Stability issue with ym Satellite C650

I bought my laptop around 4 months ago. It will be ok for a few days and then becomes extremely slow and non responsive. I have used the inbuilt restore to factory settings option (holding 0 before turning the laptop) over 12 times now.. and i still have the same issue. My laptop is supposed to be a 64bit, but i have tried putting it as a 32bit to see if it would correct the problem and it obviously hasn't. I have tried to disable a lot of windows functions to speed up my laptop, even disabling start up programs and nothing seems to work. Please help

Hi Russ
After reading your posting I would like to be near you and see what are you doing exactly and what is your problem/problems.
I saw Satellite C650 by my local dealer and it seems to be very nice machine so Im really surprised you have such problems with brightness settings.
>... for some reason the text within the panel has blank fonts displayed as oblong squares
Can you please make screenshot? I would like to see how it looks like.
By the way: in my opinion, by default settings, brightness, contrast, colour, gamma and all other settings are optimized and set to perfect level so Im wondering you want to change anything.
Only what can be done is to change brightness intensity and it can be done with FN+F6/F7 key combination.
Is this not enough for you?

  • Hard Disk issue with Toshiba Satellite P755-S5390

Well, I'm at my wit's end on this one so after several months of searching for an answer I'm presenting this one to my fellow Toshiba users.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P755  that I purchased around March of 2012 so it is well out of warranty unfortunately. I'm having an odd issue that could just be a faulty hard drive but I wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas that might lead this to be a recurring issue with other Toshibas.
The first symptoms my laptop experienced were the computer locking up and the hard drive light staying lit constantly. This first happened right after I was using WIn 7 disk management to shrink the main partition so I could create a second partition. The exact step this happened at was when I had already shrunk the main partition and had just finished creating the second partition. It hadn't even refreshed the disk management screen when it just locked up completely.
I left it locked up for almost a half hour and then did a forced shutdown and when it came back up it was really slow and the hard drive light was staying lit constantly. Eventually it wouldn't even start up and the drive light still stayed on constantly (not even blinking, just solid on).
My first thought was obviously hard disk failure so I grabbed a spare that should have worked perfectly as it was just harvested from a perfectly fine little netbook. I popped the drive in and reinstalled Win 7 and it worked fine...for a few weeks. Then it did the exact same thing except this time it eventually just wouldn't recognize any boot media. I cursed my bad luck in having two failed hard drives and used an older one that I had spare that, as I recall, worked fine when I harvested it from the old laptop it came out of. It worked again...for a couple of days. Then it did the same thing as the first (hard drive light staying lit, not responding hardly at all). I even hooked all these little laptop hard drives up to my file servers SATA ports and they loaded fine and I was able to back stuff up.
My dilemma here is that I know it could just be that I was using old hard drives and maybe by some chance they all failed because they were old but I'd hate to buy a new hard drive if that's not the problem.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas? I even tried testing the RAM and even removing one module at a time. I also tried pulling the battery and running it straight from the charger thinking maybe it was shorting something out.
As an additional note. One interesting thing that happened after the third drive went bad was that I plugged in the original hard drive thinking I could further troubleshoot and it worked perfectly fine for about a month. It then proceeded to do the same thing again. That's about where I am now. The only other thing I did was yesterday when I pulled the battery and tried it. It did respond very well for at least long enough to almost finish the reinstall to factory partitions but it failed at the last minute and rebooted. It then loaded the Windows startup screen and locked up with the hard drive light staying lit solid.
Sorry for the novel but I wanted to make sure all my troubleshooting steps were documented so no one suggested those. My last step is to pop in another used drive and install Ubuntu and see what happens then.
    Solved!

