Stacks out of dock

Yikes!! I accidentally removed Stacks from my dock...how do I get it back?

To get your Downloads stack back just open up Finder and drag and drop the folder /Users/<your-home-folder>/Downloads to the dock. (As Simon pointed out just about every folder can be a stack.) To set it to the default behavior right-click on it and choose "sort by date added", "show as stack" and "show contents as: automatic".

How Can i Recover Stacks to My Dock , I Put it in The Trash By Accident.

If it's still in the trash you can drag it back out, but if not this tells you how it works http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3739.

  • I've lost my downloads stack from the dock, can I reinstate it?

Not long after buying my lovely new Mac desktop, I somehow managed to remove the downloads stack from the dock and I'd like to reinstate it.  I've also noticed I have lots of things in the dock that I never use (the guitar thing GarageBand for instance!) but am loathe to lift this into the trash in case I lose it forever and, who knows, maybe I might want to play with it sometime? (when I'm more confident!)
I've just stumbled upon this site and it looks brilliant, so any help would be great.  Also, I don't know what OS I've got - how could I discover that (the computer is almost a year old)?  And is there a tutorial on the Finder, which looks like it must be very useful, but I've no idea what for!
Thanks from an Ageing Mac Virgin!

items in the dock are just aliases. removing them from the dock won't delete the actual application. right-click on an item in the dock and choose options > remove from dock or just drag them off.
as for your downloads folder, open a finder window and click on the house icon with your name next to it. find the downloads folder and drag it to the right of the divider line in the dock.
you can find out which OS you're running by clicking on the  icon in the menu bar and selecting about this Mac.
the finder is for the Mac what windows explorer is for that other OS:
    Mac 101: The Finder
Mac OS X v10.6: Mac 101 - Finder and the desktop

  • "Downloads" and "Documents" Stacks in the Dock  10.6 Snow Leopard

Is there a way to get the little blue folder icons that say "Downloads" and "Documents" to appear on the stacks in the dock instead of a thumbnail type icon of the first document or download in the stack? 10.6 Snow Leopard.  The Apple Web page describing "Stacks" as a new part of Snow Leopard shows them.

Yes, right click (control click) on the icon and select Display as Folder.

Can T420 use 3 displays with out a dock.
One on a laptop display, one via VGA port and another one via DISPLAY port.
I use T420  4178-BYT with Intel HD Graphic 3000 (no nvidia).

You have to re-activate it with the original sim card, or one from the same carrier it's locked to (unless it's not locked, then any GSM sim card will do).  The sim card itself doesn't have to be activated, it just has to be the correct one and be inserted.  After that you can use it as an iPod Touch.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406.

  • How to Stop iTune popping out from dock...annoying

I don't want iTune auto lunching or popping out from the dock if the app opened and minimized...annoying. Me never liked iTune.

Well, I figured the only way to resolve my issue was to just closed iTune window while I got the Internet radio playing...it won't pop out of Dock now.

  • If I remove a stack from the dock where do the files go?

I have numerous files and folders in the Documents stack. I really don't need to see most of those files. If I remove the Documents stack form the Dock will I lose the files? Where will they be?
    Thanks

So, I'm new to Macs, but if I understand correctly, I could click on the Macintosh HD icon, then go to Users and then to my folder, once there I can create a new folder and put my commonly updated files in there. Then I could remove the Documents folder from the Dock and I should have what I want: frequently updated files in a stack on the dock and less frequently used files/folders still in my folder (ie the Home folder) which would be accessible through the Finder.
    Right??
    Thanks

  • 2G Touch line out via dock - deliberately disabled?

    So here are the questions:
    - does Apple make a car cable compatible with ALL dock connector iPods (e.g. Touch and Touch 2G) that not only puts sound out via dock but also allows charging from car 12v DC? (I don't think so)
    - why doesn't Apple try to collect its tax directly by making its own "special chip and charge adapter" so we can all buy these adapters, pay the tax, and carry on using our already installed dock cables?
Closest I can find is Sendstation but they do not do a dock to dock straight-through/pass-through unit - only dock to 3.5mm/usb etc.
    Anyone got any ideas?

  • Documents Stack Reappears in Dock after Restart

When I installed Leopard, it created the default dock, containing the basic applications and some stacks. One of those stacks was the Documents Stack, which I did not find useful, so I dragged it out of the dock and poof it was gone. But when I restarted, it was back in my dock.
Now, every time I restart I have to remove it again, but it always "respawns" upon restart again.
How can I permanently destroy that persistent stack?

Does it remember if you add an application or a different folder to the Dock? If not, it sounds like your dock plist is hosed. Launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app and type:
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.db
    killall Dock
When the dock comes back up, it should be back at its default config. Set it up how you want and then restart and see if the problem persists.

  • Why can't we have folders AND stacks in the dock?

If I drag a single item into the dock, I want it to remain a single item.
If I drag multiple items into the dock, I want them to become a stack.
If I drag one folder filled with multiple items, it should only turn into a stack on my say-so, like if I Option-Drag it onto the dock or something. Stacks shouldn't be forced onto the user.
Please make Stacks an ADDED FEATURE and not an ABSOLUTE CHANGE in everyone's daily workflow.

I might actually buy a windows laptop.  So sad.
No need, as long as Apple continues to offer a notebook line-up that includes built-in optical drives, to buy a Windows machine... yet.
As I said, the only thing that I use my SuperDrive for now is backups of all those digital software deliveries, documents, etc. If I finally break down and buy an external Blu-ray drive, I won't use the SuperDrive at all. But right now I have almost 12 years of back-ups on DVD, both single and dual layer - so, for now, I need my optical drive.
I'm hoping that - one day - Apple will sell MacBook Pros with Blu-ray drives. Hey, I can wish, right?

  • How do I create a stack in my dock. I want to stack all of my Microsoft Office Applications.

I want to stack all of my Microsoft Office Applications.

    Kappy-
I never though of doing that. I just moved my "iWork" folder into the end of the Dock, since it is already in a Folder and I seldom use Numbers or Keynote. Two fewer Icons in the Dock but still easy access.
    What a good idea!

  • Tecra 8000 TV out when docked

The docking station for the Tecra8000 doen't replicate the TVout connector, but I have a right-angled cable that fits the normal TV out port when docked and allows the cable to clear the docking unit. Is the TV Out connector normally disabled when docked, and is there a registry setting or something in 98SE to re-enable it?
I connect my Tecra to a TV set to watch DivX movies on the large screen, with the audio out going to my stereo, but I need to use the unit with the replicator because the server containing my video files is on a network, so I need the network capability. I COULD use a PCMCIA network adapter, but then that defeats the object of a docking station with the LAN!!

    Hi Retro
I am a little bit confused. As far as I know some Tecra 8000 have no LAN card. If your unit has LAN card and LAN port why you dont connect the unit directly on TV and LAN without Port Replicator?
I am not 100% sure if the port is disabled but you can test it if you can. If there is no success you must use PCMCIA network adapter.

  • How i can i prevent Apps from being dragged out from dock?

Before Mavericks i once applied some switch via command line that prevented removing Applications via dragging out.
But this way it still allowed changing the order or still allowed remvoing via right-click menu.
Sadly i cannot find the command anymore and all solutions i found after googling use the immutable boolean which results in a completely statically locked Dock. But this is not what i'm looking for.
How can i specifically disable the drag-out removal of Apps from the Dock?
    Thanks!

You can't. You can only "hide" them.
