SSO and Windows Native Mode Benefits?

Hi All
We currently run EP7 SP8 and I need to find out what the benefits are if we move to Win2000 or Win2003 Native mode. Also if we can use SSO with Win2000 or Win 2003.
Does anyone have any information which would help me weigh up the pros and cons of implementing this.
Many Thanks for your help
Phil

thank you for your reply,
Metalink note 277382.1 is a good document how to configure OID External Authentication Plugin for Authentication Via Microsoft Active.
configure OID for import users and External Authentication Plugin are a prerequisites steps for SSO WNA. but WNA must more other steps not descript in this metalink note
N.B: WNA "Windows Native Authentication" is a feature for Oracle SSO which enables Microsoft Internet Explorer users to automatically authenticate to their web applications using their desktop credentials.
thanks

  • Get an error for changing the windows authentication mode to the both SQL and windows authentication mode

I installed the SQL server Express 2008 R2 and then SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2 . But during the installation, I could not choose the both SQL and windows authentication mode and an error accrued so I did that just with windows authentication mode.
Now, I want to change the windows authentication mode account to the SQL authentication mode but it shows me an error which is you do not have permission (Although I am the administrator in windows), what can I do?
Following steps are the steps that I went but I got an error:
Server properties >> security >> choose the option of SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode
and the error that I got is attached(access is denied)
    Can you please help me?

You can change the setting after you gain admin rights to your SQL Server. You don't admin rights automatically, you have to explicitly add yourself during the install
Here's a guide on how to (re)gain those rights:

I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and now my Palm T3 will not sync.  I downloaded desktop 6.3, 4.1.4, and 4.1.4e. I tried all three in both windows 7 and windows XP mode which I am told is a 32 bit O/S but I'm really not sure.  I have tried hot syncing in bluetooth in windows 7 the T3 and Laptop connect but it keeps telling me the port is in use by another program? Does anyone know what I have to do to get it to sync or am I doomed to throw my trusty T3 out? Any Ideas?

  • Problem with Win 7 x64, WWAN or WiFi card and Windows XP Mode

I have a T500 with switchable graphics (2056-4RU) with a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64 with the AT&T WWAN card.
With all the Win7 RTM drivers and Access Connections for Win7, I had a problem that the WWAN card (Ericson F3507g, purchased from Lenovo and working flawlessly under Vista 32-bit) would not initialize. Support told me to uninstall the Win 7 versions of the Power Manager Drivers, WWAN card driver and Access Connections and replace them with the Vista counterparts, which restored the functionality of my WWAN card. Based on the speed with which the support tech came up with the suggested fix, I suspect I am not the only one with the disappearing WWAN card problem.
Now I have found that starting the Windows XP Mode virtual machine kills the WiFi functionality (Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) until I disable and re-enable the WiFi adapter in Device Manager and then restart the system. (I have not problems with XP Mode and with the Win7 drivers / Access Connections opening Windows XP Mode did not cause the problem with the WiFi.) Opening Windows XP Mode causes no problem with the wired network adapter on my system).
Thus it appears that I can have functionality of the WWAN and WiFi adapters with XP Mode using the Released Win 7 versions and functionality of Windows XP Mode together OR I can have WWAN but not WiFi functionality with XP Mode using the Vista drivers that support suggested. However, it seems that I cannot have WWAN, WiFi and XP Mode concurrently.
I reproduced the above XP mode / WWAN problem / WiFi problems on a T500 with Win7 x64 owned by another family member.
Does anyone (particularly anyone from Lenovo) have fix for this?
    Thanks.

