  • Ask the Expert: Integrating Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) 1.2 for BYOD

With Eric Yu and Todd Pula
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions  about integrating Cisco ISE 1.2 for BYOD with experts Eric Yu and Todd Pula.
Cisco Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is an end-to-end architecture that orchestrates the integration of Cisco's mobile and security architectures to various third-party components. The session takes a deep dive into the available tools and methodologies for troubleshooting the Cisco BYOD solution to identify root causes for problems that stem from mobile device manager integration, Microsoft Active Directory and certificate authority services, and Cisco Enterprise Mobility integration to the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
Todd and Eric recently delivered a technical workshop that helps network designers and network engineers understand integration of the various Cisco BYOD components by taking a deep dive to analyze best practice configurations and time-saving troubleshooting methodologies. The content consisted of common troubleshooting scenarios in which TAC engineers help customers address operational challenges as seen in real Cisco BYOD deployments.
Eric Yu is a technical leader at Cisco responsible for supporting our leading-edge borderless network solutions. He has 10 years of experience in the telecommunications industry designing data and voice networks. Previous to his current role, he worked as a network consulting engineer for Cisco Advance Services, responsible for designing and implementing Cisco Unified Communications for Fortune 500 enterprises. Before joining Cisco, he worked at Verizon Business as an integration engineer responsible for developing a managed services solution for Cisco Unified Communications. Eric holds CCIE certification in routing and switching no. 14590 and has two patents pending related to Cisco's medianet.
Todd Pula is a member of the TAC Security and NMS Technical Leadership team supporting the ISE and intrusion prevention system (IPS) product lines. Todd has 15 years of experience in the networking and information security industries, with 6 years of experience working in Cisco's TAC organization. Previous to his current role, Todd was a TAC team lead providing focused technical support on Cisco's wide array of VPN products. Before joining Cisco, he worked at Stanley Black & Decker as a network engineer responsible for the design, configuration, and support of an expansive global network infrastructure. Todd holds his CCIE in routing and switching no. 19383 and an MS degree in IT from Capella University.

    Hi Antonio,
Many great questions to start this series.  For the situation that you are observing with your FlexConnect configuration, is the problem 100% reproducible or is it intermittent?  Does the problem happen for one WLAN but not another?  As it stands today, the CoA-Ack needs to be initiated by the management interface.  This limitation is documented in bug CSCuj42870.  I have provided a link for your reference below.  If the problem happens 100% of the time, the two configuration areas that I would check first include:
On the WLC, navigate to Security > RADIUS > Authentication.  Click on the server index number for the associated ISE node.  On the edit screen, verify that the Support for RFC 3576 option is enabled.
On the WLC, navigate to the WLANs tab and click on the WLAN ID for the WLAN in question.  On the edit screen, navigate to Security > AAA and make sure the Radius Server Overwrite interface is unchecked.  When this option is checked, the WLC will attemp to send client authentication requests and the CoA-Ack/Nak via the dynamic interface assigned to the WLAN vs. the management interface.  Because of the below referenced bug, all RADIUS packets except the CoA-Ack/Nak will actually be transmitted via the dynamic interface.  As a general rule of thumb, if using the Radius NAC option on a WLAN, you should not configure the Radius Server Overwrite interface feature.
    Bug Info:  https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCuj42870
For your second question, you raise a very valid point which I am going to turn into a documentation enhancement request.  We don't currently have a document that lists the possible supplicant provisioning wizard errors that may be encountered.  Please feel free to post specific errors that you have questions about in this chat and we will try to get you answers.  For most Android devices, the wizard log file can be found at /sdcards/downloads/spw.log.
As for product roadmap questions, we won't be able to discuss this here due to NDA.  Both are popular asks from the field so it will be interesting to see what the product marketing team comes up with for the next iterration of ISE.

