Stabilization Slower Than Ever. :( New 12 Core Mac Pro VS 2006 PowerPC Dual

I have concluded testing that the WarpStabilizer in AE using a 12 Core 2.9 GHZ Mac Pro is SLOWER than a dual 2.7 GHZ PowerPc G5 running iMovie and GeeThree's Stabilizer plugin.
There is no excuse for such shotty performance.

Rick:
Stabilization needs to occur in edited clips. If you don't the stabization data is excessive for centering the frame. The edit comes from within PP. Once a PP project is ready for the Dynamic Link(s) .. a 30 min clip could have 100s of clips that need to be sent to AE via DL.
To do this with one giant 30 min. clip sends the position tracking data all over the place .. and ruins many frames that would otherwise be fine if the clips where divided appropriatley ..
Try it .. or anyone whom wrote the plug in should try it.
It is a very simple process that I expected to do within a very basic function.
The was PP and AE handles it is ______.
I would love to make a demo video about what is happening. :O

  • New 8 Core Mac Pro Question

What will the 8 Core Mac Pro do for Aperture? I know you need 4 gig of ram and the ATI video card. I am just curious about what processor to purchase.
I find that Exporting images from a wedding of 800 or so images takes about 2.5 hours on my G5 Dual 1.8 with 3 gigs of ram. I would really like to speed up the Export process!
I will also be using Photoshop CS3 when it ships. Will Actions that I have written run faster on the 8 Core Machine?
I just need some buying advice.
    Kevin Hawkins

How much Aperture alone sees today is not so much the point as is what happens with real world performance. Real world it is not just about the theoretical limit of what Aperture sees; apps and the OS/RAM/GPU/CPUs all work together, and folks typically do have more than one app open at a time. My expectation is that although certainly fully functional with 4 GB, the kind of users that run Aperture on a MP will find that greater than 4 GB of RAM is clearly beneficial.
Anecdotal reports also seem to indicate that Mac Pros have an inherent need for more RAM than previous boxes needed.
Also OS 10.5/Leopard is due soon enough that we should be planning new box configurations based on our expectations of what impact Leopard and Aperture v2 will have on RAM utilization. My strong opinion is that we will be able to take advantage of more RAM as 2007/2008 play out.
In any event 4 or 5 (1 Apple plus 4 third party) GB of RAM is an excellent place to start, and RAM always gets cheaper and is easy to retrofit later. IMO we should buy only 2 GB sized DIMMs to facilitate maximum future expansion.

  • Better video cards for the new 8-core Mac Pro...?

I don't know a ton about video cards. I did some research and the internet says that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 video card is the best card out right now. Will it work in the 8-core macpro? If not, or if it's not the best, what is the best video card that will work in the 8-core macpro?
    P.S.
Does anyone know how to tell exactly whether a video card is better from another? I mean I can guess a video card at 1792MB is going to be better then one at 512MB, but I've also heard that, for example, the ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB is better then the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB, and apple charges more for it so it probably is better, but all that tells me is the name of the cards, and that they are both at 512MB, so from that without any other information I would assume they're exactly the same just made by different companies, but there must be some other details that would explain why it's better right? Thanks in advance

Well I found out the Quadro FX 4800 works on it, that looks pretty good.
It's a good card, but it has a different application focus.
    What applications do you use?
Answering that helps determine what the best card is.
The 5800 is better though, will it work?
    Better, how?
    The spec's read better?
    How about real world performance?
    Benchmarks?
They are very similar in shape and such.
Shape has little to do with anything.
    The ROM is the key.
If the card is not produced as "OS X compatible", it does not have Mac ROM and cannot be used.
If there is a Mac edition that is similar (same GPU series, similar architecture) the ROM may be flashed to Mac ROM.
Especially in Geforce cards, the ability to edit ROMs and even write portions of the ROM is necessary to be able to flash a card.
    Even then, no guarantees.
Often a port on a flashed card won't work after flashing.
Seems the 5800 has a 10 bit display port, so if the card were flashable, the display port wouldn't work.
The ROM chip size of a card is also of concern.
Many cards require either a new, larger ROM chip to accept the Mac ROM (soldering), or, require a hacked, "reduced" ROM to be written to allow flash.
Invariably, there will be some feature loss with a reduced ROM, but a good hacker usually gets rid of superfluous stuff.
Cards with more VRAM than the Mac counterpart will often times lose the extra VRAM- it won't be read by OS X.
Then there is the EFI question, which often creates a final stumbling block for converting a card.
There are many pioneers who flash cards.
If a card is flashable, it has already been done.
The Quadro 4500, 4800, and 5600 have all been worked out.
As of yet, the 5800 hasn't been sussed out for flash (as far as I can find).
    Flashing the card is easy.
Finding a physically compatible card and a compatible ROM are the hard parts.
The two best retail cards for the Mac Pro are the Geforce GTX 285 and the Radeon HD 4870.

