Standalone windows 7 on an MBP 15in mid-2010?

My MBP has 2 HDDs installed inside. I have removed the optical drive and replaced it with a 500GB HDD. I'm trying to boot into WIndows 7 install using a USB optical drive but it is stuck at the "Windows is loading files" screen. This is the screen before the graphical install is shown.
My MBP currently has 10.8 installed updated to whatever is the latest update. Not sure what bios/firmware is installed.
Any thoughts? Thanks

Remove the second drive.
Update your profile which says you are running Snow Leopard. People will respond based on your profile if they miss that you said you are running Mountain Lion.

  • Why is my MBP 13 mid 2010 not waking up and gets hot

My MBP 13" mid 2010 will get very hot and won't wake up after going to sleep. Have to restart using the power button.

    plumber2014,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as you. Have you tried resetting its System Management Controller?

  • Crashs of MBP 13 mid-2010 (MC375LL/A)

    Hi,
    I am using a a MBP 13 mid-2010 (MC375LL/A) with the following characteristics
    MacBookPro 7,1
    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6GHz
RAM: 8Gb (2x4Gb in replacement of the 2x2Gb)
HDD: WD Blue 500Go 5400trs/min (in replacement of 320Go)
    GPU: Nvidia 320M 256Mo
    OSX: Maverick 10.9.1
Use: office software applications + Multimedia + scientific computing and development (one raeson for changing the RAM)
Since the middle of december 2013, the MBP crashes many times a day. It stops by many differents ways:
    - black, white, blue, orange or green screen and freezes (I need to hold power button to shutdown);
    - come back to logon screen;
    - reboot (black text on gray brackground screen);
    - screen with many multicolor lines;
    - just freeze (I need to hold power button to shutdown);
These problems happen with battery (i need to change it (670 cycles)) but also with magsafe. When the MBP crashs, I am not doing special thing (sometimes just on website, sometimes on youtube watching video...) but it is very randomly.
Sometimes I can obtain a Kernel Panic but sometimes not.
You can find at the following link the last kernel panic I obtained http://goo.gl/mPR29q
So I am looking for one solution to deal with this problem.
    Thank you in advance

Sounds like you have the mid-2010 problem. There's an issue with the graphics module on that machine. There was a program in place to replace the motherboard within 3 years of purchase, but you're probably outside of that. Some folks have supposedly gotten theirs changed outside of that period, so you can try.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
What you can do to use it is download gfxstatus from http:gfx.io and force the graphics to Intel.

  • MBP, 15", mid-2010, Yosemite, is sluggish!

    Hello,
I have read the post below this one "MacBook suddenly started running slow" posted by "stephjonas", and have completed the first step given by Linc as follows....  (also, I checked my battery cycle count which is 262 out of a maximum of 1,000)
"First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
                   Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself,                solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web                browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|find tok|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that                opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the                TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit                window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that."
I completed this step and the anonymized results are as follows:

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO NEXT?  Thank you all in advance...

"Hacked" is not my terminology, and I don't believe it's intended to be derogatory. What you describe is a perfectly legitimate reason to alter Hosts.
If your Mac still isn't working as expected after uninstalling Intego and Trend Micro, read on. The necessity to have a reliable backup cannot be overstated, since what you describe may be an indication of impending disk failure.
Back up your Mac if you have not already done so. To learn how to to that read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
If your Mac is momentarily unresponsive, consider the following.
Launch the Console app - it is in your Utilities folder. You can find it by selecting Utilities from the Finder's Go menu.
If the log list column on the left is not already displayed, show the log list by selecting Show Log List from Console's View menu. Select Show Toolbar if it is not already shown.
Locate system.log in the list and select it. Many date and time-stamped entries will appear, hundreds of them, and you must find the entries relevant to your Mac's problem.
To do that click the Clear Display button in the Toolbar. All previously displayed log entries will be disappear.
Next: Perform whatever actions cause the Mac to exhibit the slow behavior. If the problem is caused by errors logged by the system, the Console window will show them being recorded in system.log.
One or more of them, along with their time stamps, may reveal the reason for the problem you describe.
Copy and paste those log entries in a reply. If hundreds of the same repetitive messages appear, please edit them before posting. There should be no need for more than a few log entries.
Most of the entries will be cryptic but will contain information you might consider personal such as your Mac's name. If you do not want that information to appear, delete or obscure it when posting your reply. Leave enough information so that the entries can be deciphered.

