Stability Problems/MSI K7D-L 6501

Note* To other members that have helped so far, I appreciate it a lot*
As I mentioned earlier in a topic, I asked about what values were good for a power supply, now I'm asking for a help with Stability problems. Since I have installed this power supply, I have used MSI's Pc Alert 3 program, Speedfan, and Motherboard Monitor. The problem is as follows.
When I first cold boot, everything seems to be in check, once it begins windows, it complete hangs, and then reboots, byself. Once it reboots, it starts windows 2000 fine. After PC alert starts, say anywhere from 1 to 10 mins, I get error messages in the log for Chassis fan not operational, and it shows ZERO, Same as speedfan, motherboard monitor. Then I get Voltage spikes and drops, Standby, +12v, Battery, CPU VCore to high, to low, etc, ...Motherboard monitor and PC alert also records this too, where speedfan doesn't always catch it. But, also when it shows that the CPU fan's have ZERO RPM's and the Chassis is ZERO, they are all working. Now before I forget, I did have an Enlight 420, but now I have a AGI 400. Big mistake problably, i'm sure to find out. With the Enlight 420, it did show an error for Zero chassis fan, but I also believe that with everything I have running, I am well over Combined VOltage. I did some numbers and I think I should have something that is at least 450 or higher. I used the website http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ just to get an idea, and I didn't know that the xp's can consume up to 62 watts of power, add everything I have and your talking about 439 watts total.
I call the store that I got this power supply from,(Mind you I have only had since the 17th of Sept.) and they think it's hardware. Now my board doesn't show any problems such as bad caps, or etc. The DLED lights are showing everything is fine. They don't belive it is anything to do with the power supply, so I have to wait until they get a bigger wattage in so that I can swap it. Their website says they carry up to 500 and this sad, not to even have the merchandise in and still advertise it. I think that's FALSE ADVERTISING, and is punishable, since they want to charge me a restocking fee
If anybody has any suggestions or ideas, I'm willing to listen because my comp is down and it's bugging me to have all this hardware and money sitting here, and not able to use it.
Thank You,
Heatpipe
PS, Thanks Again to Wonkanoby for time and help, I didn't want him to think I had forgotten.

Well I tried that, and when windows started up the first time, 1/4 of the way and the screen just garbled over, did that for about 10 sec, and then rebooted and loaded windows as i mentioned earlier in the thread. I don't know what else to do really, maybe putthe  Enlight back in and see what that does

  • MSI K7D Problem

I have a vanilla MSI K7D mobo.  I upgraded the cpus today, to a couple MP2400s.  I am running bios ver 1.5, and the cpus are recognized as 2 x MP2400s.  The OS is Windows XP Pro.
The problem is that it doesn't seem to like rebooting or shutting down.  It works fine while you're in Windows but when you do a "Start" ==> "Turn Off Computer" ==> "Restart Computer" or "Turn Off" it exits Windows, the screen turns black and locks up.
You need to turn it off with the ATX switch, wait a few seconds and it'll power back on.  The strange thing is, it seems to run fine in Windows it just won't reboot or shut down properly without the machine locking up.
I heard that there is a bios ver 1.6 which should take care of this problem.  However, I can not find it on MSI's web site.
Anyone have an idea what could be causing this problem?  It ran fine before the upgrade with a pair of MP2000s.

  • Problems with Promise SX6000 and MSI K7D Master

There is a problem with Promise SuperTrack SX6000 controller and motheboard MSI K7D Master.
We use most fresh bios for both products - version 1.5 for motheboard and build 77 for controller.
With previous controller's bios version it can't be initialize and now after initialisation the bios of controller does not show up.
It seems to be like one of problems wich are described in controller's manual, but this problem can't be decided by user's hand, but only new version of bios, we think.
    What you can help ?

    No ways ?

