SSRS 2008 DateTime picker to UNIX/EPOCH field

Im trying to write a report that presents data based on a date range(selected by the person running the report) using SQL Server reporting.
I build the start date and the end date as parameters and as a selectable date/Time data type and create a dataset with the following simple query:
SELECT callclass AS CallType, COUNT(callclass) AS Total
FROM opencall
WHERE (companyname = @name) AND (status <> 17) AND (logdate >= @StartDate) AND (logdate <= @EndDate)
GROUP BY callclass
The problem I have is that the logdate field is stored as an EPOCH/UNIX value and therefore the report does not run. How can I get the date/time picker to convert the selected value into an epoch string and return the correct data for the date range selected?
Help muchly appreciated.

Hi  Josh/Sylove1
I'm trying to do exactly the same thing (and I think using the same application, judging by the field names) but keep getting a syntax error notification.
Is the syntax below correct?
SELECT callclass AS CallType, COUNT(callclass) AS Total
FROM opencall
WHERE (companyname = @name) AND (status <> 17) AND (logdate BETWEEN DATEDIFF(second, '1970-01-01 00:00:00', @StartDate) AND DATEDIFF(second, '1970-01-01 00:00:00', @EndDate))
GROUP BY callclass
Whats the datatype of @StartDate and @EndDate?

  • Conversion of Standard Datetime format to Unix (Epoch) time

    Hi,
I am having trouble getting efficient record selection for time ranges on DB2 tables that use the UNIX epoch time stamp.
E.g., for a 1 minute time range we would currently use SQL such as:
    SELECT * FROM DATABASE.TABLE WHERE  ((TIMESTAMP('1970-01-01-00.00.00.000000') + (("EPOCH_TIME" + 3600000)/1000) SECONDS)>={ts '2008-09-04 14:29:00'} AND (TIMESTAMP('1970-01-01-00.00.00.000000') + (("EPOCH_TIME" + 3600000)/1000) SECONDS)<{ts '2008-09-04 14:30:01'})
    This is the equivalent of:
    select * from DATABASE.TABLE where EPOCH_TIME between 1220534940000 and 1220535000000.
Now clearly the problem is the top SQL doing a calculation for every record (up to 5,000,000 records) to select the data. It takes approximately 5 minutes to return the data. The bottom SQL takes LESS THAN A SECOND.
Please, please, please could someone help us with this? We need to be able to enter a datetime variable, and have the SQL sent to the DB2 table in the format of the lower SQL above.
We are using a BO XI Enterprise server to do this.

    OK Everyone.
This is how to do it:
Use the following (for Crystal Reports XI)
    DateDiff (intervalType, startDateTime, endDateTime)
    as:
    Datediff ("s",(datetime(date(1970,01,01)),time(00,00,00)),currentdatetime)
Looks a bit too simple, but does work. Look out for differences between the results due to daylight saving.

  • SQL SSRS 2008 DateTime Calendar Control and Oracle 10g Data Source

Hello. I am creating reports in SSRS 2008 using the calendar control for a date range. Let's say we select a start date of 3/3/2012. This parameter is sent into my SQL statement in the WHERE clause which is executed against an Oracle 10g database. All syntax has to be in SQL that Oracle understands, so no CONVERT or CAST.
The format of the date is throwing an error "ORA-01843: not a valid month" when I try to use the following:
    SELECT *
    FROM TABLE
    WHERE STARTDATE >= TO_DATE('3/03/2012', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
I get ORA-01722: invalid number when I try the following:
    SELECT *
    FROM TABLE
    WHERE STARTDATE >= >= TO_CHAR('3/03/2012', 'MM/DD/YYYY')
I cannot find a way to format the date parameter in SQL Server SSRS before it gets to the SQL to be executed in Oracle.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Sunny

It works. The problem is getting the parameter '3/3/2012' into a usable format for Oracle.
Let's assume an application is sending in '3/3/2012' which will be used in an Oracle query (no PL/SQL allowed, nor can I create functions, stored procedures, etc - only straight up SQL). How can I prepare the parameter to successfully do the compare on the Oracle Date field?

