Stacks and exporting to Flickr

I'm fairly sure this is pilot error, but I can't see where I'm going wrong...first, let me describe what I want to do.
I have a RAW image called "A.NEF" (Nikon D300 RAW). I want to edit it externally in CS5 (could be any editor). When it comes back to Aperture, I now have a file called A.TIF. I really want those to be stacked together - sometimes I shoot multiple images of the same thing (different settings, etc.), so I might have "A", "B", "C", etc. It's really important for me to know that the TIF file came from "A". By the way, I end up having to change the version name for A.TIF because otherwise, it gets posted to Flickr as A.TIF instead of a 'real' name.
So - I stack A.NEF and A.TIF. Great. I have Aperture set up to sync to Flickr, and I created an album called "Aperture Uploads". I highlight A.TIF and drag it into the "Aperture Uploads" album. Now, here is where the crushing disappointment begins... :-((
It ends up dragging the entire stack into the album, not just the one I had highlighted. This means that the original A.NEF and the A.TIF both get uploaded to Flickr. I've also found some odd behavior here - sometimes both of them get uploaded, sometimes it's only one, but there's no consistency.
Can I stack pictures yet still drag a single image from the stack into a Flickr album?

I've had this problem as well, and have basically given up on using the Flickr or Facebook built-in exporting. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I just export to my desktop, then upload those to Flickr, Picassa, Facebook or whatever from there.
It seems when I had Flickr and Facebook photo albums in Aperture, they were constantly being updated when nothing had changed on those pictures, and continued even after I found and unchecked the "Automatically check for new published albums" the preferences.
Good luck!
Jeff

  • How do I select one version from multiple stacks and export?

I have a color copy and B&W copy of 800 images. I want to export the B&W versions only. How do I select just the B&W versions in the stack at one time without having to click on 800 images?

If you check the filenames, you'll see that the versions have a version name tagged on the end, like "Version 2" when I did a quick monochrome mix of one of my own. Make a smart album with the search term set for text being "Version 2" and you should end up with all the b&w versions. That is, assuming you made them all in the same way and they're all Version 2 versions. Since the initial version would not have the term "Version" attached, you could make the search term "Version" and it would fill with all the 2nd and 3rd et al. versions.
Just a thought. Give it a try.

  • Aperture 3 Display Bug and Export to Flickr Bug

Has anyone else experienced this issue, and if so what systems do you have and what graphics card are you using?
The issue is the way images are displayed in Aperture. There seems to have been a change in the anti-aliasing between 2 and 3 so than now images with strong highlights display nasty aliasing artefacts and black ringing around highlight edges. It's as if Images are being over-sharpened. Also, when you first move to an Image it displays perfectly fine while it’s loading then when it’s finished it pops into the over sharp aliased version.
I'm having this issue on my iMac 24" running a ATI RadeonHD2600. It seems to only show when the onscreen display is zoomed out to 25% or less. If you go to fullscreen the artefacts disappear on landscape oriented images but remain on portrait. If you zoom in, once you pass a certain zoom factor they disappear.
I have posted some samples of the artefacts here - as well as what they should look like.
    http://www.thomas-fitzgerald.net/2010/04/28/aperture-3-is-really-ticking-me-off/
    and here
    http://theapertureblog.com/2010/03/29/aperture-display-bug/
The bigger issue is that when exporting using the built in fickr tool it uses the same antialiasing and so over sharpens and degrades images the same way.
The problem is not always apparent and it really only shows with images containing high contrast areas, particularly if they clip to white. I would really like to know if this is limited to certain graphics cards as I've talked to someone who has this issue when using the faster gfx card on their macbook pro but not when they turn on the slower one.
If I need to upgrade my mac to make this issue go away then so be it but I'd really like to hear form others who may have seen it?

I have had issues with Aperture's anti-aliasing performance in the Viewer since version 1.5.
To summarize, Aperture's Viewer produces quite jagged edges from Canon RAW files compared to Preview's and Lightroom's renderings of the exact same files. There doesn't seem to be any radical improvements with the 3.x upgrades, and aliasing performance didn't seem to be affected by the updates to Apple's Canon RAW converter (I reprocessed). Images that I had a problem with are still problematic.
I thought that [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=669881&tstart=0] referring to Aperture 1.5 laid out the issues pretty clearly and I was surprised at how little other users were affected by it (or so I infer from the number of responses.)
Until your post I had not looked specifically at Aperture 3.x. I haven't been able to exactly reproduce the issues I had (so many versions ago...) in Aperture 1.5 and it seems the situation has improved a bit.
Aperture still produces a much sharper rendering than Preview, though the aliased edges are not as prominent. To recap from Aperture 1.5:
And here's what I see in Aperture 3 on the same image:
Which looks about the same to me on near-horizontal lines, but much better on the high-contrast vertical lines (check upper left corner of the frame).
And today's Preview 5.0.2 rendering of the RAW image is even softer and less contrast-y than back in the day:

I'm experiencing the same problem. Don't think I can help, but maybe I can offer an explanation. It looks as if Flickr has changed their API and Adobe will need to update the export plugin to comply to get it working again. I found this announcement on Flickr:

  • Export Options_Automatic Stacking and File Size control

There is a big hang-up in work flow, and I'd assume it's the same for many professional photographers.
It would be great to be able to Export an edited photo (tiff, psd, jpg, RAW), and during the export be able to specify maximum file size (as you can control in Photoshop's Save to Web command), and then also be able to have Lighroom automatically stack the exported image with the original.
This is a big hang-up when you're finished editing multiple sized copies due to different media, and then you have the final web-sized image for your photo gallery. CUrrently, I have to go to Save to Web in Photoshop, and then save it to my desktop. Then I have to manually import that compressed jpg into Lightroom, and put it into the original library or collection.

Yes, the ability to export to a given file size would be awesome for those of us who post many images to the web.
Also, being able to export and automatically add the exported file to my catalogue (Same as when you edit in PS) stacked with the original, would really aid my workflow.

  • Duplicates in Stacks and other Editing in the Finder

I am a new Aperture 2 user and I am loving it so far!
What I am wondering is if there is a way to make duplicates in a stack show up in the finder? I have noticed that the only files in the finder are masters... is there a way to show the duplicates at least?
At the very least - I would like to be able to use some events as a screensaver or desktop. In sys prefrences, the album shows up, and all the edited photos appear as they should, but still - the duplicates are not there.
Do I need to un-stack the photo's to accomplish this?
    Thanks =]

    Two things:
1- You can't show edited versions in the Finder because they don't exist outside of Aperture (unless you've created a TIFF file by using Dodge and burn or another plugin or editor). This is why it's a non-destructive editor: your adjustments are just sets of instructions saved in an xml file and applied on the fly by Aperture when you view the picture. The only thing you can see in the Finder are your masters. If you want to use edited versions you first need to export them.
2- The iLife browser only shows files for which Aperture has created a preview. Make sure the files you want to use as screensaver or desktop pic contain a preview (try dragging it to your desktop: if the preview is there you'll see a green + sign appear signifying it'll be copied. If no sign appears, you don't have a preview). You can set Preview generation in Aperture's preferences or generate them manually.
But I'm struggling with your definition of duplicates: what exactly do you mean by that? If you're talking about different versions of the same file (with varying settings), then they're called versions. In fact the entire Aperture workflow is based on versions, stacks and picks. Duplicates would be the exact same picture, without any changes.
Not trying to be snotty here btw, just want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly!

  • Missing location data when exporting to Flickr

I am running Yosemite on a new MacBook Pro using the latest version of iPhoto. I noticed that the location data (Places) which I painfully added in to each photo does not translate over when I export to Flickr. Everything else translates with no issues. I use the Share function directly from iPhoto application, not using a 3rd party app. I've use this method of export/sharing for years and location data has not been an issue before.

    Hi Sumit
Try to set the URL field with the RTF format. To do this try following:
    1. Right click the field->Format Field.
    2. Click the paragraph tab->Text Interpretation->RTF Text
    Now try to export it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Export to flickr not creating a set

I thought that the new Flickr export was supposed to create a set for the album when it exported to Flickr, but when I do the export the photos come thru without being in a set.
    Am I missing something?

You took the correct first steps (good for you), the next thing to try is to create a new Account and test GB from there.

  • RAW and Exported Jpegs in same catalog

I use lightroom to import raw files from my Nikon. Then i edit them and export the good ones to jpeg on my network share for viewing. When i import jpegs from my compact camera i import them directly to my network share. Before i always had the jpegs in to the same catalog just under the other path. But now with face recognitioning i get the face from both places with the exported ones. Is there a way to stack the jpeg with the raw file so that they only show once?

Raw and Jpeg next to each other can be treated as the same file, but only if they are in the same physical folder and have the same name.
Are your exported Jpeg files then re-imported into LR in a different folder? That's a problem for what you want to do (and in general I don't recommend reimporting duplicate images).
LR could do a great job of managing your network share using a published folder, if you included the Jpegs from your compact camera on the loca folder along with the raw images. With publish services and a published folder, LR will create (and remove) Jpeg images in a managed location you choose, and you don't need to worry about reimporting duplicates.

  • How to tack and export versions.

