Stabilizing jitter / stepping effect

I have a close up tracking shot that is looking next to perfect (smooth) on the studio broadcast monitor in playback from the camera. May be requires a touch of stabilization on the vertical.
When played back in Premiere CC2014 in the edit suite... it displays a degree of stepping ( that cant be seen in playback from the camera).
Warp Stabiliser fixes the vertical stabilisation but I need to find something for the "stepping jitter". I dont even know where it comes from which is alarming!!!
Any ideas guys and gals?
Would a point tracker be useful? Any tips on this.

By trial and error in AEFX and after a lot of research of this very common issue...better described as "judder"...I appear to have a satisfactory "fix" to what was two "issues". Float and Judder..
Warp Stabilise>"Position"> Smoothing 110% (This resulted in absolute minimal scaling of 101.345% indicating how little float there was)
plus..
Comp Setting> Advanced> Motion Blur> 360% Shutter
Camera Tracking speed was not the issue at 12 sec, 10 and 8 respectively but what may be worked against this specific shot was that these wine bottles, labels and text are very hard edged and vertical. "edgy and contrasty".

Hello, I have a K9N2G Neo and I am looking to upgrade to a AMD Phenom II X4 925 but I have a couple questions. Will stepping/revision of a CPU effect compatibility?
I see in the CPU Support that Phenom II X4 925 C2 is supported but would the same CPU but C3 stepping effect weather or not it worked with my motherboard?

The latest in support list is C2 CPU supported by BIOS 1.2 and that dates back to Jan. 2009.
Even the list from this website which are usually fairly up to date doesn't show any C3's.

HP deskjet 960c printer stair-step printing problem

Hi there, my printer used to work beautifully. Now when it prints it I get a stair-step effect. ie it starts OK, then the image moves up by a millimeter, then another millimeter etc etc. It's very annoying. It does it no matter what I print, text, images, pdfs...
Can anyone throw any light on this, and what I might do to correct it? I'm on a G4 quicksilver using os x 10.3.9. Printer driver is up to date as far as I know.

Ooooh these printers, I could scream!
I can be very frustrating at times. Especially when you have intermittent problems.
First, I switched the usb cables around, and that
didn't make a difference.
It was a thought. We can pretty much rule out a bad USB cable now.
Then I installed the
gutenprint drivers. They printed out my images in a
not very clear kind of pointalist dots type way, my
type was no longer clear, and the colours were not as
good as before and anyway, it still stair-stepped so
I uninstalled them.
Interesting that the printing is "pointalist". My old HP 870 also uses the PCL 3 driver from Gutenprint. Text is great. I really don't use that printer for images, however. I have noticed a blue shift in the tones. The fact that the printer is still stair-stepping with these drivers would point to the printer malfunctioning. Especially as I look back over the previous posts and noticed that the stair-stepping seems to have increased in displacement.
But I noticed something in the
gutenprint set up where it talked about respooling
your printer? Basically you had to go into file
sharing and click printers to file share and this
reset something.
I don't recall seeing that. Do you recall what part of the documentation that was in?
Did 4 prints and no stair-stepping!

directly into the back of the computer (it's normally
plugged into a belkin hub).
So that one is completely unsolved, still random
stair-stepping.
All indications seem to point to this being a hardware issue with the printer. The only other test I can think of is to try it on another computer. A Windows box would be a good choice. I know the option of trying things on a different computer is not always possible. I just hate to condemn a printer to the trash heap until all possible avenues have been explored.
My big 1125c is also still a 'mare. When it prints,
it's great, no stair-stepping. But my mac keeps
losing the connection to it.
Again, the frustration of a sometimes problem. I don't have any good advice here. We have seen this type of problem before and there doesn't seem to be any one thing that helps in all cases. I have three printers. My Epson SC 800 which is connected via a parallel to USB adapter has this problem. I have not found a solution for it. My other 2 printers never skip a beat.
Haven't yet run Apple Hardward Test disk (think I
have it somewhere) although tried the Printer Setup
Repair mentioned and that hasn't seemed to help.
I would still recommend that you give this a go. There still could be a problematic USB port on your computer that is causing some of the problem.

