Stabilizing a video

Many years ago I used Premiere Pro 1.5 very successfully. However, it doesn't work with the newer formats, or at least not with .mov that I now have. One very useful feature was SteadyMove under the Video Effects, worked wonders with wobbly hand-held clips. I have been given Elements 10, can't say that I'm thrilled about it, but is there any similar plug-in that will work with it? Thanks.
David

David,
Let us see if this helps
If you have your original .mov clip on the Timeline of Premiere Elements 10,
a. Share/Computer/Audio with Presets: for AAC High Quality, AIFF, MP3 High Quality, Windows Waveform. Settings adjustments are available under Advanced Button of preset. And, you do not have to separate the video/audio if linked on Timeline.
b.Share/Computer/QuickTime and the like, you can go under Advanced Button and in Export Settings dialog opt for Export Audio, removing the check mark next to Export Video.
If you ever want to get rid of audio or video at Timeline level...right click clip there, then select from pop up menu either Delete Audio or Delete Video.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
Also the following are the typical settings that I suggest for the conversion to DV AVI standard or widescreen, using MPEG Streamclip
For MPEG Streamclip
File Menu/Open Files
File Menu/Export to AVI
In the AVI/DivX Explorer Dialog:
Video Compressor: Apple DV/DVC PRO NTSC OR Apple DV PAL or Apple DVC PRO PAL, depending on your location.
Audio: Uncompressed
Frame Size 720 x 480 or 720 x 476, depending on NTSC or PAL location
Field Dominance: Lower Field First
ONLY if necessary, place a check mark next to Deinterlace Video
At the upper right of the dialog where it says Options, select either 4:3 or 16:9
Leave everything else as is for now.
Hit Make AVI.

  • Can´t render&preview stabilized quicktime-video

    Hello all,
    I´ve encountered a very annoying problem while using After Effects warp stabilizer on a quicktime-video (4K, ProRes444, 24fps, 16-Bit).
After applying the effect, I can see the results in the preview. But when I am closing the AE-project and reopen it the ram-preview stays black even a rendering is impossible. The RAM fills with data, the CPU start working high but not a single frame will be rendered.
    I tried:
    on/off OpenGL
    various multiprocessor/RAM configurations
new project/new composition + new warp effects
    System: Mac OSX 10.6.8, AE 5.5, MacPro 2x 2,26 Quad, 24 GB, Render: 9CPU a 2 GB RAM.
I would be thankful for any help.
    Best,
    Marko

    Hi Mylenium,
    thanks for your help.
But the settings mentioned in the link you´ve posted were already made by default. So i tried to switch back to the non default. But non of them worked for me :/
Mediacache flushing didn´t change anything :/
    Thanks!
    Marko
    PS: It´s CS 5.5

  • Using the warp tool I'm stabilizing  my video and getting rid of the edge artifacts. Analyizing is clear on how long the process will take, but when it stabilizes I only get three moving dots. I there a way to know when the process will stop? Thanks.

I am using the warp tool to stabilize my video and get rid of the edge artifacts.  The program is very clear about how long it will take to analyze, but there is nothing about how long the stabilization will take nor when I know when it is complete.   Thanks ahead of time.

Warp Stabilising is a two part process.
    Analysis and Stabilising.
Both have a banner across the Program Monitor during the process ( unless you have turned that off.
Analysis start automatically on forst application...but you can rock in there and start adjusting the parameters.
You may need to hit "Analyse" Button again.
You should see the number of frames and the estimated duration during this process.

  • Turn Off Video Camera Stabilizer?

After reviewing a video I'd recorded on my iPhone 4S, I noticed that the camera seemed to be stabilizing the video, since I had moved the camera around while recording.
If anyone has ever used the "stabilizing" feature when editing a video on YouTube, they notice how the new "stabilized" video has a somewhat choppy fluidity, because the feature is trying to balance out the movements of your camera. It sometimes, in my opinion, ends up looking worse before you tried to stabilize the video.
Anyhow, I noticed the same stabilizing-type feature when reviewing my video on the iPhone. Except, I didn't turn on any stabilizing feature and I'm wondering if iPhone video recorders are made with an auto-stabilizer. And if so, is it possible to turn off? And how?