  • Cannot Synch iPhone on New 8-Core Mac Pro

I have had my iPhone since the first day they went on sale in June 2007. It has performed flawlessly for me and continues to do so. I have been using the iPhone with a white iMac purchased in March 2007. I have never had the slightest problems with synching my iPhone on my iMac under first Tiger and now Leopard.
Yesterday I purchased an 8-core iMac with Leopard installed. The 8-core is running beautifully. I used Setup Assistant when I booted up my Mac Pro for the first time to transfer my data, applications, etc. from my iMac to my Mac Pro. The transfer appeared fine for over 3.5 hours with the blue progress bar going all the way to the right. Then with "one minute remaining" the process hung and went unchanged for 1.5 hr. I called Apple Support. They told me to shut down and then reboot the Mac Pro. I did and it booted up fine. I found that some of my applications had to be reinstalled and I did so. These apps then ran fine.
However, although iTunes ran fine on my Mac Pro and my music library appeared just as it should, I got the following error message when I tried to synch iTunes with my iPhone: The iPhone "My Name" cannot be synched. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation!". This is in spite of the fact that my account is an administrator account.
Once again I spent 3 hours on the phone with Apple Support and went through two levels of iPhone support. In the end they could not solve the problem. My final Apple Support person recommended an archive and install. I have now completed the archive and install. I am still experiencing the same error message when I try and synch the iPhone.
I am desperate to solve this problem, and I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.
One more piece of information. My iPhone does appear in iTunes when it is sitting on the dock. The synch does begin before this error message appears. Furthermore, when I select the Info Tab across the top after selecting my iPhone under the devices on the left, and I make any changes and click "apply" the iPhone synchs, finishes synching, and does so with no error messages. However if I then hit the synch button again, I get the behavior described above with a failure to synch and the given message.
I thank you in advance for any help that you can provide to me. All suggestions are welcome.
    Tom

I have the same problem and I was getting very frustrated with this because when the alert comes up it gives you no idea of where to look for a solution BUT I also just found a website which helped me resolve the problem. I just did it and everything is fine. The iPhoto is the culprit here and you have to reset it's permissions and privilages.
    Read on and happy syncing!

  • Will iMac 3.4 i7 run Photoshop much quicker than 2.26 8-core Mac Pro

    Hi,
I'm thinking of reducing the footprint of my kit and replacing my 2.26 8-core MP & Display with a new iMac 27 3.4
When running Photoshop CS5, does this i7 offer a good performance improvement over my MP? (RAM would be 16GB in both cases)
I'm assuming the answer is 'yes' as I don't think CS5 expolits the multi-cores, but I'd like  a second opinion before I pull the trigger
    Thanks
    Paul

Thanks...there may come a time where 16GB RAM is not enough but I don't think it will be for a while for me. New iMac has FW 800 and Thunderbolt so my outboard storage is catered for.
I'm really interested to know if anyone has a new iMac and can compare it to an older MP.
When I go into an Apple Store and play with any iMac I notice that it brings up an app window almost instantaneously from the dock, whereas my MP bounces around the dock icon for while before doing anything.
Perhaps I could persuade my local Apple Store to load CS5 for me.