Phoned sky got hung up on, phoned again waited ages add per usual, they phoned engineer promised he would be out as appointment today, didn't turn up, tried contacting sky through online services, got cut off from them half way through my conversation, phoned sky again, promised me the engineer would phone me, didn't get any call. Phoned back again for sky to tell me that I had no appointment today, which was really frustrating as clearly did! Phoned engineer myself, they said that nobody was speaking to them at all, they hadn't my name on the list but he told me he was "on holidays from today for two weeks and he's going home now!!" Phoned sky again to speak with management, they said they would phone back, guess what, yes there is a trend here, they didn't phone back. I just feel that sky is a really bad unreliable service. I will be leaving sky very soon. Service and that of its staff is appalling from phone staff to engineer's who work for them!! Disgraceful!

  • Edge detection on a moving object

    Hi
I have a problem on edge detection. I have a pulley of different types.
Pulleys where Dia is same, but height differs. Pulleys of different dia but the number of teeth (ridges) vary.
I need to identify one type of pulley from the other. I am trying to use the following logic:
    1. Locate the base of the pulley (which is distinct) using pattern match
    2. Define a co ordinate based on this pattern match.
    3. Define edge detection tool using the co ordinate (this is where I am running into a wall)
I have used extracts of examples : battery inspection, gage and fuse inspection
I am not able to define the edge tool (Edge detector under vision assistant 7.1)
I am trying to use the co ordinates, since if the pulley moves a bit, then the edge detector appears away (in Vision assistant)
    THE CATCH IS:
I have to do this in VB since Machine vision has to be integrated into existing vb application.
    NOTE: attached image of pulley
Now can some one help me PLS
    Thanks in advance

    pulley.png ‏13 KB

    Hi Suresh -
I took your image and expanded the background region to make three versions with the pulley in different positions.  Then I loaded the three images into Vision Assistant and built a script that finds the teeth of the pulley.  Although Vision Assistant can't generate coordinate systems, I used edge detection algorithms to define a placeholder where the coordinate system code should be added.
I chose to use a clamp and midpoint instead of the Pattern Matching tool because of the nature of the image.  Silhouetted images are difficult to pattern match, and the vertical line symmetry of the pulley makes it even more difficult to find a unique area of the object that can be recognized repeatedly.  Instead, I generally find more success using algorithms that are designed around edge detection.  I assumed that the "notch" at the bottom of the pulley will always be present in your images, so I performed a Clamp in the Horizontal Min Caliper to find this notch.  The midpoint of this clamp section can be used as the origin of a coordinate system around which the following Edge Detection steps are performed.  This allows you to find the teeth of the pulley no matter where it is in the image.  (Note that the VA script was built using pulley with BG 3.png.)
The Builder File that was generated from the script gives you all the code you need except for the Caliper function and the Coordinate System functions.  I added comments to these sections to show what type of code you will have to add there.
It may not be exactly the application you need to perform, but it should give you a solid starting point.  I hope it helps.

    Hi ,
Unfortunately this is an issue in the underlying driver for the USB device. It should be fixed in the next DAQ release.
One way you could work around this problem is by having a delay after the read and the next line of code.
    i.e
Private Declare Sub Sleep Lib "kernel32" (ByVal dwMilliseconds As Long)
    DAQmxErrChk DAQmxReadAnalogScalarF64(taskHandle, 10#, data, ByVal 0&
    Sleep(250)

Press IGNORE to Ignore this Error and continue testing.
Can anybody help me with this?
    Thanks,

    Hi Dusty,
If you right-click on the step that is calling this VI and
select “Specify Module”, this will pop-up another window that allows you to
configure the VI that you are calling.  In
the connector pane window, make sure that it shows the correct inputs and
outputs.  If not, click the “Reload
Prototype” button at the bottom right.
If these are correct, then double check to verify that the
bottom pane also lists the correct inputs and outputs, and that you are specifying
the correct TestStand variables for these.
Attached is a screenshot of this configuration window.