How did you reinstall Win 7 on the replacement drive?  Did you use the the Toshiba Recovery Disks you should have created as per the directions on page 74 of your User's Guide, following the recovery directions on page 76, and return your unit to its factory default out-of-the-box setup? What happens if you return your unit to its factory default set up? This is considered the gold standard test on whether you have a hardware problem/failure, as opposed to a driver-software-conflict problem.
You seem quite familiar with Windows Disk Management software, yet you don't mention running the built in disk 'Error-checking' utility.
If you believe you may be suffering from some kind of hard drive problems, this would seem a logical step. You can access this utility by clicking on 'Start' -> click on 'Computer' -> right click on 'C:' drive -> click on 'Properties' -> click on the 'Tools' tab -> under 'Error-checking' click the 'Check now...' button -> put check marks on both the 'Automatically fix....' and 'Scan for...' options -> click the 'Start' button. The utility will inform you it can't be run now and ask if you want to schedule for the next restart, agree and restart your computer. Depending on the size of your hard drive and the problems the utility may encounter this could take from 20 minutes to several hours.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Issues with my Satellite L500

hi everyone, i currently have a toshiba satellite L500, running windows 7, 3 gb ram 350gb hdd..
it was running fine until a fortnight ago, when my computor kept popping up message in the far bottom right hand corner saying windows error, critical error, youre hdd is missing, missing RAM etc etc, a window popped up telling me to do a system scan which i did and it came up with all these very bad errors.. it them popped up a program calle dmemory optimizer and told me to scan and do a defrag.. which i did.. and then teh next thingi knew, the hdd had disapeared from my computor, i couldnt access anything on the desktop, but could tab between the pages i already had open. then teh whole thing crashed.
i did a recovery on my own, and the error appeared to be fixed.. but then would only work properly in safe mode. so i took it to a repairer who charged me $188, reformatt teh whole drive, put on a copy of kapersky and office full version..
the day after getting it home, i noticed when i was typing things, the cursor would move about the page on its own, and id end up typing in the middle of what id already typed, sooo frustrating!! so the tech man suggested i download a program called touchfreeze.. and it fixed it..
now the last day or two, ill be in the middle of working on my laptop and it will just go to a black screen.. and it will resume when i press the mousepad, or it will completely turn off and go into sleep mode..
theres no settings on for sleep or hybernate, so sort of screen saver nothing.. and like i said, it happens when the laptos in use, about every 15 mins and happens several times.. any idea on what could eb the issue??
i could swear there were other issues with my laptop and he just said it was a virus..

Hey man you bomb us with all these issues and your last issue is pretty confusing.
Before we start discussion tell me one: do you use Toshiba recovery image (original operating system you got with your notebook)?

  • Issues with Toshiba Satellites and Western Digital WDC HDDs

As much as I want to thank Jerry Lippey for helping me several times with issues regarding my boyfriend's A665-S6095 laptop, I am DONE with Toshiba.
For the FOURTH or FIFTH time now (it's so bad I've lost count) this satellite has crashed while using a WDC Scorpio Black HDD. I have gone through FOUR HHDs in the last year and a half. I am not joking. NO ONE has time to diagnose and solve this many computer issues in such a short amount of time unless they are a paid techinician.
The last time the HDD failed I tried to get WDC to send me the non-AFT drive that I had bought, but they told me that the BEKT version of the BPKT I bought was "not in stock". For almost a month. And yet it came back in stock on Amazon and one or two other stores online. So when I called back to say WHAT THE HELL, instead of asking me what I wanted them to do, they just decided to send me a larger drive with AFT, as if that would soothe my aggravation.
But honestly, I don't see how this can all be WDC's fault. I mean, if you compare the number of forum posts referencing satellite versus non-satellite models, there is no way that number is proportionally equal to the number of satellite versus non-satellite models sold. I wish I had known how terrible Toshiba is before he bought the laptop, or my mother bought my brother a different satellite model. I'd have told each to shoot themselves in the foot instead.
My boyfriend was trying to copy pictures from his Galaxy Note II onto his laptop, but when he plugged the phone in by a usb/micro usb cord and opened windows explorer, the computer froze.
I shut it down manually, and since then it has not been able to boot at all. BIOS recognizes the drive make and model, but nothing will load; the screen goes black after the Toshiba welcome screen and nothing happens. I tried booting from both a win7 recovery disc and the 1st Toshiba recovery disc I made with the laptop; the former won't load at all and the latter goes through the "windows is loading files" progress bar, then the "microsoft windows" progress bar, brings up the cursor and stops doing anything. I can move the mouse, but the light on the HDD indicator illuminates for about 5 seconds then shuts off for less than a second, over and over. For a fraction of a second I can see an error code reading something like "No Emulation Type 00" before the recovery cd loads. I don't know what that means exactly.
If I hadn't had previous issues with Toshiba TVAP software having compatibility issues with Windows, or if the laptop would freeze part way through installing windows updates I wouldn't have trouble blaming only WDC. But clearly Toshiba has major issues (at least) with Satellites, and except for the one person on this forum who knows what he is talking about - and let's be serious, we can't blame him for not being able to answer EVERYTHING posted on here - their tech support $^(($ B@!!$. Just like their products.
The fact that the only answer I've found is to only replace Toshiba HDDs with OEM HDDs is complete bull.
Sure, it is possible that the way the laptop is used causes some of the issues I've had, but FOUR HDDs? Really? What else in a laptop can go bad that could possibly help to kill off the drive? What else could possibly contribute to the agony I have to go through to keep this laptop running?
Time to go back to work, now that I've spent over an hour trouble-shooting and writing this rant.