  • MSI K7D Master L - CRC Problem

    Hey gang.
I've been having some CRC troubles with my MSI K7D Master L.  On most occasions, I cannot perform an install from either of the cd drives--eventually a CRC error will pop up.  In addition, data on the hard disks (i.e. registry settings) dissapear or are corrupted.  Which sucks.  ...and you can imagine how my slightly corrupted windows install is performing :(.  ?(
    Here's my specs:
-AMD MB 2800+ Barton (Only one CPU installed right now)
    -1024 mb of Kensington ram
    -ATI 9700 Pro
-Bios Version 1.3 (latest bios for Master L)
    -Enermax 431watt power supply
-Creative Audigy Sound card (onboard sound disabled)
Just for reference, I've ran all the diagnostics (memtest86, and that IBM hard disk checker) and no problems show up.  Only the motherboard and processor are new... all of the components, cables, drives, etc. were working well before I poped in the new MB.  Of course, I started fresh with a clean formatted drive for my windows install.
I've heard that my Enermax 431 is about a 10 on the blows-O-meter.  Could this be the problem?  I realize that my new AMD 2800MP is prolly pulling out a bit more juice than before.
I love this motherboard, and I know that CRC errors are pretty rare on the K7D (cough, unlike some other MBs), I'd hate to have to RMA it.
    Thanks in advance ,
    JonnyLongTorso

Replaced the Enermax 431 supply with an Antec 550 watt unit.  Still getting the errors.
    Any ideas?

  • MSI K7D Master-L & 3ware 7506-4LP boot hang

I recently purchased a 3ware Escalade 7506-4LP RAID Controller (IDE, 4 ports - see product info here) for use with my MSI K7D Master-L (MSI-6501-030 - see product info here) to replace my Promise FastTrak100 TX4. On boot, the system POSTs fine, and then freezes solid at the point at which it should load the BIOS for the 3ware controller. I get nothing but a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner, and a hard reset (CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work) is required to to reset the machine. The diagnostic LEDs on the motherboard indicate it's freezing at the point where it is "Initializing IDE controller".
    What I have tried:
    - Verified BIOS on RAID card was latest version (1.08.00.048)
    - Removed all PCI cards (except for RAID controller and video card)
    - Adding 33 MHz PCI cards to 64/66 PCI slot to slow down bus
    - Tried RAID controller in each PCI slot
    - Flashed the motherboard BIOS to 3 different versions, 1.91, 1.82, and 1.5 (which the motherboard was validated for use with this card on - see here)
    - Tried various BIOS settings (ACPI on/off, PCI Latency, etc)
    - Disabled all onboard devices (sound, ide, fdc, serial, parallel, etc.)
    - Detached all drives from card
    - Tested card in another computer to verify it works - it does.
I have noticed some people on this forum have had similar problems with SCSI or RAID cards:

  • Neo2 platinum Encountering Stability Problems /w dual channel memory

    Hello,
Recently I built my first computer ever, see bottom.  After getting windows installed I then had problems with installing other programs and general stability issues.  I tried reinstalling windows and after the reinstall I got the same problems.
Something to do with the instability is when I start it up, and go into BIOS, it states my Athlon 64 3500+ as running at 2211, a half percent overclock.  Also, even though I have the FSB set as 200mhz, when I go into CoreCenter on windows it states the FSB as being set 201mhz.  In the nVidia system utility, it states my memory as running at 402mhz, and I had to crank that down to 400mhz to get stability, it allowed my to install programs without error, but there were still stability problems like crashes(blue screen, the computer just plain restarting without notice).  I took out one of my memory cards, both of them work alone though, I've ran memory test utilities.  That had a good effect and the computer runs fairly stable, but I still have problems, and I want to be able to take advantage of dual channel.  I'm running my memory on auto and it's using the times of 2-3-3-6-2T.
Another problem I'm experiencing is the AC97 audio not being detected and loaded by windows, it will say I have no audio device, and the speaker will not show up in the notification area in the bottom right-hand corner.  This happens inconsistantly.