I took a look at that thread. I think the responder is correct in all respects as to the stuck process. I doubt it has anything to do with your printing problems.

FMLE Jitter on Mac

I'm using a Mac tower, dual hex core, 16gb mem, a real beefy computer that's normally used for video editing. I'm using this in conjunction with a Blackmagic Decklink Studio capture card, which is receiving 1080i 59.94fps video.
I have the following Flash Media Live Encoder (FMLE) settings:
H.264 Level 5.1, keyframe frequency 2 seconds
30fps Frame Rate (for output)
1920x1080 input size, with "maintain aspect ratio" checked
2 renditions, one at 2200kbps/1280x720 resolution, one at 600kbps/320x180kbps
Audio is in AAC format, stereo, 44.1khz, 128kbps bit rate
I'm streaming this to a Flash Media Server (FMS) on Akamai.
I keep getting a fair amount of jitter. I've tried many many combinations and permutations of settings, but to no avail. The settings listed are the settings that seem to minimize jitter most effectively for my setup. Even so, when the output is viewed on Akamai, the video is jumpy, freezing frames for a fraction of a second, or seemingly skipping frames. Even when I change the output video to 1920x1080 (because I've read that making the input/output the same resolution helps), I still get this slight jitter effect.
The output statistics are standard. No drops, no buffer, constant frame rate output, everything looks to be operating properly.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next? I've also tried running FMLE from the command line on my Mac, but I keep having troubles with the FMS authentication, so I don't know if that would help or not.
I've tried contacting Adobe a few times now, but it seems that Adobe does not have a dedicated team to this product like its others, and getting support for this product over phone or chat has been surprisingly difficult.

I've used Windows machines before with no problems, but this studio that I'm working with wanted to start doing live streams, and only has Macs in the studio. So naturally they want to take one of the $4000 machines they have for video editing, and also use it for live streams, as opposed to buying a new PC for live streaming.
As for playback, when I've used Windows machines for encoding with FMLE, I've had no problems with playback on Macs. When encoding with a Mac, both PCs and Macs experience playback jitter. Also if I use FMLE on a Mac to record an FLV directly to disk, the FLV will have some jitter as well, so it seems to be an issue on the encoding end, not the playback end.
I've not tried SD sources, because my clients would rather buy a new computer than go SD (client is making the HD aspect of the stream a big selling point in their marketing), but I have used less taxing configurations, such as only encoding a 320x180 600kbps stream, and still have seen some jitter. But even with my CPU cruising at 11% for that 320x180 stream, it's having issues.
Another fun fact: my company had a license for Wirecast laying around, and I tried it out on this computer. Same problems, actually to a greater degree.
Thanks for the link. That's actually very similar to a PC encoder that my company just built, we just have a dual quad core to handle the HD encoding, but we're still waiting for it to come to us from the west coast. We may end up carting it to and from the studio for their live streams, if we can't get this resolved.
Finally, Adobe has been having me do encoding tests for them, and has been running encoding tests of their own in the lab. They say they've been able to reproduce the jitter problem on a Mac in their lab, and are working on a way to resolve the issue. Here's hoping...

Jitter in 24p images

I shot a feature with the Panasonic AG-DVX100A using the 24p mode (not 24p advanced)and edited it on Final Cut Pro. Now, whenever I try to burn a DVD or output to tape, the image has an annoying jitter/flicker effect that was not present in the source material. Anyone have ideas on what the best way is to bring my movie into DVD Studio Pro and output a version that looks correct?

