Stabilize footage in Adobe Premiere Elements 10

stabilize footage
Message was edited by: Earlycat

Hi there
It sounds like you are asking for help with Premiere Elements?
Unfortunately, you asked in the forum where we discuss Editing as related to Adobe Captivate. You need to click the link below, then on the page that appears, click the drop-down and locate Premiere Elements. Then ask your question there.
I might suggest something a bit more descriptive than "Stabilize Footage". Perhaps state the version of PE you are using, the equipment you are using and the type of "footage" (I'm guessing you mean video that was recorded)
You might even want to point links to examples of what is happeining.

Best of luck to you in solving your problem! Rick

  • How to use the stabilizer effect on Adobe premiere elements 11

Can anyone show me how to use the video stabilizer effect on premiere elements 11 step by step ?
    Thank you !

I suspect that the principles would lend themselves to a step by step but how the effect works with your specific video will depend upon the degree of shakiness and other factors.
    1. Your video clip on the Timeline of a project with the project settings which match the properties of your source video (part of all works whether or not the Stabilizer is involved.
    2. Go to fx Effects Tab at the bottom of the Expert View, navigate to the Video Stabilizer and click on it to view its thumbnail. Drag the effect's thumbnail from there into the video clip on the Timeline.
3 I ran into an online excerpt of the Video Stabilizer in Adobe's Classroom in a Book, you may want to follow the path from there.
    http://books.google.com/books?id=7zdjWNElM1IC&pg=PT252&lpg=PT252&dq=premiere+elements+stab ilizer&source=bl&ots=YM4HHrmZAl&sig=MpFt6GJn7IkgESWBZ6sC6wA7aEM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ZZ2zUbbVI5W3 4APDq4D4DQ&sqi=2&ved=0CHoQ6AEwBw
Also, you might want to put that information together with Adobe Effects Reference's description of the options iin the Applied Effects Palette/Stabilizer Panel.

(Scroll down until you get to Video Stabilizer options description.)
The above should supply with good starter information. If you need clarification on anything that I have written, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks.

  • Footage Trouble With Adobe Premiere Elements 9

Hey everyone, I am new to Adobe Premiere Elements 9 and I really need some help as I have a school project due tomorrow! My videos are filmed with the Nikon D3100 camera. I can play the clips individually no problem, but once I add effects, the clip becomes choppy and seems to be skipping. The audio is fine, it is just the video. When I play the whole thing from the beginning, it is choppy, but like I said; if I play one clip individually, it works. BUT, if i play a clip that has effects individually, it is choppy yet again. HELP!

  • Adobe premiere elements 13 error

I have a problem with Adobe premiere elements 13, when in expert mode of the program and I import a MP4 clip from my Minecraft recordings (the recording mod I use is called camera studio mod) the problem is that it jitters, shakes vertically and I cant seem to fix it.
    The file details are this
    MP4
    Length 00:00:18
    Frame size - 1920x1018
    Data rate - 1372kbps
    total bitrate - 1372kbps
    Frame rate - 11
I had the program around 2 to 3 weeks ago, did about 2 YouTube videos with it, and it worked fine. few days later after my second video, I try to work on another video (the cinematic intro) when I noticed it was shaking vertically so I deleted the clips I was going to use for the cinematic intro and I tried reimported them, which did not fix the problem.
After doing a few test with different Minecraft clips I use in my videos, I noticed problem only happens to the clips I'm using for my cinematic. Time-lapse clips work fine.
Next I interpreted the footage and changed its frame rate to 30, just like my time-lapse clips are ( my time-lapse clips are 1920x1018 running at 30 fps and worked fine). This slightly fixed the problem only it sped up the clip a lot which was not the solution I was looking for.
Lastly I tried to stabilize the clip but I came with this error "Stabilizer requires clip dimensions to match project setting. Create a new project." so I tried to do what it recommend me to do, create a new project, and that didn't work, I even tried it in different settings, and still every single one did not work.
Please help me, I like to get back to making YouTube videos, a fast good reply would be appreciated a lot. Thanks

