Stand alone isight still available?

Hello - I recently purchased a mac pro and was considering picking up a stand alone isight camera. Unfortunately I can't seem to find it listed on the online store - did apple stop making the stand alone model?

never mind I found a post indicating it's disappeared.

  • Is ichat software required for stand alone isight camera to work?

Trying to use an isight  stand alone camera with a new mac mini. It will sometimes take a random picture in Phto Booth but I really can't get it to do anything in Photo Booth , Face time, or imovie. In support it says that you have to have iChat on your computer to allow the camera to work in other applications. I don't have iChat and I can't find it as a download.
I would appreciate any information on this.

Good work on the troubleshooting.  You have now ruled out possible connection problems except for possible problems with your new mini's FW800 port.  If you have or can borrow another FW device, you can try connecting it to your mini with the same cables and adapter to verify that mini's port is working.

If you still believe this, use your Mac's  > Software Update... menu command and apply any needed updates.
I suggest you restart Mac and use Disk Utility to repair permissions before downloading and installing the (3 October) OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo) update.  Repair permissions AGAIN immediately following the restart that completes the Combo Update.
If your problem continues, use OS X Recovery to reinstall Mac OS X Mountain Lion.  Then use  > Software Update… to verify that all your software is up to date.  Install any needed updates and repair permissions one more time regardless of whether additional updates are required after reinstalling OS X.

No, not "just like" iChat.  However, Messages is the replacement for iChat.
For summary info about Messages, see this linked page.  For details, you can read all about Messages and compare it to your iChat experience using your mini's Messages > Help > Messages Help  menu command.

If nothing else works, your service options for external iSight are shown

  • UCCX stand alone to high availability

I have a production UCCX signle server deployment on 7.0(1). I am going to upgrade this to high availability and just needed to check out the procedure to upgrade the existing production server to the first node in HA. My 2nd server is already built, with UCCX and SQL 2000 so it is ready to go. Upon reading the upgrade guide it seems like all I need to do is upgrade SQL and then apply the HA license (it is sort of vague I feel for something this crucial). So you do not need to re-run the install to define first node?
Any opinion (or link to a more detailed document) will be appreciated.

I know this is an old post but for the sake of the community the answer is yes. if it was set up as a
stand alone node to begin with it can be changed to first node using the cet.bat tool to change the startup behavior of the appadmin page as described here.

  • Stand alone Isight mic isnt picking up sound.

I recently was given an isight cam to use with my mini and I get video transmission but i dont get sound. I put my system sound setting preference to use the isight mic for sound input and also did the same with the ichat preferences and it doesnt seem to be working. Any thoughts on what it can be?

I had the microphone option checked in ichat and in system preferences i did raise the volume of the input. It is still unresponsive. I found an old webcam i had laying around it doesnt transmit video since i believe i need a driver for it but it does work as a mic. So I have to use 2 webcams at the moment, my isight to send video and an old usb webcam to send sound. I also grabbed an old desktop microphone and plugged it into the back of the mini thinking I could use that instead of the webcam and it doesnt seem to pick up sound either. I tested the mic on a pc and it worked and yes I did make sure to change the input source to line in on both ichat preferences and system preferences. Any suggestions?

  • Stand Alone iSight and Dust Specs

I now have 2 dust specs that are showing u as wee green dots in the mid of my screen. The dust is not on the outside of the lens...but on the inside. Is there any way to successfully clean this issue up?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,Brazenkaine
The fact that your dots are "wee green" makes me thing that your trouble is more likely pixel hardware faults with your camera's image rather than dust, but you will likely need professional help in either case.
There are NO user-serviceable parts in iSight. If your problem is inside your iSight, see your Apple Service Provider (AASP) for professional help getting the problem resolved.
If you have not already tried this test, drag the window for the app you are using with your iSight around the screen. If the green dots stay in the same relative location inside the iSight preview window when you change the window's position on your display, you know that the problem is with iSight.
However, if the dots stay still in the same place on your display when you move the application's iSight preview window, the problem is in your monitor or video card.
If your test shows that the problem is iSight, you can try Apple's suggestions from How to Troubleshoot iSight. I doubt that they will help, but it costs nothing to try them before you contact your AASP for professional help if you want to try to have the fault repaired.
If you have no local access to an AASP, see Apple's iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions for service alternatives.

  • Is Premier Pro available as a 'stand alone' without CC?

Is Premier Pro available as a stand alone product that can be used without going to the cloud?

I believe one can still purchase the CS6 version and license ... which is the last pre-CC version.
Note, there is some confusion about Adobe's "Cloud" concept. The software is all fully downloaded & installed on your machine, it just checks in every so often to make sure the license is "current" ... and is paid by monthly or yearly subscription-type payments. Non of your files are actually uploaded unless you choose to take advantage of say, uploading your workspace settings to your account "on the cloud" so you can sit down at another CC computer, and immediately have your workspace available on it.

  • 2008 stand-alone server acs software available?