  • Calculate percentage between two rows in a matrix report with a single row group in SSRS 2008

I need your help. I have a matrix report in ssrs 2008. The report contain one field value column and one value column. I need to calculate a percentage for two values. For example : row 1 : Discount 10 Row 2 : Sales 100 Result : 10/100. I have only one
row group, I need to have a condition where Field = Discount % on Revenue then Discount/Total Turnover. Because of the  grouping for total, I am not being able to calculate the %, its just totalling the % discount. Kindly refer to the snapshot of the
    report.

Hi Thanks a lot for your answer, but unfortunately it didn't work, the report is reading from a stored procedure which I have unpivot to convert all columns into rows, so that's why Discount % on Revenue, Discount and Total Turnover is found in one column.
So the Field!Col.Value is the Discount % on Revenue, Discount and Total Turnover. I have tried to change the code to
    "=SUM(IIF(Fields!Col.Value = "Discount",Fields!value.Value),0))
    /IIF(SUM(IIF(Fields!Col.Value = "Turnover Total",Fields!value.Value),0)) = 0 ,
Nothing,SUM(IIF(Fields!Col.Value = "Turnover Total",Fields!value.Value),0)))" but to no avail. Any other suggestion will be most welcome.
    Thanks.
If everything you're getting from stored procedure then you need to calculate and bring the value from there itself.

  • Is there a way in SSRS 2008 to format datetime to half hour?

Is there a way to format date time in SSRS 2008 to half hour. I am working on a graph and I am sorting by the hour, but i need
half hour is there a way I can do this?

    Hi Fozzy767,
To round time to half hour, we need to use custom function in SQL Server Reporting Service(SSRS). A similiar function can be got from the following thread:

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 pass paramter value to a sort

In a new SSRS 2008 r2 report, I am going to be using sql within a dataset and not a stored
procedure since will I need to pass multiple values to each parameter.
One of the parameters that I will be working with is allowing the user to be able to pick what items
they want to sort on. The sort will have 3 items that will be always be sorted on first which are:
year, and school_number.  The users will be able to pick additional items to sort on like grade, and teacher.
The following is the sql that I have so far:
    select year,  school_number, grade,teacher,room,course_number, course_name
    from dbo.school
order by  year,  school_number, several parameter values.
Thus I am wondering if you would modify the sql above so that I can allow the user to sort on the additional parameters in any order like grade,teacher,room,course_number, course_name?
If any part of my request is not possible, I am wondering if you would show me what is possible in the sql?

    Hi jazz_dog,
According to your description, you want to sort the report by grade,teacher,room,course_number or course_name based on a parameter selection. If in this case, we can add an expression in sorting to achieve your requirement:
Add a parameter named Sort with the available values below to the report:
    Label: grade                                       Value: grade
    Label: teacher                                     Value: teacher
    Label: room                                        Value: room
    Label: course_number                         Value: course_number
    Label: course_name                            Value: course_name
Add a the expression below to the tablix Sorting:
    =switch(Parameters!Sort.Value="grade",Fields!grade.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value="teacher",Fields!teacher.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value="room",Fields!room.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value=" course_number",Fields!course_number.Value,Parameters!Sort.Value="course_name",Fields!course_name.Value)

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 date parameter not working all the time

In an SSRS 2008 r2 report, I am not getting some records selected when I run the report in the ssrs 2008 r2 report.
However when I run the sql in ssis manager, the records are selected. Thus I am trying to determine why some of the records are not selected whe running the ssrs report.
In the table called 'transactionfile', the fields that I am trying to determine where there is a problem is the following:
    SchoolNumber (varchar(50),null), and
    TransactionPaymentDate (varchar(50),null).
Examples of data are SchoolNumber = '121' and TransactionPaymentDate = '04162014'
In the SSRS report, the parameter value for @SchoolNumber is text and the parameter value for @EndDate and @StartDate is date/time.
The following is the query I am having a problem with:
    SELECT  s.SchoolNumber,
          CONVERT(smalldatetime,substring(TransactionPaymentDate,5,4) + '-' + substring      (TransactionPaymentDate,1,2)+ '-' +
    substring(TransactionPaymentDate,3,2)) as        TransactionPaymentDate
     from [eF].[dbo].[transactionfile] f
           INNER JOIN
        [eF].[dbo].schools] s
        on rtrim(ltrim(s.SchoolNumber)) =rtrim(ltrim(f.SchoolNumber))
     where  rtrim(ltrim(s.SchoolNumber)) = rtrim(ltrim(@SchoolNumber))
          AND
          Cast(Right(TransactionPaymentDate,4)+Left(TransactionPaymentDate,4)  as Date)
            >= @StartDate
         AND
       Cast(Right(TransactionPaymentDate,4)+Left(TransactionPaymentDate,4)  as Date) <= @EndDate
Thus could you suggerst what could be wrong when selecting some records by date?