    Kenerad
Let us recap for a moment...
Did you ever get good results using Premiere Elements 13 and specifically the cinematic output from Minecraft?
You seem to have suggested that at the beginning of your thread. If that were the case, we are in a "worked before but
not now situation" rather than "it never worked before".
Assuming "worked before but not now situation"
    a. Can you think of anything different in the before cinematic build (good) versus the after cinematic build (jitters)?
    b. Have you attempted to uninstall/reinstall Premiere Elements 13 (with a free ccleaner run through between the uninstall
and reinstall to get rid of leftovers from incomplete installs reinstalls)?
    c. Have you considered downloading and installing a tryout of a Premiere Elements version earlier than 13 to determine
if it is more supportive of the cinematic footage? In this regard, you could download and install the tryout of Premiere Elements 11 or 12
and test your cinematic footage in it.

    for version 12

In either case, you need to read and carry out the web site's "Note: Very Important Instructions" in order to avoid
    Access Denied message.
Please let us know if any of the above works for you at all.
    Thank you.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 0.9 project crash, HELP!

This is the first time I am using these forums, so I hope I posted this in the right sektions.
I need help and solutions for a Project which constantly crashes on my Adobe Premiere Elements 0.9. This program has been awesome and helped me create some projects and videos successfully, up until.... well for about 3 days ago when my latest project crashed when I had just antered and checking the storyboard etc, triggering a "Serious Error" message and then it shuts down. I try again and again, but everytime I try to put something (any sound or video etc) on the storyboard and start working etc the same damn "Serious Error" message and then allways shuts down. It's allways this same and only project (which has worked fine before) that crashes like this...
In an attempt to first solve the problem myself I went through the Premiere Elements 9 files and deleted finnished projects and automatic saved process on projects etc, but still won't work even better... The funny thing is that when I open another project (a finnished project I left saved just in case) and go through the storyboard there and messes around a little and such, it won't crash nor trigger the same message as my latest project. And that program even has some effects on every footageclip on it too, but still it works fine. Haven't touched the program or the program until and since yesterday night to give it some rest but it still won't work, the project just keeps crashing like when and since it first started a few days ago.
I have also read through and tried some things from this Help/Troubleshoot page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-projects-premiere-element s.html
I have so far been doing 1 and 2 of the "Beginning Troubleshooting", otherwise I have been reading it all and such. I am also kinda afraid to do the 3 of the first quests because I worked so hard on this project and even tough it just keeps crushing, I'm afraid to lose it. Other, I have deleted audios and such from my filegallery on my Adobe Premiere Eements, stuff I don't need anymore because its projects are already done. After I did that I also tried to create a new project just for testing. The amazing this about this is that this the new created project I created works just fine, I could do all kinds of the stuff, effects and advanced editing which I did on the same project before it started crushing. Tough I didn't save that test-project since I didn't find a reason to since it worked so good. And so the thing is that I can start and create a new project and start working and do usual stuff on it with no problem, same when I open up another project and do stuff, it all works just fine! It is just this one and only project that keeps crushing with this "Serious Error" message, all the time... Does anybody else have, or has had the same problem? What could the problem and error be and how to fix it?
This crushing project do has some effects on every footageclip/videoclip on it, to set the right mood for the musicvideo I'm making. I am making a musicvideo, and I haven't even done the half of the project/video. The song I am making this musicvideo with is about 00:07:32 in length, and (tough this detail may have no influence or meaning) the music is Symphonic Metal. The actual file of the song is 6,96 MB in size. This is also not the first time I've done such projects with such long songs on this same program either, one of my last videos I managed to successfully make and create a musicvideo with a song which was about 13 minutes and 30 seconds in length, and I also used effects on pretty much every videoclip on that project too.
The current filesize so far on the actual project.prel-file of my project that keeps crushing is 9.73 MB.
I am also using Adobe Premiere Elements and doing this troubleing, crashing project on a PC, a Fujitsu Windows (I believe Windows 7, or even updated to a newer version?). It has a regular ATI-card. The computer also has 2 modems and there's still some pretty GB amount free on them. The PC's main system also has a RAM in 6.00 GB and the operative system is the 64-bites.
In short, the PC should just fine be able to handle Adobe Premiere Elements 0.9 and all its projects, just as it has handled it all before plus all my PC games at that. So it must be something with my Adobe Premiere Elements and that specific project which is the problem, but what is the problem and the serious error and how to fix it?
Could it help to save and create the actual video in this crashing project, delete that project then start a new project, upload and put in the videofile of the crashing project in that new project and then continue from there?
In either cases, I need help with this. Please, help!

