Stacks/Fan View don't update (Stack as Folder)

Hello.
After updating to 10.5.2 and setting the Stack View to Folder, my Downloads Stack doesn't update when downloading new files.
The new file is not shown but the file on top of the Fan loses their description/name. With every download/new file which should appear but doesn't, one file on top loses the name.

If i use Stack instead of Folder, everything works just fine.
Switching to Stack and back to Folder solves the problem for a short while but when i download more than one file, this problem occours again.
Has anybody a solution for this problem?

P.S. Didn't know that it would go down there, but in my last post I was agreeing with... Well, I can't remember their name and I can't go back to check without leaving this page, but whoever said that they were having the same problem.

Stacks' fan-view not showing filenames?

This has been going on since I first got Leopard:
I have my Downloads-stack/folder set to the fan-view (no particular reason, it jsut looks spiffy), but sooner or later the filenames stop showing up. First it's only some of them, but before long it's all of them.
It's obviously got something to do with the contents of the Downloads folder changing, but I can't really see a pattern.
I've attached a snap of the weirdness in question. I figured it was a common bug, but I haven't been able to find it mentioned anywhere.
Any ideas, besides doing a "sudo killall Dock" or a logout every once in a while?
The system's up to date except for the most recent Sec. Update (the one with the SSH issues), but this has been going on since I got the new Mac Pro with (I believe) 10.5.1 pre-installed.

Not sure you're getting the picture (literally - look at the screenshot again).
This is not about how I label my files/folders or the settings for the stack. This is about a bug causing the filenames to not appear, not be displayed, not be visible next to their respective icons... as the screenshot above shows. It illustrates as directly as possible that all the filenames are missing.
And yes, I can change the stack to display as a grid (as I did for the Documents stack) or as a list, or change its icon to be a stack or whatever. But I like to keep my Downloads stack in the fan view, and when I do that, the filenames are not displayed. I don't know why, but it's fairly irritating.
If anybody's got a workaround, let me know.

Fan view not working in stacks

I don't have the option at all !! Don't see how I can enable that cool looking fan view. I'm running 10.5.1 and my clicking an icon in my stack just shows the grid view with directory listings. The "options" menu (hold down mouse and then click on a stack folder) doesn't have a "view as" option where I can choose either fan or grid. Why is this different?

Where do you have your Dock? The fan is only available if you keep your Dock at the bottom. If it is kept veritcally on either side the option is not available.

The materizlezed view don't update

I create a materialized view like
create materialized view vw_jfp_jpgcb_mislog_1
refresh fast NEXT sysdate + 1/144
on demand
as
SELECT
* from big_table;
It should be update every 10 minutes.
But after I insert 100 thousand records, I find it don't update. What's reason of it ?

Have you traced a session doing the refresh to see
where the time is being taken? I'll wager it's in the
LOB processing, but having actual data to back that
up would be helpful.

change I'm not sure how your answer relates to my question. I was talking about a session trace (run through tkprof) to validate that it's the query, not some function of the materialized view refresh process, that was running slowly, what the query is waiting on, etc.

however many rows are going to be refreshed and get a

query over 100,000 rows, you'd have to tune the

What data type is the XML document stored in? I'm
guessing a BLOB from your syntax since you didn't
include the table definition. Why would you store XML
in a BLOB rather than a CLOB?

Something may have to give here. Storing character data, an XML document, in a BLOB column and then trying to parse the XML document is going to be slow. Given your transaction volume, storing the data in a reasonable data type may be necessary to get the sort of performance you need. At a minimum, doing development against a data model that (presumably) everyone agrees is incorrect is going to introduce unnecessary overheads that are likely to be noticable.
If you're storing 100,000 XML documents, you should probably be using XML DB functionality rather than storing data directly in LOBs but if you're going to store the data in LOBs, at least use the right type.
Have you considered using an XML parser to parse the
XML document rather than trying to use SUBSTR and
INSTR?

of them ? Thanks a lot.You didn't indicate the Oracle version. Assuming you're on 10.2, there are a variety of packages. A quick search on http://tahiti.oracle.com for DBMS_XML turns up a number of packages. DBMS_XMLParser is one option, though it only takes CLOBs, so you'd have to convert everything from a BLOB to a CLOB in real time. DBMS_XMLQuery would be another option (though again you'll be incurring BLOB to CLOB conversion overhead).
That's going to be substantially more efficient.
Have you considered creating an Oracle Text index on
the data?

