Stability crash of Lightroom 4.4?

I'm trying to update my library with the 500px plug-in. When I click publish, it takes a long time to upload a picture. When it finishes uploading, a system error comes up. It actually doesn’t specify exactly wich error, but it looks like an stability crash of Lightroom 4.4. Do you know what can I do to solve this situation ?
Thank you in advance
All these product pictures are developed with Lightroom and retouched with photoshop : http://www.elsitar.com
( it’s my business site )

Just downloaded and installed the 500px plugin for Lightroom. I'm using LR4.4 on mac 10.8 and I was able to upload an image without issue. There are a number of things to try to get to the root of the problem (but that root does not appear to be Lightroom itself). First, I see the 500px plugin was updated at the beginning of the year, make sure you have the latest version. If you have the newest build, try disabling and re-enabling the plug-in from the Plug-in Manager. Additionally, try creating a new catalog, importing a single image and then upload from there.

    Hi All
My computer crashed with lightroom open, since restart I get a msg 'LR encounted an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit'
    I'd appreciate any suggestions
    Many thanks

Many thanks for your help, at lease the LR is working now. How do I rebuild previews and smart previews or will this happen automatically?
    Many thanks

Lightroom 4.4 keeps crashing saying "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" please help. I've tried reinstalling it and everything  Windows 8.1

I assume you know where your catalogue file (the lrcat file) is located. In the same folder is a previews lrdata folder which you should delete or rename in Explorer, then start LR again.
If I've made incorrect assumptions above, sorry, and we'll go back over it from the start.

  • Computer crashed after Lightroom 4 Installation

I purchased the Lightroom 4 upgrade online from Adobe a couple of days ago and installed it on my laptop.  The software seemed to be working at first, but a few hours later, my computer crashed.  Upon reboot, my computer would crash again shortly thereafter (LR was open on my computer but minimized).  Now my laptop will not turn on at all.  I'm using an HP Pavilion m7-1015dx laptop with Windows 7.  I just purchased this laptop last fall and have had NO issues with it until I installed the Lightroom 4 upgrade.  My Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS4 software had been working fine as well up to that point.  Obviously I have to take my computer in to get it fixed, but I am not sure that I am willing to try to install this software again and rish another crash.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yiour reaction is basically the same as refusing to give somebody a ride in your car because someone ran into you last time you gave them a ride. The person did not cause the crash, and Lightroom cannot prevent your hardware from booting.
If your computer only crashed every time you tried to start Lightroom then that would be food for thought, even then it could be a memory DIMM going bad, because LR can be more memory intensive than many other apps. But you are apparently experiencing hardware failure. It happens occasionally, even with the best hardware. How far do you get in the boot process before it crashes, and how is the crash manifested?

  • Finder is still crashing with Lightroom 1.3 and Mac OS X 10.5.1

The problem reported with Lightroom 1.2 and Mac OS X 10.5 (Finder crashes when trying to read a JPG whose metadata contain some Lightroom specific development settings) is still present with both updates... Any hope Adobe would provide us with a way to fix existing pictures/metadata?

The Lightroom XMP data for snapshots, which is totally valid XMP data makes Leopard barf because Apple's implementation of XMP in Leopard is not capable of parsing the snapshot XMP. This is most totally Apple's fault...and only Apple can fix it...
The Photoshop CS3 & Leopard issue with text entry in certain tools is another Apple Leopard fault that Apple will need to fix...
There is also an issue with Epson print drivers running under Leopard and Lightroom 1.3 where printing is not picking up the correct data and print come out light...the same drivers will work with CS3 because CS3 is using the older, none Leopard pipeline. Also note that CS3 will NOT be able to print out using the Leopard 16 bit pipeline while Lightroom 1.3 will be able to...as soon as Epson revs their drivers...
Look, Leopard has introduced MAJOR changes well above and beyond the marketing features Apple promotes....eveybody is scrambling...but to Adobe's credit, they HAVE responded well and quickly to those issues Adobe can fix. Those Adobe CAN'T fix will have to be fixed by the companies responsible....

  • Switching to Develop module causes crash in Lightroom 4.2

I recently updated Lighroom 4.1 to 4.2 successfuly, but now any time I go into the Develop module, Lightroom pauses, then crashes and forces me to quite the program.  Is this a bug than needs to be ironed out, or is there something else going on?

That shouldn't happen. You probably have a corrupted file in the camera raw cache. Go to Lightroom's preferences->File handling and hit "purge cache".

One of the potential hazards of non-destructive editing via a data base is, if it breaks; until it is fixed you no longer have any access to years of work.
There have been several threads pertaining to LR 1.4.1 crashes, even the specific kind that I am having, but I have not yet seen a reply that helps solve the problem.
    I get an:

    Help, please.

    Kevin - Two Issues:
    1) When I looked at Reg Cure, they would not give you access to the cost until you ran the free scan and then they tell you that it will cost $29.99 to fix the problem that they found. This turned me off and I did not proceed with that as my fix
    2) What I did was follow the link in the post below and reinstall 1.3.1 With ver. 2 in beta and not having a needing any new raw camera support that came with 1.4, this seemed like a good ,get by fix, until LR 2 is available.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b4affd
This incident did give me cause to re-evaluate my back up strategy. I will be creating final TIFF copies of all prints and other final images so I am not ever dependent on LR for access to them in an emergency.
I still would hope that someone at adobe would reply with an explanation of this problem if not an actual fix.

