SSMS 2014 File Extensions

Why can't I associate file extensions within SSMS 2014? I want .TAB, .PRC, .UDF, etc. to open as a .SQL file would, i.e. connected to a server and with appropriate syntax colour coding.
Adding an extension in Tools\Options\Text Editor\File Extensions has no effect. This is using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 12.0.2000.8.

That's not the problem. Files such as .PRC or .UDF will open within SSMS 2014 when double-clicked from Explorer, however they don't have syntax colouring, don't offer the option to specify a server connection and can't be executed, (not surprising
if they're not connected to a server!).
This looks like a bug that was previously reported in SQL 2012, which if this is the case, is frankly pathetic from MS. Every organisation I've worked for differentiate their database object types by these kind of file extensions, so my current employer
is certainly not unique in this. IF this can't be resolved I'll have to pay for something that will work, such as Quest's Toad product, not ideal when I've already paid a huge sum of money for SQL Server.

SSMS 2014 crashes on startup - Windows 8.1

I had it working briefly, and I suspect some Visual Studio Nuget packages may have screwed it up. Both SSMS 2014 and Visual Studio 2013 stopped working at the same time, although I managed to fix VS by uninstalling and reinstalling. The same
has not worked with SQL Server.
On startup of SSMS I get the message "SQL Server Management Studio has stopped working".
The Event Viewer gives the following two errors:

I have also tried to install SQL Server Express but get an complaint about "Validation errors no the page", and the detail is that all the features are installed.

Thanks, but I'm not paying $499 for MS to get their software to work out of the box.
You need not pay to get the fix from Microsoft. It would be refunded back to you when case is closed. You need to tell this to engineer that the case is only to get a fix and need to be marked as "non-decrement"
But, if you need any troubleshooting assistance, then it would be a paid support.

Batch Rename with additional "."s, drops the file extension. Request for "Keep File Extension" option...

I NEVER name files with extra "." s in the name. I realize that all OS's (even Windows) will recognize it, but I haven't gotten out the old mindset of 8.3 filenaming... Although I do use longer names. So... I was surprised to see that when I was renaming files as per a clients naming preference to add a period within the name, the file extension is removed.
For example:
original file - 2014_10_31_1643.CR2 when batch renaming to "2014.31" + sequence, drops the "CR2" extension.
but.... if I change it to "2014_31" + sequence, the ".CR2" remains
Since adding multiple "." is a legitimate naming convention, shouldn't the file extension remain? Or, possibly this could be made more flexible by adding a check box "Keep file extension"

The finder will only select the filename only for "known" file types.

I have installed SQL SERVER 2014 and the installation was successful.
When I tried to open the SQL SERVER Management Studio SSMS 2014 and as soon as when clicked on connect to server, I am getting the following error message :

I really couldn't understand what the issue is. I googled the issue but couldn't find the correct solution. So far, I have done the following :
I did run as administrator, but still getting the error message.
I have done the Repair of the installation, but still getting the error message.
I have uninstalled SSMS and again reinstalled, but still getting the error message.
I have modified the dll files and again have done the Repair, but still getting the error message.
Can anyone provide any feedback on how to resolve the above issue?

Trying to install SSMS 2014 on laptop

I have sql server 2005 - 2008 R2 installed on my desktop. I want to install SSMS 2014 so I can manage 2014 sql servers. Will I wanted to just upgrade my 2008R2 install to 2014. But since I have 2005 (non SR pack 4) it will not allow me to install 2014. Why
is the install looking at all sql servers can't I just updgrade one install which is 2008R2 not the 2005.
How can I upgrade my 2008R2 install to 2014 when I have 2005 installed without Service pack 4?
Also I have SSDT 2014 for VS2013 installed, along with TFS explore 2013 (but I don't have VS2013 (ultimate, proff, etc) installed. WHen I launch SSDT for VS2013 it opens but under the file menu I don't see new project without installing full blown VS2013
how can I get new projects so I can build SSIS, SSAS projects?

That is the reason for me to ask the forum cause I had SQL server 2005 - 208RS installed, VS 2005- 2008 installed along with TFS explore 2010 - 2012. Before I start to instal SQL 2014 or SSDT-BI for VS 2013.
1. I would like to know how I can upgrade on sql server install while not the others and I have one sql server install (2005) that doesn't meet the criteria but I don't want to upgrade that one. So if one instll doesn't pass the criteria ou can't upgrade
any of the installs?
2. I would like to know if I can just have SSDT-BI installed and get the new project option ? I don't now which is vry confusing to me. What do I need to have installed to create SSIS, SSAS projects? I taught it was just SSDT-BI installed. Do I need anything

According to your description, you don’t install SQL Server 2008 R2 database engine, so you cannot upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2014. In your scenario, you can only upgrade SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2014 and please apply SQL Server 2005
SP4 before the upgrading process.
Besides, to create SSIS, SSAS projects, we should install SSDT-BI. For more details, please review this
blog. As you don’t get new project option after installing SSDT-BI, I recommend you post the question in the
SQL Server Data Tools forum for better help.

Photoshop cs5 is not appending file extensions

in previous versions, photoshop appended to the file extension in the fiel save/save as dialog box. it no longer does this and when you save a file it does not append the file extension to the file name, resulting in unknown fiel type.
i am running windows 7 64-bit with photoshp cs5.
it does not make any since to have the option of appending the file extension if the program is not going to do it.

Just tried this out on my Windows 7 64 bit system, and I get the same results using Photoshop.
When I save a file in Photoshop CS5 64 bit with the name 047. Crayon - Abstract the file is saved as 047. Crayon - Abstract without a file extension, no matter what document type I select in the drop-down.

Download ZIP file without changing file extension

I regularly download a zipped csv file, of the format: "filename.csv.gz". As the name does not change, Firefox adds a digit to distinguish it, so for example I get "filename.csv-3.gz". This is a pain as it changes the file extension which means that I cannot open the extracted file without first renaming it. I want to keep an archive of all the files, so deleting them each time isn't really an option, and neither is moving them to a different location each time. Is there any way the naming convention for downloads can be changed?

I have many photos with file extension of .PDD and that Photo Deluxe 4 no longer will operate in Win 7. How can I open? Next in Elements 11, how do I load and print different pictures and different sizes options on the same page?

I have many photos with file extension of .PDD and that Photo Deluxe 4 no longer will operate in Win 7. How can I open? Next in Elements 11, how do I load and print different pictures and different sizes options on the same page?

The extension is usually .mov, .m4v, or .mp4. But you can't just change the extension. The movies have to be encoded in a particular fomat. Anything downloaded from iTunes or plays in Quicktime player will be fine.

Hello i have a ton of pictures in seperate folders with the extensions .JPEG and i really hate that it shows. I have tried going to the finder and unchecking the show all file extensions, but it does not fix that issue. I also saw this in another topic but i haven't been able to understand it.
Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and paste in the following:
tell application "Finder"
set extension hidden of every file of entire contents of (selection as alias) to true
end tell
Select the folder enclosing the documents in the Finder, and press the Run button in the Script Editor. If they are enclosed by multiple folders or are at different levels in the folder structure, select the first folder which encloses all the documents.

I don't know if it still works. Im also not sure where i put the folder. I have tried programs but they take away the extension and make the picture not open up then.

Instead of copy values into forms you can save them in your temporary table.

I am getting below error message while search crawl in sharepoint foundation 2010 search for only .VSD files and not for any other docs type.

1. Checked the file extension is added or not to the search file types.
2. Checked file name has any invalid characters.
3. Resetting the crawl index and run a full crawl .

Backup with cloning software your HD to have an exact copy of it as it is.