Reasonable suggestions are likely to begin with getting the data model right. Very little good comes from trying to handle large transaction volumes with incorrect data models.

Stacks - fan view - order of files shown

Any idea what determines the order of files as shown in the stack on the dock. I've tried to change the order of them in the finder window (by name, by date created, size, and so forth) but they seem to stay the same way in the Stack...what criteria is it using to sort them?

Right click on the stack you want to arrange,
from there you will get a contextual menu. Here you can select Name, Date Added, Date Modified, Date Created, or Kind.
When you view the stack again, you'll now find it sorted by your selection.

Fan View in Stack doesn't work

I'm enjoying the new Leopard features. However, suddenly when I put a folder in the dock to use as a "stack" the FAN view doesn't work. I just get a fan of dumb-looking lines. The grid view works. What gives?

Glad to hear that. Sometimes preference files get corrupted, it happens. If you lost application icons from the Dock it's because they probably were 3rd party software, OR, the icons that aren't on the Dock by default in Leopard.

Restoring iPhone app state with a stack of view controllers+scroll view

The state of my native iPhone app usually has a stack of view controllers and a scroll view in the current view controller. When I restore the state of the app (for example, if the user has exited and comes back), I'd like to restore the stack of controllers and scroll to the appropriate page WITHOUT the user seeing all the view controllers getting pushed onto the stack and the scrolling involved to get to the appropriate page. Does anyone have some quick and dirty code that does this?

Looks like the scrolling will be done BEFORE the view appears if you follow the basic (or some variation of) "-(void) restore" paradigm as outlined in DrillDownSave.

Stacked canvas view placed on the content canvas

Hi to all,
i am developed a one form ,i.e placed the stacked canvas view on the content convas.
i create a two data block's with same table.
one data block for content canvas and one for stacked canvas.
in the content canvas i taken two fileds with scroll bar and remaining fields placed on the stacked canvas.
these stacked canvas view put on the content canvas.it dispalying and
executed succesfully.
here i am getting one problem i am displying the 10 records at a time in both canvases.my requirment is placed on the
cursor on the content canvas particular record scroll down then automatically show the same record details in stacked canvas and
content canvas scroll bar is changed automatically stacked canvas scroll bar is changed.

This is not necessary. Just create one data block and then assign the block items to your Content and Stacked canvases. You can display items in a data block on different canvases. By doing this, there is no need to write code to synchronize the records because they are part of the same data block so they will automatically scroll as you navigate through your records.

No vertical scroll bar in dock stack grid view

using osx 10.6.4; in regards to the dock stack grid view -- do i have to enable the scroll bar in the stack grid view because i am not seeing any scroll bar except the "open in finder" arrow ?

Show Custom Icon in a Dock Stack, Grid View?

Hi, I have a folder with lots of pdfs placed in my dock as a stack. Is there any way to tell the Dock to show my custom icons, when present, or the default preview snapshot as it does now?
When I click on my folder in the dock, I have it set to show as a grid. When the contents are shown, the finder generated document preview icons are shown. For some documents, I have created custom icons for quick visual identification. When I view the document in a finder folder window, the custom icon shows, as expected, but not when I view the folder contents in a dock stack.

I have placed a network drive in the dock to act as a stack so that I quick click of that icon will mount the drive, and then the icon acts as a stack. This network drive has a custom icon. When I have the stack set to "display as stack", I get the stack icon in the dock. When I then change to "Display as folder", the custom icon appears in the dock in place of the stack icon UNTIL I click on the icon to display its contents. When I click again, the icon reverts to the generic network drive icon. I'd like the custom icon to remain in the dock. Any thoughts?

Keywording stacks. Request for 'all in stack' selection.