  • Which memory modules to use for upgrade 8 core Mac Pro

I am planning to upgrade the memory in my new 8 core Mac Pro, I use it for graphics and video editing (FCS2), I am wondering what would be the advantages and differences between getting the 8GB upgrade in 2-pair of 4GB module or 4-pair of 2GB module, I know the price for the first choice is almost double the second.

OK, so according to the http://www.barefeats.com/harper3.html Memory Tests, all slots filled means the fastest speed. So here's my question:
I'm about to buy a 2,8GHz MacPro with 2GB RAM, and I want to upgrade to 8GB. I was considering buy an 8GB Kit from Crucial (629.99$), and either leave the original 2GB and add the 8GB to the free slots, or just take the original out and leave only the 8GB modules. And this would be my question before reading the Memory Tests article.
So I went back to Crucial's online store and did some math, to see how much it would cost me to fill the remainder slots (6, counting off the 2 used by the original RAM) with 1GB modules, instead of my previous idea of 8GB (2x4GB). So, a 2GB Kit (2x1GB) cost 127.99$, multiplied by 3, which is what I would need to achieve a total of 6GB, to add to the original 2GB, will cost 383.97$.
That's 246$ less than the 8GB Kit! And according to the Memory Tests, even faster.
Isn't this too good to be true? What's your word?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Huge CPU-spikes on 8-core Mac Pro

    Hello,
I just got a new 8-core Mac Pro with 16Gb of RAM. And updated to Logic 9. And Snow Leopard.
Now logic is giving me the "System overload - could not process data etc" -dialog constantly. From the system performance window I see huge CPU spikes wich cause this dialog when reaching overload at the top. These happen, however, in a spot where there can be just one audio track playing. So it´s not a matter of having a hundred Space Designers happening simultaneously.
Is there something in the preferences I´m missing?
    I appreciate your help,
    Pessi
    Helsinki, Finland

Has to be Logic. In 10.5.8 I have a sample track with add. drums and omnisphere. It show 2-3 dots on CPU, logic 9 then in snow , spikes all the way to pops cracks and 100% so it's logic not optimized for snow as it works fine in 10.5.8. I daw this a lot in cubase sx and nuendo and the pc. And youbknow us iverclocking types. Ha ha. We learn howto turn off everything for great audio performance so hopefully apple will address this. Could also be the plug in nit snow ready too butbam leaning more toward core audio having a glitch.
Again, 10.5.8 is fine. I should test logic 8 too. Hope with the annonced updates coming and more pro features we get more CPUs, dedicated PRO team, express slots in all machines as apple should know, like digi realized, app the $$$$$ is in PROSumer use that's why they bought maudio. Remember how upset the user base was when FireWire dissapeared from MacBooks. Hope we really get back to creative side if things.
    Peace fam.

  • 12 Core Mac Pro client fails to connect to xsan

Dear all, hopefully someone can shed some light on this problem.
We have an xsan system running with clients and MDCs running 10.6.6, XSAN 2.2.1. We have just purchased a new 12 core Mac Pro but we cannot get the machine connected as a client. XSAN admin sees the machine, but fails to write the configuration files on the client. We have tried running the client in 32 and 64 bit modes.
Has anybody else had the same problem? We do have one other 64 bit 8 core Mac Pro (early 2009) client connected without a problem.
Any advice would be greatfully received.
    Richard

Problem solved. Someone had unplugged the metadata ethernet cable!

  • Eight Core Mac Pro

Just a post in case someone wants to know; Logic 8 with the new Mac Pro 8 core machines rocks. I got the stock 2.8GHZ machine (2GB RAM). Screen redraws and meters are smooth, no studders or core overloads. Upgrading from dual 2Ghz G5. Just have to replace my UAD-1 cards now - bummer...
Oh yeah, after the migration from the old Mac, the Apogee ensemble worked straight away without reinstalling the drivers, etc.
    Paul