    Hi jihanemo,
I'm not sure if the stabilization feature is an option that can be turned off. I've roughly checked my phones settings and saw no setting to disable it. Since I think the stabilization feature is part of the software within iOS, you might have better luck using a third party application from the app store that doesn't stabilize videos or images.
I hope this helps, if not please don't hesitate to ask! I don't mind

  • Mac Pro for Final Cut Studio -- The Buying Guide

I am starting to think about upgrading my "old" Power Mac G5 Quad system to a Mac Pro system. As you might expect, this raises several issues.
What I do: I edit DV and HDV on FCS2. My specs are below. I am looking for the best speed (especially for rendering), stability and video quality I can afford (between $5,000 and $6,000).
Question 1: Is it true that Snow Leopard and FCP 7 are about a year away? If so, please assume for the following questions that I would be working with the full complement of FCS2 applications on the Leopard OS. (How worth waiting for do you think these are?)
Question 2: Without directing me to the various benchmark and testing sites (which I’ve already looked at), can you suggest the actual performance differences I would see (again, using the whole range of FCS2 apps) in the following:
Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors
Two 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors
Question 3: I have heard that (with the exception of Compressor) FCS can only use a maximum of 4GB of RAM, and that the 6GB that the Mac Pro ships with are already more than it can use. Is this true? Is it true that Snow Leopard would allow FCS to make greater use of more RAM? And would this show up in the programs’ performance?
Question 4: To get the best video performance with my various FCS2 applications, is there a significant quality improvement in moving up from the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512MB to one of the other video cards? How would I notice a difference in the quality?
Question 5: Are there any other purchasing considerations I should think about when configuring a new Mac Pro?
    Thanks a lot.
    Giraut

Well, well, well, you make me think more about my last upgrade of an ATI Radeon 2600 to the latest ATI Radeon HD 4870!
I was looking on the Final Cut Pro thread to find one answer and look what I found, your questions!
Since yesterday night I was seeking the Apple Support threads just for fun and I now have doubts.
I am a Mac Pro (earlier 2008) owner. I upgraded it to 4 x 1.5 Tb Seagate hard drives and 10G of RAM from OWC (Other Word Computing). First let me tell you NOT to buy from Apple Store for your hard drive and/or memory upgrade. They are totally out of price list. I got my Mac Pro first with one 500 Gb Seagate drive. Then I added 2 x 500 Gb hard drives from Apple. I payed them 199,00 $ each
Last September, I upgraded the drive bays with 4 x 1.5 Tb from OWC. I paid them 229.00 $ each!
199,00 $ for 500 Gb or 229,00 $ for 1.5 Tb (that"s 3 times 500 Gb) which one would you take? And we are talking about two models from Seagate running at 7200 RPM, with 32 Mb of buffer.
    I mean... What is that?!!?
And the memory! Don't even think about it.
    I got first 4GB Matched Set (2 x 2GB) for 147,99 $ in September from OWC and my second order was 4GB Matched Set (2 x 2GB) for 132,79 $ in October.
I payed a total of 280,78 $ for 8GB of RAM while the price for this upgrade on Apple Store woul have cost me 1998,00 $
    *+Source Apple Store :+*
    *+Apple Memory Module 4GB 800MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM ECC 2x2GB $999.00+*
    Multiply that by 2!
Now how much memory would you need?
I am not a Final Cut Pro user, but I use Final Cut Express a lot, with animation QuickTime movies exported from my Astronomy software Starry Night Pro Plus.
Yesterday I posted this into a thread to answer a user :
+Every morning I have my preferred applications started: Mail, Safari, iTune, Aperture and Final Cut Express. I just did a test for you. I started Mail, Safari, Aperture, Final Cut Express, Starry Night Pro Plus (OpenGL Astronomy Software), Terminal, Quicktime, TextEdit and NeoOffice.+
+With all these apps running, I still have 6.48G of Free RAM out from the 10G installed!+
+It's when I start hungry applications like VMWare Fusion running Windows XP, or Quicktime with a lot of movies opened that I could see the memory level going low!+
+Your bottle neck in video editing will probably be the video card, after the disk speed. Be sure to use 7200 RPM disk and eSATA for your video plans if possible. Firewire 800 will works fine on external drive but it could giggle. I had an ATI Radeon HD 2600 that I recently upgraded to an ATI Radeon HD 4870. the drivers aren't ready yet from Apple. We are all waiting for the next OS X release 10.5.7 for the drivers! For now, I am running on Beta drivers.+
+It's hard to say by now if I have better performance into Final Cut Express because the movie I was working on was an animation movie using plans exported from Starry Night Pro Plus via Quicktime and "animation" codec without any compression. As soon as I make a modification, I still have to render the output for smooth playing.+
Now, after some test with Starry Night Pro Plus this morning, I can safety say that Starry Night Pro Plus with Open GL does use my video card extra speed and that my experience navigating into the Universe is much better and smooth.
But honestly, even if I have to admit that I am using the Beta drivers for the HD 4870, I must say that I have very big doubt that Final Cut Express does use the extra power of the HD 4870 compare to the HD 2600!
In fact, I am searching the support thread for this answer.
Does anyone can say if Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro does make use of the extra hardware feature of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 or not?