Thanks so much for your reply, Steve!
Even tough I trust you guys enough here on the official Adobe site/forums to answer those questions as best I can, I am at the same time not very fond of giving away too much information because of safety. I understand I have to If I'm to recieve the accurate answers and solution, but as this is the internet you can never know. But again, I trust you guys enough on here and thus I'll try to answer those questions as best I can, even tough I am not very good with such stuff about computers. The PC I am using is also not only mine, it is the family computer also which me and my whole family uses.
The operating system on my computer (according to the computer propotions etc) is a 64-bites operating system and the computer/PC is also a Windows 7 Home Premium.
The processor the computer/PC have is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU and the RAM is 6.00 GB. However, (and I hope I make this understandable because the computer/PC is in swedish)the subscore of RAM in the computer's Performance-Classification/Ranking is 7,5. The processor subscore is 7,3 per second. And the free space? Well, we have two modems, let's say a modem A and a modem B. Adobe Premiere Elements 0.9 is set to save all its stuff etc on modem B, while modem A is the main modem and spaces all main stuff and other things of the computer/PC. Modem A has about 314 GB of free space, while modem B has 207 GB of free space. Modem A's capacity is a total of 489 GB in which 175 GB has been used, the modems filesystem is a NTFS. Modem B is also a NTFS filesystem and its capacity is a total of 439 GB in which 232 GB has been used. And the Disk Cleanup? I believe my that latest ran it for about a few weeks ago. We also have a CCleaner also. But about the Disk Defragmenter, I have no idea. What exactly does a Disk Defragmenter do?
You mean, entering my project that keeps crushing and simply rename it by using "Save As"? If that is what you mean, I dunnow If that actually worked. When I still tried to do stuff and edit the crashing project (tough as said, it hardly took any changes and process before it triggered that message) and then crashed and shut down, and I opened up the program again (trying to open the same project that way), it asked me If I wanted to re-create the missing process from the last crash of the same project. I tried it and it automaticly was renamed to a for example Project.copy. But when I tried to work with that it was to no futher success, the project kept crashing. I haven't renamed the project by "Save As" tough, but I doubt it'll work, I even tried to rename the actual project file in the Adobe Premiere Elements files but nope... the project keeps crashing. But also about the same question, "Save As" under a new name but in its own folder? You mean the actual project folder or Adobe Premiere Elements preview folder of the projects?
My camcorder is pretty old by now, have had it since I turned 15, it has worked pretty good since then. Its model is a Sony Handycam, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar OPTICAL 20x. Even tough the last thing maybe doesn't say anything, this is all I know about my camcorder, except that it is a model no. DCR-HC17E PAL. But in that Project  which keeps crashing, there are only a few actual camcorder clips used as I am making a Game-MusicVideo and most of the footage of the Video-game (actually a PC game) I'm making a musicvideo of is downloaded from Youtube mostly from a guy I asked permission for to download his recorded footage of the game. I used a Youtube downloader called ClipConverter. As I don't have a SD card I cannot make this footage myself. But some footage I recorded on my camcorder, but If I can find high quality clips and get them, I will. The other footages is actual official trailers of the PC games which also was downloaded from the net. But I can give you the stuffs filetypes and hoping that may help. The downloaded footage which was downloaded by this ClipConverter, are MP4 files. The other stuff (which were official trailers) and most of them are also MP4 files, the others are QuickTime-film files. Many of these downloaded footages and trailers are also in HD quality, at least some of them I think.
The actual filetype ofthe footage I myself recorded with my camcorder are, well.... it says Videoclip in the file. Maybe it is AVI?
The project settings? You mean the settings you set at first when starting as a new project? The general settings are, in editingsettings it is AVCHD 270p square pixel. This is kinda hard for me to tell since everything is in swedish in my program. But these settings has worked perfectly before, same with all files, footages and videoclips I have been using, also all the soundfiles etc. Even the actual crashing project worked perfectly before it started crashing... So why does it so suddenly start crashing now?
The audio is a song I copied directly from its album and CD into the computer/PC and it seems to be in WMA format in filetype.
And lastly, no I haven't rendered the timeline of the project ever, not even on my other projects. What does the rendering do and is useful for? I have very little knowledge of it. Other, I keep the Timeline mode open all the time because I can edit my videos much better with it, but perhaps that editing method make little influence of the actual problem.
Other, yesterday when writing the post and topic, I forgot to mention that I restarded my computer right after I created a new project, that testing project. When finnished with the testing I restarted the computer. Since then I haven't touched the crashing project since now tonight, when checking its settings for this post. I am also right now trying to create and save the actual videofile of it, saving it on my computer. I'll soon see If it's successful without any crashing interruptions, plus that the video itself works and is smooth when I'll play it on Windows Media Player like all the rest of my other videos. I do this just in case I must create a new project to be able to continue with my musicvideo, as the first part of it I worked very hard on.
Other and again, I am still puzzled about why this is even happening, that this project which worked perfectly fine before, just suddenly starts triggering that "Serious Error" message and crashes. And in this program which worked so perfect before. Has this happened to anyone else before? Has anyone else experienced the same issue I have? Is this a knowledgable issue which has solutions and ways to fix it?... :/