for the sim card, try this:
    http://jack.ukleja.com/update-ericsson-f3507g-mobile-broadband-on-windows-7-with-lenovo-thinkpad/com...
I have another operator and I finally gave up. apparently it's also no that easy to install the SIM card, if the plastic thing that helps to remove the SIM card  is not the right position, it will overlap the SIM Card chip.
can't help for the WIFI. I had the problems too with access connection and decided to remove it. I use Seven's network manager, which does an equally good job.
Since I have the switch to turn off the wireless, I don't really need access connection anyway.
Finally, something that I learns while struggling with the bluetooth driver: the order in which power manager, access connection and the different drivers are installed DOES affect their effectiveness. I forgot the details but I remember 2 things:
always read the TXT file that is available on the driver page on the lenovo web site and install power manager and access connection last.
    Good luck

  • Adobe AIR HTML/JS application and Windows Native Installer

    Hi,
I am building an Adobe AIR application with HTML and Javascript and I would like to know how to make an Windows Native Installer.
I am trying to build it with Flash Pro but it keeps returning the error 'Invalid SWF file'. At the application.xml file the <content> points to my index.html file. I don't use any SWF file. When I change this to point to the SWF it does build tha installer but the application loads the SWF.
Is there any way to build a Windows Native Installer and the initial content be an HTML file?
p.s. I tried to extract the files from the installer file and edit the application.xml there to point to the index.html. But I can't repackage the files to a valid air native installer.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Thank you for reporting this. The internal bug number for the issue is #2740755. The issue is currently under review and will be investigated by one of AIR team members.

  • Z77A-G65 and windows 8 mode shows no drives

I put the latest firmware on, and tried to install windows 8 pro after turning on windows 8 features mode in the UEFI setup.
I have the main drive on the system as a Samsung 830 128GB SSD the on the 6Gbit controller ports... then 2 2TB HDD's in RAID1 on the 3Gbit ports, which has RAID mode turned on on all the ports
when I go into the setup, it tells me no drives are available to intall on, any reason why this would be? I can find the drives fine if I turn windows 8 features mode off in the BIOS config for UEFI

Quote from: xmad on 16-November-12, 23:58:29
    IRST= Intel Rapid Storage Technology
Win 8 didn't detect the drives during install until I installed the drivers, then it did just fine. I just included them on the flash drive with which I was installing. The install still didn't work so it doesn't really matter though as it fails when "preparing devices"
yes... I know what the IRST drivers are... they are built into the windows setup driver cache.... like I said I can see the RAID array without loading any drivers when I start up the windows installer for windows 8 in UEFI mode but with the windows 8 features not enabled...
    BIOS -> Windows 8 Features > disabled
On Boot get boot menu, select UEFI: [Windows 8 Setup drive name here]
UEFI Setup loader starts, shows the windows logo for the loading screen
    click install
Intel RAID array drives listed are showing up
that is with Windows 8 features disabled
    BIOS -> Windows 8 Features > Enabled
On boot menu select UEFI: [Windows 8 setup drive name here]
UEFI Loader starts but now the windows logo shows up as a MSI logo (sign that windows 8 features are now enabled)
    click install
Intel RAID array drives are no longer showing up on the drive list
if I didn't have the drivers already in the setup, why does the array show up in the first setup with the features disabled? you need them to see the array
something isn't working as it should because you sould see the same arrays in both scenerios, for some reason the drivers are not loading when windows 8 features are enabled but load fine when the features are disabled in the bios config

  • How to get the SSO user from PL/SQL with Windows native authen

I connect to a 10g daabase using SSO through Windows Native Authentication wher the OID user mapps to a single Database user.
I need to get the SSO user from pl/sql
My fornt end is Portal & Forms

    Hmm, I see.
Well your problem boils down to being in the database and needing to have access to web environment variables. The SSO sets specific variables in the environment but your stored procedure is not privy to them.
Now having said that, note that the mod_plsql Web Toolkit has a utility for accessing cgi variables. For instance,
    owa_util.get_cgi_env('Osso-User-Dn')
If your web application cannot capture the SSO info and pass it to the stored proc in a parameter, OWA may be the only way.
Check out the Single Sign-On Developers Guide, specifically the part about developing statically protected PLSQL applications.
    Hope this helps.