  • Troubles with stabilization in FCP X.

Hi, everybody. Recently, I bought FCP X, and I saw some YouTube tutorials about image stabilization. The results appeared amazing, but when I stabilized some videos (I tried this with and without analyzing stability during import) the image really result much more stable, but the frames begin to move as a way to mantain the image stable (initially, the original video had a moved image but a fixed frame; after stabilization, the image becomes stable, but the frame moves constantly). Between the moving frame and the edges of the screen, all is black, and when the camera turns up/down or left/right, the frame keeps following the prior objects, like if yo turn your head but keep your eyes fixed looking the previous images. In those moments, half of the screen appears black and in the other half you can see the video because the frame "moved" following the previous objects. Then, the frame returns to a "normal" position, but again moving constantly while the original images need to be stabilized. In the tutorials, the stabilized video showed no frames. Please tell me what's wrong with this or if I have to make other settings in order to avoid this moving black frame. I hope you understand me, because I'm a spanish speaker.

    @hafken
    I didn`t analyze during import.
If i try the way you wrote -> i delete the files in the folder"stabilization":
    1) do i have to check this little blue checkpoints (ON/OFF) on all clips i want to stabilize again? or are they still there and it works for itself in the backgroundrendering task?
    2) do i have to right click on the clip in the timeline and choose "Analyze and stabilize" ?
or do i have to set the blue checkpoint in the inspector window for each clip i want to stabilize again ?

I'm having this same issue. I've heard the included software is the cause (read below) and I replaced it with Ulead software and get the same error message.
My Box is an Intel P4 2.2 on an Intel 8x MB with 256 MB DDR using Windows 2000 Pro V5. Directx 9.0b.
I'm contacted MSI and they said to wipe clean the install and reinstall 6.1.7.7 drivers. Did that. No change, same error.
So before I recommend to the entire world not to buy MSI products, I'd like an actual solution. I see it works for other people.

I purposely didn't include my 3DMark03 results on account of how sorry they were!!!lol_anim:

  • Need help with m2ts problem in PE 7

Why can't I import m2ts formats in PE7 as I can import mpg formats?

    Ed C Jake wrote:
The video comes from a Sony CyberShot DSC HX30V.  The photos and video clips were imported using Sony's program:   PlayMemories Home       which is apparently required to export video from the camera.
I then copied the photos and videos into an appropriate folder on my external HD.
The next step was to import the photos and videos into PE7.  No problem with the photos BUT PE7 did not recognize the m2ts files.
I have almost the same camera.  Mine is the predecessor to the HX20/30V.  For those that don't know the camera, it is a moderately price pocket "point and shoot" that Sony decided should shoot stunning, stabilized HD video.  If you want a pocket sized video camera, this should be the first one you look at.
I also bought a big brother, the RX100.  I shoot in the highest quality 1080p60 AVCHD.  You can dumb these cameras down to an older format, like MP4.  But, if you want them to perform at their best settings, you need new software.  I started with PrE9, then 10.  The worked with the lower quality settings of AVCHD 1.0 and could be made to work with 1080p that was included in AVCHD 2.0. I was not until the current 11 that AVCHD 2.00 was fully supported.  "Fully Supported" means that 1080p60 was included.  You bought a 1080p60 camera so you need the software to match.  Buy PrE 11!
My "workflow" is the same as yours.  I use PlayMemories to move the video to my computer.  It does a few things well.  It organizes the files for me and, most important, allows 100% lossless editing.  It can trim, split and join parts of original footage to make new files with no transcoding or rendering.  It is fast, even on older weaker computers.  So, just for the opportunity of occasional lossless editing, I keep that in my habit pattern.
I hate to correct Steve, but the files made by the camera don't need "capturing".  (I don't know what capturing is. I think it may have to do with cameras that used firewires.)  AVCHD files only need to be copied.  The files are born as editable video.  The files that end in .m2ts that are made by the camera are all that are needed and can be used by most current editing software except PlayMemories.  PlayMemories uses the other minor files for it's special Sony magic.  If you don't want any of PlayMemories features you can get rid of the .modd and .moff files.
You can use PlayMemories, Windows Explorer, Lightroom, Elements Organizer or whatever to move the files from either the camera plugged into USB, a card reader plugged into USB or putting the card in the computer directly.  It does not matter how you get them there.  You do need to drill down a little to find the files if you use the simpler methods because AVCHD's relationship to Blu-Ray formats put them in a layered folder structure on the SD card.
Once the .m2ts files are on the computer you can put them into Premier Elements by doing a Get or Add Media from files or folders.   Again, you need version 11 for it to work.
One last comment.  HD files like 1080p are large with lots of digital information.  If your computer is as old as PrE7 is, you need a new computer for to handle them.
    Bill
PS:  Steve,  I signed up for a month of lynda.  I'm working on Lightroom and PSE.  I'll be watching yours too!