Hi I'm fairly new to the forum. I'm sure Jerry will have a reply for you. 4 failed HD's is unreal. I 'm sure you know why HD's fail. I know you are very aggravated, but I would just like to ask a couple of questions. How are you testing these failed HD's. Seatools has two great free programs seatools for windows and seatools dos. Also I'm very curious about your Anti-Virus program. Viruses are really getting tough, and can wipe out your HD in seconds. If your OS gets corrupted, windows will no longer boot. I'm going to post some things that I'm sure you already know. I also would like to know how your boy friend uses his lap top. I live in a retirement village and I fix computers for free. I have see some really bad stuff. I have had to restore a couple back to factory because they were so badly infected. Power surges can really do a number on a HD. I'm going to post the link to a bootable seatools dos. It will be a ISP file and you will need to burn it to a cd. Test your drive and see what happens. I'm sure Jerry will have a comment for you. He's pretty smart.

    Why do hard disks fail?
Because hard disks are mechanical devices, they are subject to wearing out, even if you treat them better than your own children. Around 60% of hard drive failures occur through predictable mechanical failure, with the remaining 40% of failures occurring through misuse. Hard disk failure might occur if any of the following happens:
    Your computer is bumped or jostled while it is running;
    The electric motor which allows the platter to spin fails due to bad bearings or other components;
    The filter on your air intake gets too clogged or the filter isn't working properly;
    Extreme heat while running causes the electronic circuit board to fail;
There is a sudden power failure while the disk is writing.
    Types of hard drive failure
There are two main types of hard drive failure - physical and logical.
Physical failures are often due to a failure of the electric motor or the drive itself - the moving parts. They can also happen because of a major head crash (caused by your computer being dropped or jostled while it's running).
Logical failures come from corruption in the file system. If you've accidentally deleted an important registry entry or formatted the drive improperly, or if you have a nasty virus, hard drive problems will occur. The BIOS will recognize the drive, but it won't boot.
I Love my Satellite L775D-S7222 Laptop. Some days you're the windshield, Some days you're the bug. The Computer world is crazy. If you have answers to computer problems, pass them forward.