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Effects Problem - HELP

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 11, and when I use effects the footage ends up speeding up, repeating itself, and just not staying the same as it originally was. Does this have to do with what type of footage it is. I am using screen-captures that I got when using Bandicam. If anyone could help me with this problem, it would be greatly appriciated, thanks.

    Gamerwalk,
One option would be to convert your odd AVI-MPEG file to DV-AVI, which is what PrE loves most. This FAQ Entry will give you some tips on doing that: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
I use an older file conversion program, DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, but it is NOT freeware. Also, Deskshare, the publisher, has released newer versions.
    Good luck,

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 12: This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed

Hallo! I use Adobe Premiere Elements 12 on my computer (PC, windows 7). When I try do re-open my projects on Adobe Premiere Elements I get the message: This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed. The file type of my saved projects is: Adobe Premiere Elements Project (.prel). The same happens when i try to re-open the auto save files. This is very annoying because I losse all my earlier work. I would be really grateful for help. Best regards, Stefan

With the QT Player installation, you should have Apple's H.264 CODEC.
Maybe this ARTICLE will give you some tips on the GoPro footage.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 7 With Worthless Error Messages.

I have been a programmer since 1984, and if I saw a programmer in my team wrote these worthless error messages, I would go into my office and kill myself.
I Googled them, and I found them discussed; but the responses were of no use to me, mostly.
    1. The error message I got that brought me to the edge of a cliff is: "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that require Adobe Premiere Elements to shutdown. We will attempt to save your current project."
    Then it crashed.
When I was taking Operating Systems in my computer science class, a crash means you will get no more than 60 (out of 100). At IBM, a crash is always a SEVerity 1 issue. There is no way around it. Crash means the program is worthless.
I Googled it, and Adobe suggested it could be some drivers using virtual audio. I uninstalled everything I could find, and this problem is not going away. I looked at the sound device configuration, and it's using physical audio, not virtual audio.
I uninstalled Premiere Elements 7 five times and reinstalled them. They still failed. Finally, I reinstalled it at a different location, and it managed to "Found default catalog. Trying to open the  default catalog." Then crashed.
If I wanted to use the default catalog, I would have said so. If I knew where they are, I would have set them on fire.
Anyway, I have a project due this afternoon, and I am stuck with these worthless Adobe Premiere Elements 7 error messages. No wonder Steve Jobs banned Adobe Flash. They are pretty worthless.
Sorry I am so upset, because none of you need to read my frustration; but I am up to my neck with Adobe. Once I get my project done, and I am switching to SONY Vegas.
But, for now, would someone tell me how to get rid of these problems so I can get the video edited? Thank you.