  • Premiere Output Flickering!

    Dear Adobe Community
I have a serious problem with rendering out of Premiere Pro CC 2014 and Media Encoder CC 2014. Both products are up to date.
In all my renders I get the following flickering as soon as a video is overlaying an other or is on the second video track (in this case the video is also nested).
I'm running a macbook pro retina 2013 with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB. The footage is 4K, from a GH4 and downscaled on a 1080p timeline.
Need to get this fixed somehow! Thanks in advance.
    ********************* update  *********************
I did a few tests and found a "workaround". The export problems only occur when the overlaying videos are nested (done for stabilization - note: stabilizing scaled video should absolutely be possible without nesting them first)! Once I replaced the nested clips with an after effects composition the render was fine.

I'm not sure how to use the camera function whilst on msn, turning it into a webcam...anyone have any help? can it even be done?
    many thanks

    Hi Dany,
Unfortunately it cant be done im afraid, only IM can be done using MSN Messenger between a mac and PC. However there is a program called aMSN that allows you to use the video chat feature, but i cant guarantee its stability during video calls. Download it here:
    http://www.amsn-project.net/download.php
My advice is download and use Skype (or use iChat) In my opinion Skype is flawless at video chat between PC and Mac, i use it everyday and the video quality very good! You can IM aswell. Good luck!

    Microsoft Windows 7 x64
    PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 -- 750W Continuous @ 40C (825W Peak)  +12VDC @ 60A (Single Rail)
I put together my system (http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=628222) in April of '09 and everything has been rock solid.  About 3 weeks ago, I started seeing strange graphical glitches, which can only be remedied by a system reboot. See below:
Initially, I thought that the issue may have been software related, as I could screenshot the problem, and noticed that the problem would occur only after waking from sleep mode, and only while playing fullscreen games.  Before assuming anything, I ran diagnostics and checked my temps, all of which were in spec, so I decided, maybe I had lost my primary video card. I tried each of my SLi cards independently with the same result. I've also tried using each PCI-E slot with similar results.
I moved on to test memory with Memtest86, which would lockup @ 5% through its first test. So I started sequentially removing RAM sticks until it ran.  After pulling out two sticks of ram, I thought I had nailed down the issue, things were stable again, but the system would periodically not POST, no VGA, nothing. Diagnostic LEDs would be RED|GREEN|GREEN|GREEN but would boot normally after a power cycle.
After a couple days of stability, the video glitches came back.  At this point, I'm thinking it could be the Mobo itself. Upon boot my LED Diags go RED|GREEN|RED|GREEN and don't change.  The system is failing to POST most of the time, and when it does boot, just completely dies under any stress whatsoever.
Obviously, I would imagine, it could be a power issue, but I have a solid PCP&C Silencer 750 which I would find hard to believe is causing the issue. I could test voltages, but I'm doubtful this is the issue.
Any thoughts on what I might try next?

The graphics corruption your screnshot shows would seem to be symptomatic of a failing VGA card.
Yes, but not only. I doubt that's VGA failure for this case.[He got 2 VGA's, tested each one alone with no change, Both VGA to be failing sound not much realistic]
Unstable system memory can cause the same artifacting/visual corruption

    * Test each one memory stick alone with >>Memtest86<<,
use the 1st DIMM close to CPU socket to isolate if you have an defective stick.
    * You can apply memory voltage in BIOS Setup recommended by memory vendor if need[2.0 - 2.1V, check specifications at memory vendor for your sticks]

  • Power LED Flashes on During Startup then turns off (system keeps running)