  • Performance / stability issues with BDB 3.3.62 while checkpointing

    Hi,
first of all: we use BDB 3.2 for more than a year within our application and we never had any performance or stability issues. Now we are about to release a new version of our software with BDB 3.3 and we found some problems during our release tests.
This is the situation: we have implemented some cleanup routines that make very heavy use of the BDB environment. The common usage pattern is to scan the database (about 300GB with >> 100 million items) and than delete a lot of items from the database. The first versions of our cleanup routine worked without any problem but during performance tuning of our code we suddenly and reproducible encountered segmentation faults in the com.sleepycat.je.recovery.Checkpointer thread. We analysed more that 10 VM crashes and ALL crashes were related to Checkpointer thread. (Linux 64 bit, JDK 1.5.0_013 / 1.6.0_06)
After we removed our performance tuning (only application logic – nothing BDB-related) the VM crashes disappeared – so it looks like some kind of problem which only occurs under high load conditions. Next thing we tried was enabling our performance tuning and setting Ceckpointer configuration to default (write a checkpoint after 20MB) before that we used time based checkpointing with 60 sec interval.
With Default Checkpointer configuration there were no VM-crashes but performance was very slow!
Finally my question: What Checkpointer configuration would you recommend for an environment that is under very high load with regard to delete operations? Would you recommend using “high priority Checkpointing”? Would you recommend time- or data-based checkpointing?
It looks like Checkpointing every 60 seconds was not a good idea but 20MB seems to be too slow.
This leads to another question: What does a longer Checkpointing interval mean for recovery time? Does recovery take substantially longer if checkpointing is done less fequently?
Any help would be very much apprechiated.

  • Strange issue with my Satellite A200

    Hello,
I have a problem with my Satellite A200-1DY.
In last two days this issue occurs two times. When I start the laptop there are only three icons in systray, speaker, battery and network icon, then, the laptop stops and doesn't work. I can not use the mouse, or keyboard and the fan cooler doesn't work.
When I put my hand over the area where there the processor is placed it is pretty warm. I can't reset the laptop. At first I must disconnect it from the electricity. After doing this I can start the laptop again. The fan cooler starts running very fast and it removes much heat from the processor area.
    What can I do?
Sorry for my horrible English and marry Christmas.

    Hello
At first I must say that your English is very good and understandable. Now after this compliment get back to described issue. ;)
I have Satellite A200 too and I have installed Vista and WXP several times and have never noticed similar issue. I must say that all my tests were with clean preinstalled operating system.
In your case, it is not easy to say why this happen but fact is that some process must be loaded and at this point notebook blocks. Usually if you keep down power button for about 5 seconds he notebook should be switched OFF.
You must understand that nobody of us knows what your personal OS configuration is and if there is some application you have installed last days. Exact some application that runs in the background can not be loaded properly and notebook blocks.
What to do? You can enter MSCONFIG and check all entries in Systemstart. Try to disable all stuff you do not need and test it again. Maybe you will be lucky and find out if there is something that blocks notebook startup.
Sorry but it is really not possible to say why this happen. If you want you can try to roll back OS to earlier time before this starts in hope the OS will runs as before.
    Bye and good luck!

  • 570 GTX Twin Frozr II OC - Stability issues with newest drivers

    Hi there,
Been noticing lately that i've come across a nasty 280.26 Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding issue with my 570 SLI.
Some people running the 280.26 drivers have also reported, while others have said increasing voltage has fixed their problem.
Could I get some support in finding out how/what to set my voltages too?
The cards are 570 GTX Twin Frozr II OCs. I did get a bios update earlier in the year after some problems, they were clocked at the wrong speed. (786mh instead of 750mhz)
GPU-Z shows im running bios 70.10.17.00.03
    Is there a newer one?
    Thanks

You say the voltage range is upto 1.25mv , but how can a game be unstable but not make use of the 1.25mV barrier? Who is responsible for using the extra voltage when required?
People state they are increasing their mV to make some DX 11 games stable, but how?
If what your telling me, is that the cards are already set to use an increased voltage, why aren't they doing so?
As you can see, under load.... the higher mV range isn't used so the overclocks on the cards are pointless. The more games which come out that use DX11, the more problems you will get.
If it's down to drivers, someone needs to get onto nVidia from a corporate or business level because they won't respond to the end user, they just blame you guys for everything.