I stacked a folder of 400 images into 12 stacks, keyworded each stack. Came back the next day, typed in a keyword - there is my stack.
But it won't expand. Stack indicator goes from '80' to '1 of 80'. I thought this was a bug .. but after eliminating the keyword, the stack expands and I see the keyword only sticks to the top copy of the stack.
If I keyword a stack, it should go through to every image. There needs to be a 'select all in stack' option. Now I have to open each stack, select photos, keyword, close stack.
A work-around is to keyword before I 'group in stack'. Maybe add a keyword to each stack (stack1, stack2) so I can actually group a stack and keyword later. Not very elegant.

You can select stack, click left side to open stack. Cmd/Ctl click last image in stack to selesct all in stack and then Keyword Stamp (show Keywrod in Toolbar) or use Keywording in Right Panel or D&D keywords.

Split view pausing when updating code

HI, I love split view, can live without it, but in the latest version 5 and up, it seems when i change the code in code view side, the wysiwyg side pauses for a few seconds to update what i've changed, almost flashes asif reloading, maybe it is, but it seemed to do this more seemlessly, I could go back and forth and updates were instant. I am not in live view, that takes even longer when changes to the code view are done.
Just curious is there are ways to speed this up, or anything anyone has run into that causes the split view window to pause when changes are made.
It only happens, in split view, and i update something in code view, even just text <p> and when i click back to the wyysiwyg side, it pauses for a few seconds before reflecting the change.

Yes, same scenario, when I click back to design view, it usually updates quickly, but now it takes 3-5 seconds before it refreshes. It's noticeable, and hard to work with when I am updating alot of content peices,
I've tried other sites thinking maybe it has something to do with related files or something, but same thing, Its noticeable, but I can't seem to figure out when it started or why. Been using split view since it was available, always quite fast... I don;t have any data connections, or testing servers setup that could cause lag. I hope its a simple toggle of something I inadvertently toggled?

Chrome favourites, added to safari, don't update automatically

Recently Safari allowed me to add Chrome favourites to Safari's, however they don't update automatically when I change them in Chrome. How do I fix the problem? Thanks

Your issue peaked my curiosity, so a ran a small experiment with some routers which I had handy ... a 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), a Linksys BEFSR81, and a Netgear WGR614.
I rotated them, in turn, to a Motorola SB5101 cable modem provided by my ISP -- Cox Communications. For each case, I left the default settings on the routers which, in all cases, they were set as DHCP clients. For each case, the DNS IP information, provided by the ISP, was NOT visible on the Basic Settings page for any of these routers. However, they were ALL visible when viewing the equivalent router's status pages. For the AEBSn, that would be the Internet > Internet Connection tab in the AirPort Utility; For the Linksys, that would be the Status > Router tab; For the Netgear, that would be the Maintenance > Router Status.
In addition, I confirmed that each of the routers "passed thru" the ISP DNS server information to their LAN clients (wired or wireless) that were set up as DHCP client (& for WinXP or Vista clients to receive DNS info automatically.) (Note: I used the ipconfig utility for both Windows & OS X clients.)
So, this leads me to believe that what you are seeing is normal behavior of the router. If your ISP changes their DNS server(s), this should also "pass thru" to your LAN clients. If this is not happening then either the router is set for a static DNS IP address or the client is. I'm not sure what else it would be.

I'm presuming this is a pop mail account - please confirm.
First, make sure hidden files and folders are visible:
The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".
* Help > Troubleshooting Information
* click on 'show folder' button
* click on 'Mail' folder.
* Please post image of the contents of the 'Mail' folder.
In thunderbird:
* right click on mail account name and select 'Settings'
* Select 'Server Settings' for the mail account
* Look bottom right for 'Local directory'.
* Put mouse cursor in the text box, then use keyboard arrow keys to navigate to the far right..some of the directory will be hidden as it does not fit it all in, so keep going to the right until you reach the end.
* Then left click, hold down and move mouse to the left to highlight the entire entry.
* Right click on highlighted area and select Copy.
* Paste info into this question in the forum.

Previews in Adobe Bridge in Essentials View do not update after manipulation in Adobe Camera Raw

When I open a RAW file in Bridge and manipulate it in ACR, the preview is not updated in Bridge Essentials View. The only way I can get it to update the preview is to open the file in "Preview" view, then it updates and looks fine in Essentials view.

Is Bridge set up to store the ACR modifications to those XMP files? Only then it can update the preview right after working on it. Else you need to refresh the preview cache.