The system itself works great aside from a few issues with MSI Live and Dual Core Center.
It's a K9N2G Neo Motherboard and I have tried connecting the Power LED to JFP1 (MSG LED pins) Like MSI told me and
I currently have the PLED connected to the JFP2 (Power LED pins 1 & 5) the way it should be connected.
Could it be a faulty case LED, an issue with the motherboard, a BIOS setting?  I don't know.
I would not be so concerned if it wasn't for the fact that the current MSI Live Update only lists options for VGA BIOS, VGA Drivers and Utilities (nothing for the motherboard.)  And that the Dual Core Center only lets me View/Adjust the Graphic Card.
I keep thinking that it could be the Motherboard BIOS (I'm on the newest version available) mostly because the BIOS is missing the tRAS option for setting the Memory Timing.  When I look in the Manual (which I downloaded from MSI as a PDF) it shows 6 settings for Memory Timing TRC, TRRD, TRCD, CAS(TCL), TRP and TRAS. The current BIOS only has 5 Settings (as confirmed by an Image that MSI Tech support showed me.) The one that is missing is TRAS which is required for setting Memory Timings and is probably the most important setting.  Anyway, since the PLED flashes on, I really don't think it's a faulty case LED.  Also, since the system boots and runs very stable (More than 48Hrs of uptime while running constant Burn In Tests and no Heat or stability Issues (Video Card hit 45C, CPU hit 36C)) I don't think it's a Hardware Issue.
If anyone can help me track this down, I'd like to know what the problem is.

Suggest you use neither Live Update or Dual CoreCenter.
A USB flash like you noticed is far better for BIOS.
Installing drivers you should do manually. And there aren't many to choose from:

stabilized. But once I export the video to either .mov .mp4 or export to iTunes in 720 format the video played back on other devices looks like I never
stabilized. Any ideas or suggestions to why this would happen and how to fix it?

    Hi
    Just thinking.
Video Sequence - From Event's - will not be stabilized on Export
From Project's and ticked in info window to apply to clip - Will on Export (at least have ever done so for me)
IF this do not work I would
    - Close iMovie
    - Start a New User Account
    - Log into this
    - Then try iMovie from here (Yes You might need to Re-Import / Re-Create a Project to test)
If it now works - My guess is - 99.5% iMovie Pref. or Casche files - need to be trashed in the Old User account Library.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Stabilizing video?

Does anyone have a good way of batch stabilizing video shot with an iPhone? I've tried iMovie but the only way I can get the stabilization is to edit a movie together & export it.
My preference is to have a batch converter that analyzes & exports new files (or some way of stabilizing while I'm videoing in the first place).
I know that manually stabilizing each movie yields the best results, but time will prevent me from doing that and I'd be happy with a batch converter.

Sorry realised the description of the video and issue is vague

  • Video lag at start and stability problems in Android 4 (ICS) when using Video and StageVideo

I'm experiencing some problems with video playback in a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, which comes with Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
In Android 3 (Honeycomb) and 2 (Gingerbread and Froyo) video playback worked perfectly and started with no lag, but in Android 4 video takes like a couple of seconds to start, showing nothing during that time.
This problem happens when using either Video and StageVideo objects, but when using StageVideo, there's also another problem: When playing back a second video after having closed the first, even after some minutes, when starting the next video I can see during those couple of seconds a still image of the previous video, in the part where it was stopped. Why?
None of this happened in Android 3 and 2, so I don't think it's something related to my code (and I've reviewed it several times to try and find a solution). This seems to be an Android 4 specific issue with AIR, since I've tried several Android 4 tablets of different brands and all of them show this behaviour. I've tried with AIR 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 beta, and this problem happens in all three.
Also, there are some random stability problems if the app goes to sleep while playing a video. Sometimes, it doesn't wake up properly and freezes, giving you a "force close" Android message. Sometimes it wakes up properly but the video doesn't show or it's paused. All of this in "CPU" mode. In "Direct" mode it seems to work a little better.
BTW, can someone explain what's exactly the new "Direct" mode. I know it's needed for Stage3D, but I don't know why there's that specific mode, when there's GPU mode. Isn't Stage3D supposed to use the device's GPU? Well, Direct mode seems to be "better" than GPU in that filter effects work, whereas GPU mode doesn't support filters, so if you can use Stage3D while using filter effects, that's great.

Yes, it's unfortunately still not fixed. Also, I've looked into the bugbase report I filed:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3205172
And it seems they've CLOSED this bug!
They say that they can't "control the video overlay buffer that is still in the hardware. This really depend on how ICS handle their buffer and external playback".
The only workaround is NOT using StageVideo, but just regular video. But then you can't use hardware acceleration!
Also, there's the crashing bug, which is even more important. Video crashes too often, especially in off-brand tablets, which are becoming very common!
