Stabilising severla parts of a movie

I have a clip that is 15 secs long and the camera was subject to some vibration during the take. The building in the background of the shot moves around slightly but different parts move at different times in different ways, Can I lock 4 separate sections of a clip by defining 4 points that I want to stay stationary on the screen to take our this strange judder? I understand how to lock a part of the image to ONE point, but can I make the programme 'distort the image in different ways all at the same time by having 4 locked pionts?

cut the clip into different sections and apply separate stabilise behaviours to each. Then you can work on each one independently, and save on rendering time.

I believe this is correct. Although I haven't had the need for Compressor yet (therefore haven't bought it yet), as far as I can tell and have heard, you export the entire thing into Compressor at which point you can mark in and out points for the compression and export of your final product. It can't be done in FCPX alone, unless you duplicate your project and delete chunks of it to export only the parts you want.

"Movie Magic" with Stills and Dissolve
When you 'prep' your stills in any 'picture app', you can do a lot of marvel by simply applying dissolves.
In your case, I would create a white document (in Pixelmator, Keynote, Photshop, online at pixlr.com, whatever ...) and another with your logo (and further more ones with additional logos). Drag the jpgs into your iMovie Project and apply dissolves - tadahh! - logos appear on white.

Export or Share part of your movie

So in FCP X you can not mark an IN and OUT in your timeline and export part of your movie? What is the deal with that?
any ideas or suggestions on going around that, I need to brake the movie into parts and export them, do I need to bring it into FCP 7

Finished DVD plays (shows) complete green screen instead of movie for part of the movie

In Premiere CS4 the movie I made plays fine. In Encore timeline the movie plays fine. Yet when the DVD is burned and then played, part of the movie just shows up as completely green on the screen and then it will stop and the rest of the movie will play fine for a while and then the screen will go all green again. Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

How can I cut off part of a movie in DVD Studio Pro created in Quicktime?

I created a project in iMovie, then exported it to a Quicktime file to import into DVD Studio Pro. Now that I have imported it to DVD Studio Pro, it is too big to burn onto 1 disc. I would like to be able to chop off a few minutes of the movie in DVD Studio Pro, but Im not sure how to do it. I am assuming there is some way to chop off part of a movie in the Track editor - can anyone please help with this?

Yes, you can trim a track, but it is a rudimentary control, and not frame accurate.
I think Hal has oversimplified: the process is frame accurate - it is just that your choice of edit points is limited to 'I frames' only. 'I frames' occur about every 12 frames, or 1/2 second, for a typical PAL mpeg2 video track, and every 15 frames, or 1/2 second, for a typical NTSC mpeg2 video track.

Using themes in only part of a movie

Is it possible to only use a theme in part of a movie? I have some old photographs and I want to use the 'photo album' theme. But I want to incorporate other things in my movie as well. Things that don't relate to the photos, but will be video clips from other sources as well as various titles.

Yes, go to File/Project Properties/General tab and set the theme you want, but uncheck "automatically add titles and transitions".
Then you have total control over the Theme elements you use and when the transitions are applied by dragging them in only when you want them.

Having trouble selecting part of a movie

hi,
have just upgraded to qt pro.
am trying to select part of an existing movie (a .mpg in this case),
in order do some editing.
i can't get the selection in and out indicators to show up in the
player window in order to do the selection.
i followed help instructions re unchecking the 'hide selection
indicators for empty selection.'
but doesn't help.
can anyone give us any help please...

QT Pro is working normally here. Multiplexed compression formats like MPG (MPEG-1) are "playback only" supported by the QT structure. They cannot be edited or converted (and retain audio). If you wish to select a portion of such files, use the free MPEG Streamclip application. Selected content can then either be saved using the "Save As..." option or converted to a fully supported compression format (and retain audio).

When I try to move an object in Illustrator CS3 only part of it moves, so the object "stretches".

This doesnt always happen, but I cant figure out what I do differently when I am able to move the object successfully. Obviously these are multipart objects. My workaround is to copy the object an paste it...then most times it moves correctly.

Obviously you're not 'capturing' all the anchor points... so, you're getting only part and not the entire object. Use the black arrow to select.... you'll get the whole object... then drag or use the Transform tool to move it.

2 Part Question : Stop movie animation/Load movie animation

Okay I am a VBA guy and taking on a project in Flash. So 72
hours into it I am going nuts on a simple problem = P. I read a

the FLA and really see the inner workings. However. When I mouse
over I want the move to play but not loop. I can't get it to stop.
I want my button to go from black to alpha 20% and stay on mouse
out, 20% alpha - black. That code on the site makes it loop, which
is very unappealing. (Also in the FLA they use grouped graphics,
what the advantage to that?)
So second part. In my button I would like the "down" to
enable another .swf to open and play on the other half of my page
setup. Am I coding onpress() on the down part of the button or
elsewhere in the FLA.
I wanted to attack my fla file but i guess you can't.

like i said, completely take out your button now.. then place
a black rectangle on stage with whatever text you want the button
to say on top of it, then select both and create new Movie Clip..
on frame 1 insert stop();.. on frame lets say 10 (can be whatever)
make keyframe, and make the the assets 20% alpha, also put a

now back to the main timeline, click your new Movie Clip,
give it instance name of whatever ex: my_mc..
now place this code on the main time line on a keyframe, not
on the movie clip, on a keyframe, my guess is it will be frame one.

Create a GarageBand iPod project. Drop your completed iMovie '08 project file to the GarageBand iPod/Movie track and confirm replacement. Double-click on movie track to open the chaptering window. Add chapter markers by moving the playhead to a point you want to chapter and "insert" the marker. When done, share/export the project to/for desired purpose.

Purple shadow to add titles appear only at part of the movie.

I want to Drag & Drop a title over a video (like a subtitle). But only the bottom part of the clip shows the purple shadow which allows me to drop the clip. So I have to first drop it there and then move it to the other part. This is really strange?
This is from the documentation: "As the title hovers over the video,
a purple shadow appears, representing the frames that the title will cover."
Any advice would be great!

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

Apply effect to selected part of the movie

Hi, thanks for your answer. I think I do as you say.
I mark the I and O points. It is highlighted. I dropped the effect on the timeline or on the clip but it affects to all the movie.
I can not see any way to apply it only to the highlighted section. Maybe I'm doing something wrong??? or did I miss anything????
