Stacked Views

I have a stacked view which is smaller than the view it overlays and I'm wondering if there is a way to gray out or disable the underlying canvas when I show my stacked canvas?
Any help would be appreciated.

I dont think this is possible. What you could do is instead of creating stacked canvas, to create content canvas an put it on to the new window set as Modal.

Right-click on the folder icon on the dock where you put it. Change it from 'Display As: Folder' to 'Display As: Stack'.
After that you'll be all set.

Applying star rating/color label to "Current Pick" in Stack View mode

is there a way of applying both the five-star rating, AND the green color label at the same time, with one keyboard shortcut, or otherwise?
If you need to do this in exactly one action, then I don't think there is a way to do this. Of course, if you want to accomplish this in two actions, you can select all the 5 star images, and then apply the Green color label to them all in one step, but that isn't what you asked for.
Is there any way to make my five-star rated photos more visually prominent in the grid view?

ANother thought is to create a smart collection of your 5 star images, and then you can use the smart collection to view the 5-star images (none of the other images will appear)

How to rate first image in stack view?

I am looking for the way to rate the first shot in stack view. It is outlined in yellow and the "selected shot" is in white.
Even right clicking on the actual photo and trying to change the rating only makes the rating on the "selected" shot.
What if the first shot is the best? What if I don't want to rate all of them or change the others?
How do I rate the first shot without getting out of stack view or without changing the order?

Sorry, but if I understand the program (which I may not) you cannot. By definition, the first image in your stack is your "pick" and therefore a "5". Maybe none of the "pros" that Apple consulted ever needed to use a shot that was less than a "5". I guess its only the incompetent few of us (like me) that ever needed just to make the best of an indifferent group (thank you Photoshop).
You might try not rating any of the group at all (haven't tried), at least your "pick" wouldn't be a "5".
Kidding aside, I would like to be able to accomplish the same thing. Ideally, a pick should be different from a rating.

"Soft Crashes" in Stacks View

At some point almost every time I use Stacks View to make picks- which is often- I come to a point that I would call a Soft Crash. I've been experiencing this for quite some time, and I'm just now getting around to posting it.
It usually happens when I hit Command+Back Slash to elevate an image to stack pick. The interface remains active: I can cycle through views, exit Stacks View Mode, select other thumbnails and access the menus; but the same images remain displayed on both displays. When I exit Stacks View Mode, the green outline disappears on the primary monitor but remains on the secondary monitor. Still, I cannot change what is displayed or do any other work. Also, the thumbnails will show my new stack pick, but the viewer will show the images as they were before the key stoke.
The only thing I can do to get out is to relaunch the app. Usually no force quit is required, but this last time it hung while updating previews. Also this time, I found I had left Dreamweaver and Safari running in the background. Of course, Dreamweaver isn't always present when this happens, but I'm far more likely to forget to quit Safari. I'll have to see if it ever happens w/o Safari running. (I do make an effort not to have Safari running in the background as some contributors say it causes problems w/A3)
There are no steps I can execute to replicate this. It just seems to happen after working in Stacks View for a while.

My guess is it's some combination of dual monitor and full-screen. I've experienced very similar behavior just labeling or rating images. My working hunch (i.e.: I have not looked into this -- I just avoid it) is that somehow Aperture loses the input made on one of the two active monitors.
Do you ever experience the problem when launching with and using only one monitor?
Added: as for Stacks mode, I've seen regular peculiarities when rejecting all but one image in a Stack. I put Stacks mode in the same basket as some other shiny Aperture gems: cut but not yet polished.
Also added: More voodoo: I thought I had traced a problem to having Safari in the background, which may or not be the case. The one thing which seems to really help keep a good installation running smoothly (on my machine) is turning off "Share Previews with iLife and iWork".

Corrupted icons in stack view

If I drag a new application into my Applications folder and than open the Applications stack on my dock the icon for the program that I just put into the Applications directory usually shows up corrupted in fan, grid and list view. It shows up as a blank icon with a circle/slash through it. If I reboot the system it shows up properly. Extremely annoying. Does anyone else have this issue?

I see the same behavior. in fact, I see it on my leopard systems too. not sure what's going on here. seems like a bug to me. but you don't have to restart to fix it. just recreate the Applications stack and the icons will display correctly.

you can do this with two diffrent way. first one and also simple one is add a sorting column to your table and insert numbers to column according to your demand, and use this cloumn to sort in dashboards, also dont forget to hide this clolumn.

Previews not loading in grid view (stacks) 10.6.3

Hi, I am having a rather odd bug with stacks: everything works just dandy (previews load) unless I look at a certain folder. If I navigate to the folder (in stack view) it will load maybe 80% of the item previews and then just stop (it loads different ones each time). After I have done this, no preview for anything will load other than folder icons (in stacks, that is), unless I log-out log-in or restart. I have tested this many times, and it is consistent. Cover flow still works, even after stack previews have stopped appearing. An annoyance really, but I still would like to fix it if possible, so thanks in advance for any ideas.

That's the point to where I was getting - without icon previews, the default icon for .m4v files should be the following:
(This was just taken from my wife's MacBook Pro, still on iTunes 10.6.2 but running Snow Leopard 10.6.8)
Under Lion (10.7.4) and iTunes 10.6.3, the default icon (no previews) is empty white, which I do not believe should be - I had the above generic icon for .m4v files in Lion under 10.6.2.
Yet iTunes-associated audio files are fine: (from my iMac)

Stacked canvas not visible in Content view???