  • Windows 7 blue screen on Mid 2010 iMac running 10.8

I had previously had the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium running on my mid 2010 iMac running 10.7. However, after upgrading to 10.8, my Windows installation would blue screen after booting. I suspect this was due to upgrading to 10.8 as I didn't make any changes to my Windows install because I only use it for gaming.
I've since removed the Windows partition, and tried a clean install via the Boot Camp Assistant. Windows installs just fine and boots cleanly. However, after installing the Apple Boot Camp drivers (freshly downloaded during the Boot Camp Assistant process), Windows blue screens upon booting. I can repair the Windows install using the built in process, but any attempt to install Apple's drivers results in blue screening. I've tried a clean Windows install and redownloading Apple's drivers several times with no luck.
Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem? Thank you for your help!

I do see this. And I suspect Windows updates. Not Apple (though I would be the first to suspect those too).
iMac graphic drivers for Windows seem touchy and common. The April Windows monthly patch updates hit a few iMac users.
One person found that if they only did updates in smaller steps and not all at once they were fine.
Tuesday this week was another Patch Tuesday.
Games, heat, disk blocks, even RAM errors - one person recently we went round and round... bad blocks not heat, new disk drive and they were 100% stable and rock solid but was hard to rule out. Windows though is easier to test RAM and sectors. And Lion was not even aware or sensitive to those bad sectors and read errors OR RAM errors that Memtest clearly showed (run in OS X).
One person had upgraded RAM, low and behold the new DIMMs were just not fully pushed in and seated and making good contacts.
Try to rule out hardware. Maybe you stumbled on bad block being used now. Run chkdsk if nothing else.
And when updating or preparing to, run Registry cleaner in CCleaner first, Go To %TEMP% and remove everything there. Make a system backup image to another disk drive (NTFS) or with WinClone 3 (HFS, $20) or CampTune ($20).
Or it could just be uninstall one driver at a time, start with GPU, look at what was last installed. Windows drivers are not desireable for GPU. Get the one from AMD or Nvidia instead.

  • Installing Windows 8.1 on a Mid-2010 13-inch MB Pro, with an iso file.

    Hi Everyone,
My first post, so bare with me.
I'm hoping to get some help here, after almost trying everthing on the menu.
What im looking for is an explanation on how i can get Windows 8.1 installed on my MB Pro, with the use on iso file. I have downloaded, the necesarry BootCamp Drivers etc. When i launch the Bootcampassistant the only options I am able to choose from are: 1: Download the latest Windows support software from Apple and 2: Install Windows 7.
If any of have the solution to my problem, please do comment.
    Thanks,
    HB

Read the Boot Camp guides, especially the Boot Camp system requirements located here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634.
The system requirements for your computer indicate that your computer does not suppot Windows 8.1.

Hey guys, I've got quite a big problem at the moment... In December, I bought a MacBook7,1 (the Mid-2010 Unibody model) and used my OS X install disc whenever I wanted to install Windows XP/Vista/7 drivers to my Boot Camp partition. However, I've recently got quite a bit of a problem...
See, I can't find my OS X Install Disc. So I have to use, from within the Boot Camp Assistant, the "Download the Windows support software for this Mac" function, to be able to burn to DVD/install to a USB stick.
Now, this function up until recently used to work completely fine - no issues at all. However I need to reinstall my Windows 7  (again, I know, Windows has quite a few problems but I really do need to use it for what I do - gaming, etc) again, and whenever I try this option in the last... week, I'd wager, it comes up with "Download could not be continued" and "The Windows Support Software is unavailable" errors.
I've checked on this forum and some people are saying that Apple removed the support software for some Macintosh computers? What on Earth? What about us lot who don't have our OS X install discs anymore?! I don't think it's fair they've specifically gimped a functionality that was working fine until a bit ago for no apparent reason. It's just... stopped working. Is this for everyone?
Is there some alternative I can use? I've tried everything. I don't have someone I could just borrow the OS X install disc from and I think it's rather unfair if they expect to me to shell out for an OS X install disc again when I could previously do what I wanted for free!!!