  • Store object reference in variable resolved by other variable

    Hi everyone,
In my test setup I use a Thread and I want to store an object ref to that Thread in a variable (type: object reference).
In the sequence call settings I can provide a variable where I want to store this.
I've done this before and it all worked fine. When I stop the thread I'm able to use a wait step that waits for the thead to stop by providing the reference I stored when the thread was started.
Now I want to store the reference in a variable that is based on another variable. In my situation the following construction works. This is way I've entered in the Sequence call settings:
    #NoValidation = True, Evaluate("FileGlobals.ModuleConfig." + Parameters.ModuleInstance + ".ThreadRef")
As you can see Parameters.ModuleInstance determines in which container the thread ref should be stored. But since this parameter is empty by default the evaluation fails so I have to use #NoValidation.
This seems a bit ugly to me so I also tried:
    FileGlobals.ModuleConfig.GetPropertyObject(Parameters.ModuleInstance + ".ThreadRef")
According to teststand this construction is OK, however my thread ref is not stored in this case...
Is the first option I mentioned the only possible way for my problem? Or are there other, more elegant ways?

    Hi Kayr,
I agree that the second approach you mention is the more elegant way to accomplish this.  I was able to successfully use this method on my end to access a propertyObject.  Can you send a sample sequence file so I can take a look?

I set up the file as index.html. When I try to view it on Firefox it won't open the file.

    Hi Kirk -
I believe the method discussed in this post is the most reasonable: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=200&message.id=10160#M10160
I don't know of any 3rd-party tools for creating movie files in LVRT.  The AVI functions can't be supported in LVRT because they're based on DirectShow functionalities, which are only available in Windows environments.

  • How do I add a section in the latest pages with out it appending to the end of the document

Hello to   all. I'm trying  to figure out how to add a section between pages 14 and 15 in my document, but when I do this it adds a section brake between the last page of said document which is around page 31 or so. I want to remove a whole section and this seems to be the only way to do this.
I'm running osx10 Yosemite with pages 5.9. Any help here?
    Take care.

In TestStand 2012, the ReportHeader string no longer contains a <body> tag, so you can directly append the extra HTML to the parameter without needing to do a search and replace.  The following expression worked in my case:
    Parameters.ReportHeader = "\R\N<IMG src=\"C:\\NI.JPG\" ALT=\"NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS\">" + Parameters.ReportHeader

  • How do I create a digital signature on a TCP or a UDP flow?

I am trying to convert samples of a voice signal, which is intercepted from the microphone, into fixed length digital signature bytes (using Hash, or) and attach these fixed length bytes to a communication session between two terminals (UDP or TCP "HTTP"). The other receving end should be able to identify the person at the sending side.
Any thoughts how I could do this?
    Any help is most appreciated.
    Sam

    Sam,
If you have the Sound and Vibration toolkit it may make some things easier for you regarding the voice-recording aspect, but if you aren't recording and playing back the actual sounds, just using this for detection and digital signatures, you shouldn't need to worry about this.
    1. For this you are going to be doing some form of Analog Input.  Then you will be storing this data to a file.  There are examples for both of these aspects in the NI Example Finder from within LabVIEW.
    2. If you are going to be doing the FFT, there is a VI under the Mathematics Palette that performs this operation.  Again you can use the same example for saving data to the file.
    3. You would need to figure out what needs to be done to create a digital signature for this.  There may be something in the Sound and Vibration toolkit for this, but I do not know.
    4. For the UDP or TCP transfers, there are several examples for doing this and they cover how to create the connection and transfer / receive data.  These too are in the NI Example Finder
    5. This goes back to number 4, this would indeed be a separate program, but everything else would just be one project and one program.
    6. This would depend on how the ID was created in step 3, again whether you do the algorithm on yourself or not.  For comparing to the table, you would use a Search Array and some comparison functions, all depending on how you stored the data initially.
    7. Graphs are all available on your Front Panel of your VIs and you would just wire up the data that you'd like and have it displayed on the graph.
There will not be an example for everything that you are wanting to do.  The examples are meant to help you get started.  Have you used LabVIEW before?  I would recommend doing the 3 Hour LabVIEW Introduction Course to help you get started.  This will cover some of the basic concepts that you will need to know in order to create your application.
Unfortunately I cannot write the code for you, only guide and direct you.  LabVIEW is a programming language and does require the user to lay out and create their own program.  You will not be able to just find three or four pre-built code-snippets and connect them together to get your appliction working the way you want it.  You will need to develop the applications yourself.

