Stabilizing only a segment of a clip

Hi, I'm new to FCP/Motion and I was wondering if there's a way to apply the stabilization effect to only specific segments of a clip? I tried using markers and trying to add keyframes, but I either wasn't able to add them, or they didn't really work as I'd expected. Is it possible to do what I'm asking for without having to splice the clip in FCP and then send out the pieces to Motion?

First, you don't need to send the clip to Motion to stabilize it. FCP will do the same thing with the SmoothCam filter. Second, both the Smoothcam filter in FCP and the Stabilize behavior in Motion get applied to the entire clip - so you'd need to export the segment and reimport first.

I want to add flash to one segment of a clip.

I also do not quite understand what you mean. If you want to simply add a "flash" somewhere, I would simply "split" the clip where you want the flash to be then add a "flash" transition to the split point. The resulting two clips should continue as if they were one only with a flash going off at the place where the split is. I think you should have snap enabled so you don't accidentally move the clips apart somehow. Then, since it is a transition you are adding to get the "flash" effect, the clip you are working with must be on the storyline ... transitions can only be applied on storyline clips. Don't know if this is what you were looking for. Hope it helps some.

Depending on which country's store you are in, the previews are supposed to be either 30 or 90 seconds.
The last few days there have been several posts here that they are not getting the full preview. There is certainly no setting to control that, so I suppose the problem is at the store.
My suggestion is to try again in a few days, or to purchase from another online music download retailer.

IMovie11. Rejecting a segment of a clip.

I am working on iMovie11 and I have alot of long clips that I want to edit down in events. When I reject a segment of a clip, I move the rejected to trash but it takes the whole clip with it and not just the segment. Is this normal? Is there a way around it? Does FCP do this?

I added background music to the video clip, but I only hear noise, no video clip audio or the background music audio

I added background music to the video clip in iMovie, the playback runs ok on the right corner preview screen, if I share it to movie clip or itunes or theather, I only hear noise, no video clip audio or the music audio
If I don't put additional audio to the clip. audio effect or music background, the video plays normally
I detached the audio from the video clip and deleted it, that way it was possible to listen to the music background and see the actual video clip, but no audio from the video clip.
How can I have both?

My first thought is -
Where are the original Audio file ?
If it was on an Audio-CD then the CD is Ejected and one tries to play the movie - it can not find it = Silence.
You are using an Non-Destructive Video editor - meaning that You have raw material - Video, Audio and photos but no Movie in Project - only a text document directing How You want it to be played. So if Audio is not where it was when this document were created - iMovie can not find it and e.g. audio goes silent.

Only able to laydown one clip from the time line

When try to do a assemble to tape using the edit to tape window, I drag the clips from the sequence in the time line and drop into the assemble edit box, but this only lays down the first clip. I am sure this is something stupid I am doing but I cannot see what.

dont drag the clips, but drag the sequence itself from the browser...

I'm on 4-node Linux RAC 10.2.0.3 , recently I've notice that only undo segments are showed in V$GCSPFMASTER_INFO
I know that because object_id is like 4294950913 and so .
Thats strange because I'm expecting other objects to be remastered, there is :
_gc_affinity_time                             10
_gc_affinity_limit                            50
and I can see :

Can I make only a portion of a clip slow motion

Hi,
I'm relatively new to iMovie and was wondering if this was possible. I have one clip (out of about 10) and I know how to make the whole clip slow down, but I actually only want about 3 secs to slow down. Sorry if this is an obvious funtion, but I can't seem to find an answer.

Hi willcomply - to do what you want, split the clip where you want the effect to start and end. To split a clip, select it, position the playhead, then go Command+T. Now apply the slo-mo effect to the newly created segment.

Trying to Paste Attributes - AUDIO ONLY. I copy the clip I want - then click Paste Attributes - previously a box appeared with options - now nothing appears. Only happening with AUDIO attributes. Anyone else experiencing this?

I am trying to Paste Attributes of AUDIO ONLY - from one clip to another audio clip. These are the settings for the VOICE OVER on my 15 minute project. This has worked before. However now I copy the clip I want o use the attributes from - then I selct PASTE ATTRIBUTES. In the past a new dialogue box would appear and offer me the opportunity to select the attributes or effects I wanted to COPY and PASTE. Hoever now - there is NOTHING.
I also want to REMOVE the ATTRIBUTES from 287 clips - but apparently I can only do this one at a time? That seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world. Certainly this can't be true? Is there no way to remove ALL Attrributes from all of the clips at the same time?
Anyone? Anyone?

I cannot reproduce this. It is working as expected here: select a clip, copy, select another clip (or clips), paste attributes, and I get the usual window - this works for audio only clips as well as other clips.
I suggest you try deleting FCP X preferences with Preference Manager and try again.

Select the clips you want, and delete the effects in the Inspector by selecting and hitting the delete key.

Mapping IDoc - only one Segment is mapped!

FCPX cross-dissolve on only one end of a clip?

How do you apply an effect (in this case, Cross-Dissolve) to only the beginning or end of a clip? The program automatically applies the effect to both ends of a clip, and I have to delete the one I don't want (added step, added time, time is money, blah blah blah )
Here's what I'm trying to do: I have my main storyline, and in a secondary storyline I want to fade a clip in at a certain point...but I don't want it to fade out. Adding the cross-dissolve at the beginning saves a lot more time than keyframing the opacity.
Yeah, I'll say the same thing everyone else does: "Well, that's what I did in legacy FCP. How do I do it in FCPX?"

hit cmd T but why? where has copy/cut/paste/add transition et al gone from the right click? It just seems a backward step having to use a keyboard again. Sadly I can now no longer use a programed 15 button edit shuttle/controller under my left hand and a five button hyper scroll mouse under the right. Hardly ever used the keyboard in previous versions. This has to be a backward step. Forever tippy tap on the keyboard...so so slow, wasted seconds for extra moves just to get something to happen. Are we all forgetting just how fast it was to apply a transition, copy then bang bang bang along the timeline pasting it in the joins?

Apply video effect to a segment of a clip?

I am selecting a small segment of a larger clip, when I apply a video effect like "Black & White" the effect is put on the entire clip, not the part I have selected.
Am I missing something?

Put your playhead (the yellow vertical line) where you want your effect to start, then hit command+B, then move the playhead where you want the effect to end, then hit command+B again, this will create a new stand alone clip that you can now apply your effect to without impacting the other parts of the clip.

Color only lets me select certain clips on timeline

When I tried to render my project, Color let me select all the clips in the first video line and only some of my clips in the second video line. Why is this?

What is the source media format?
Can you navigate to the source media directory, as if you were going to import the media directly? What does COLOR report, that is, how is the media identified when you find it?
Is the media on the second layer composed of independent clips?
What happens if you attempt to "Add All"? Can you individually select any of the media on the second layer and add it separately?
In the browser/shots pane, are the clips identified any differently from the others?

Is there a way to use import from camera with a cannon 7d CF card so that you can select only the parts of the clips that you want?

I used to use log and transfer and now in final cut x I know you are supposed to use import file, however you have to import the entire clip instead of being able to select an in and an out point of the footage being imported. This is not good for me because I have a limited amount of space and if I'm going to be converting everything to prores and only using 65% of the footage that is a huge waste. Any help or work arounds would be appreciated. Thanks!

I import from P2 and 7D cards daily, it's super easy, very fast, very simple, not so complicated.
Here's how you do it.
1- CF card in a card reader, mount on Desktop, or copy whole card contents to a folder. (P2 can read directly from inside cam)
2- Open "Import From Camera" in FCP X.
3- Click "Open Archive" button.
4- Point to CF card.
* FCP X will act like L&T now.
* Select a Range of a clip you want to import, click import button.
* Select a different Range of same clip, click import button.
* If you want whole clips, highlight one or more whole clips, import.
* Imports are ProRes 422 files.
* If you want a backup of the CF or P2 card "as is", click the Create Archive button.
Very simple, no need for thrid party BS. It's really simple and easy.
Canon DSLR's have never been able to mount the cards while inside the camera. You have always needed a card reader.