I noticed these errors were reported years ago, and Adobe has done NOTHING to improve it.
Go back to my little list of how problems, crashes and errors sort out. That was how it was way back with Premiere programs, and how it still sorts out.
Even the patch for PrE 8 was mainly to get it functioning with nVidia and ATI graphics cards. Yes, those "fixes" probably straddle the line between Bugs and system, with a nod towards Bugs. I know that Adobe takes their Bugs very seriously, and work overtime trying to find fixes for those, that do exist. Though it took a bit of time, as they gathered info, still Adobe had a patch, and that is rare for PrElements, due to the normal lifespan of that program.
I provide some of the same answers today, that I did years ago, to fix the problems. In nearly every case, things sort out per that list. As "system" is both #1 and is also by far the largest segment of causes, that is where I begin looking. With PC's, there are myriad configurations, and most are not suited for video editing. Too many load up their e-machine and expect to edit HD material. Obviously, that is not the case here, but there could still be equipment incompatibilities, or just some tweaking needed. I see similar in the PrPro forum, as the Mac-users put the program on their MacBook Pros, with one tiny HDD, and a very weak CPU, and things go horribly wrong. If PrE was ported for the Mac, we'd have the same issues here. Usually, my first question will be about the I/O sub-system, i.e. the HDD's, their size, speed, free space, controller type and how they are allocated. Video editing is highly I/O intensive, and most computers are not even close to being able to efficiently handle it. I recommend a minimum of 3x SATA, physical HDD's, and suggest that they be setup to spread the I/O workload over all three. Some manage with a 2x I/O, but that is below MY minimum, and is the real minimum from Adobe. A single HDD I/O is just going to cause bottlenecks, and there is no way around that.
Once, it was more the domain of the PC, that one had system issues, as Mac's were so limited and controlled. Now, as they have gained the ability to expand beyond the absolute control of Apple, those users are finding out that systems DO matter.
Notice #2 - Assets. Not all AV material is meant to be edited. Some, like AVCHD (a consumer format) will require a pro-level computer, just to get smooth playback! The second most common issue is trying to edit material that has something like the Xvid, or DivX CODEC.
Number 3 - Project, is very important too. One must match their Project Preset to their source footage. If not, then there will be problems. The failure to do this match is one of the biggest causes of issues, though usually not crashes, or hangs.
Number 4 - OE, is when a user decides to push a button, and expects something else to happen, and often because that's how it worked in another program. Many argue with me that #2 and #3 are OE too, but I am much more lenient, than they are.
Then, there ARE the Bugs. PrPro CS4 had a bunch. CS4.1 fixed a few, but broke some other things. It was not until CS4.2, that things got corrected, mostly, with that version. Then, CS5 hit, and seems quite good, but has a few Bugs too. Some were left over from CS4. A new update for CS5 is coming, and soon. Will it also fix those lingering Bugs? Only time will tell. Will it be a perfect program? Doubtful, but I'll bet that it'll be a "better" program.
Think back to when you started programming. You were writing apps. for the majority of the install-base. However, what happened if the user had Extended Memory? What happened if they had Expanded Memory? What happened if they had both, and a software manager to handle those? Most still had 640KB. By that time, I had 2GB, though my MoBo could only handle 1GB with the managers. How could you write for me? I was 1:1000000, or maybe even less. I had to do my programming on the fly, and often had boot discs for different programs. It's not that much different now, except that I would not be such a rarity any more, but hardly mainstream.
I'll bet that we can sort much out, by tackling the "Big 3," and then working down, if necessary.
I like doing test Projects, keeping things simple, and testing as we make them more complex. That helps isolate the issues in most cases. In another thread, the poor user says that all Project Presets, all formats and all Export setting yield issues. My first thought is to isolate on one Project Preset, one set of Assets, and see if it's a system issue.
Sometimes it's easy, and that is good, 'cause the user gets to editing and not fritzing so much. Just nailed one in Encore, but the poster gave me all the data necessary, and my memory did not fail me (maybe it was not "wine-thirty yet?). One post, and one correct answer. Life is good. Sometimes, it takes days, and many posts, to narrow things down. In but a few, there is an answer. In those (like the PGC error in Encore) one never does really solve the issue, and the only hope is to get the OP to start over, do everything by the book, and hope for the best, this time around.
Good luck, and be assured - I do feel your pain. If I have not had one of THOSE error messages, believe me, I have read of them too many times.

  • Adobe Premiere elements 10 has lost HDV camera in device manager..help

Our Sony V1E camera was recognised in Adobe Premiere Elements and we could capture footage fine.. suddenly the device manager can't see the camera..but ..strangely..it can play and rewind the camera etc etc.. just cannot capture?? waht has gone wrong?? It's connected with firewire.
    Help?