I am using acs 4.2 on a windows 2003 server sp2 in my current network. The network is being replaced and I am being given a windows 2008 software/server and to build the app. I am  a little confused as too the available software. The only 5.4 acs software I see is for the appliance and vmware. What software is there available for standalone servers that in not end-of-life ?  Or do I use acs 4.2 on the standalone server and upgrade it all the way to 5.4. I would think they would have a base package at one of the 5.x levels..Any information would be appreciated

    Hi ,
I would like to inform you about the following things:
    1. ACS 5.x cannot be installed on the widnows server as ACS 4.x
    2. ACS 5.x can only be installed on the vmware (Linux based) or comes as an applaince.
    3. ACS 4.x is a windows based box and ACS 5.x is a linux based appliance/VMware
    4. You can configure vmware or an appliance as a stand alone ACS5.x box.
5.ACS 4.2.1.15 is available till now and is not end of life yet.
    6. You can upgrade the ACS 4.2.0.124 to 4.2.1.15, However its not compatible with windows 2008 r2 box.
7.You cannot upgrade the ACS 4.2 to ACS 5.4, You will have to purchase a seprate license for ACS 5.4 and then you can migrate the database from 4.2 to 5.4

  • Stand-Alone Client to Access JMS Resource without ACC

I'am having trouble to run the JMS SimpleProducer example from the JMS tutorial as a Stand-Alone application.
Although its works as suggested when run inside an ACC. (The tutorial I refer to: http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/JMS5.html#wp79822 )
The JMS provider I use is Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2 (build b06-fcs).
Its documentation states that one could run a client outside the ACC and still access JMS:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0217-10/dgacc.html#wp1022252
Following those instructions throws an exeption when invoking
    Context jndiContext = new InitialContext();
jndiContext.lookup("jms/ConnectionFactory");Of course I did add the three required libraries (appserv-rt.jar, j2ee.jar, imqjmsra.jar) and added the VM arguments to point the client's orb to the JSAS. Also, the JMS administed object exist, admin console shows them and example in ACC worked fine.
The last step of the tutorial says: " As long as the client environment is set appropriately and the JVM is compatible, you merely need to run the main class." Is there anything I miss? Btw. I run the example on Mac OS X 10.4.6 and Java 1.5.0_06.

  • What happened to the stand alone A.pack

what happened to the stand alone A.pack for creating AC3 files, it seems to have gone when I upgraded to FInal Cut Studio yesterday???

As far as I know it isn't available anywhere else... you'll need to re-install v3 to get at it from the install discs. I've not tried using pacifist with the v3 installer to extract the A.Pack installer, but it might be worth a try.
The other thing to do is to solve that error message! Earlier in the year a user posted a solution for that, which meant a bit of typing into the terminal. I believe there are a fair number of posts on the Compressor forum detailing what to type... and probably an equal number saying it didn't work for them! D'oh! Still... got to be worth a go, mind you.

  • Muse as a stand alone program

Hey Adobe, where I teach the university pays for CS 6 Master Suite for all the instructors. I used Muse when it was beta and looked forward to buying it when it came out because my university doesn't plan on using the program for instruction. But YOU will only let people use it if we pay for Cloud access for ALL your programs.
Using Muse only through Cloud, instead of also selling it as a stand alone program is just plan stupid. Makes no sense to me. Rediculous to have to pay for all the services of Cloud when I only want Muse. Get it. I have the Master Suites. I don't need Cloud. I just want Muse.
Please release Muse as a stand alone produce just like your other programs. I'd be happy to pay for it. I loved the beta version.
    Frustrated.

    Walter Calahan wrote:
I'd still like the option of buying the program as a stand alone.
    That definitely won't happen.
Muse was aways going to be subscription only and I suspect Adobe's entire software delivery will go that way sooner rather than later once they've established a viable, sustainable business model.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/muse/faq.html
Why is Adobe Muse sold only by subscription?
Adobe Muse is sold only by subscription because it will allow the Adobe Muse team to improve the product more quickly and be more responsive to your needs. New features will be made available when they're ready, likely to be released on a quarterly basis. This will allow us to stay on top of browser and device compatibility issues and web design trends and standards, as well as allow us to respond to feature requests and market changes in a timely fashion.

  • How do you deploy a stand alone app/game in java

I have a few questions regarding creating a stand alone app for java.
    1) What is the best way to deploy it? how would I create the exe, etc. I've read that you can create executable jars but this doesn't seem like something that would be user friendly
    2) Is there a way to deploy the game/app with it's own JVM so the hosts machine doesn't have to have it installed? How would I go about doing this?
    3) How would I run the app in full screen? What libraries are available?
    Any other advice/comments welcome.