As the title says I can't figure out a smooth way to export a serie of versions (to be burned or mailed)that exist besides the masters in a project. When I select all the images and ask for "export versions" it doesn't work like that: the masters are exported too Also, when I try to select manualy with a \ they are tacked with a 5 stars rating. I don't understand that either. Could somebody help me out?

There isn't one built in, but copy the following into Script Editor. In Aperture, open all the Stacks and select the last image. Then run the script.
    tell application "Aperture" to activate
    tell application "System Events"
    if UI elements enabled then
    tell process "Aperture"
    repeat 10 times
    keystroke "\" using command down
    delay 2
    key code 123
    delay 1
    end repeat
    end tell

    tell application "System Preferences"
    activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.universalaccess"

    Hello,
This sounds like a postback issue. Does your application handle postback by putting the report in session?
There is a [sample|http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2SP2/en/en/CrystalReports_dotNET_SDK/crsdk_samples_aspx/data/crsdk_net_tutorials_115_en.zip] to look at on our website. It was created with Crystal Reports XI R2 and Visual Studio .NET but the code will be the same.
    The basic code is:
    Private crReportDocument As ReportDocument
        Private Sub ConfigureCrystalReports()
'Check to see if the report exists
            If (Session("crReportDocument") Is Nothing) Then
                crReportDocument = New ReportDocument()
                crReportDocument.Load("C:\1 - Report\CRParams.rpt")
'Do anything required for the report
                'Logon to the database
                'Pass parameters
                'Assign the report into Session
                Session("crReportDocument") = crReportDocument

  • Question rgd Jeffrey's Export-to-Flickr Lightroom Plugin

    Hi.
I stumbled across this plug-in in Scott Kelby's LR2 book, thought it was a cool feature, and was about to install it when I came across this:
"By authorizing this link, you'll allow Jeffrey's Export-to-Flickr Lightroom Plugin to:
Access your Flickr account (including private content)
Upload, Edit, and Replace photos and videos in your account
Interact with other members' photos and videos (comment, add notes, favorite)
Delete photos and videos from your account"
Is this really so? By adding this plugging I will give this Jeffrey access to delete my Flickr photos?
I'd really like to know before installing this thing.
    Thanks in advance,
    ole k

    I guess I was a bit confused by reading: "By authorizing this link, you'll allow Jeffrey's Export-to-Flickr Lightroom Plugin to: . . . . .
Delete photos and videos from your account", as if the plug-in sort of would have a life on its own and start deleting my files. Which, I see now, was not the case. See also my other two replies to this thread.
As for Flickr to delete (among other things) my files, I'm really not that worried, as I am an amateur with little or nothing to lose. It was the idea of having this 3-part program interfering with my photos which scared me off a bit, along with the fact that I only yesterday encounterd another LR plugin - from Adobes/Scott Kelbys site, which included two trojans. But it all seems sorted out now.
    Thanks,
    ole k

  • Edits don't export to flickr/facebook

To elaborate, I'm on Mac OS Mavericks with PSE-10. I can upload to both flickr and facebook, but it uploads the original (.CR2) file. When exporting to Flickr/Facebook, my photos show up as originals, not the edited version, even though the edited version appears in my PSE-10 organizer window. What am I doing wrong? The edits were simple; photos opened in the "white window" (to adjust color, exposure), then clicked "done" to return to the organizer, where they appear in edited form.  However, when I export from the organizer to flickr or facebook, the unedited version appeared on those sites. This is most noticeable in a night-shot, where I adjusted the color from 5050 to 3200 to cool the picture. Any help/suggestion is appreciated.

I am guessing here but I suspect that option has been removed as Apple have discontimued iWem and dont want to provide an  iWeb function.
Im unable to comment on HTML export as its working for me, but I have not upgraded to the latest version due to the amount of problems it is causing users.

  • Anyone having issues exporting to flickr via LR3.6 on OS Lion?

I saw the update for LR 3.6 came out and did my upgrade yesterday. After I finished working on my files, I attempted to export my photos to my flickr account via the built in export tool for Flickr in Lightroom. However, after about 5 photos in, the process crashes out, burps out a strange looking XML like error message, and returns me to my grid photo screen. After two more attempts to export out my files, I decided to exit out and downgrade to 3.5.  Thankfully on the Mac, I can just load up the 3.5 updater and it overwrite the 3.6 files. After that I downgraded, my flickr exports and other operations went on as I expected.
Has anyone else seen this issue when exporting to flickr or to facebook?

I was able to capture the error message:
    An internal error has occurred: Error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain Code=4 "zero length data" UserInfo=0x117157810 {NSLocalizedDescription=zero length data}
Anyone know why this is happening?
