Stack animation in Lightroom 1.1

Lightroom 1.1 has a nice feature while stacking images. An animation flips the images together. That looks nice but slows the process down, because you need to wait for the next stack until the animation has been finished.
Does someone has an idea how to switch this feature off ?

Create a new master catalog or open an existing catalog that you want to be the master then use the "Import from Catalog" command (File menu) to import your other catlogs into the master.

  • Stacks Animation Bumpy After 10.5.2 Update- Only in Applications Stack

For some reason, after I updated to Mac OS X 10.5.2, the stacks animation [only in the Applications folder] has became extremely jerky. Is there a fix for this, or am I stuck with a bumpy animation?
Thank you so much for your help everyone!

PS- Here's a file with a video of it. This is exactly how it looks to me.
    It's only 1.09 MB.

I have noticed this right from the start with Leopard. In my case it seems to depend on the number of items in the folder. If a folder has more than a certain number of items (thirty or so?) the animation becomes jerky. If you hold the shift key while opening a stack you get a slo mo view of the effect. When I was in my local Apple store I checked on one or two of the computers on display there out of curiosity and they exhibited the same behaviour. It's no biggie in the great scheme of things - just a mild annoyance that a future update will probably cure.

  • Adobe Edge generated animations won't play on Android Devices (PDF Stack animation only iOS)

    Hi,
I'm was using Adobe Edge 1.0.1.204.X (Windows 7 64bit) to generate a simple animation in order to export it as OML and place it in Adobe Indesign CS6 (Windows 7 64bit).
    The animation is as follows:
    Backgroundpicture (1024x768) fades in
    Three textboxes fade in one-after-one
Then I exported the Edge-Project as .OML and placed (CTRL-D) it on my Indesign Folio.  When I try to test the Folio locally on my Windows machine it throws the following error: PDF-Stack only supported by iOS Devices. Then I tried it on my Android Phone and it threw the same error. Does Adobe plan to integrate the PDF-Stacks into Windows and/or Android Viewer?
    Best
    Marcel

PDF format is not supported on Android, save your folio as jpg or png.
By the way everything you describe can be easily done in DPS, andy reason to be doing it in Edge Animate? just curious :-)

  • Importing stacks from Bridge to Lightroom

Hi all. I am looking to convert and import my photos from Adobe Bridge to Lightroom. In doing so however I haven't been able to maintain the stacks that I've created in Bridge (i.e. have the stacks show in Lightroom). Is this simply not possible? Can I get Lightroom to import the Bridge catalogue information some how?

There's really no benefit to using two different photo management programs, Bridge and Lightroom. Furthermore, if you are using Lightroom, you ought NOT to be moving or rating or managing your photos in Bridge in any way. Lightroom is not a file browser, it does not know when you move photos in another program.
You assign stars in Lightroom; you manage/organize photos in Lightroom preferably by assigning keywords and other metadata, but if you absolutely must move them to a different folder (which I don't recommend), you do that in Lightroom too. Specifically in this case, the Filter Bar in Lightroom allows you to find any photos with a specified number of stars (for example, all 5 star photos) without you actually having to move them to a different folder.
To fix the existing problem, each photo that has been moved has either a question-mark icon or an exclamation point icon. The way you fix the problem is to point at the question-mark or exclamation point icon and then a dialog box will ask you to find the photo in your folder hierarchy. More details are here: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