  • Windows Native Authentication from Windows 7

Has anyone successfully tested SSO with Windows Native authentication from a windows 7 client ?
I have a working setup with SSO on OID 10.1.4.3 but with windows 7 client I get the fallback login prompt instead of automatic login.
I have got a workaround from support but it still does not work:
    - on the client Windows7 PC to to PC security policies (Policies -> Network Security -> Configure encryption types allowed for Kerberos) and select all of them EXCEPT the “Allow future types” option;
    - change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\SuppressExtendedProtection = REG_DWORD with a value of 3 (please take a backup of the registry settings before any change).

  • In XP Mode on Windows 7, after installing application as like I would normally on an actual XP system, application will not start in windows XP mode itself.

Just did a clean install of windows 7.  I then downloaded windows XP mode and Windows Virtual Mode.  Everything ran flawlessly and everything is updated.  I needed to Install a program called Dentrix 10.5 which can only be installed on Windows
XP for numerous reasons and one including it needing to use Microsoft .NET 1.0.  I installed this program on Windows XP Mode as I would as if I were installing it with a computer with windows XP.  The Install of the program went fine and completed.
Still being in Windows XP Mode I wanted to see how it would run.  I hit Start Menu, All Programs, Startup Programs, and clicked on the Dentrix Application.  Once I clicked it the time glass on the  mouse was there for a few seconds and
then went away without the application starting up at all.  One thing that I'm thinking is why after I clicked Start Menu, All programs, is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?  Any Ideas how
to get the program to run?  Like I said, I am trying to run the program in Windows XP Mode and not Windows 7 as I have found many Q's and A's on only how to do that.  Also this is the second application which I downloaded and the first being Microsoft
Security Essentials so I know I don't have some virus from keeping from opening the Dentrix Application.  Incase you are wondering the Microsoft Security Essentials opens and runs fine in Windows XP Mode.  So Pretty Much My Main question is: Why
my application not starting up in Windows XP Mode?  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Once I clicked it the time glass on the mouse was there for a few seconds and then went away without the application starting up at all.
A couple times a week I open Dentrix 11.0 in a virtual machine on Windows 7. I experience the same thing almost every time I open the VM. I must first get Windows to "reconnect" my network for me. Do this by opening Start | My Computer, and
double-click on the mapped network drive leading to the Dentrix data. After I can see the Dentrix data drive, Dentrix will be able to read it too and will open correctly.
In Dentrix, seeing nothing (or briefly seeing a hourglass and then seeing nothing) is a classic sign that either:
    - The database files are marked as Read Only
    - The program cannot access the data files (probably the folder it is pointed to does not contain any data).
    - Or possibly the database path does not point to the right location where the data files are located
Open the folder where you installed the program files of Dentrix (probably c:\program files\dentrix\) and double-click to run EP.EXE. The database path will be revealed. You can "Browse" to the correct location, and "OK" through the dialog to
close them. Then try opening Dentrix again.
Should that not work, open Start | My Computer, and try to open the path (starting with the drive letter, then the folder structure you saw in EP.EXE).
By the way, if your path uses UNC (starting with two back-slashes and then the computer name of the server), you'll need to map a network drive and replace your path with a mapped drive path. (Map a drive in Start | My Computer | Tools | Map Network
Drive). Dentrix really doesn't like UNC paths.
Dentrix 10.5 can only be installed on Windows XP
    Microsoft .NET 1.0
Just FYI, Microsoft .Net Framework 1.0 is required only for the "Time Clock" feature of Dentrix. Windows 7 already has .NET Framework features up to version 3.5 built in, and Time Clock (in my experience) works great under Windows 7 without installing
    .NET 1.0.
Have you tried installing directly in Windows 7? I have a specific reason why I don't (I have a newer version of Dentrix installed on my Win 7 machine, and use the VM to go back to an older database occasionally - so I can't mix two different program versions
on the same machine). If you were to try installing this program under Windows 7 directly, Dentrix will launch the Microsoft .NET Framework install after the Dentrix install is completed. Just cancel out at that point (Windows will probably give you an "incompatibility"
error message anyway before allowing the install to go through) and I believe you can run it under Windows 7. That might eliminate the networking-through-the-VM issue. So, if you have no other reason not to install Dentrix on your Windows 7 machine directly,
I'd try it. You might be surprised and if it works, you'd save yourself some headache with connecting the to network through the virual machine.
Is why was Dentrix not in its own folder and instead in the Startup programs after All programs?
During the installation, on the Select Program Folder screen, you must have clicked the "Startup" option under Existing Folders. By default, "Dentrix" will be typed into the box at the top. If you simply clicked Next, it would have gone
to the correct location. The screen is a little confusing, because something in the list will be highlighted by default, but what is typed into the box at the top will actually be used.