Read again my replies, seems you misread most of the parts

To add to that, I have to set the voltage to 1.00mv in Afterburner and to get Deus Ex HR more stable with the 280.26 drivers.
So what gives? Is it safe to update the bios to 1.00mv somehow?
Why are these problems only getting found out with the 280.26 drivers?
Where does the customer stand here? There's a direct problem with power handling by all parties involved.

Yes it is, you can use my Tool in signature to do this

Hello. Starting about 1 month ago I've been experiencing this issue. I can be just cruising the internet watching youtube video and listening to music then the computer will freeze and this loud screeching sound would come out of my headphones (and scare the crap out of me). This issue never occurred while I was playing any PC games until recently.
Yesterday I was fed up with the issue so I pulled open the case and cleaned every fan out (which I do every couple of weeks). Now the issue seems to be occurring while playing video games or listening to music. All the fans appear to be functioning properly and I don't believe it could be heat related because I have the Antec 1200 case which has 6 case fans. I've run PC Wizard 2009 and SystemFAN while playing some games and none of the temperatures I saw look too extreme.
So I'm suspecting it could be the RAM, soundcard, PSU, or motherboard but could use some more assistance before I start RMAing it.

I'd be inclined to blame the Creative drivers for your sound card first. Try updating (or if necessary, downgrade) the drivers and see if it makes any difference.
I actually pulled out the sound card an hour or so ago and removed the drivers. I'm running on onboard audio and the system just randomly restarted while I was talking to people on Ventrilo.

  • CD ROM Drive Issue with a Satellite A215-S7416

    Hello,
I wonder if someone can please help me. I don't know why this issue is happening with my laptop, but maybe someone else here has had the same thing.
I don't really use my CD ROM drive all that much, but for some strange reason all of a sudden now it seems like it:
    A) DOES read and recognize the material on store-bought pre-recorded CD's (just as it should),
    BUT...
    B) Does NOT read or recognize material on CD's which have been burned by a friend of mine. By the way, the player in my car DOES read the CD material which was burned on my friends system, so I know that something is on those CD's.
    ALSO...
My CD ROM drive no longer seems to give me the option to burn a playlist to a disc. Instead, when I insert a blank CD disc, all I hear is the cycling noise making a continual irritating sound, seemingly forever. It makes this exact same noise when I insert the CD disc that my friend burned for me. But (as already stated) when I insert a store-bought pre-recorded disc, it reads and recoginizes it within 30 seconds, and displays the contents of the CD.
I don't know if this matters, but I just updated to the newest iTunes version (which is the software I use), however I have noticed that WMP is doing the same thing, as well. Additionally, when I ran the iTunes Diagnostics, all that happened was that it just continued doing that ridiculous cyclic thing (with my friend's burned CD). However, when I inserted a store-bought pre-recorded CD, the iTunes Diagnostic worked like a charm.
Does anyone know what's going on, and/or how I can fix this?
    Thank you.
PS --- BTW, my CD/DVD ROM Drive is:
    D: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632H, Rev TO02

Try taking a look at this article.
What can I do if my CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly in Windows 7?
It's also possible that the drive is beginning to fail.

  • "Broken" NICs and General Stability Issues with Neo 4 Platinum

I have a XP Pro SP2 system with a Neo4 Platinum that is behaving very strangely.
I've been getting increasingly frequent bluescreens (mostly low level kernel errors and such) while under moderate to heavy load for the past few weeks. I gave up and reinstalled XP Pro this weekend to try to fix the problem. The errors have continued, and during the install process I noticed several more hardware problems that seem to have slowly been getting worse.
The second (non-nVidia) gigiabit NIC is completely missing, i.e. it does not show up in Windows nor on the integrated peripherals screen in the BIOS. In addition, I do not get a link light when I plug it into a switch. According to the manual and my memory, there should be similar options for the second NIC as I'm currently seeing for the nVidia one in the BIOS.
In addition, the nVidia-based NIC does not function close to properly. Whenever I download a file or do any sort of network activity, the data that I get is corrupted. Zip files and installers that verify downloads report CRC errors and SSH connections/file transfers just plain die, complaining about bad packets.
It doesn't seem to be a heat problem, because, watching the temps in the BIOS after a bluescreen, the CPU is at most 45, and usually less. I don't have any of the overclocking options enabled, just the "optimized defaults" except for disabling the boot splash screen. I've tried BIOS 1.6, 1.8, and 1.9, all of which have the same issues. I have the latest motherboard and graphics drivers.
Anybody here have any idea about what's going on? Thanks in advance.

