Strategic Area
From these as a default we have 4 built hierarchies with a different combination of the above.
    Activity (Strategic Area, Dept)
    Organisation (company Name, site, Dept)
    Sites (Division, Site)
    Holdings(Holding, Strategic Area, site, Dept)
At any given time we have have additional Hierarchies created within the Dimension, further adding to the hierarchy list.
We now have a challenge where we require our users to be able to in the first filter select the Hierarchy they want to use, ie, Holdings, Site, Organisation
or Activity. This should then cascade to the second filter and contain the relevant hierarchy and levels as a multi select filter. Of course this also needs to be connected to number of graphs, charts and scorecards on the page, dynamically.
I have gone around the houses to get this to work but not having any luck. Tried the variety of filters available, MDX, member selection, tabular,
SharePoint, and attempted to mix and match to get this to work. I cannot find a way but I don't believe this is not possible.
If it is not possible we must look around for another front end solution for our BI Dashboards which I would prefer to avoid. Any response or suggestion
    would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sheb

This is possible within PerformancePoint 2010. Filters can be cascading. There is one restriction that might affect you, and that is the cascade only works on the preceding level. For example, let's say you have 4 filters, Country, County, City, postcode,
that have been set up in PerformancePoint as cascading filters. Now when you choose a country, say United Kingdom, only Counties within the UK will be displayed. That's exactly as you could expect. However, now if you select Norfolk county, all the cities
with "Norfolk" county will be available. That's including the cities within "Norfolk" Massachusetts. This is because PerformancePoint cascading filters only work between two levels.
Here's a link to setting up cascading filters http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh272541(v=office.15).aspx
Hope that information is useful to you and the cascade limitation doesn't limit you too much.

  • Link a report to a KPI in scorecard

    Hello ,
We are running SSM 7.5 SP 04. We are developing a scorecard for a customer which has objectives and KPIs. For a particular context , there is a KPI where the actuals are percentage values. (Eg actual = 90% target = 80%). There are 2 requirements for the client here :
1.) The client wants the symbol "%" to be displayed beside the words Actual and Target. Actual (%) and Target (%). Is the customization of the column labels possible ? if Yes , then it should apply only for this context and not for other contexts since all the contexts do not contain percent values.
2.) The client wants two more columns beside the Actual and the Target columns. He says that , since we are just displaying percentages , eg 50% he is not sure of the actual figure. the percentage is 50% when it is 50/100 or 100/200. He wants the actual figures to be displayed , so that he can get a clearer picture. Can additional columns be added to the scorecard ?
For the second case , I was thinking of giving a associated report which has all the 4 measures. But in the scorecard details , i was able to see a link which says to "create an associated report " . But after creating the report and saving it, I am unable to see the report after logging in again. I am getting the same link "create associated report " but not a link to the report already created. I am able to find this report in the reports tab. But, the client wants a link to the report from the scorecard.
How can I work around these 2 problems if there is no solution?
    Thanks
    Vijay

    Dear Ricardo ,
1.) I am not changing the UI strings since there are many divisions(contexts) and most of the divisions do not display the actuals as percent values. I will try to change the name of the measure so the the user can understand that its a percentage value. Hope he can approve !!!!!
2.) I bookmarked the KPI and pasted the link in the associate links. But to find the link (external link) , i needed to enable the Home page for the user group. In my project , the user needs to see just the scorecard and the reports tab, but not the Home Page. So , I enabled the Home Page ,to get the link . I pasted the link in the associated links and then disabled the home page .
Ideally , this should not be the method to get the link. Anyways, it solved my problem. Thanks a lot !!!!
    Thanks
    Vijay

Has the semi-annual capability also been included in Entry and Approval?
Is there anything other than the checkbox on the Administration Set Defaults page that needs to be enabled?

  • SEM-CPM Balanced Scorecard and time-variant results/scores

    Hi everyone!
I have successfully created a basic Balanced Scorecard with SAP SEM 4.0. By configuring the "Value Fields" and using "Formula Result-Score Assignment", I have specified which results are equivilant to what score. As an example, a have defined that a process cycle time of 25 minutes is equivilant to a score value of 85 (out of 100) and a process cycle time of 20 minutes is equivilant to a score value of 100.
Since I want to use my Balanced Scorecard for strategic planning (along with SEM/BW-BPS), I want these result-score assignments to vary of the upcoming period. As an example, in 6 months time a process cycle time of 20 minutes should be a score of 100 (as above). But since I want to improve my operational performance, in 12 months time a cycle time of 17 should be 100 (as my process cycle time should have improved by then). In other words, my planning targets should be dynamic (depending on time) and not only static (always the same).
My question is now, how can I define different Result-Score Assignment (in other words: goals/targets) for different time horizons? Can I do that with integrating SEM/BW-BPS?
    Best regards,  Daniel

Originally I  have one model from BW where dimensions are imported thru BICA all worked fine except reports, trying to understand the problem I created a new model using copy dimension (first I moved to external file and then importing to a new model from this files) then I use a snapshot Update to load some variables (I reduce the model to 10 variables and 3 dimensions). This idea worked  nice now I can see the small data set perfectly in Pas and in SSM application including legacy reports. For both models when I tried to doing reports I got the same error, both connection are working and checked for reporting.  As the new test model is very small I will show you the dimensions, maybe I can’t see the problem because it’s obvious

  • Error with Export Scorecard Functionality

    All -
When I try to utilize the 'Export' scorecard functionality in SSM 7.0, I get the following error message:
"Error opening Excel Automation Server can't create object.  This can be cause by:
-Application is not installed on your machine
-Browser security does not allow ActiveX scripts
-You were prompted to run ActiveX and you said No,
If that is the case, close all browser instances and reopen"
Does anyone know why?  Are there specific internet explorer settings that I should look at for fixing this issue?
    Jason

    Jason,
Active X is required to run certain functions of SSM. In Outlook > Tools > Internet Options > Security (tab) > Internet > Custom Settings
There are a number of different Active X settings. Change all of them to ENABLE - EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWING:
    - Download signed Active X controls - change to PROMPT
    - Download unsigned Active X controls - change to PROMPT
    - Initialize and script Active X controls not mark as safe - leave as DISABLE
They other possible issue would be not having Excel installed. Just to mention that if  you are working at the server level, there would have to be Excel installed at the server as well. Probably not your issue, but bring it up since often server won't have the full compliment of supporting applications installed at that level.

  • How to Access SSM PAS model database in Business Objects

    Dear Gurus,
My core user would like to see few reports from SSM into Business objects.
How can I create a universe from SSM DB , connection type ?.
    Please suggest.
    Regards
    Arif

    HI Qureshi,
In order to create a Universe on top of Strategy Management Data (Scorecards or PAS models), you need to be on 7.5 SP2 minimum. Anyway, I strongly advise to always have the latest SP (currently SP5 HF1) installed.
For detailed information on this topic, you should go through the [Strategy Management Configuration Help for Servers|https://websmp206.sap-ag.de/instguidescpm-stm] that you can find in the Service Marketplace.
    This guide provides details on:
Providing Strategy Management Data for Xcelsius Dashboards (through Web Services)
Providing Strategy Management Data for Voyager (through the creation of a Universe)
    Hope this helps!