  • Windows XP Mode will not run

I have installed Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode following the steps outlined on the Microsoft website.
I enabled hardware virtualization in the BIOS, as requested, and then ran the hardware virtualization detect tool, and this indicated that hardware virtualization was working ok.
When I try to run Windows XP Mode, I get the following error message:
"Cannot start Windows Virtual PC Host Process. Check the system event log for more details
    Server execution failed"
The Event Viewer shows the following Errors for Virtual PC:
"One or more files from the Virtual PC installation are missing. Please reinstall Virtual PC and try again."
    and
"Virtual machine Error - Server execution failed  (0x80080005)"
I have reinstalled Virtual PC, and I get the same errors.
I looked at Device Manager, and Virtual PC Host Bus Driver has an exlamation mark, indicating there is a problem. The driver properties reports:
"Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)"
If I try to update the driver software, it reports that the best driver software is already installed.
I get this same device driver error after uninstalling everything, and then re-installing in the order stipulated on the Microsoft website.
I need to be able to run a Windows XP virtual machine, so please can someone help with this.
Details of my PC are as follows:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

    Installed memory (RAM): 32.0 GB

  • Windows XP mode/ Windows virtual PC

I have to support some LV7.1 programs (along with newer versions).  I just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Home 64-bit.  LV7.1 loads and runs, but the drivers disk pukes on the 64-bit OS.  (This was not unexpected...)
The new PC does have an Intel processor that will support Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP mode.
I will need to upgrade to W7 Pro, but before I do, I'd like to get some feeling that it will all work.  Should older NIDaq, MAX, etc. install OK in XP mode?  Has anybody done this?  Is there another solution that is better?
    Solved!

    Seth,
    Thanks for the speedy reply.
I try to use NI-DAQmx, but I won't swear that I don't have traditional DAQ routines out there.  I would like to run real hardware (USB DAQ) on my new laptop, de-bug and burn executables.
What are my options?  I could keep LV7.1 on my old desktop, newer versions on my new laptop.  Would I be running afowl of LV's EULA?  Does NI care about antique versions of LV?
I see that NI-DAQmx 9.0 supports versions LV8.2.1, 8.5.1 and 8.6.1.  If I put these on my 64-bit, will executables I make run on 32-bit target systems?
I don't want to flush Windows 7 64-bit to install the 32-bit.  I want it all!
My company has let my subscription lapse.  I don't have LV 2009.  Not much chance of an upgrade this year...

  • Windows XP mode with Virtual PC will not install / two problems

Hello!  I posted this on the Microsoft Windows Answers forums and a moderator there suggested I post it here instead.  I also searched here for similiar problems but did not find anyone having the exact same problem as I am having.  Also for
some reason it won't let me post links, so I had to remove them.
I have Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) and I want to follow the instructions here:
    LINK REMOVED
to install and run Virtual PC so I can see if some legacy XP software I have will work.
I am using a Lenovo W520 laptop with an i7 at 2.4ghz with 8GB of RAM.
I followed step 1/step 2 and downloaded the 500MB file for Windows XP Mode.  I installed it.
Problem #1:  There's a note at the bottom of the page which says "Once you have installed Windows XP Mode, click the Windows 7 Start button then select All Programs > Windows Virtual PC > Windows XP Mode to begin setup. For information on how
to set up Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, check out "Running Windows XP Mode with Windows Virtual PC" on the Support and Videos page. "
I am looking at the All Programs view and there's absolutely nothing which says "Windows Virtual PC" or "Windows XP Mode".  I go look at Programs and Features in the control panel and indeed, Windows XP mode is installed (and taking up 1.13GB).
I uninstall it and re-download the 500mb file and re-install it.  It still doesn't show up in the All Programs view, doesn't add an icon to my desktop or quick launch bar, or do anything which suggests a way to start it.  It resides in C:\Program
Files\Windows XP Mode, but there are no executeable files there.
Problem #2: Step 3 says  "Download Windows Virtual PC".  When I click on that button, the download starts, but never works (I tried multiple times, including after a clean reboot, with nothing except Internet Explorer running) ; I get an error
    window which says:
    "Windows Update Standalone Installer
    Installer encountered an error: 0x80070422
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
     What is going wrong?
     Thanks.
Note; After posting this questio on Windows Answers, some related questions popped up and I read through them.  One post points to a posting on the Sevenforums ->LINK REMOVED which suggests that Problem #2 is my real problem because I follow
along perfectly until step #5-E and then I get the 0x80070422 error message.

Problem 2 is the issue, without installing a virtualization program like WVPC, XP Mode can't be used.
    Try this:
    Method 1:
I would suggest you to follow the steps and check.
To start the Windows Installer service in Windows 7 checks the steps below.
    a) Click on start.
    b) Type Services.msc in the start search bar and press enter.
    c) Scroll down and Double-click on the service named "Windows Installer".
    d) Check the value in the 'Startup type:' field.
    e) If it's currently set to "Disabled", then this could cause the issue.
    f) Change it by selecting "Manual" from the drop-down box.
    Method 2:
Step 1: Make sure Volume Shadow Copy Service is set to automatic and started. To do this, follow these steps:
    a) Click on Start-Run, type services.msc, the click on OK.
    b) When the Services window loads, navigate to the “Volume Shadow Copy Service ", the double click on it to open it,
    c) Make sure the "Startup Type" says "Automatic" and
started. If it doesn't, use the drop down menu to change it.
    d) If it already says: "Automatic", then click on the "Recovery" tab at the top, and change the "First Failure" line to "Restart the Service", then click on "apply", then OK.
Step 2: Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the hard drive.
    a. Click on start and in the start search bar type CMD, right click on the command prompt icon in the programs area and then click on run as administrator.
    b. At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter.
    Now, type in chkdsk /r
Note: CHKDSK would try to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, during this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular sector.
Step 3: Disable the security software and then start the backup; follow the steps mentioned in the link below
    Disable-antivirus-software
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software
Important: Enable the security software back once everything is done.
    Method 3;

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To rerun a scan with the latest anti-malware definitions, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

  • Using Sharepoint 2013 with SSRS native mode !

    Hi there !
We have 2 servers A & B. A is Sharepoint server and on B we have installed SSRS in native mode. Server C is database. We are not looking to use SharePoint Integration mode but We are planning to use native mode only !
We are looking for a way to make A & B talk as how a report hosted on B will show up on A since its not in integrated mode?
Can you please let us know of the proper steps to deploy this?
    Thanks in Advance !

the "integration" between SP and SSRS native mode is basically an IFrame.
you should be able to find the RS native mode integration solution file (which is just two webparts, the report manager web part, and report viewer web part) somewhere on the SQL server / media... should still work with SP2013.
Keep in mind that SharePoint's authentication will be COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT AND UNUSED when accessing the reports... an iFrame is just another web request made by the browser.