  • How can I reach a person with Verizon Wireless

Due to Hurricane Sandy I have a bill payment problem.  I called my bank this morning to see if they were open.  They were.  I drove to the bank to make a deposit and they had already closed so I could not make the deposit.  Tomorrow is a wait and see.  I may not have power.  That wouldn't prevent me from making a deposit.  If my bank is closed due to no power and I can not make a deposit what will happen with a payment I made via phone using my checking account information already saved in the billing part of Verizon Wireless.  I always make my payment either via computer on-line or by phone.  Always using my same checking account.  I knew I could get to the bank the next morning (today, Monday, November 29th) and there would not be a problem.  I even went to my checking account and checked on line.  The Verizon payment which would show up as an ACH (I think I got that right, I don't have my checking account open and in front of me right now) payment and indicate it was to Verizon Wireless was not on my account yet.  My concern began to grown as the storm is causing so many closures.  Tomorrow the bank may be open, I make my deposit, and no problem.  I wish I had the security of speaking with someone from Verizon Wireless since this is something I've never encountered and hopefully never do again.  I am a worrier.  I try not to worry about things I can not do anything about. Considering that my cell phone was my only contact once power goes I wanted that security or I would have waited and done things in the opposite and normal order.  I do not know how and have not been able to reach an actual person with Verizon Wireless.  I am hoping someone else will have the answer to my question and know how to reach a person.  I would then stop worrying.  I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for about ten years and I have four cell phones on my plan including my father who lives alone in Groveland, FL and was nearly killed in a tractor accident a few years ago.  He did not have a phone.  I have gladly provided him with one and I don't want to jeopardize my wireless account.  That is why I am so worried about this.  He is worried about me up here in this storm and I am always glad to know I can reach him to check on him since he lives alone.  Verizon Wireless provided the security I needed for myself, my father, and my son.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
Must have cell phone family - Janice

    Hi Ebru,
Subsequence results are actually stored in their own resultlist container within TS.Sequencecall, which is accessible through the following statement:
    Locals.ResultList[step].TS.SequenceCall.ResultList
where step is the index of the sequence call step. This resultlist is structured in the same way as the main resultList array. You can also access your subsequence directly from the sequence file container if it is in the same sequence file as the main sequence.  Navigate to this reference using the following:
    RunState.SequenceFile.Data.Seq[sequenceName]
Using this reference, you can access the containers for each step's result container.
    Hope this helps!

  • Visual fortran calling a c function in visual studio

    Hi,
I am running Windows 8.1 with Visual Studio Prof. 2012. I have installed Visual Fortran also. Now I wanted to make a solution with two projects one for Visual Fortran and one for C, and be able to call a C function from within the Fortran.
Can someone, please, show how to do this step by step? Guide with pictures would be awesome.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Engineer101,
One way to integrate your code into TestStand would be to save it as a .dll file.  Cick this link for information on how to do this in visual c++ 2008. Once you have the dll, you can call it in teststand using a c/c++ dll action step.  I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any further questions!

Unfortunately, the default TestStand login code uses a TestStand engine method (DisplayLoginDialog) to handle this dialog box.  The method returns a user object based on the user's selections, and cannot be modified.  However, a clone of theTestStand login code developed in LabVIEW can be downloaded from the developer zone.  This set of VIs does not use this method, and will allow you to configure what data is returned by the dialog. The files can be downloaded here:
LabVIEW based Login Reference Example for Teststand
Let me know if you need any help configuring this code, and I'll be happy to help!