@morgair: There are plenty of good reasons for using Java to develop software, even when you only plan on targeting Windows. As good as Java distribution is there is no way to guarantee that they a) have Java installed and more likely b) have the version you target installed. Telling a user that they need to go to a second website in order to download and install more software is a huge turn off.
Most PC users have no experience with a .jar so when they download it they just don't know what to do (even if all they need to do is double-click just like a .exe). Giving out an executable .jar is another turnoff.
    sarcasteak wrote:
    1) What is the best way to deploy it? how would I create the exe, etc. I've read that you can create executable jars but this doesn't seem like something that would be user friendlyIn terms of the .exe, Java does not create .exe's. There are some java to native compilers that will turn your java code into a natice .exe that will run on it's own or with a bundled library. However they are either old, buggy and badly supported, or extremely expensive (googling Java native compiler should give you some good results). There are also plenty 'java to exe' pieces of software. Rather then compiling the java code to native code they wrap the .jar up inside a .exe. When you run the .exe it unpacks the .jar and runs it. To the user it looks like a .exe, however it's still just an executable jar and still requires Java to be pre-installed on their machine in order to run (although some can offer custom error messages if Java is not found).
If Java is setup, then executable jars are essentially act the same as exe's. For creating them, if you are using NetBeans then they are already available in the project/dist folder after you build. You can also do it on the command line but I never need to so I don't know how. However as a tutorial [this site looks promising|http://neptune.netcomp.monash.edu.au/javahelp/howto/jar.htm].
I personally use a small .exe which I built using the D programming language. It reads from a text file in the same directory and executes each line in turn. Typically all the text file contains is 'java -jar MyProg.jar'. This way my .jars for the user looks like a .exe.
Instead of a .exe you could also use a .bat. There are also some .bat to .exe converters online, although I haven't tried any of them so use at your own risk.
    sarcasteak wrote:
    2) Is there a way to deploy the game/app with it's own JVM so the hosts machine doesn't have to have it installed? How would I go about doing this?Yes, you are allowed to redistribute the Sun Java runtime. Just zip up the JRE on your machine and include it with the app/game. You'll also need to ensure that whatever starts the jar uses your unzipped JRE and not the JRE on their machine. The exe I described above also allows this by having the text file contain something like: './my_jre/bin/java -jar MyProg.jar'.
But first you should also take a look at the license restrictions, they should be in the JREs directory. For example you must redistribute the complete JRE which is a problem if your app is just a few megabytes (when zipped the runtime is usually over 30mb). There are probably plenty of topics on this forum which already discuss redistribution of the JRE.
    sarcasteak wrote:
    3) How would I run the app in full screen? What libraries are available? If it's an app then it should be approximately:
    JFrame frame = new JFrame();
    frame.setExtendedState(JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH);or;
    JFrame frame = new JFrame();
frame.setExtendedState(frame.getExtendedState() | JFrame.MAXIMIZED_BOTH);However if you want a proper full screen then you need to use the [Full-Screen exclusive mode|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/extra/fullscreen/exclusivemode.html], approximately:
    JFrame frame = new JFrame();
GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getDefaultScreenDevice().setFullScreenWindow( frame );I've also heard plenty of people recommend using java web-start for desktop java apps. Personally I've never used it, but it's something you might want to research.

  • Will Lightroom stay a stand alone product?

I have to say that I am very disappointed with the whole CC concept.  Actually that is not quite true I don't mind if a company wants to offer a subscription service - I just don't want my software that way.  I have no desire to pay for software as a subscription.  I want to buy the products I want and have the right to use them for as long as I want.  So, the fact that Adobe is going to stop offering upgrades to Photoshop as stand alone product is disappointing and means I will be staying with CS5.
But more importantly if the plan is to make Lightroom available only as a subscription then I need to start planning a transition now.  I realize Lightroom is currently going to be sold as a stand alone product.  I am worried about the future.  Can Adobe make some kind of statement about their intentions?  I get that they cannot predict the far future but I would like some indication that the sky is not going to fall next year.

I agree with the Op and Mr Electron et al.
Remember Adobe is primarily a marketing company these days, with LR, CS et al their product.    What  (you might think) Adobe says today does not always match what Adobe will do tomorrow.
I have spent quite a lot of money on LR and Photoshop/CS over the last 10-12 years, not missing a release, keen to upgrade as early as possible (including Betas).  But that has been at my time of choosing & if/when I felt I could afford it or felt the software was at a stable enough level because you can't accuse Adobe of going over board on releasing bug-free or even bug-lite software.  (The thought of frequent update from Adobe is actually quite scary, all that time spent sorting the mess out ! )
But I have absolutely no desire to, and WILL NOT, use a subscription service/ cloud for this software be it CS or LR.
It definitely looks to me that its the way they're moving.  I feel this way because it not just about what they say its about what they don't say.  They are not saying it will not happen, only that no decision has been made - which could easily be deferred final decision until feedback on CS changes have had time to be measure.  It quite legitimate (business-sense) marketing approach. It means you can give an honest answer - 'not in the foreseeable future, no decision taken' - whilst still knowing  with almost certainty what the decision will be.
So, as I've 30,000 or so photos, I'm starting now to look at the alternatives, as even with such a modest number it will still take time to work out how easiest (and cheapest) to transfer to something else. And also to come to terms with what I will lose.  But better now than when I have 40,000 or 50,000 photos.
Sad days, but it was fun while it lasted
