Stand for placing external LCD on an MBP?

I'm about to buy a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and I'll be running it in clamshell mode at home. That is, it will be running closed while connected to a 23-inch Cinema Display and a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard. To minimize wasted desk space I'd like to keep my MBP under my LCD, but so far I have only found ugly plastic stands that do what I want.
It would be a shame to have such an ugly stand as the centerpiece of an otherwise elegant MBP and ACD combination. Any more aesthetic stand suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Found some decent alternatives on Amazon. Never mind.

  • External LCD Monitor - Older MBP

I have an older Macbook Pro, 2.16 C2D. The Graphics Card in it is an ATI Radeon X1600. I want acquire an external LCD monitor and I want to get one that is at least 1920x1080. Will I be able to use an HD monitor with my MBP and will it still look normal? Thanks.

The very first MBP (CD 2.16) supported external monitors up to 2560x1600,(such as the Apple 30") psiforce. So does the C2D with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600. See http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .16-15-specs.html
Any of them can do little 22 & 24" 1920x1080 monitors with one hand tied behind their back!

  • Best External LCD choice for my PB G4

    Hello,
Anybody can tell me what is a good 20"/21"/22" lcd for my PB 1.5 15" (Al) ?
I see the max resolution for the external monitor is 2048x1536... That's true???
    Thank You to All.

Also look into the higher end Dell monitors (any model that doesn't start with an E or SP). Cheaper than the Apple Cinema Displays with more features, better backlight uniformity, colour balance, and more. I got the 2407WFP-HC for $650 and don't regret a moment of it. Out of the box it provides great colour, and even better once calibrated. There's a 5-in-1 card reader, 4 port USB hub, DVI, VGA, Component, Composite, and S-Video inputs. Comes on a height adjustable stand with tilt and swivel. Easy to use menu systems too. Similar features are available on 20, 22, and 27-inch models.
2048x1536 is using the VGA adaptor for an analog connection. Using the DVI connection, you can power a monitor up to 1920x1080 digitally.
    Good luck!

Reinstall MacFuse with the one from http://www.tuxera.com/mac/macfuse-core-10.5-2.1.9.dmg. If that doesn't work, you can use Paragon NTFS for Mac 9.0 which has been designed to work with Lion.

  • Question about iLap  stand for MBP

I would like to purchase a cooling stand for my new MBP 17".
Does any one have any comments on the iLap?
    Thank you

To me it looks clunky, over-engineered and overly expensive. Have you tried simply using a plastic chopping board for a couple of dollars from the local supermarket or bargain shop? Works for many!
I'm personally not a fan of "complex" or "high tech" cooling pads and the like, but if you are sure you need something more than a chopping board you might find the one HERE interesting. At least it is not a clunky as the iLap and a fair bit cheaper.

  • Ergonomic Laptop Stands for MBP 17

I'm looking for a good ergonomic laptop stand for the MBP 17. The main features I'm looking for:
    - has to be comfortable while sitting on a couch or in bed
    - has to effectively help in cooling
I've looked at the iLap, but I'm not too convinced that it effectively cools the machine. Sure, it's aluminum but its flat and that little hole in the middle I feel is more for show than function.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks to all in advance.

Congratulations on deciding to use a laptop tray or stand for using your notebook in bed or on a couch. Even the least ergonomic ones will leave an air space beneath the computer (important for cooling) and will protect you from the heat of the case bottom.
I've used or tested a variety of trays or stands over the years.
For my 15" MPB I've bought a KoolSink aluminum tilt stand. It's a very simple and quite effective design. It protects the finish of my desks and keeps the MBP's case cooler during operation. I like the tilt angle for typing. It works reasonably well for laptop use. And it's convenient for travel, as the MBP will fit inside it and the two together fit into my laptop bag (I slip a sheet of paper between them, to protect the finish of the MBP).
The price, especially combined with a high shipping cost, may seem high for what is really no more than a well-conceived and formed sheet of aluminum. But it is effective.
I also like the iLap. I think the KoolSink is a bit more effective in cooling while the notebook is in desktop use, and the KoolSink is more compact for travel use.
But if I planned to make more use of the MBP in my lap than I normally do, I would have chosen the iLap.
Both the KoolSink and the iLap assist cooling by providing more metal heatsink to absorb and dissipate heat by convection to the air. Both do a good job of leaving air space under the notebook and protecting the user while in laptop use.
I don't see any advantage to using trays with little built-in fans that draw current from the computers battery. Many of them are made of plastic (no heatsink/convection transfer value to speak of) and some are shoddily made.

  • What is the maximum resolution for an external monitor for a 13" BMP

I have a new MBP 13 and a new Samsung LED 23" monitor that is spec'd at 1920x1080 resolution. However the maximum resolution I can get (using Display) for the external monitor is 1600x900 (or 1600x1200 stretched). What could be causing this limitation?

Are you guys able to resolve the issue with the Samsung HDTV LCD monitor? I just bought the Samsung B2230HD but having some image issue. I am connecting to the LCD from my macbook pro using Mini Display Port -> DVI -> HDMI but the image on the LCD is very grainy where the text is not sharp at all. The mac is able to detect the correct resolution of 1920x1080 though

  • Question: External LCD Options

    Greetings:
I'm interested in using a 32" LCD TV as an external monitor with my MBP (Specs Below). I have found an LG with a 120 Hz refresh rate, etc. What kind of screen resolution am I going to get with this type of a display? I'm mainly looking to get more real estate for FCS and Logic Studio. Any suggestions/recommendations on what I should be looking for? I can get a 30" Cinema display for around $700, which is a bit more than the LCD TV I'm looking at...
Any help, recommendations, would be greatly appreciated!...
    Blessings,

Is there any particular reason you're looking at a TV rather than a Monitor ? The best Monitors these days are LED and you can get one's much cheaper than Apple's Cinema Display.
I'd recommend you check out the BenQ range of LED Monitors

  • External LCD Flickers Pink?

I'm running a MBP 2.0ghz core duo with an ATI Radeon 1600 video card. I've noticed that my external LCD monitor flickers from time to time a pink color or will have a pink hue to it. I've checked the video cables and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. The picture on the MBP screen is fine, I have no problems. My personal opinion is my external LCD is dying, it's about 5-7 years old. Does anyone have a different opinion or agree with mine?

Connect a different external monitor to the MBP and see whether it displays similar anomalies. If it behaves itself properly, things don't look so good for your old monitor. The good news is that you can buy a much better monitor today for less money than that one cost.

  • Screen no longer works, help getting set up with external LCD?

So my Titanium Macbook Pro's screen went out yesterday and it's no longer covered so I've been trying to figure out how to get it to work with an external LCD monitor.
I can get it to boot up, and I can even get it to open itunes via Spotlight and hit play and hear music, so I know all else is (hopefully) fine.
The monitor I have is an "Acer LCD Monitor AL1916W A" and I have the adaptor going out of my MBP to a VGA cord that then connects to the Acer.
I read this page to get the idea to do this: http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/21/broken-macbook-pro-screen-turn-it-into-a-desktop- mac/
But I cannot get the Acer screen to recognize the MBP and show an image. The Acer powers up and shows it's logo but then says 'no signal'.
I tried to blindly Spotlight > System Preferences > Displays but can't get anywhere from there. I tried to restart it and close the screen but no-go.
    Help?

  • My New External LCD is blurry with the Macbook but not my PC

So I recently bought a widescreen 19" LCD (1440 x 900 native). When I'm using my PC through the monitor's VGA connection, the image is nice and crisp. When I use my Macbook through the DVI port, the image is significantly blurry. Both are running at the monitor's native resolution.
Any ideas what might be going on here? It's usable but very annoying and disappointing.

I believe the max resolution for macbook is 1280 x 800 (internal/built in), which is lower than external lcd native resolution. But here is said :
Extended desktop and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 1920 by 1200 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors
taken from the macbook specs table.
Do check the system preference of what resolution displayed on the external one, and change the resolution back and forth and see which is the best resolution for it.
    Good Luck

  • External LCD Monitor Connection - Unacceptable Quality

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a Mac, hoping that I would be able to connect to my external LCD monitor (19" Samsung SyncMaster 920NW - only VGA connection).
I have easily hooked up my monitor to my Mac. However, what I see is of unacceptable quality. When compared to Macbook display, the display on the external monitor is darker and the text looks horrible. I have played with few settings but nothing good.
I have read other threads where people complain about similar things. But, I thought Samsung's monitors would be of higher quality. Mine is a relatively cheap LCD but not this cheap
I am just willing to confirm that I am not missing anything. I simply can't believe that the display quality could be this bad. In the worst case, I will have to buy a new LCD.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello stedman1,
Thank you for your quick reply.
Unfortunately, it is not running in the Mirror mode. The display with the mirror mode was even worse! But after reading the posts in the forum, I have learned how to change it to the extended display. It is better than the mirror mode, but still not good enough.
Maybe I am making a mistake comparing the external monitor with the MacBook's monitor?? There is a huge gap between the two. It is a lot darker, and the text quality is way worse.
Someone with a similar monitor having solved this issues?
    Thanks,
    Guven.