All NTSC cameras record 23.976 rather than actual 24P so this difference shouldn't really be an issue.
The frame dropping is odd, but I wouldn't be surprised by odd behavior because it appears you've been using FCP settings that were designed for 24P Advanced while your footage is not advanced. This is likely a cadence error due to the differences between your footage and advanced footage.
If you plan on editing in 23.98, you should use the 24P advanced setting on the DVX. The non-advanced 24P pulldown cadence is not compatible with the feature that FCP uses when removing the pulldown at capture from advanced footage.
If you recorded in 24P non-advance, you would probably have a better time just editing in 29.97fps or using Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown manually. Editing the footage in 29.97 will basically look the same as editing in 23.98 as long as you aren't doing any really advanced rotoscoping or scaling of footage.
Don't rely on FCP to remove Pulldown from non-advanced footege during capture.
I may be wrong about this, so please verify this in the FCP manual. That's where I learned this. Good luck.

Still confused: Should I shoot HD in 30p or 60i ?

I know this has been discussed at length and I apologize if I missed it, but I'm not sure there was ever a consensus on the answer.
With my Canon Vixia HV30, I have the option to choose 1080p30 instead of the 1080i60 default. Assuming I'll be processing my video in iMovie more often than displaying directly from the camera (which looks fantastic but is limited to raw footage), am I better off choosing 30p? I'm guessing that would eliminate the need to de-interlace my raw footage to avoid the field-drop issue? Any downsides to choosing 30p?

a) i was meant for arial-broadcasting, displayed on tubes. actually, any 'flatscreen' isn't able to display i - there's some pound of electronics needed, to 'add' the two fields into a p-picture on display...-
b) actual cameras don't read-out the 'chip' in i but p ... there's some pound of electronics needed, to 'create' the two fields in the recording

E4200 - Router would stop working in about 30 mins time

Out of the box this thing was a breeze to setup. That is where the praises end. After the first few devices attached them selves the router would stop allowing internet access. I could still log onto the router and everything appeared fine but there was no internet access. The only solution was to hit the reboot button in the router software or power cycle the router. Then it would work for about 30 minutes. I googled the issue I was having and found it's a common problem. Not sure why this router has such great reviews on here.

You should take a few steps to increase your connection's stability.
Step 1: Reset the wireless router by using the power switch on it or by unplugging it and plugging it back in. You should leave it off for about 20 seconds before turning it back on. This is a good step to take anytime you're troubleshooting your router; it gives the router a chance to refresh the network and reestablish connections with any devices paired to it.
Step 2: Place the wireless router in an ideal location. The higher it is, the better, but don't put it near the ceiling if metal beams or pipes are up there. Metal objects can strongly interfere with the network. Keep it away from large objects, since anything large and solid can obscure its signal.
Step 3: Get as close as possible to the router with whatever device you're trying to connect. The closer you are, the stronger and more stable the connection is.
Step 4: Keep the router and your connecting device away from other electronics. You should especially keep away from phones, fax machines and microwaves, since many of these appliances operate in the same frequency range as wireless routers. Other wireless routers should not be near the Linksys router or your device.
Step 5: Adjust the antenna if it has one. You may need to try putting it in several different positions before you find out what is most effective. If you're connecting to a router on a different floor than you, the antenna should probably be at a 45-degree angle or even completely horizontal.
Step 6: Change the router's channel, especially if other wireless routers are nearby. This is an option that only an advanced user should attempt. You'll need to access the router setting Web page, which is most likely 192.168.1.1; Then go to the Wireless tab and change the wireless channel to 1, 6,9,11...

I was thinking that if he wanted to create multiple keyframes he might be creating a repeated effect rather than manipulating values that are shot specific - like creating an oscillation or some repeated step effect. If he was creating keyframes specific to his content he'd probably not look for a way to do it "quickly" since each keyframe would require manipulation of specific values.
So my thought was to generate the series of keyframes on a dummy clip created for this specific purpose, copy the clip, paste attributes (maybe turn off "Scale Attribute Times") and add bunches of keyframes at once.
Still, you're right, it's tough to divine the intent of someone very new to FCP. His question could be based on a misunderstanding about the use of keyframes.

Poor Speedgrade performance using premiere's Direct Link

I am having a problem grading my project in Speedgrade using Direct Link from Premiere.
My project is in total 7min 30sec long consisting of MP4 video from my Canon T5i/700D. Video had a slightly higher bitrate (CBR) than usual (1.4 maybe?). In premiere I have done a bit of stabilizing using after effects (warp stabilizer) and denoising (magic bullet denoiser II) . All of these I used the 'replace with after effects composition' option. These shots make up about 1/6th of the total sequence. All my project files are located on my SSD (I thought moving them there would help. It doesn't). worth noting I am also using a custom LUT designed for CineStyle which I'm using on my canon.
My problem is the speed. It's not even a little slow. It's unusable. Let's say I select midtones and want to up the offset a tiny bit. I click the slider and slowly move my hand up. I then have to wait around 10 - 15 seconds for speedgrade to even start recognising the change. If I let go the mouse it means I have to wait again a long time to change it once again. It's the same for all the other sliders (color temp etc.)
I've grown to like using Speedgrade for color correction but now it's taking far too long. What should take around 20 seconds per clip is taking around 5 - 10 minutes. Also as a result my correction and grading is gotten pretty bad (it wasn't that good to start off with). Restarting it doesn't help as it's just as slow when it starts as an hour later.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any ideas?
As I'm in a bit of a rush with this project I'm going to try just do the grading in Premiere. I've never done grading in the CC version of premiere, so is there any new color tools someone could recommend?

Looking through your gear for a quick idea ... it appears you're running twin (separate) video cards? You might try a quick disable of one card, and see if Sg runs better. I suggest this because 1) some computers at some times have had trouble running paired vid cards in Sg and 2) it's a quick & easy thing to test.
As another thought, I did some denoising on a 2:39 clip in Ae just using its own built-in denoiser, and it ran s l o w after that until I did a complete render of it. Even then, any change I made and it was back to s l o w motion. When I commented here, I had a couple responses to the effect that denoising is so hardware-intensive that most of the time they left that to the final set of things before exporting.

How can I set timings to increase the size of an image in a Keynote presentation?

I know how to use inspector to bring in and fade out text boxes, but at the end of a slide I have a graphic (that is at the bottom of the slide during the rest of the slide) that I want to increase the size of to take up the entire slide. How can I do this?

The effect you're looking for is 'Scale'
In Keynote '09, 5.1.1 select the graphic.
Click Inspector in the tool bar, Build Inspector (3rd icon from the left), (Build In and Build Out are both set to None for this step) Effect, Action, and then Scale.
It rescales ('zooms') the selected item (image) up or down from 0% to 200%
Clicking on the More Options button at the bottom opens a drawer to the left, and gives you more control over how the build occurs, whether they happen automatically, timed, or when you click, and re-order build steps.
At 200%, double the original size, resolution could be a problem. There is a workaround, because it also scales smaller, down to 0%. So I would scale the graphic down 'small' as the first step to fit at the bottom, (even hide it behind a background-colored box) as you scale it down, and then at the end, scale up to full size to fill the screen at 'normal' resolution.
In the attached example, I use a 'scale' up to go from 100% to 130% on a map, and use arrows and a flashing line to point out the road where a specific business is located with 12 steps. Some elements in my slides have been intentionally obscured. For simplicity, I've eliminated showing any steps but the initial title and the scale.

How to adjust the position of an image in a full screen slideshow

Hi I'am using a full screen slideshow composition on my page and muse is not letting me adjust the position of the image to the top, middle or bottom of the frame under the fill option when the image is selected in the slideshow.
I also find it very buggy when previewing the page in a browser, some time it re-sizes the image only larger but never scales down proportionately, only on rare occasions. Why does this happen?
Can someone please help ASAP I need to get this site done by tomorrow.

Error while syndicating-----Immediate req

I am getting problem executing workflow.