which test utilities did you use, Don't quiet understand  Quote
had a good effect and the computer runs fairly stable
    3) It may be worth checking the Mushkin site or any documentation you have to verify that the auto settings agree with the quoted settings for the modules. It's not unkown for errors to occur when the memory controller on the CPU to misinterpret the SPD chip setting on your sticks - this is where the auto settings come from. Some memory like certain corsair modules need to run at different settings on AMD64, thus auto timings must be overidden,
    4) Have you installed the Realtek drivers from the CD, & enabled onboard sound in Bios. When these are done normally there's the MSI Sound Effect manager in control panel. you just need to set your speaker config in the Windows Sounds & Audio Devices.
    5) Usual question What power supply are you using as been underpowered on the 12v rail in particular can be the cause of crashes,

  • MSI K7D Dual AMD PCI Bridge Help

I noticed in the Device Mgr, there is a question mark next to other devices, and below it,  there is an exclamation/question mark next to Other PCI Bridge Device.
What is this Other PCI Bridge Device?  Is there a driver for it or is this a hardware problem?  How do I fix that?

  • Updating my BIOS, have stability problem

    Hi
I have been told on a PC tech forum that my new motherboard may be compatible with this CPU I bought ages ago.

But they said I had to update my bios to 1.2 in order for it to work.

    http://www.msi.coOSindex.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1470
I am new at this and I don't want to damage my PC.
I've been reading about and I think my PC may be unstable and I hear that I shouldn't update because of that.
I occationally have hardware failure crashes (blue screen) and I was hoping that this new processor could change all of that (I have narrowed down the source of the crashes to my hard drive, RAM(maybe) or processor).
It might be the case that my BIOS is already 1.2 and I can skip all of this but I don't know how to check my current version.

    Hi Henry, thanks for responding.
I have changed my sig, hope its alright.
I will give some info on my stability problem. I'm a novice when it comes to pc hardware so sorry if I come off a bit dense.
For a while now I have had the same anoying problem with my PC. HD videos and video games run really slow, it's not that I am unable to play them it's just that my PC struggles and they stutter, even though I have been told that my PC should be able to handle them no problem. And my PC keeps crashing sometimes with and sometimes without a blue screen hardware failure.
Over the last couple years I have been upgrading my PC, I added 3gig of ram, then I got an nVidia 8500, then PSU, motherboard, added another internal hdd but the same problem pursists. The only components I haven't upgraded are my CPU and my original hard drive. Everytime I upgrade, my PC runs a little bit faster, but still not as it should be.
I recently got Win7 from my university and I tried to install it on a partition but everytime I try I get a blue screen (hardware failure)
The weird thing is half the time when my PC crashes, it will crash again but if I'm lucky, if I can restart my PC after I get a bue screen, then my PC will run perfectly fine, HD vidoes work perfectly and so do my games. Usually to get my PC into this state, I need to keep restarting my PC just waiting for it to crash so my PC works properly.
I'm guessing that it's either, my CPU, hard drive or ram(maybe) causing the problem. I have tested each stick of ram individually but it didn't make a difference in my performance so I assume they are both fine (or it's both of them).
right now I'm trying to upgrade my CPU to the
    intel Core 2 Quad
    Freq. 2.50GHz
    FSB 1333MHz
    L2 Cache 4MB
    Core 45nm
    Socket LGA 775
    PCG 05A
    Q8300
But I need to update my BIOS to 1.2 (currently I am 1.1), which I am reluctant to do because I'm worried that my PC will crash.
    Thanks
    Russ

  • Problems MSI GeForceFX 5950 Ultra

    PC specifications:

2x 512mb ram (1024) samsung PC3200 in dual channel mode.
    HD Maxtor ATA133 80GB 7200rpm
    LG CDRW
    Mouse MS blue optical USB
    PS2 PC clone gamepad
    Keyboard and flopydisk
Problem - Some freaking FPS slowdown on any game with any video quality settings (battlefield, farcry, doom3, Wining Eleven 7, Need for Speed Underground, Unreal 2004, Jedi Academy and others).
What I already have checked - I just got my new video card, msi geforcefx 5950 ultra, and i got some minor stability problems. First of all I would like to say that I'm no newbie and I already checked:
    1. I got all lastest bios and drivers: from my MOBO chipset (nforce2) and video card (from the MSI site, not from the nvidia site).
    2. I think it couldn't be any compability problems with my MOBO chipset (it is nvidia too) and video card.
    3. Any thermal problems (I'm very paranoic about that), got 3 fan\exaust on the pc case, and i only use thermaltake coolers/exaust.
    4. My ram memory clock it is set to 333mhz just like my fsb for more stability.
    5. The video card IRQ it is fine.
    6. Bios configuration. I've test my AGP settings with and without AGP Fastwrites and PCI enchant (other bios options u guys have told me to leave as default like agp voltage and clock settings).
    7. My PSU is 500w (422) and the I didn't connect anything on the power line that goes to the card.
    8. I used driver cleaner 3.2 to clean my last msi fx 5200 drivers.
    so here we go...
Question one - I've read all the posts just like mine, and seems that my problem it is with the PC PSU, but my PSU it is 500W, it was pretty cheap   but it is 500W and u guys and the video card manual have told me that the minimum required it is 350w, well the specs of the PSU it is +3.3v 28A, +5V 50A (230W), +12V 18A (216W). I saw in some post that my card would need a 24A on the 12V line, and a 32A would be the real deal for overclocking, is that true? Will I have to buy another one???
Question two - By the way I used to have a msi geforcefx 5200 tdr-128, and when I changed the Video cards I just unistaled the video card drivers, is it enought? Or there is some freaking windows registration of my 5200 driver corrupting my 5950 performance. Will I have to Format my PC???
Question tree - Why when I try to an output video resolution below 640x480 to ANY TV (already tested on 5 TV) with S-video or RCA cables, the video files (divx/xvid...) get all overlapped???
Question fuor - If I change my drivers from de MSI nVidia to the original nvidia, will I get more stability???
So can u guys help me... thanks

1.) You should be ok with 18 amps on the 12v rail, but that is bare minimum!
If you have poor airflow in your case, the power supply's efficiency will drop considerably due to excess heat. The voltages/amps can drop below acceptable levels and cause instability.
2.) It is possible that leftover registry entries and bad keys are crapping up your registry. If it's been a while since you've reformatted and you've installed/uninstalled lots of software since then, it might be something to consider.
However, I reccomend that you dump MSI drivers for the time being, and try the latest Forceware, go here for the latest  nVidia Drivers you can also visit the archive if you'd like an earlier version here http://ftp://download1.nvidia.com/Windows/
Consider this procedure and use at your own risk.
Make sure to have the latest drivers downloaded.
I.) Disable System Restore and then procede to Control Panel and remove the VGA drivers. DO NOT REBOOT
II.)Run driver cleaner (I click the clean button at least twice) NOW REBOOT
III.) Ignore the hardware wizard and go directly to where you have the latest drivers and run the setup.
You may want to consider fresh chipset drivers.
    3.) Not a clue
4.) Possible, but the overall condition of your OS, the process in wich you install drivers, and proper cooling, can have either an isolated or accumulative effect on overall stability of your system.
And Just to let you know, MSI employees don't visit this sight, a simple bump would eventually get someones attention (that's willing and able to answer your questions)

Passed Memtest?  How many times?  If you mean it went through all tests once and passed, that doesn't mean much.  Run test #5 twenty times and test #7 twenty times.  Even then, it's not a guarantee.  I see it supports the RAM, at least that designation.  Unfortunately, we do not know if the same chips that were in the tested RAM, that MSI used, are in the RAM you purchased.  Kingston, OCZ, and others have a habit of changing chip suppliers and NOT changing their RAM designations.  Additionally, the memory controller is in the CPU, not the motherboard, therefore, the issue is between the CPU and the RAM.  Are you using the same CPU that MSI used when testing the RAM.

  • Various 4G / 5G stability problems and now my iPod is USB 1.1 only!