  • New Nikon Workflow with Lightroom

Just thought I would share my new workflow with everyone, in case anyone is not happy with the raw conversion provided by Lightroom and would rather use Capture NX to do the raw conversion on their files, but still use Lightroom for cataloging and ranking their photos (as well as exporting for web, etc).
    1. Copy all photos from memory card into a folder on your computer.
    2. Import the photos from your filesystem, using the "Copy photos to a new location and import" option. This is so you can work with a copy of the original, rather than the original.
    3. Do your normal process for choosing which photos you would like to take the time to process, and which you would like to just throw away. I use the pick/rejected flags for mine.
    4. Filter your photos by flag status, so only the picks are showing.
    5. Export your picks to a temporary folder somewhere. This is where you will do all your Capture NX processing. I call this folder "Lightroom to Capture Transfer". You want to choose the option to export the original file. I created an export preset called "Export For Capture NX" with these settings in it to make it easier in the future.
    6. Open the "Lightroom to Capture Transfer" folder in Capture NX using the built in file browser, and do all your raw adjustments to exposure compensation, white balance and noise reduction. All of which I find works better in Capture than in Lightroom. Save all your changes back into the same NEF file since Capture can save to the NEF format. Remember this file is just a copy of the original so we don't need to worry about making changes to our original raw file here. NOTE: Do NOT apply any sharpening here inside Capture since sharpening should be done at the end of your workflow. I shoot with my camera sharpening set to "None". If you haven't done this, you should set all your photos to sharpening "None" as part of your batch process in step 8 below.
    7. Set up a watched folder in Lightroom called "Lightroom Auto Imported Photos", and enable Auto Import.
    8. In Capture, create a batch process you can use to convert all your adjusted raw NEFs to tiff format. You will point the batch export to your Lightroom watched folder. As Capture batch converts all your raws to tiff, Lightroom will be importing them into your catalog.
    9. Now you should have a folder inside your Lightroom catalog called "Lightroom Auto Imported Photos". Open that folder, select ALL the photos in the folder and hit "P" to mark them all as picks. Trust me on this one. =)
    10. Now within Lightroom, drag all the photos at once into the folder containing your imported photos from step 2. You should see all your tiffs beside all your raw NEFs. And since you have a filter turned on to only show your picks in this folder, all your other non pick original raw files will be hidden.
    11. Again, select ALL the photos in this folder and "Stacking -> Auto Stack by Capture Time." In the dialog, drag the slider down to 1 second. This should for the most part stack all the same nefs with the corresponding tiffs. Unless you were doing a ton of burst shooting. In which case you can manually stack them. Lightroom seems to always put the original NEFs on the top of the stack.
    12. Select all the photos again, and "Stacking -> Move Down in Stack". This will bring all your processed tiffs to the top of the stack, and hide the nefs. This is exactly what you want. From here on out, you will be working on the tiffs.
    13. Do any final processing to your photos inside Lightroom. Saturation, cropping, spot removal, etc. I also do all my key-wording here. NOTE: I do not do ANY sharpening inside Lightroom because I've found the sharpening just doesn't do it for me personally. I will do all sharpening later in Photoshop after I export them from Lightroom. Your mileage may vary.
    14. Once my photos look the way I want, I then export them to JPEG. I have set up a Photoshop droplet fo

    14. Once my photos look the way I want, I then export them to JPEG. I have set up a Photoshop droplet for Lightroom that will then do all my sharpening after export.
That's it! I know it sounds like a lot of steps, but once you've done it a couple of times it goes by really quick. I'm really loving most things about Lightroom in terms of its cataloging and export options. But the image quality of the Lightroom raw conversions just isn't there yet. I've found by integrating both Capture NX and Lightroom I can get top quality results while still gaining advantage of Lightroom's many nice features. It took me a few days of exploration and experimentation to nail down the optimal workflow for my needs. Hopefully this will help some others out and maybe give them some ideas of their own toward a better workflow.
Please feel free to share your thoughts or own experience on all of this.
Thanks to Tony Long for his suggestion in this thread, which caused me to go on a search for the optimal Lightroom/Capture workflow: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?7@@.3bc719df/3

  • Moving a method down the call stack

This is partially a blazeds question as well, which I have already inquired about there.
My situation is that I have a consumer.subscribe followed by the rpc, followed by the consumer expected to handle the results of the rpc.  What seems to be happening is a race condition between the subscribe and the rpc call - with the results being returned back before some of teh consumers have finished subscribing.  This is all being handled in one method.  For the most part, it needs to be encapsulated like this because we're using the parsley IoC container.  By creating a new context on a button click, it automatically instantiates and initalizes the consumers.  A retrievedataevent is then fired straight away.
Is there anyway around this?  I noticed that if i create a Timer and set it to 1 millisecond, it somehow fixes itself.  Does timer somehow drop the current method down the callstack?  Or deprioritize it?
Thanks in advance.  I'm banging my head against the wall here

This is the way that Aperture works by design - you just need to get comfortable with album picks, every album can have a different album pick from the same stack, it will be the image that shows up at when the stack is closed.
    These may help

  • Just updated lightroom to 3.6 images wont open in develop modual

I just update lightroom to version 3.6 from the last current version. I am on a Mac pro operating system 10.6.8. Everything appeared to be normal until I tried to open an image in the develop module and nothing happens and the program freezes with the lovely spinning rainbow wheel and the program must be forced to quit. What's up? not very happy as I have a lot of work to do. Please advise

To update, we haven't been able to reproduce this yet internally, so we don't have a cure yet, sorry. Dave C. was kind enough to send me some sample files but the problem wouldn't show here. Interesting update that some of you are breaking through by waiting it out.
For those of you seeing this, a few questions:
    1. Is the CPU busy (high or wildly fluctuating) or idle during this time? To check:
Mac:Go into Applications/Utilities and launch Activity Monitor. Find Lightroom in the list, and note the CPU column.
Win: Right-click on the Windows task bar to bring up Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, find Lightroom.exe and note the number in the CPU column.
    2. Are you using a special monitor profile? One you've calibrated yourself?
    3. If someone on Windows could try getting a stack dump when Lightroom is in this stuck state, that would rock. (Mac is good too, just harder to instruct on.) Here's how to do it on Windows:
    a. Right click the Windows task bar at the bottom of the screen to bring up Task Manager.
    b. From either the Applications or Processes tab, find Lightroom.exe.
    c. Right-click that and choose "Create dump file". It will tell you where it put a file called Lightroom.DMP
    d. Find that file and send it to me (jkmoch at adobe dot com). They can get quite big; Dropbox is probably the easiest way to get it to me.
Thanks, and apologies that this is taking some time to straighten out.

  • "Edit In" Improvements

I've encountered two major annoyances attempting to use the "Edit In" external application feature.
    1)
Assume we have the image filename: img_0001.cr2
When using the "Edit In" feature, Lightroom generates the file by default: img_0001-edit.tif
Now, when we try to do any export operations on this file and use the "Original File Number" as part of the destination file name template, the number is completely ignored due to the append "-edit".
It would be nice to have Lightroom specifically test for the '-edit' prefix and attempt to pull a numerical entity right before it, if the image does not end in a numeric.
    2)
The particular external editing application that I'm using does *NOT* support saving Exif or XMP data at all. Once I save my changes in that application and return back to Lightroom, my metadata for the image is completely lost. It would be nice if I could use the Metadata syncronization tool to sync more than editable fields if the destination image has no data at all.
Basically, when I save using this app, I lose my camera/lens information and settings. Now when I attempt to export this edited Tiff image, I have no Exif data. It would be nice to be able to recover the Exif data from the original RAW/JPG file, especially since they're already auto-stacked together by Lightroom.

    re 1)
In Preferences|External Editing you have the ability to define the edited filename. The full capabilities of the Filename Template Editor can be used to make it many things other than the default which is giving you problems.

  • Problem with Exporting/Stacking in Lightroom 5.2

I have used stacks in Lightroom for a long time but I am now having a problem. My typical workflow is to process RAW images in the Develop Module then Export them as JPG files. I choose "export to same folder as original" and I check "add to this catalogue" and "add to stack above original". Until recently this has worked well - the RAW and JPG files appeared as a stack in the catalogue. Now, when I go back to Library I do not see the JPG files in the catalogue and there are no stacks being created. (I can see that the JPG files are appearing in the same folder as the original RAW files as I intend them to do.)
An additional observation is that stacks that were previouly created are not behaving normally. When I split a stack, the stack status is compleley lost - the number in the upper left corners are gone.
How can I fix these problems?

If you're a beginner this might be helpful.
    Capture Sharpening
Make sure you are using LR's 1:1 Zoom view when adjusting Sharpening and Noise Reduction. A Sharpening Amount in the range of 25 to 50 with the default 1.0 Radius and 25 Detail works well with most "normal" images. Adobe increased the Sharpening Amount from 100 to 150 to provide additional sharpening when using high Mask settings. You shouldn't need to set the Amount higher than 100 when Masking = 0. Even with Masking I've never required Sharpening Amount higher than about 75.
    Noise Reduction
If you have visible noise in the image after sharpening, increase the Luminance NR from the 0 default. If color noise is visible increase Color NR as well. You may then need to go back and increase Sharpening slightly–It's a trade-off of low-noise vs sharpness. This procedure is normally only required with images shot at high ISO settings. Images shot at ISO 100-400  should have minimal visible noise at 1:1 view and require very little more than the default LR settings.
    Output Sharpening & Resizing
With today's high-megapixel cameras full-size Exports are not required for most purposes and simply create larger file sizes. When resizing images during Export it is important to add 'Output Sharpening' to match the target usage (prints or screen viewing). This has much more effect on the resized file's image sharpness than LR 'Capture Sharpening' used alone. If you do Export images full-size for use in other applications Output Sharpening is normally not required.
    Cheers,
    Todd

Happening since I went to the 4.0b9 beta. Thanks for any help in getting rid of it.

They're still working on fixing that Bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=608589 - a fix for another Bug - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=613888 - landed earlier this week which might have fixed it. Unless you are willing to install a nightly Trunk which has the latest fixes, you'll have to wait for 4.0b10 for the fix.

  • Expanding stacks loses files from Lightroom - help!

I've just discovered the delights of stacking, and have stacked brackets in several folders. The first time I expanded these (via Photo > Stacking > expand all stacks), in order to rename all the files in the folder, it worked fine. However since then, when I expand a stack (either via the contextual menu or the keyboard shortcut) the stacked files disappear and only the top image exists, according to Lightroom. I have to reimport the stacked files at their current location for them to be accessible in Lightroom. This has happened in two separate sessions, yesterday and today (i.e. quitting and relaunching, and restarting the computer don't help). What on earth am I doing wrong? I'd really like to use this feature, but this gremlin makes it unusable.
I'm using version 1.2 on an Apple Mac with OS 10.4.9 (my files are unedited NEF files).

Turn your filters off. It is likely some of the images in your stacks have different ratings to the top one.

  • Lightroom doesn't stack photo with original back to lightroom when finished editing in photoshop

    Hi, hope someone can help.
My lightroom isn't broken, just an annoying thing is happening.
When I used to edit in photoshop, I would finish, photoshop would ask if I wanted to save changes, I would, then when I went back to lightroom the edited photo was right there next to the original raw (a tiff).
Now it doesn't show in lightroom.
I can get the tiff into lightroom by going to import, finding in the folder where the original raw file is and importing.
I have checked under settings, and the 'stack with original' is checked.
Just wondered if I had messed a setting somewhere.
    Thanks for you help
    Paul

    Thanks for your help 007.
I got it working, I reinstalled lightroom and it was still the same, no re-imports of edited photo's.
So here's what I did. I changed the file type when editing in photoshop to PSD (in preferences), and that worked. So I changed it back to TIFF and that works now too.
    Cheers

  • I have Lightroom 5 and am trying to create some HDR Images for my Real Estate Business. I do not have the option to even be able to stack my photos. My headings are: Lightroom- File-Edit-Window-Help. Why does it not give me the option to be able to Stack?

Can i stack JPEG images or do they have to be Raw Files? The other help videos I have seen have the shortcut CommandG to stack, mine does not respond that command nor do i have a heading labeled Photos.

In order to stack images they must be all highlighted as a group. And the group must be contiguous, in other words next to each other. However, if you are talking about stacking images for the purposes of creating an HDR image, that cannot be done using Lightroom. You will need Photoshop or some other software with HDR capabilities in order to do that. It is possible to stack any file type or combination of file types, including  virtual copies.

  • Lightroom 3 breaks stacks when moving them

Can anyone else confirm with me that if you move a collapsed stack of images to another folder, that it will only move the top image and unstack all the images? I've tried this is windows and mac. I reinstalled lightroom 2 on a new computer and it does not do this.
    Thanks

    Same problem using an iMac.
With LR 2 selecting files then moving them with drag and drop moved only the visible files, but when you later moved the remaining members of stacks to the new folder, stacks were still intact.
With LR 2 right clicking on a new folder and selecting move selected files to this folder moved the entire contents of any stack even when lower files in the stack were not visible and selected.
With LR 3, you must open and select every member of a stack in order to move the files and keep the stacking from being destroyed.
Since I have tens of thousands of files in thousands of stacks, I am very irritated with this change or bug and look forward to its repair.