I am following Oracle Forms Interactive Workbook and have downloaded a solution which involves implementing a scrolling stacked canvas. When looking at the solution I can see the scrolling stacked canvas items in the layout editor when the content canvas is selected. But when i look at MY form in the layout editor and do the same the only way i can see the stacked canvas items is by choosing STACKED in the object viewer.
So how do i view the content canvas with the stacked canvas items/frame together.
Presently when i run the form I see both no problem but the placement of the stacked canvas items is askew so i need to see both together in editior mode.

Many thanks for that and I should have known but would have chased my tail for ages. Just one thing how do you subsequently deselect the stacked view. When I go to "View" --> "Stacked Views" and select the view to show it shows, great, but how on earth do i deselect it? I have tried everything.

Stacks/Fan View don't update (Stack as Folder)

Hello.
After updating to 10.5.2 and setting the Stack View to Folder, my Downloads Stack doesn't update when downloading new files.
The new file is not shown but the file on top of the Fan loses their description/name. With every download/new file which should appear but doesn't, one file on top loses the name.

If i use Stack instead of Folder, everything works just fine.
Switching to Stack and back to Folder solves the problem for a short while but when i download more than one file, this problem occours again.
Has anybody a solution for this problem?

Reverse the order of stacks list view

Is there a way to reverse the order when viewing the contents of a stack in list view by date added?
For example, the downloads stack: the default setting puts the most recently added at the top of the list, meaning I have to scroll up to it, rather than at the bottom, where it'd be right there above the icon to click on.

The regular stacks view is viewable in this (very practical) direction, so why not the list variety?

View stack creation policy

I have a view stack named myViewStack. Now within the view
stack i have components when i switch between the view stack views
I want each component's creation complete to be executed. The
myViewStack creationPolicy is set to all once a user logs into the

The problem is in one view stack page i have a drop down list
that you can select different companies then in the other viewstack
page it has a display of charts. So lets say the drop down country
list is in selectedIndex=1 the charting is in selectedIndex=2 when
i select different companies from the dropdown component in
selectedindex=1 it will change the data in selectedindex=2

I'm getting the stacked view of Study Site ID correctly but I want Single Line for Planned Subject .
Currently I'm getting multiple line .
Eg for 2001/03 I'm getting line at 50 in yellow colour
for 2001/04 I'm getting a line at 150 in different color since it has 3 Study-Site ID's But the desired output is Single Line at 50
As per 11g doc this is not possible because there is some upgradation in the nature of the graph
" Stacked line-bar graphs in which 2 or more measures are shown as lines on the same axis and are not stacked in 10g are stacked in 11g."

Why can I not browse into subfolders in a stack?

I used to be able to browse subfolders from a stack. For example, if you look at this screenshot of someone elses doc stack - mine used to look like this:
Note the little arrow in the top left corner. If you browse into one of the subfolder, it opens in the stack view, and you can browse it's contents.
Suddenly, though, my stacks have lost this ability.
Behold the following image:
Note the *absence* of the little arrow at top right? And if I click on a subfolder - nothing happens. Nothing at all. If I click a file it will open in the default program, but if I click a folder ... nada. zip. not a blamed thing happens.
What have I done to bork this up? More imprtantly - how do I fix it?
It's killing my because I keep all my remote desktop sessions organized in subfolder attached to my dock as a stack so I can quickly launch them, but as things stand - it don't work no more because I can't get into my neatly organised subfolders from my dock! Woe is me...
Has anyone else seen this behaviour in their dock? More importantly - does anyone know what I can do to get the default behaviour back?

Stacked Canvas issue

1st issue:-
I have created 3 pages layout under same .fmb
Out of those , page1 I have made in content canvas & 2 layout(Say page2 & page3) I have made in two different stack canvas.Page1 contain two text field- 1.NAME 2. PROFILE CODE.
when user open it page1 (content canvas) & page2 (1st stack canvas) should show .For a specific value in PROFILE CODE (say JAPAN) profile code (page1+page3) should open.& for all other profile codes (page 1+page2) should remain,irrespective of whatever value in NAME.
Please tell me how can I do this??
1. Please help me with a sample code & also where (in which trigger) I should write the condition.
2. What all changes are required in property palette?
3. will both the canvas will be on the same window?
2nd issue:-
I have tried
In the Object Navigator, under the Canvases node, double-click the content canvas' object icon. In the Layout Editor, choose View | Stacked Views.
and could see both the page1+page2 there from layout editor.
BUT while I run it its showing only the page1(content canvas)
Please help me out.....

If I put it like this In WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger check the PROFILE CODE and display the stacked canvas based on the value in PROFILE CODE---
Then content canvas will be shown first(Page1) ,then user will select profile code, depending upon the profile code selected ,either page2 (stacked canvas) or page3(stacked canvas) will be shown.
But I want whenever user opening the form ,page1 & page2 should show by default.then user will select profile code.if profile code is for page2 ,it should stay in that (default) page only.If profile code is for page3 then it will automatically go to page3 along with page1.