  • Every time I try to upload an image to watermarks lightroom crashes

I have been trying to load an image for my watermark.  It seems any image I try to load, regardless of the type png/jpeg/, it crashes my lightroom.  I am running lightroom 5 for PC and have had all the recent updates.  Would anyone have any ideas why?

With that type of description of the problem, get set for some really funny responses.

  • Why is deleting preferences neccessary to prevent crashes?

Granted, I am relatively new to using Lightroom. I participated in the LR2 beta, provided suggestions in the adobe labs forum and am currently using the trail version of LR2. While reading a message in this forum, several comments were made regarding the deletion of preferences while trying to figure out why the persons machine kept freezing up on him. Could someone please explain why deleting preferences is necessary, and provide what steps to take to do so.
So far, LR2 is working great and I look forward to using it. I would just like to know if I need to delete preferences before I run into trouble.
Thanks, in advance, for your responses.
    Regards, JML

The presences trashing is a troubleshooting step if you are having severe stability issues. Lightroom should _NOT_ be crashing on a regular basis, but if it DOES crash, the odds are pretty good the preferences can become corrupted by the crash (or that the crash might be caused by corrupted preferences). So, this is a very specific step to take if you have or are crashing. Not something you need to do on a regular basis.
As for how to troubleshoot crashes and hangs,, it depends on you OS. Check the FAQS, in particular
Troubleshoot system errors or freezes in Photoshop Lightroom. It deals with Lightroom 1.x but the locations of the preferences are the samejust substitute Lightroom 2 for the original Lightroom name of the prefs.

  • Odd crash behaviour

A crash I haven't seen before. I did a Save As and InDesign crashed.
I restarted it and it couldn't find the file it had just saved for automatic recovery.
The file was listed in Explorer as bpr200803.in87215449203
I tried an Open With from Explorer and CS3 wasn't listed - although it was open at the time, so that may be the cause there.
I dragged the crashed file into the InDesign window and it opened perfectly. I could then Save As the correct file name.
I pushed it out through INX and after 15 minutes of being on the verge of completing a reopen I ended InDesign through
    Task Manager.
A second attempt at opening the INX file seems to have been successful.

    1. It's possible that the settings may be in the catalog. Normally I'd recommend sending them into one of the engineers, but I believe he is off for 2 weeks now.
    2. In order to prevent Lightroom grinding to a halt to write every instruction as you tweak, XMP is written during idle time. If you were working constantly, then it may not have all been written when the crash happened.
    3. Yes.
    4. I've no definite answer for this. A crash while Lightroom is writing to the Preferences file could corrupt it. If you want, you could potentially copy a working version and when the preferences corrupt, replace them with the copy. I've never heard of anyone doing that though.

  • Lightroom catalog maintenance question.

The Lightroom catalog is a convenient feature that allows changes to photographs without making changes to the original picture.
I have had problems when I have to reorganize folders and files in Windows. If I rename a folder in Windows I damage the path to the pictures and I lose the Lightroom catalog.
I have a very dynamic set of image files that have to be created and filed away (deleted) very frequently and the stability of the Lightroom catalog seems to be in the way. Maintenance of the Catalog feels like an extra burden.
What is the best way to repair (modify) the Catalog links to the Windows files when they have been deleted or renamed?
    Thanks in advance.

Most people don't delete photos once imported into LR, and everything works very smoothly. Once the photo is imported, leave it in Lightroom. Saves you some work.
Furthermore, the idea of importing the photos to a certain location, working with the photos and then moving the photos somewhere else might make sense in your operating system, but in Lightroom this is an extra step with no obvious benefits (in my opinion). Better would be to import the photos to their destination, and not perform the two-step Move to Folder A followed by Move to Folder B.
By the way, I hope you understand that if you delete photos from Lightroom (but not from your hard disk), your edits may not stay with the actual photos. By default, the edits and other metadata are not stored with the photo files.
And as John said, an organization scheme that uses keywords and other metadata will be far superior in the long-run than moving photos from folder to folder and location to location.

  • Lightroom 2 in Windows 7 (64 bit)

Since upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, I've had terrible problems with crashes in Lightroom.  This generally happens on file import or any function that moves photos from one location to another.  The crash slows the computer down enormously and then eventually the system hangs and requires a hard reboot.
Updating bios and graphic card drivers (several times) did not help.  None of the typical tricks (deleting settings files, reinstalling under new account, etc) have helped either.  Since version 2.6 was released, the problem is much worse, crashing nearly every time I use LR.
Otherwise this is a very stable computer (core 2 duo, 4 gb RAM, etc).  It does not crash running any other program, including Photoshop.
Support was no help at all.  After exchanging several messages where they made suggestions already in the knowledge base, they responded and said Lightroom 2 was not compatible with Windows 7 and closed the case..!!!  This despite the fact that Adobe's own website lists Win7 compatibility under requirement specs.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I am running LR 2.6 and as of yesterday can't start lightroom. I've tried creating a new catalog as well as checking the current one for errors. the app crashes as soon as it starts. From what I've read I start the app w "cntrl" O to get the option. No luck.