All our configs are for Pal HDV 1080i mode in camera and Adobe element project preset is Pal HDV HDV 1080i 25 to match camera.
The elements device manager can shuttle the tape in the camera forward/back etc but cannot capture in the HDV capture mode
If we put the device manager into DV mode it will capture the footage even though the camera is in HDV mode?
Previously the device manager captured the HD footage and recognised the camera itself in the window and suddenly it doesnt recognise the camera in that window and can only capture HDV footage if we go to capture mode for DV camera where it only recognises a Micorsoft DV camera VC generic setting??
That tells me that the port and cable are working perfectly.
Could a setting in Premiere elements be wrong??    DV/HDV device control is selected in preferences. HD anomorphic is also selected.

I have windows 7 Quad core.   I've been creating videos for about a year using the Adobe Premiere Elements 10.   Only recently have I encountered this issue.
I may have found the source, but not sure what the root cause is.  I have a Go Pro HD2 camera and have used APE as my editing source.  However, I recently used Go Pro Cineform Studio to add additional color.  Afterwards, I converted the video back to MP4 Video.  This was where I encountered the problem.
It seems there is an interface issue using Go Pro Cineform with APE.
I was able to restore the video to  the original version.  APE 10 is now accepting the video.
Does APE 10 have the capability to edit video footage to increase color, sharpness, etc.?

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 running sub-par or not?

I am new to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and I have a lot of questions after using it for the past 4 days and getting aquainted.  First off here are my system specifications:
    HP Model h8-1214, 10GB PC3 10600 DDR3 SDRAM, 1.5TB hard drive, AMD FX 6100 6 -Core processor, AMD radeon 7450 HD graphics, Windows 7 64 bit.
This is supposed to be a top of the line computer and I was told it could handle video editing without any issues or hold ups after all best buy does not even carry higher end models then this one.  I am currently working on two projects the first is a re-edit of 1 hours worth of Mini DV footage already edited in windows movie maker.  The other is a 3 minute compilation of videos off my ipod nano.  All the video files are stored on a 500 GB Toshiba USB 2.0 external hard drive.  I have to say I am already experiencing hang ups, slow load time, NOT RESPONDING, and choppy footage when entering effects and titles.  Also just as a test I initially put 1.5 hours of 960P high deff footage off my GoPro and threw in some effects, transitions, and menu options to see if Adobe and my computer could handle it.  It did ok but it took almost 2.5 hours just to render and burn a single DVD.
I am used to similar crap on my wifes 400 dollar laptop but what do I have to buy for this thing to get it to just not stutter and work right.  I am very angry at this point since I was excited that I could finally get a computer and not be held back by poor performance as I have been in the past.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Finding out exactly what is inside your video files will help you determine the correct settings
Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
    What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811
What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

    For Mac http://mediainfo.massanti.com/

Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project
    >thought it would work like an up-convert to higher resolution
No, you need to create a project that matches what you are editing

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 - missing and relinking files

I have adobe premiere elements 10 and I am hoping someone can please help me with an issue I am having with unlinked files.
The problem:  somehow the files in adobe premiere elements organizer have lost the link w/ the originals.  Whether I manually search or allow premiere elements to search, I am unable to relink the files.  I thought I had the original file structure from the camera (Canon Vixia; file structure AVCHD - BDMV - STREAM - then there are the files).  However all that is in the original file structure are the .xmp files (not the .MTS files like there normally are)  I will be honest and say that the computer files did get rather disorganized w/ multiple copies of things (I was having issues w/ converting files w/ the mac, and I used a duplicate finder to find duplicates about a year ago and deleted what I thought were multiple copies of things).  Then left the project alone, and now trying to reorganize the videos and make a DVD.
    The goal:  relink the files
The importance:  Everything links up except for about 4-5 months worth of videos.  Which happen to be the videos of my 2nd child's birth (her first moments in the hospital, first bath, first Christmas, first everything!)  So this is extremely important to me that I find the files and relink them.
What I've done:  Manually searched the mac, the backup drive and the cloud backup.  No luck.  I also had adobe premiere elements search - no luck.  I have used the mac search function looking for key words and later the file name (which shows up in Adobe premiere elements organizer - but it has the little yellow question mark prompting me to relink the files - then I can't find the original to link it to).
Fingers are crossed:  that someone can tell me there is something I can do with these .xmp files to relink them?  Anything that can be done at all?  The premiere elements organizer even shows a picture of what the video is - not just a blank gray screen - where is it pulling these images from if they don't exist on the computer somehow?
I've learned my lesson on keeping original files separate, but please help me save and preserve my daughter's precious first memories!
    Thanks so much.

Thank you so much for your reply.
-When I right click the thumbnail in Elements Organizer & go to "show properties", I see a picture of a folder and the file structure where it should be found (Macintosh HD/Users/ourfirstlastname/Videos/09 30/ 12/ ).  When I follow that file structure on our macintosh HD, there is no "videos" folder in the hard drive.  As a side note, the file name in Elements is 00029.MTS so it is trying to find the MTS file.
-Yes, I have Premiere elements 10, working on a mac and I work with Elements Organizer 10 as well
-Yes, the problem is that I can't find on the computer hard drive the originals for those 4-5 months of videos.  All that is there is the XMP files (which dates match what I'm looking for).  There aren't any .mts files that match the dates anywhere to be found.  It is unfortunately very possible I over-did it with cleaning but I really am holding out hope that I'm just looking in the wrong spot.  I am pretty proficient on a PC but unfortunately rather new to the mac and was holding out hope that they are hidden somewhere and it's just user error that I can't find them.
-I don't actually have a project that is missing files - it's just missing in the elements organizer.  I had not yet started the 2012 project yet.  I was attempting to start the project this evening when I discovered that the files I had put in organizer months ago were not linking correctly.  When I click on files that are present (basically some files after November 2012) and follow the link, I am able to find them (.MTS files and some .MOV files) in the hard drive.
-I very well could have renamed source media files and folders and likely moved them around.  I feel like they would have to be somewhere for there to be an image on the Premiere elements organizer (image w/ little yellow question mark on it) - unless that image is part of the .xmp file?
-I do not have the original footage on the camera's memory.  We only use the internal memory of the camera & transfer to computer & back up - keeping original file structure so I figured that was enough :-(  Unfortunately that footage from 2012 is long gone off the camera.
Thanks again for your help.  If it was any other footage I'd chalk it up to a lesson learned, but those first moments of my daughter's life are super important so I hope I can figure this out!

  • Adobe premiere elements 11 not responding.

Adobe premiere elements 11 says, "not responding" and asks me if I want to close the program. I have done this multiple times and nothing has worked. I am getting very frustrated and am not impressed by this program. What can I do to fix it?

Here is what I was like you to look at and determine if this workflow behaves any differently than the one that you are using now. I am assuming that you are having similar problems with Go Pro Hero 3's 960p @ 48 progressive frames per second and with the Canon's 1080p @ 24 progressive frames per second.
Let us confine these initial tests to the Canon 1080p24, for now to avoid any complications of editing 960p48 in Premiere Elements.
    1. Open Premiere Elements 11 and go to File Menu/New/Project and set the project preset to
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p24
    or
    PAL
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p24
depending on whether you have a NTSC or PAL install for your Premiere Elements 11.
Before you exit the new project dialog, be sure to put a check mark next to Force Selected Project Settings on this Project.
    2. Import your 1080p24 into the project using Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets.
    3. In Project Assets, double click the file there to open the Preview Window and proceed to trim your video.
Here is a description of the process from my blog post. Please cross check what you are doing with the steps that I used in the blog post demo.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/06/pe11-project-assets-organization-for.html
If that is not successful, then stop and let us know.
If that is successful, then let us look at the 960p48...there is an atypical format for Premiere Elements. Here we are going to set the project preset manually as in the case with the Canon, but here we are going to use the project preset of:
    NTSC
    DV
    Standard
    or
    PAL
    DV
    Standard
depending on whether you have a NTSC or PAL install for your Premiere Elements 11.
Before you exit the new project dialog, be sure to have a check mark next to Force Selected Project Setting for this Project.
Then continue with the import and trimming of the video in the Preview Window as you did with the 1080p24 footage.
    Looking forward to your results.
    Thanks.
    ATR
Add On....By the way, how is your external hard drive formatted NTFS or FAT32? Depending on the results from the above mini tests, please look at importing/trimming one of your 1080p24 in the 1080p24 project but import the 1080p24 from a computer desktop save location instead of the external hard drive.