Good luck with those bigger projects, Paul. I just posted this message on the UAudio forum. I sure hope I'm missing something simple because this is completely unacceptable:
So I decided to upgrade my old dual 2.5GHz G5 with the dreaded AMD-8131 PCI chipset to one of the shiny new 8-core Mac Pros that were announced last week. Of course, this meant that I also had to upgrade my 2 UAD-1 cards to UAD-1e cards. The cards are installed in slots 3 & 4 - the PCI Express 2.0 slot is open. I have a project with the following plugin instance counts:
    4 Cambridge
    5 SPL Transient Designer
    1 Pultec Pro
    1 Precision Maximizer
Would anyone have any idea why I would receive the "One or more Powered Plug-Ins have been disabled. CPU load limit exceeded" when opening the project on the new Mac Pro but not on the old G5? Both computers have 2GB ram. The old computer was running Tiger but the new one is running Leopard. I'm using Logic 8.0.1.
The thing is, all the plugins appear to be loading. If I unload the Precision Maximizer, the reload it, I get the error message as soon as I select a preset. Again, in this case, the plugin seems to be loading.

  • Computer slower than when new

hello, i been noticing my mac acts slower than when new. im getting the little spinning color wheel alot now when i hardly ever saw it before. i ran my disk permissions and it seems ok. is there anything else i can do to make it fresh again? thanx 4 help

yes i ran them then and when it seemed slow. i havent added fonts that i know of, but i did add a canon mpc600 printer and it had software that may have included fonts im guessing. i ran permissions after that installation. inet seems like normal speed, im on ethernet cause my airport is the bugged type that 24"s have. works fine awhile then no longer connects for whatever reason. i gave up on wireless after weeks of problems. i ran onyx and i noticed immediatly my external drive opened without the spinning color wheel so i think its fixed now. thank you for your reply.

  • Snow leopard slower than ever

    Hello there,
Since I've installed Snow Leopard ( one year ago...) my mac is slower than ever at the launch ( more than 40 seconds).
I did my best to clean it with Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner, OnyX. ( It fixed my problem of the multicolored circle which was boring me on iPhoto or When i was on Internet...).
I've checked and fixed the disc, it looks ok.
I've delted the soft which started at the launch
I'd like to upgrade my mac to Lion... but first I need to find  what makes it slow.
    What's wrong please?
    Looking forward hearing from helpers

Check this out... Closing down is very fast... here are the errors for the launch
    How can i do? Thanks

  • MBP slower than ever...

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, then swapped a 250gb 7200rpm hard drive for a 500gb 5400rpm hard drive. Now my computer is slower than ever. It still works, but at a much slower pace. Often the screen will freeze for up to 10 seconds before becoming operable again. This happens when doing the simplest of tasks. I am only running about 5 programs at a time anyways. This never happened on the old system. And I don't think its a matter of the slower hard drive. I was running an old MB with a smaller HD, same RPM, same RAM, and there was no problem. What gives? What should I do?

OK. Let's proceed on the premise it's not the drive. Although, I swapped an 80GB 5400 drive on an iMac G4 for a 160 GB@7200 and noticed quite a difference.
How did you install, clean install with Migration Assistant, clone, Time Machine?
There are some simple troubleshooting steps you can take.
Create a new User go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" (make it an admin acct) and test your apps in this new account, if they are faster the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions faster that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting. Also, delete Users/yourname/Library/Caches. (on the first launch after this some apps will be slow until cache catches up.)
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    Let us know.

  • My macbook is running slower than ever. I have done all the updates and installed MS Office 11. Any thoughts?

    Hi, all,
My macbook is running slower than ever. I have done all the updates, emptied my downloads, and installed MS Office 11. I am not sure if I can do anything else?!

    arupp,
I suggest trying to replace the RAM and the memory storage. This is hard and could potentially ruin your MacBook if you do this the wrong way. Another easier way is to erase thing that you don't need.

iphone 4s with ios 8.1.1, imessage gets slower than ever, sometimes even deliver after 10 min, was not like this with the previous ios, how can I improve imessage sending time?

    Hi there skmonirul,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
From what I gather, iMessages are taking longer than expected to send on your iPhone 4s. If you aren’t seeing issues with other apps, try restarting your iPhone as shown here:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If the issue persists, try restoring your iPhone as shown in the article below.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
    So long,