  • I'm having some issues with my Satellite A660-134

    Hello!
I'm kinda' having some problems with my notebook as mentioned earlier a Toshiba Satellite A660-134. Fyi this is the second one, I returned one (no matter what guarantee). I wanted another one, but still this model because, its ok, it does its job, except some things that unfortunately I can`t oversee. The first one and also the second one did the following:
    # Time to time , no reason what so ever, no overusing, multitasking, without forcing it in any way, gave bluescreen crashed, out of the blue. Just like that. While watching a movie, browsing, just leaving it open, and I was finding it restarted. With this second one after installing the antivirus i thought it stopped. But instead of 3-4 bluescreens a day i have lets say 1-2 a week, but pretty upseting also.
    # Also whithou being overheated, multitasked, or any thing that would require even a litle bit of effort to say so, while I`m watching a movie for example it kind of stucks, freezes, stumbles.. for examble like when its moved a bit sudden and the hdd protector thing moves the hdd head reader..or like when with an older pc you would listen to music and then when you, lets say extract something, it starts interrupting.
Mainly these are my concerns and any piece of advice is welcome. For furter information, ask me. Thank you!
    Kind regards, Dorinel Tanase

It is not easy to offer exact explanation for your problems, especially for blue screens. They can be caused by some software conflict or even by some hardware malfunction.
Sorry but it is not easy to say why this happen.
Can you notice error code and send it to us?
Try to disable HDD protection utility and be sure HDD scan is not running in the background. Such activities can be reason for such interrupts.

  • Having a few issues with my Satellite M105-S3004. Help please!

1)Ok I've had my laptop for about 3 1/2 years. For a few weeks now everytime I turn on my computer I get this message:
    RegSvr32
loadlibrary ("C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\dubstefu.dll") failed-The specified module could not be found
2)I also have been trying to re-install the sims3 and when I put the disc in sometimes it will read and sometimes it won't. When it does begin to install it stops and gives me one of two messages:
    Feature transfer error-I/O device error
    or
    Data error-cyclic redundancy check
Music CDs play, DVDs play, other games work, and the disc works in other computers.
Please Please Please respond if you have any idea what I need to do to fix this. I'm very good at following instructions.

    Satellite M105-S3004
    1) I don't recognize what's trying to load. You can track it down this way. Open the System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe), uncheck all the items on the Startup tab, and reboot. If the message does not appear, then one of the items we have stopped is the culprit. It's a matter of rechecking half the items, rebooting, and so forth.
More (probably too much) about that utility here.
How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state
You can safely ignore the nag message. Check it's Don't show box.
    2) Since you get a CRC error only on this drive, it's probably just slightly misaligned for that particular disc. You should be able to solve it by copying this disc to another blank using the drive in question.
Let's see what the folks over here have to say. You should tell them you have Windows XP.