First check whether transaction payment date has 8 digit or not. In yes then try the below query,
    SELECT s.SchoolNumber,
    CONVERT(smalldatetime,substring(TransactionPaymentDate,5,4) + '-' + substring(TransactionPaymentDate,1,2)+ '-' +
    substring(TransactionPaymentDate,3,2)) as TransactionPaymentDate
    from [eF].[dbo].[transactionfile] f
    INNER JOIN [eF].[dbo].schools] s
    on rtrim(ltrim(s.SchoolNumber)) =rtrim(ltrim(f.SchoolNumber))
    where rtrim(ltrim(s.SchoolNumber)) = rtrim(ltrim(@SchoolNumber))
    AND
    cast(substring(TransactionPaymentDate,5,4) + '/' +
    substring(TransactionPaymentDate,1,2)+ '/' +
    substring(TransactionPaymentDate,3,2) as date) between @StartDate AND @EndDate

  • Issues passing drillthrough parameters from a multi-level tablix in SSRS 2008 R2

    Hello,
I am really struggling with trying creating a drillthrough report that starts with a matrix (tablix)  and passing those  parameters. I am using SSRS 2008 R2.
    Here's my scenario:
I have a matrix that has mulitple levels where you can drill down. Here an example with all the levels open:
    Active
    Term
    Leave
    Total
    128
    88
    121
    United States
    110
    80
    85
    New York
    65
    30
    57
    Manhattan
    10
    6
    9
    Buffalo
    20
    23
    4
    Albany
    35
    1
    44
    Texas
    45
    50
    28
    Dallas
    40
    30
    22
    Houston
    5
    20
    6
    France
    18
    8
    36
    Centre
    18
    8
    36
    Blois
    7
    2
    8
    Druex
    6
    1
    15
    Tours
    5
    5
    13
I want to drillthrough to another report - Detail Report. As I understand it, I would click the 65 for New York and I would see the detail for the 65 Active people. If I click the 2 under Blois, I would see the 2 terminated people in Blois. My understanding
for this to work, the Detail Report would need a a parameter for each of the level possibilities in the matrix that I could click: Country, State, City as well as the Status (Active, Term, Leave).
While I understand about passing parameters, what I don't understand is how to pass the parameters if they are blank. Let's say I clicked 65 for New York, I would need to pass State = New York  Status = Active. But the remaining parameters (Country
and City  would be null). I know Country doesn't need to be Null in this case.
My Detail Report has the parameters defaulted to Null, but whether I put the parameters in a Filter for the dataset or in the query itself, I cannot get it to ignore the Nulls.
As a crazy work-around (I think) I can put in the Where of the query  something along the lines of: this:
            and (a.Country in (@paramCountryCode) or NULL  in (@paramCountryCode) )
and I would need to do that for each parameter. Usually I have to use 'ALL' instead of NULL, I'm note sure why.
Additionally, in the Report Action of the Main Report, I need to pass those parameters for each level and their Status. I am also not clear whether or not I need to put in all the parameters on each of the levels (Country, State, City) of the matrix. And if
I do, do I need to make the expressions an IIF statement stating whether or not they are In Scope?
All the examples I was able to find, only showed one or maybe two parameters being passed. Doing the way I am trying, seems convoluted, error-prone and tedious. I really hope that I am wrong.
Is there a better way to approach drilltrough reports from a matrix when there are multiple levels?
    Thank you for the help.
    ~J

    Hi Jenna_Fire,
According to your description, you have a matrix contains total for each group on each level. Now your requirement is, when you click on any number (data field or total), it will go to the detail report which returns all the detail information of the people
within the group scope. For example, if you click on the total of Active users in United States, it will return the detail information of Active users in New York and Texas. Right?
In this scenario, we should set the parameter (@Country, @State, @City) allow multiple values in both main and detail report. And in Default Value (@Country, @State, @City), query out all distinct values. In the textbox which contains
those total values, when set use these parameters to run the report, we only need to pass the parameters of parent groups. For example, if we click on the total of Active users in New York, we only need to pass Country, State, Status to detail report, and
in the detail report, the City parameter will use all distinct values (Default Values) because we don't pass the City parameter. We have tested this case with sample data in our local environment. Here are steps and screenshots for your reference:
    1. Create parameter Country, State, City and Status in both main report and detail report. Set both Available Value and Default Value get values from query (Create a dataset for each parameter, use "select distinct [column] from [table]" as query). Set allow
multiple values for parameter Country, State and City in both reports.
    2. In corresponding textbox, pass appropriate parameters in go to report Action.
    4. Filter data in detail report (in where clause or using filters).
    5. Save and preview. It looks like below:

    Hi Bitia,
As per my understanding, after you add Item field to the report, it does not calculate total of matl group, right? If that is the case, please refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the problem:
Modify the dataset used to retrieve data, delete the fields will not be used in the report.
Run the query in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to make sure that there is data for matl cost group.
Make sure that row group and totals are correctly added.
In addition, do you want to add Finished date to page header? If that is the case, we can use ReportItem to achieve the goal. Please refer to the following steps:
In design surface, right-click the report and click Insert, then click Page Header.
Drag Text Box from Toolbox to page header.
Right-click inside of Text Box, then click Expression.
In the expression text box, type the code like below:
    =ReportItems!FinishedDate.Value
If the problem remain unresolved, please provide the screenshot of the report in design view, the following screenshot is for your reference:

    Hi Dave0323,
According to your description, you want to export your report into TXT file and change the delimiter to be a Tab. Right?
In Reporting Services, when exporting to a CSV file, we can change the default field delimiter to any character that we want, including TAB, by changing the device information settings in the configuration file. For example, to use TAB,
update the FieldDelimiter setting to <FieldDelimiter xml:space="preserve">[TAB]</FieldDelimiter>. And we can change the FileExtension to be TXT if we want to export it into a TXT file. So in this scenario, we just need to modify the configuration
    file like below:

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 use parameters for sorting purposes

I know that the tablix and the detail rows of a report have a sort option. I want to be able to connect, the sort parameter values with the tablix sort. I have seen on the internet where each sort parameter value can be represented with a number value.
I don't  care what is easier, I want to do what the user is requesting. Thus can you show me code on how to accomplish this goal?
Ok. I just gave you a better option
If you still want it to be based on parameters you can add one more parameter to your report called SortBy with values of your fields. Then inside sor expresson for your tablix use an expression like
    =Fields(Parameters!SortOrder.Value).Value
and it will automtically sort based on field you choose from parameter
Only thing you need to make sure is that values given for SortBy parameter combo should be exactly same as your field names used in your report dataset.

  • SSRS 2008 Gauge ToolTips - expression does not work?

    Hi,
I'm attempting to use various SSRS 2008 gauges in a report.  When I attempt to use an expression in a tooltip such as '=Sum(Fields!ID.Value)' , the tooltip does not show up.
However if I replace that expression with a static value such as '1' it pops up.
It seems that an expression should work?  Any reason that it would not?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I could reproduce the scenario you posted.
It is caused that string type is required for the
ToolTip property of the Gauge Pointer. So, please change the expression to
    =CStr(Sum(Fields!ID.Value)).
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

  • Ssrs 2008 r2 textbox expression

In an SSRS 2008 R2 existing report, I wouuld like a particular textbox to look like the following when there is data:
    Checking:    $57.35
In the same textbox when there is no amount, the textbox would look like the following:
    Checking:    $0.00
The following iif statement gets the dollar amount want to display:
    =IIF(Fields!PaymentType.Value="Checking", sum(cdec(Fields!TransactionAmount.Value)),0)
However I would like to know how to write an iif statement that would include the  wording
"Checking: " with the dollar amont that needs to be displayed.
I have tried concatentations that I can think of, but when the report runs, I get the #error in the location
I would like to see the wording "Checking:' with the dollar amount.
Thus can you show me an expression that would solve my problem?

    Hi,
I think you have a field "Fields!TransactionAmount.Value" which have amount and you want to display it with word "checking" so for this you need to use IIF function as:
    =IIF(Fields!PaymentType.Value="Checking", "Checking: "+str(sum(cdec(Fields!TransactionAmount.Value))),
    "Others: "+str(sum(cdec(Fields!TransactionAmount.Value))))
    I hope this will work.
    Thanks