    Hi,
I bought a brand new iPod a week or two ago and it worked fine for one sync. Then the battery was running low (because I'd been using it!) so I plugged it in and iTunes synced automatically and the battery charged. after the sync I hit "eject" in iTunes so that the battery would just charge.
I returned to find that the iPod was still mounted! Very strange. I ejected again..... and it seems that what was happening was when the iPod was ejected it simply rebooted and when it came back up was mounted automatically again!
I ejected and unplugged the iPod and it was no longer stable - I would get to the menu and almost to play a song and it would reset. It seemed like my speed was the limiting factor (i.e. the iPod would only stay up for n seconds), rather than it crashing because I tried a particular function.
I saw this unstable behaviour with my old iPod (4G, firewire on this same machine) too where I had to reflash it to get it working again reliably.
So, I reflash the (new) device with the iPod Updater software downloaded for me by Software Update. It resets, and all seems well, with the rather catastrophic exception that now the iPod is only recognised as a USB 1.1 device according to System Profiler! The transfer speed is very very slow.
This is really a bit of a showstopper for my user experience. I have tried:
    - Resetting my computer
    - Changing the cable (I have two USB2.0 cables and 1 USB2.0/Firewire cable which I have tried all of)
    - Changing USB ports (including taking ALL my USB devices away and plugging the iPod directly into the back of the desktop machine)
    - Reflashing the iPod again
    I have NOT tried:
    - re-downloading the iPod Updater from Apple and using that (I'm downloading it now)
    So.... the questions are:
    - Has the firmware updater somehow made my iPod appear to be a USB1.1 device?
    - Or is this a hardware fault and I need to return the iPod to be fixed?
    - Is this stability problem a commonly observed one?
    - If so what can I do to avoid it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil.

  • Video lag at start and stability problems in Android 4 (ICS) when using Video and StageVideo

I'm experiencing some problems with video playback in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, which comes with Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
In Android 3 (Honeycomb) and 2 (Gingerbread and Froyo) video playback worked perfectly and started with no lag, but in Android 4 video takes like a couple of seconds to start, showing nothing during that time.
This problem happens when using either Video and StageVideo objects, but when using StageVideo, there's also another problem: When playing back a second video after having closed the first, even after some minutes, when starting the next video I can see during those couple of seconds a still image of the previous video, in the part where it was stopped. Why?
None of this happened in Android 3 and 2, so I don't think it's something related to my code (and I've reviewed it several times to try and find a solution). This seems to be an Android 4 specific issue with AIR, since I've tried several Android 4 tablets of different brands and all of them show this behaviour. I've tried with AIR 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 beta, and this problem happens in all three.
Also, there are some random stability problems if the app goes to sleep while playing a video. Sometimes, it doesn't wake up properly and freezes, giving you a "force close" Android message. Sometimes it wakes up properly but the video doesn't show or it's paused. All of this in "CPU" mode. In "Direct" mode it seems to work a little better.
BTW, can someone explain what's exactly the new "Direct" mode. I know it's needed for Stage3D, but I don't know why there's that specific mode, when there's GPU mode. Isn't Stage3D supposed to use the device's GPU? Well, Direct mode seems to be "better" than GPU in that filter effects work, whereas GPU mode doesn't support filters, so if you can use Stage3D while using filter effects, that's great.

Yes, it's unfortunately still not fixed. Also, I've looked into the bugbase report I filed:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3205172
And it seems they've CLOSED this bug!
They say that they can't "control the video overlay buffer that is still in the hardware. This really depend on how ICS handle their buffer and external playback".
The only workaround is NOT using StageVideo, but just regular video. But then you can't use hardware acceleration!
Also, there's the crashing bug, which is even more important. Video crashes too often, especially in off-brand tablets, which are becoming very common!

  • Problem : MSI Motherboard PM8M3-V and RAM 2 GB

    Hi all,
    I am having a problem with my motherboard PM8M3-V and 2 Kingston 400 Mhz(1GB) 2.6v.
When I was using with 1GB memory ( 2x512 Kingston 400 Mhz 2.6v), it was working well. After I have extended to 2 GB(Put 1 more GB), it is restarting automatically (with blue screen) when the computer is a little busy. I have tested with both Windows XP and Windows 7. Both having same problem.
    Please kindly answered me....
Can it be motherboard problem(MSI supports till 2GB) ?
    Thanks

What about the memory voltage option? [2.6/2.65/2.7V?]
But it works fine with memory clock set to 166Mhz