  • Narrowing down stability issues with NEO2 and PSU

I have been having problems for 1-2 weeks now with my setup and i am very thankfull to this forum for leading me to the point that i am now.  Using Prime95 i think that i have been able to narrow my problem down to PSU being the culprit.
I was initally getting intermittant problems trying to POST (cd drives keep initiallizing) and seemed to solve this by getting my 6800GT a molex connector with nothing else on it.  This was not the solution as i continued to get BSOD's, and general instability.  Memtest off a boot CD was always fine but Prime95 never made it past the 2nd test, usually failing quite quickly.  I then pulled everything but my SATA Raid 0 array off the board and swapped out the 6800GT card with a Radeon 9000.  Prime95 worked!  Tested for 5 hours no problem.  Then i added my floopy,CDDrives,USB devices and now i am fully loaded and Prime95 tests NO PROBLEM.
68000GT appears to push my dual rail 12v PSU over the edge.  My 520 volt OCZ PSU comes on tuesday and i hope that i will finally have a stable kick ass system.
I just wanted to post this for all others to view and comment, as my config is probably a very common one (actually i built it based upon sharky extreme's reccomendation!!  see:   http://www.sharkyextreme.com/guides/MHGSBG/article.php/3415901  - this is exactly my config except for i have the XMS memory and some other add ons)  I am real disapointed with AMD/MSI for not being more forthcoming about PSU requirements, as i have spent a good 10 hours troubleshooting this problem, lost some needed sleep, etc.)

    Well - it is finished.
    My problems are 100% solved!!
I have determined that 2 symptoms existed.  With my current config, i was getting false starts from a cold boot (about 1 in 4).  Over time, i also noticed instability and BSOD's, corruption etc.
Step 1 - this forum - thanks for all the advice
Step 2 - Upgrade power supply.  This ELIMINATED my BSOD's although there was minor stuff happening (event viewer with littered dead bodies, certain programs would not run) but i feel this was a result of running at full load with inadequate PSU
Step 3 - Shame on me for not doing it sooner, but upgrading bios to 1.3 solved the false start problem.  I dont know how, i can only assume some incompatabilty with a piece of hardware i had with 1.2 was causing the problem.
Step 4 - format and reinstall.  I have been working FLAWLESSLY for 3+ days now without 1 crash, false start, or any weirdness whatsover.  My system is purring!
I would like to thank all for your reminders and ideas, as this was the longest 2 weeks for me.  I have never had a problem with a build like this and i was ONE DAY from RMA'ing the board.  I am glad i did not.
Advice to all - 1) purchase an adequate PSU  2) If you have 1.2 bios, dump it!
PS - also, thanks for the reccomendation NOT to install the IDE driver from Nvidia, my CDDrive never really worked right until this latest install and the only difference from the last XP install was that i did NOT install that driver.
    Thanks Again!

  • I'm having stability issues with apps, they keep crashing, even reliable apps like the App store? I've tired restarting my Ipod.

I can't seem to use applications for very long, it seems only mail, settings, and contacts work. Games, the App Store, Safari all keep shutting down to a black scree, then i'm to my home screen.

Try to reset your iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data doing a reset.

  • Stability issues, playback stutters, and occasional crashes with 8.1 update

Hi all, I'm having a bunch of weird stability issues with Premiere CC 8.1 on Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.5. I'm working on a medium sized 1080p project with about 60-80 pieces of media totaling about 60GB. Footage was from a DSLR and was transcoded into prores 422 for editing.
Initially after updating to 8.1 and creating my project I didn't notice any issues but after progressing further in the edit and adding additional video tracks, titles, and a couple small AE comps I've noticed a pretty drastic falloff in performance. I will get occasional crashes and playback is slow to respond. After pressing spacebar or L it'll hang for anywhere from a few seconds to a minute before actually playing back. During playback it'll get caught up and hang and I have to stop playback and wait a bit for things to return to normal. I'm also experiencing performance issues scrubbing through footage in my project bins.
I've tried some basic troubleshooting like cache clearing, preference trashing, video driver updating, and un- and reinstalling to no avail. It'll sometimes work ok but usually displays most of the above issues. I've been using premiere for a bit over a year now and haven't experienced any of these issues on my other older machines, let alone my new MBP. Premiere is usually very snappy and misbehaves rarely.
    Technical bits:
    Premiere CC (2014) v8.1
    15" Retina MacBook Pro
    Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.5
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
    1TB Apple SSD

    Hi Ian,
Is it possible to reinstall your GPU drivers? I have heard that this might be at the heart of this issue. Also, trash preferences. Here is the full list I'm asking Mac folks to try.
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
    Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
    Reboot
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin
