Standalone inventory possible on individual workstations?

We've been using Zenworks Inveontory for some time, and for remote
inventory
it does a good job. However, I'm now running into a situation where
we
need to be able to do "standalone" inventories, i.e. run an inventory
on a
machine that, for one reason or another, cannot be registered or
imported
into our Zenworks database, or maybe not even remotely accessed.
I know there are many 3rd party software utilities that will do this -
you
run a small executible on the workstation from a floppy or removeable
media,
and it reports the info back to a destination of your choosing. What
I'm
wondering is if Zenworks has a component that could be used for this
type of
functionality.
I did find this in a cool solutions page, but I don't necessarily need
to
import the info into Zenworks - I just need to run an inventory on a
"non-connected" machine.
"Inventory of Non-Connected Machines
Question: Peter H. wrote: We're about to implement ZENworks 3.0 in mycompany, and are looking forward to it.
We have approximately 300 machines which will be imported into our
ZENworks
database. We also have 50 machines which are placed at our employees'
homes,
and these machines are not connected to the network.
We have the idea that ZENworks is going to be our system to maintain a
list
of what equipment our users have, both in the office and at home.
Is it possible to make an inventory of a machine and then import it
into
ZENworks?
Answer: This is in ZfD4, which will be releasing very soon. "
Any ideas of using Zen 3.2 to run a "non-connected" inventory?

  • Inventory Scans Slow down Workstation

I'm running ZfD 3.2 and have the inventory policy set to to scan machines
once a day at 'Below Normal' priority. When inventory runs, workstations
bog-down, not due to the inventory scanner process, but because the
workstation's virus scan sofware scans the files as they are opened by
the scanner. The workstation virus scnan software is McAffee VSE 7.1.
Has anyone found a way to disable virus scanning while inventory is
running and re-enable it when the scan is finished? There isn't any
option on the inventory scheduler to run a pre or post execution script.
    Thanks.

No, not that I am aware of. What happens if you choose a higher
priority ? Does it change anything ?

  • Inventory doesn't remove workstation

    Hi,
I have zenworks 4.0.1 with Sybase, but now I have a lot of workstations
that now they aren't in the NDS, and I want to remove them. I know that
we can't remove these workstations manually, but I try to follow the
steps that I've seen in the knowledge database, but I can't. I think that
I'm doing something wrong. Could anybody guide me?
    Thanks

Ok, you are right, but I have the same problem. I open
    \\Nwzen\DATOS\ZENworks\Inv\server\WmInv\properties \InventoryRemoval.propet
    ies and I write FilePath=DATOS:ZENworks/Inv/server/WmInv/properties/
then I write on the Server Console startser NDSLookupForDB and then it
    writes:
    startser NDSLookupForDB
    InvEnv.NCF
    Loading module JAVA.NLM [Not Multiple]
    InvEnvSet
After that, it switchs to ZENworks Workstaion Import windows, and I check
that there is a file in
    \\Nwzen\DATOS\ZENworks\Inv\server\WmInv\properties called
DeleteWSList.txt which is empty (0 Kb)

  • Inventory scan slows the workstation down

    Hi,
we use zfd 4 since more than 3 years. (server 5.1SP8 with ZFD 4IR7)
The inventory runs fine before we have begun to install all the Windows
    XP patches.
We tried many netware client and zfd client versions. But the
ntscan32.exe needs now more than 10 minutes to scan our workstations
(new hardware DELL Latitude D-Series). During this time you cannot work
with this workstations, even it is a full or differential scan.
We play a little with the inventory policies, but nothing helps. Policy
is configured to run on system start with software and hardware scan.
    Any ideas?

no, but we found the problem:
We have about 48 application objects with XP patches and every
application has its own dependencies. It seems that the checking of
these dependencies simultaneously to the inventory scan causes the slow
downs. After we have deleted the associations to the workstation
    objects everything looks like before.
Now we think the NAL has some problems to work with complex
    dependencies.

  • Inventory windows 95/98 workstation

We 've juste install ZFD 4.01 and we would like to inventory our windows
95/98 workstation, but it don't work.
How to do this with ZFD 4.01 ?

umm... you've asked this in the zen3x inventory forum, but if you're
talking about w98 not w98SE, then I guess that this is the right place.
The ONLY way this can be done is if you install ZfD3.2 and upgrade to
    ZfD4.x from there

  • Inventory Sync deleted ALL workstations!!!

Background: ZFD4 w/ SP1b Inv database (was upgraded from ZFD32)
Our INV database had approximately 2100 workstations inventoried in it, some
of which were workstation objects that had since been deleted so I wanted
them out of the DB. I unloaded and loaded the inventory service, as
mentinoed in teh TID in order for the STABLE.SER file to be updated. I then
setup the sync schedule to run and let it do its thing.
After running, I now have 120 workstations in my inventory DB.
Where did all off my workstation objects go?? Do I now have to wait for the
DB to re-populate as machines are re-inventoried?
    This is quite frustrating!!!

Question would have been why the sync service thinks you have "wrong"
workstations in your DB. To answer that we would have need to look at
the debug file while the sync service runs.
Are you making backups from your database ?
You can just restore the files.

  • Possibility of individual V2 postings for depreciation

    Dear experts,
We have implemented parallel accounting using account method for
company code 3DEM. Thus, for depreciation area 10 we have configured it
to do a V2 update posting.
While posting depreciation, the system generates two accounting
documents - one for area 01 and other for area 10. However, the
granularity of postings is different. It seems the posting for area 10
are getting summarized at some level.
Is there a possibility of getting the same number of line item postings
for area 10, corresponding to the postings in area 01.
This will help us in reconciliation. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Vishal Thakur.

    Hi Vishal,
Can you please let me know the below details?
    1.  Depreciation areas created, the target ledgers
    2.  Posting in GL Indicator set for deprecaition areas.
What i have understood from you posting is, when you execute the depreciation run you want to post some values to depreciation area 01 and different values for another depreciation area connected to Non-leading ledger.
If it is so, you can have a ledger group with only non leading ledger and assign it to Target Ledger Group  (depreciation area you are using for non - leading ledger).

  • Is it possible to individually identify a response to a Forms central survey?

I am suggesting affixing a predetermined code (6 digit) to each response, which is exportable to an excel spreadsheet.
This is for the purposes of tracking who has responded without using any other cumbersome method.

    Hi Randy,
Thank you for your prompt reply, and your acknowledgement raises another issue:
If all form surveys administered through FormsCentral are just anonymously ‘sent to’ and ‘received from’
respondents (except for email acknowledgements) then may I request an enhancement to the service,
which simply attaches a unique code(apart from date & time) to the response set each time a new respondent
    submits a survey form.
This same code could also be attached to email acknowledgements sent back to forms central. This way at least
individual response sets can be linked to an email address. This requirement is fundamental to proper administration
of large surveys. Thanks Andrew Corbett

  • AD Network, clients receiving DHCP config from standalone routers - possible?

A local Active Directory network is broken into multiple subnets, each behind a stand-alone router (not a Windows server) that also distributes DHCP configuration to its own client computers.
Is it going to work? Are there any problems to expect?

DHCP authorization process isn't client based service i.e. when you are using standalone DHCP server that is based on Windows Server it sends an authorization request to check, and if it found any authorized one it will stop leasing IP addresses. But
third party DHCP servers doesn't send this request and if there is Authorized DHCP server and standalone one, then the best and faster offer will lease the IP address for clients.
I hope this helps you to understand the process

  • Monitoring login times of individual workstations using ARD

Does anybody know if it is possible to obtain login times of client machines using ARD, maybe using Report. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

There is no such report. You might try Send Unix Command, sending the command "last"... That may give you what you want.

Check with wmsched.exe, you can force a run via that if you wish.

  • 027: Unable to read the sequence number from the Workstation object

    Environment:
    NW 6.5 sp4
    Zen 6.5 sp1
We had a problem with our inventory server processing .STR files a couple
months ago - had to turn off inv. policies on workstations while we resolved
it. Now it's resolved and we're running inventory again. We have a large
number of workstations reporting this error:
027: Unable to read the sequence number from the Workstation object
They have no data in the DB, although they do have minimal scan info, and
the last scan status date matches that of the sequence number error.
I've seen this sporadically in the past and have been able to resolve it by
initiating a full scan on the individual workstation. However, that does
not seem to be making a difference this time.
Novell's troubleshooting document basically says see if the server's
running, and see if there's data for the workstation in the db. Then call
    tech support.
    Any other ideas?

The machines I'm troubleshooting have valid formats for their STR names,
but that doesn't necessarily mean they are valid STR sequence numbers.
Does removing the value in the reg key cause the STR file name to be
    recreated?

I've verified that none of our images contain the c:\zenworks history
folder, and we run a script that cleans up any zenworks items before
sysprep (i.e. makes sure there's no registration info on the
workstations, etc). Our imaging scripts also clear any ZIS info to
avoid any duplication as well, so I don't think imaging would be causing
    this.

Good tip about the hist.ini file, I didn't know about that. It does not
solve the sequence number error, but it does seem to force a full scan
of the system and cause the new scan to be stored in the DB, which was
    not happening before.
    Thanks!

  • How can I get an accurate count of computers (workstations) logged in to my SQL Server database?

We license our software by number of workstations.
I have a query that I have used for years to get an accurate count of the workstations logged in to my SQL Server database. For simplicity, all users use the same login name/password. This is built in to the script that attaches to the DB. They
have access only to that DB with the exception of
USE [Master] GRANT VIEW SERVER STATE to MyUser
The query that has been working is below:
Basically this relies on the mac address (Master.dbo.sysprocesses.net_addre
SELECT COUNT(Users) AS UserCount FROM (SELECT COUNT(Master.dbo.sysprocesses.hostname) AS Users FROM Master.dbo.sysprocesses LEFT OUTER JOIN Master.dbo.sysdatabases ON Master.dbo.sysdatabases.dbid = Master.dbo.sysprocesses.dbid WHERE (Master.dbo.sysdatabases.name = 'MyDatabase') GROUP BY Master.dbo.sysprocesses.net_address) AS UserCount_1
ss), since both Workstation names and ip addresses can be duplicated.
Recently this has stopped working at a number of customers. Suddenly individual workstations are showing multiple net addresses for the same workstation causing a substantial overcount of users. This may be related to SQL Server 2012 - not sure.
What I need is a very reliable way to get a count of workstations logged in to my database.
If anyone can tell me why I am suddenly getting multiple net_addresses for each workstation and how to prevent that that would be one possible solution.
Otherwise if anyone can give me a rock solid way to get a workstation count other than the above that would be great. Our largest customer is 50 users by the way.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kim

I think your count is getting skewed because of duplicate rows in sysprocesses because of parallelism. Add DISTINCT to your query:
    SELECT COUNT(Users) AS UserCount
    FROM
    ( SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT Master.dbo.sysprocesses.hostname) AS Users
FROM Master.dbo.sysprocesses LEFT OUTER JOIN Master.dbo.sysdatabases
    ON Master.dbo.sysdatabases.dbid = Master.dbo.sysprocesses.dbid
    WHERE (Master.dbo.sysdatabases.name = 'MyDatabase'
    GROUP BY Master.dbo.sysprocesses.net_address) AS UserCount_1