1.when outbound map at console is put automatic,continous.----records are not getting syndicated and when i observe visio map it is not showing the corresponding map in syndication step.
2.when outbound map at console is put manual,then when executing the workflow,am able to view the correponding map in syndication step in visio,but while syndicating it is creating a temp file and putting in ready folder.and continuosly generating temp files.........
R there any configurations to be done to solve my problem.

Which version of MDM are you working with?As syndicate step does show some problems when working with the SP05 version.
You can refer the below thread:

If this is not the problem,then try designing your workflow by putting a process step in between the start and the syndicate step.As i am not sure whether the Validate or Syndicate step can be connected directly to the start step effectively.May be there could be a connection issue.
Put the process step in between ,you need not perform any operation at this step if required.
Also as mentioned the ports processing type should be Manual and the syndication server up and running.
Also check once by going in the syndicator ,if your records are Greyed out.Also make the suppress unchanged records as unticked and check again.To evaluate whether suppressing records are the reason for sending out 0 files.

How can I set the location of iChat dialogue box on my desktop?

When I use iChat it always opens a chat box in the upper left corner of my screen. I then drag it down to the lower right, where I want it, but it doesn't remember that position when I close it and open a new box.
Is there a way to get iChat to always open the chat box in the same location where I want it?

This is a yes and no answer.
iChat will remember the place for Outgoing call whether they are Audio, Video or Text chats.
This is always the place the last outgoing chats was when it was Closed and Ended
Incoming Invite to be accepted are always in Standard places and cannot changed.
Text Chats are Top Left of the Screen.
Slightly lower are Audio Only chats.
Video Chat Invites are always Top Centre. (Based on the External iSight being mounted top and centre and Internal iSights being in a similar position - so that it looks like you are looking somewhat towards the camera when watching your Buddy)
Second invites when old invites are present or Chats in the case of Text chats are present will cause a sort of overlapping step effect to the left and downwards (much like any other app opening multiple windows).
If you have Developers Tools Installed you get Property List Editor
This can be used to Edit .plists
I have had little success with trying to alter the positions of windows in iChat.

Installation hangup

Greetings. I have tried several times to properly install iTunes7 this fine Christmas Day. The install hangs at the 'Registering modules' step effectively freezing the entire computer. Upon forced reboot, the prog will run with the proviso that it can't get album info due to an install error and to re-install the entire program. I have done this several times to no avail. Any insight or thoughts/comments more than welcome.

I have exactly the same problem installing iTunes, my PC hangs in the "registering modules" too, excapt my PC is not frozen, only the install program, and of course since its not properlly installed it wont run!.
I got a Nano for Christmas and can't use it because i can't install a working software that SHOULD have came included with the iPod.
How come iPods are so popular if they have such huge problems?? and customer support: unexistant??

Subpixel drawing of slow-moving sprites

I've been working on an iOS game with Flash for a while. Now I'm stuck with a display problem.
My game objects move very slowly and steadily and I notice pretty bad jittering/stuttering. This is GPU mode in Air 2.7, CPU mode is too slow. The cause of the jittering seems to be that Air moves my sprites (based on PNGs) only in full- and half-pixel steps, regardless of whether cacheAsBitmap/-Matrix are enabled. Is this an optimization by Adobe or can I get rid of this somehow? It's really annoying.

I'm currently only developing a low-res (iPhone 3GS) prototype, so I can't say how it will look on iPhone 4.
No caching at all or cacheAsBitmap + -Matrix both look the same: the very discernible half-pixel stepping effect.
Just cacheAsBitmap looks much worse as it produces full-pixel stepping.
I also tried using a larger Matrix and larger, down-scaled PNGs, but that didn't help either, unfortunately.
Positions of the sprites are all Numbers with no rounding. On the desktop in Flash player (with no caching), this produces beautiful fluid motions, but on the iPhone, it still snaps to half-pixels. That's why I was wondering if that was an optimization in Air.
