Stable at 3.9Ghz, fails at 4.0ghz

Motherboard: x58M
CPU: i7930
Block: 187
Speed: 3915.8 MHz
Intelburntest shows this setting is stable, but when I crank the blck up a few more to get to 4.0, it fails and wont boot. I have all of my voltages set on auto and this has worked fine up to this point, so whats the deal here?

It can matter a lot if the PSU is not providing a continual 18 +12V amps or greater at JPWR2 under full load.
Edit: If it's the Zalman ZM750-HP, it has 20 +12V amps on each of it's '4' rails. If it was the 850W model, it was only rated at 18 +12V amps on 2 of the 6 rails, & that could have been an issue if one of those rails was not supplying enough power to JPWR2.
For a short list, it could be CPU, PSU, RAM, or the board that died, or a combination therof. The trick now is to isolate which it is.
First PSU:
Zalman zm850-HP
It says right on the side of the box that the output voltage and load rating for all 6 rails is 18A, and two of them are 20A with a peak of 24A, so I dont think its the PSU
Second PSU was simply a s12 550W with 18A across 4 rails with nothing plugged into the PSU but the motherboard just to get some kind of a response.
As for the RMA, how will they know if I OC'd it or not, honestly.

  • XP workstation services fail after 4.90 SP2 client imports

Testing for a migration from ZFD 3.2 to ZDM 6.5 on the workstation with the new Novell
    Client 4.90 SP2.
Our core XP SP1 ghost image (not OEM) restores to a Compaq D530 without issue and has
Novell Client 4.83 SP2 with the ZFD 3.2 SP2 components (WM, RM and NAL NT services)
installed on it. Allow sysprep and the post-driver and services to run and install.
    Reboot.
Login to eDirectory and install Novell Client 4.90 SP2 with NetIdentity 1.2.2 and ZFD 3.2
SP3 components (WM and RM, ZFD server is still ZFD 3.2 SP2). Reboot. Workstation is
quick and stable, logs in fine with 4.90 SP2.
Reboot again. Workstation initially appears to come up quickly then right around the time
NWGINA pops up services start to drag/fail and it'll take several minutes to get to the
point to actually enter my username and password. The enhanced GINA in SP2 detects
networking has failed and checks Workstation Only automatically. Eventually get in
Workstation Only. While the Explorer shell is responsive and appears stable, most
services have failed or are hung in the process of starting.
Stripping a box in this state of the most of its apps will bring it back close to its
original speed, but you're left with networking and in particular the TCP/IP Protocol
Driver "corrupt". As repair is not an option, I'm not aware of a way to remove and/or
    reinstall TCP/IP.
I've tried Option^Explicit Software's WinSock XP Fix with no success.
Breaking down our ACU install of 4.90 SP2 into parts and testing points back to the
reinstall of Workstation Manager as the initiator.
    Back-revving wm.exe, wmcchlpr.dll and wmpm.dll in the 4.90 SP2 install to the 4.83 SP2
(ZFD 3.2 SP2) level does not resolve.
I have a feeling that is has something to do with after the WM components registering with
the workstation and certain policies associating and coming down. But only three are
available at "Scheduler Service Startup". NAL Workstation Association Agent, NT Client
Configuration and Windows Group Policy. The Group policy is quite small and doesn't
    affect system-level stuff.
Haven't yet tried toggling them off and see what affect disabling them has.
Aside from opening a service request, any idea or anywhere else I should be looking or
    testing?
Ironically, I have the 4.90 SP2 client working without issue in this setup using HP's OEM
    image for the D530.

A combination of recreating the ZENworks Group Policies using a Windows 2000 box for
reasons described in the previous posted TID and restoring wmgrppol.dll back to the build
shipped in 4.90 SP2 (3/4/2004) prevents the issue from reocurring.
I originally back-revved wmgrppol.dll to a test build (8/7/2002) Novell sent me prior to
4.83 SP2 to work around an issue where local policies are being removed after restarting a
    workstation...
Local Group Policies are removed after updating to client updates in ZfD32SP1Client.exe

Looks like I can't have my Group Policies and ZENworks working too. That is until I move

  • Does 11.1.1.6 OBIEE simple install work properly on Windows 7 64 bit OS?

Can anyone confirm if the simple install for 11.1.1.6 simple install works normally on Windows 7 64 bit OS? I have run into a slew of issues including:
    1. hanging on the Create Domain. Stays at 0% for 2 hours and then fails
    2. Pre requisite checks do not work in a stable way (sometimes they fail and need to be ignored and other times they succeed)
I removed all Oracle software and tried a completely clean install (DB, RCU, OBIEE, etc)..I have my loopback adapter set and also have JDK.
Do we need to manually do the WLS + Software only to get this to work or does the Simple install actually work on Win 7 64 bit??
    Thanks.

According to the certification matrix, it should work: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.html
Check row 72/73 in Current System Certification. Also, what do the logs say about the errors you are facing?

  • Android API for AnyConnect ICS+ available?

Is there any other publicly available API that can be used from within Android SDK to built in Cisco VPN functionality within a third-party Android application? I would be grateful for any help. Thanks in advance!

does't suprise me at all sony needs more experienced beta testers really those that actualy use device bit more extreme then normal user would.
If something is stable in extreme conditions then its likely perfectly stable talking about actualy running lot apps leaving everything open and opening new tab for anything etc while doing normal every day tasks that everyone usualy does or more.
other then that they should probably test much longer have bit more patience while testing while perhaps testing 5 tablets at same time.
perhaps they could use some software that mirror commands they do to nearby tablets on a grid so they can even test 100 tablets at once to see which one gives in and randomly shutdown first.
or just to to have a different build on each tablet to see which one is most stable and which one fails so they can rule out bad builds.

  • Help - doesn't Arch support my computer anymore? [solved]

I had a fine Arch Linux system running on my Laptop, until yesterday's package upgrade - which pulled in xf86-video-intel-2.10.0-1. For some reason, this new version of the intel video driver now requires kernel modesetting being enabled. This puts me in the following peculiar situation:
    - without the -nomodeset boot option, the screen turns blank at udev initialization and stays that way until reboot, making Arch unusable (see this thread)
    - with the -nomodeset boot option, X now refuses to start due to the new intel video driver complaining about missing KMS
    - the xf86-video-fbdev driver doesn't work, either
    - the xf86-video-intel-stable driver from AUR fails to compile altogether
    - I don't have an older binary of xf86-video-intel in my /var/cache/pacman anymore, either
So I have three questions now:
    1) What other option do I have now to get a running Arch Linux system again?
    2) Why on earth doesn't Arch Linux keep at least one stable/legacy version for such important and at the same time fragile/error-prone packages as the intel video driver in its official repos?
    3) Who on earth decided to drop support for non-KMS-mode from the intel video driver? Was this an upstream decision, or do the Arch devs just not care about users for whom KMS doesn't work? (And the *are* many such users, see the link above...)

barzam wrote:1) What did you do to remove the cached version?
"rm /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*" is what I did... Disk space was running out, and many gigabytes of packages had accumulated there...
barzam wrote:If I bet someone can mail it to you or maybe you can do a forum search for places to get older packages.
Ok, I did a search, and finally I managed to download xf86-video-intel-2.9.1-1 from an out-of-sync mirror and downgraded to that... Everything works again...
barzam wrote:2) Maybe you should try Debian stable if that's what you need.
No, that's *not* what I'm asking for, no need for sarcasm.
    I like the rolling-release approach...
But *sometimes*, you *do* want to downgrade a specific package, and it would be nice if Arch would makes this possible without forcing you to go dumpster diving in out of sync mirror archives or some other ridiculously hackish approch (at least for a select set of critical packages, like the kernel and important drivers).
    Edit: fixed quote

Ah, ok. I was in the assumption the PCI connect had something to do with the video connection. But it seems like Apple wanted to reinvented PCIe...
I'm out of my territory here so feel free to ignore the following.
These are the things I notice in your Xorg.0.log:
    [    19.474] (==) modesetting(G0): Depth 24, (==) framebuffer bpp 32
    [    19.474] (==) modesetting(G0): RGB weight 888
    [    19.474] (==) modesetting(G0): Default visual is TrueColor
[    19.474] (II) modesetting(G0): ShadowFB: preferred YES, enabled YES
[    19.500] (II) modesetting(G0): Output VGA-1-0 has no monitor section
    [    19.526] (II) modesetting(G0): EDID for output VGA-1-0
    [    19.526] (II) modesetting(G0): Using default gamma of (1.0, 1.0, 1.0) unless otherwise stated.
    [    19.526] (==) modesetting(G0): DPI set to (96, 96)
What the hell is modesetting doing there?
And have you tried the nvidia blob? It could be that this is not well supported by nouveau. Maybe check up with their IRC / mailing list.

  • Xsan and sharing over ethernet

I'm not extremely familiar with how exactly xsan works, so please bear with me. Let's say I have 2 RAIDS and an Xserve on Xsan. Can I share the xsan volume that shows up on the server to other clients?

If you're in a pinch, you can do the secondary metadata controller for OD or sharing, just make sure you SAN is stable and isn't failing over to the backup MDC all the time.
Not sure if I understand your question about using a metadata controller if there are only 7 clients. The MDC is an essential variable in an Xsan, no matter how many clients.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Firmware upgrade Stand-Alone C-Blade network issues

    Hello,
    I recently upgraded my Stand-Alone C22 M3 blade from version 1.5.5 to version 2.0(3d)
The VIC 1225  got firmware version 4.0(1b) (old version 2.2(1b))
After the upgrade using the Host Upgrade Utility I removed all old drivers and installed the newest versions.
so far so good, but almost immediately i noticed very poor basic nateworking.
    DNS lookups fails
    pings got lost
tracerts can be instant or take forever to complete
We use this blade as a commvault backup server and both VIC 1225 Nics are in a LACP team (Status is Active)
on the host switch Nexus 5548UP there is a FC interface bind to the network interface so we have our backup libaries available on the host
Only if i keep pinging the servers i want to backup the network connection stays stable, otherwise backups will fail.
after downgrading the firmware of the vic back to 2.2(1b) everything went to normal again.
is there any explanation for this? known bug?
    Thanks,
    Ivo

You also have a etherchannel configured on your nexus 5K, isn't it right?
Take a look at the logging messages and try to find a MAC_FLAPPING message related to the servers MAC addresses.
Also check out this bug: https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuf65032.
It was corrected on the version 2.22(1b) (your old one), but it may be back on the 4.0(1b).
Try to apply the workaround suggested and see if it works.
    Cheers,
    Kauy Gabriel.

  • Cold startup windows 7 hang p55 gd65 2133MHz RAM

    Hey guys,
    Looking for some advice here,
Basically i can't get my RAM to work properly anywhere near rated speed. I have it in an overclocked i5 setup @ 3.7GHz with 185 bclk (p55 gd65 v1.0 BIOS)
Hence my memory options are 1110MHz, 1480MHz or 1850MHz depending on the multiplier.
To get the correct timings i loaded the XMP and then went to manual timings and subsequently disabled the XMP so it is running at rated 9-9-9-28, every one of the above timings should be well within specification. I have the memory @ 1.65v also.
    At 1110MHz everything is fine.
When i up it to 1480 or 1850 i get a 'cold startup bug' for lack of a better name. i.e. windows will load and then hang, generally with a blank greeny-blue screen. if i restart the machine, it runs fine from then on.  If the machine is restarted again it is fine, its only after it has been off for a significant period that i get this hang. After a restart ive prime blend tested for 15hrs without a hitch @ 1850MHz.
As everything is totally stable after this first failed load, it doesnt seem like anything is faulty per se, but just something isnt being detected correctly at this first attempt which is making me think it could be BIOS related.  I have a release day board with v1.0 and im considering m-flashing to the latest v1.5.  In v1.4 notes it states "Improved memory compatibility", could that be where my solution lies.  I fully understand the risks associated with BIOS flashing so i wanted i few opinions on the problem if at all possible before i do something i could regret.....
Cheers for any help you guys can provide!

  • MSI Neo 2 platinum with San Diego or Venice

    Hey guys,
How do you guys get high clocks (2.8ghz +) using any of the bioses for MSI neo 2 platinum EXCEPT for 1.36b for Venice or san diego?.. For all the other bioses, the max vcore is 1.55V + 10%. But even at this limit, the vcore for me is only ~1.59V as detected by the bios, MBM, CPUZ and core center. So i dont know how to give my CPU more juice without using 1.36.. I dont want to use 1.36 because it doesnt support my memory controller and my computer is unstable. I want to use a newer bios that supports san diego's, but i also want high vcore to keep my computer stable at 2.9Ghz. I have used 2.9Ghz before using 1.36 bios but i need 1.4 + 15% vcore (CPUZ and MBM report 1.62V). This was stable using prime 95 for 24hours.... ne suggestions? thanks

Here are my results with my Neo2/3000+ Venice:
I use different apps to OC in Windows after booting with safe settings that I know work. That way if I use an app and push to far, the PC will reset with safe BIOS settings. The key for getting more vcore is to not set the first setting at anything higher than 1.45v. Setting anything after that will only result in it reading as 1.45v - as in your example, where you are setting 1.55v+10% and it only reads 1.59v...That is the same as 1.45v+10%.
What you'll need to do is install Core Center. Once installed go to Start/All Programs/Start Up, and delete it from there. That will keep it from starting everytime you restart the PC, and only run when you click on the icon. Next, boot at the highest vcore you need to, or 1.45v+10% if you need all 1.59v. Once Windows has loaded open Core Center and use the voltage options there to bump it up slowly. Both my brother and I have Neo2's and I can get 1.725v, while he can get 1.78v to work, all on BIOS v1.A...Hope this helps, good luck.
Also, if you don't have them, programs like Core Center, the A64 Tweaker, and Clock Gen are very handy and work really well when OCing. Be careful and have fun!

Then, after download, the program fails to load and displays this message:  "Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem". When following the link, Adobe Support Advisor has been discontinued 'because their products are now so stable. -I can see how stable they are.. How do I get assistance with Installer issues?
    Any helpful thoughts?

  • Installation Fails on Debian Stable 64 bit

    Hi There
I have been trying to install skype for a while. The i386 architecture has already been enabled, and the repositories have been updated. I have repeated the process several times just to be sure.
During skype installation a bunch of conflicts occur and aptitude can only install skype by uninstalling most of my system, at which point I have to abort the installation. I have tried many different packages, including Ubuntu packages, old packages, old static packages, tarballs. Nothing helps. Here is the output from the terminal:

  • OC genie failed on P55-GD80, but now i7 860 is overclocked!

    My system specs:
    MSI p55-gd80
    Bios 1.5
    core i7 860
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2
2 x nvidia 9800 GT in sli mode
    2 x 2GB G Skill F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD in slots 1 and 3
Apevia ATX-IB680W-BL 680w SLI compatible power supply
    Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
The system has been running smoothly with no problems since initial build 2 weeks ago. The system came with bios version 1.4, now running bios 1.5
Build is for son's gaming system. Bought this for the OC genie function. Although I have been building systems for 10+ years, I have no OC experience, so I thought this function would be quick and safe method to get some more out of the new Core i7.
Tried to activate OC Genie, first with bios 1.4. Turned off sytem and pressed OC Genie button. Powered on system, mobo posts, bios screen appears saying OC genie enabled,  the mobo cycles thru codes (the codes next to the clock +/- buttons) beginning with FF, and then stops on 38. After a few seconds (anywhere from approximately 3-12 seconds for different attempts) on 38, the system shuts down and reboots, after 3-4 tries at this, the system will no longer even post.
We then enabled fail safe defaults in bios and tried again. Same symptoms and results, could not get to OS. We then flashed to bios 1.5, and tried again, same process, same results.
However, after we finally gave up and disabled to OC Genie, we noticed in the bios (or somehow, I don't remember) that the CPU was actually running faster than 2.8ghz, so we downloaded CPU-Z to check. What is very strange is that CPU-Z shows that the core speed of the processor is now at 3266.6, the multiplier is x18, bus speed is 181.5, and qpi link is 2903.7. It seems the board appears to be overclocked? We have not changed any settings manually, so it appears that OC genie made some changes?
What is going on here? As I said, I know nothing about OC settings or the process (although I am beginning to try to learn given my current situation). Is this board now overcloced? Based on the settings I see in CPU-Z, is it safe? Should I reset the board back to fail-safe or optimum bios settings or something else. Clear CMOS?
More important, why is OC Genie not working and how do I rectify that issue?
Thanks for the help if you have any ideas or thoughts on this issue.

    Hi Bitgod,
I see you have the same board and processor. As you can see by my posts I am a newbee to OCing. If you have a stable (and not too agressive) OC that you are satisfied with, wondering if you could post here your bios changes for your OC so I could try them.
I didn't try the Genie with less ram or a single video card as you suggested, that might be a solution, but as I read more about OCing to try to get a handle on things it does seem that a better solution in my case (since OC Genie fails to work properly with my configuration?) is to do things manually.
I agree with the Control Center comment also. My son was in there right after we put the system together. When he closed the program the system rebooted and would not post. We had to reset cmos to get it back up...
    Rick
Sure, here's some screen shots of my settings.  I'm not aggressively OCing, I'm happy enough with 3.6Ghz and I'm going to play it safe because of the Foxconn socket controversy, I didn't want to get into the 1.4v range, so I hope by staying at 1.26v, that I should be avoiding any socket/CPU issues. (not all GD80s have Foxconn sockets, but mine does)  These pics are from the 1.6b7 BIOS.
I don't have a screen shot of the OC Genie settings because those got wiped when I updated my BIOS, but I wrote down the numbers, so here's some for comparison...to get it clocked at 3.546Ghz, OC Genie was using 1.4v on the CPU, 1.399 on the VTT, had my DRAM at 1.740, and was using a frequency of 197 and a ratio of 18.  All the things disabled in the first pic were disabled by OC Genie also.  That was using the 1.4 BIOS, so they may have tweaked things for the better in the 1.5
At those power settings, I could probably manually get my CPU to at least 4.0Ghz.  My RAM is capable of doing 1600Mhz at stock speeds.  I made one attempt at getting them to run in the 1700Mhz range by using a different memory ratio, but that didn't last under testing, so for now I'm just fine at running above the "normal stock" 1333 speed.  Once I've gotten through the ton of new games to play, maybe I'll try tweaking the system some more.
Now someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you can do any combination of CPU base frequency and multiplier to get any clock you want, but what you have to keep in mind is the memory speed, which you get from the base frequency and the memory ratio, so you'll want to use something your RAM can handle.  When in doubt, go low, stress test it, and if it's stable, then you can start going higher to see what you can get.  Don't forget to use the feature to save your BIOS settings, if you find something that works, save it, then you can always fall back to that when you start playing with the system.
