Staging photos for processing

I'm trying to create a staging area for newly imported photos that I haven't processed yet. I've been using the projects within folders method for organization. After I process my images, I tried dragging the project to the appropriate folder and all my images disappear. When I look at the image details, I notice the path info changes within Aperture when you move photos around.
Is this a bug in Aperture 3 or is there a better way to stage photos and move them to the final project / folder later?
Thx

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I'm still experiencing this on an intermittent basis. I've been doing some reading and it looks like I need to reorganize my library anyway. I currently have a single project with all my photos (~12K) in it and a folder for each year, albums by month and event. In hindsight I'm looking to create a folder for each year, a project for each month and use albums to break out the events. I tried to drag photos from one project to the next with no joy. I think its time to bite the bullet and start over and re-import.

  • Material staging for process order

    Dear All,
Can we use material staging for process orders.
If possible pls brief the procedure.
    Subbu.

    Using warehouse management /WM) :
    - Create a control cycle for the component, using LPK1. Here you define if the supply will be specific for the order (when weighing takes place in the warehouse) or for released orders (normallu full packages of components and weighing is done at plant level). Reference to a supply area.
    - The resource used in the operation has a reference to the supply area.
    - Components have material master views in WM for the selected storage type
Then, when releasing the orders run LP10 - LP12 to generate the Transfer requirements for the raw materials. These TR will be converted to Transfer Orders and Confirmed, so the stock will be moved to your supply area.
Using Inventory Management, none of the above is required. You can use MF60 to move materials from General Storage Location to Shop Floor SLoc.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • What is the ideal size and resolution of a photo for display on the iPad?

I'm finding no info on the size of a photo for the best possible display on the iPad.  The screen is obviously much larger than iPod Touch or iPhone; photos sized for them are fuzzy on the iPad.  Ideally, a photo should be sized for the exact number of pixels on the iPad screen.  Can anyone help me here?  Thanks!

This is done automatically via the iTunes sync/transfer process - photos are optimized for viewing on the iPad, and there is not an option to change the default optimization settings.

  • Photos for Mac stuck importing photos from iPhone

I recently upgraded to Photos for Mac from Aperture. Upgrading the library went fairly smoothly. On my first attempt to import photos from my iPhone 6, Photos is now stuck in the import process.
The import tab (device selected) shows the following:
    Already imported (2,509 items)
    New items (442 items)
No thumbnail images are visible (just the default grey squares indicating items)
At the top of this screen is an import progress bar that has not shown any progress. This progress indicator says "Importing 442 items" but the bar itself remains grey; I'm assuming there would be either a black or colored indicator showing some progress when the import process is working correctly.
After about an hour with no indication of progress, I selected the "Stop Import" option, with no noticeable results. I tried clicking the Stop Import button several more times, still with no results. Let things be for about five minutes, with no change in status. The import still seems stuck; clicking the stop button does nothing.
Next, I quit the Photos application. An error sheet appears: "Do you want to continue importing? Photos is currently importing files. If you quit the import task will be canceled." I select "Quit".
Now Photos gets stuck closing the library. All app windows close except for a tiny square that says: "Closing the library..." The library does not close and I run out of patience waiting for it to do so and force quit the application.
    I am using a 27-inch late-2009 iMac
    8GB memory
    2.66 GHz Intel Core i5
    177GB storage space available
    Photos 1.0
    Photo library is approx. 107GB

Update: Force Quitting and restarting the app apparently solved whatever was preventing importation of photos from the iPhone.

  • Preference for Processing RAW in LR or PS Camera Raw

I'm not finding this setting anywhere, and it seems to arbitrarily go back and forth, after updating software or installing software. Hoping someone can help.
When using an external editor (PS CS5) to edit photos from Lightroom 3, there is an inital preference to select whether to use ACR in PS to process the raw file, or to use LR.  I always want to do this in PS.  There's often times where I'm compositing multiple photos.  I only need to open up that raw file to quickly grab a section of it to move into another file.  I don't want to save the raw file as a psd, tif or whatever, just select, copy and move that section of the file and then close it.
The problem is that preference setting is only when you first set up the Lightroom, I'm not seeing it anywhere on any of the preference menus.  And for some reason, it has switched to processing the raw in Lightroom.  So now i'm ending up with useless psd files.  That takes up space on my hard drive, takes longer to archive on to external hard drives, and is slower to open the files into PS.  It may seem like a small inconvenience, but when shooting 1000s, or 10000s of images a week it adds up quickly.  And to get rid of them, i have to reveal in finder, then delete, then remove from catalog in LR - which just wastes time.
Am i missing something? If anyone knows how to set this or a workaround i'd love to hear it.
    Sys specs, if it matters
Mac Pro, dual quad-core, 16gb ram, GeFOrce 8800 GT 512mb graphics card
    OS X Snow Leopard
    LR 3.6
    5d Mk II CR2 files
PS CS5 (12.0.4) and also the newest prerelease (can't disclose much on this)
LR and PS are both great in their own right, and do things better than the other in some situations, I wish Adobe would make them play nicer together.

Re: Preference for Processing RAW in LR or PS Camera Raw
In any event even if you choose to edit the original in PS, as I believe you should be able to do you will still end up with a Tiff, PSD or jpeg file when you have finished your work in PS. Then why are you using Lightroom? This will have a bearing on the advice you will get.
Like I said above, LR and PS both serve specific functions, and yes they do overlap in some areas, and I yes do use both in my workflow.  PS isn't a cataloging program.  LR doens't have layers and sucks at complex editing tasks.  There's 2 reasons i use both, amoung many many others.
The point of my question is that i don't want LR creating and saving PSD files on my hard drive when i don't need a PSD of that specific photo.  You use to be able to make LR open a raw file in PS and use ACR to processs it.  That meant you could close the raw file in Photoshop, and nowhere along the way was a PSD file, or any other file saved.

  • Solutions for processing images in LR, then printing as cards through ID?

    Hello,
Might anyone have experience with processing photographs in LR CC, then printing from ID CC through an inkjet printer? I thought it wouldn't be such a big deal, but am finding my colors are not holding true. What I see in Lightroom is nice on screen and if I print a single card through LR it looks nice. Export the same image as a tif or jpg and print it on the same paper stock through InDesign and the image is not correct. I am selecting the same color profile for the paper stock in each program. Somewhere I am overlooking a detail or two that really matters. Might anyone have a short list of items I must coordinate or synchronize between the two applications?

  • "Optimising Photos for iPod" Does this affect photos in iPhoto Library?

    Hi,
I have a question regarding syncing pictures which are stored in my iPhoto library with my iPod touch.
I notice when I sync photos I get a message that iTunes is "optimising photos for iPod"
    1) Does this mean that 'quality' of the photos is reduced/compressed?
If so, does this mean that any picture downloaded onto my iPod, it's quality is reduced within iPhoto app.
    or
    2) The original quality of the photo is unchanged within iPhoto and it's only the synced photo which is 'optimised' for the sync process?
    I hope this makes sense!
    Thanks...........

    Hi Dave,
Don't worry, iTunes only mangles, er I mean "optimises" the photos on your Touch.
The originals will stay intact on your computer, if you look in the photo file you sync with there should be another file called "iPod Photo Cache" where the marmalised ones are stored.
    Dud.
ps. any photo, regardless of size gets butchered to a max of 640x480 and file size approx 650kb.

  • Selecting photos for a Book

I cannot figure out how to get photos from iPhoto "albums" into a book I want to produce.
There's a selection of recently downloaded photos at the top of the window, and I can move these into the book, but do not see how to move those I put into and "album" for this purpose.

To start a book make an album and put the photos for the book in it, select all and create the book - to add photos to a book taht is in process simply drag photos to the book in the source pane on the left

  • Accessing folders/events that were in iPhoto After Upgrade to Photos for Mac

I had 82 events/albums in iPhoto. What is the best process to access these folders on all my OS devices in Photos for Mac?

Events and Albums are not the same thing in iPhoto. Iphoto Events are converted to Albums when you migrate to the new app. Using iCloud library is probably the best way to access these on your iOS devices.

You will likely get better program help in a program forum
The Cloud forum is not about using individual programs
The Cloud forum is about the Cloud as a delivery & install process
If you will start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use

  • Photos Gone after Upgrade to Photos for Mac

I recently upgraded to Photos for Mac. I just opened it for the first time. Out of the hundreds of photos I used to be able to view, only four appear. What happened? What do I do to see all the photos Icould see previously?

Did you complete the migration process from iPhoto Library to the new Photos Library? Did you migrate your main iPhoto Library?
Where exactly are you looking that makes you think not all photos migrated? You might be looking at Albums, not individual images (they kind of look similar).
Double-click to open the Photos or All Photos albums to check the total number of photos you have. It's displayed either on the very bottom of the screen or in the tool bar. Compare that total to what iPhoto has in its library (iPphoto is still located in your Applications folder and remains fully functional).

  • Resize photo for facebook cover page

Hi - I've followed step-by-step instructions in Lightroom to resize a photo for a facebook cover page. It's not working.  In simple terms, I want to shrink the photo so that it fits the facebook cover page size.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

Select your image thumbnail in the library and from the top menu choose:
    Photo >> Create Virtual Copy
With the virtual copy selected (highlighted) click Develop
Click on the crop overlay or press R on the keyboard
Click on the dropdown menu to the left of the padlock and choose Enter Custom
In the dialog box enter 8.51 x 3.15 for the aspect ratio and click OK
Drag with the hand tool in the center of your image and move it into the best position for your Facbook Cover; then click Done
Go back to the Library and click the export button, bottom left.
Click the choose button to select a folder on your hard drive where you want the jpeg saved
Scroll down to File settings and choose:
    JPEG
    sRGB
Quality Slider 49 (this will keep compression  low for fast loading on your facebook page)
Scroll down to  Image Sizing and check Resize to Fit
Choose: Width & Height and enter
W 851 H 315 and choose pixels from the dropdown menu
Enter 72 for resolution and choose pixels per inch from the dropdown
Scroll down to Output Sharpening and check the box Sharpen For
Chose Screen from the dropdown and Standard
Scroll down to Post Processing and choose Do nothing – next to After Export
    Click the Export Button
When the export has finished (see progress bar top left) go to your folder to find your cover pic.