The point isn't whether I lost them, the point is that I was able to use the Boot Camp Assistant previously fine to download the Win Support Software and put that on a USB stick (which has since been formatted for other usage).
Since this was made available as an option, I haven't really had much need for the OS X install discs (Unless I really, really needed to reinstall OS X at some point but I have no reason to fear that right?). To claim this being "okay" because I've misplaced the discs is rather outrageous.

  • Installing Windows 7 on MacBook Pro mid-2010 13" with Mavericks?

Hello, my 13" macbook pro mid-2010 is only capable of running BootCamp 4, but has Mavericks which can only run BootCamp 5. Is there any way to get around this to install Windows 7 through Bootcamp or any ways to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion without a Time Machine backup? I also know that virtual machines and Parallels are out there, but I need a separate partition for Windows for gaming.
    Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Apple Support.  They have decided to make MacBook Pro mid 2010 models non-compatible with BootCamp 5.  They have also decided to make OS Mavericks only compatible with BootCamp 5.  Therefore it will not work at all unless you downgrade your OS.  It is not possible to use BootCamp on mid 2010 MB Pros with Mavericks.

  • MBP 17" mid 2010 Snow Leopard Native: why not possible to install Snow Leopard in some new Hard disk?It appears "impossibile 'cause you have Mac OS X" 23.1.1."

Guys, I want to install SL in some hard disk. It's the native OS, the one came with the MBP. But after having installed Lion, my MBP doesn't allow me to install from the original dvd of Snow Leopard, telling me "impossible because you have Mac OS X” 23.1.1. istaller".
    Someone can help me?

hey thank you for your answers. I've written that I want to install snow leopard in a new hard disk, not over the lion. In other words, I want a hard disk with the faster snow leopard, that was the native OSX of my MBP mid 2010. But using the last procedure you suggested me, the dvd doesn't appear. I repeat, there's something changed in the firmware that blocks snow leopard.
the comunication that appears when I insert the original dvd of SL is something like "impossible to install snow leopard because you have Mac OS X” 23.1.1. istaller".

  • Trackpad glitchy when charging mbp 13" mid 2010

Hi everyone, i have a mid 2010 MBP 13" and when i am charging it the trackpad becomes completely erratic. Any suggestions? Any easy fix or is this a repair or new charger case? Any other times the trackpad is fine only when charging !! Thanks callum.

This sounds like a job for the genius at the Genius Bar in the Apple Store.  Bring your charger with you.  Good luck.
    Ciao.

  • Mbp 13 mid 2010 freezes

hi all my mbp 13" late 2010 freezes I have to press the power button to get working again

I just got my mid 2010 Macbook Pro back from Apple for the second repair in two weeks (first they replaced the logic board and then they replaced the harddrive). I was having the computer freezes like you described and having to do a hard restart to unfreeze. I took it into the Apple Store for help. The Apple Genius ran some test and found my logic board needed to be replaced. Thank goodness for Apple Care, because without it the cost of the repair was over $500. Now my screen no longer freezes in sleep; however, I started having kernel panics moments after starting the computer. I took the computer back to the Apple Store 3 days after getting it back from the first repair. The Apple Genius duplicated the issue in the store and sent my Macbook Pro out for repairs. It came back a week later with a new hardrive.I am still experiencing kernel panics, which is weird because before the logicboard repair this never happened; however, not immediately after restarting the computer once the hard drive was replaced.

  • Blue screen tint with Yosemite 10.10.1 - MBP 15" Mid 2010 Model 6,2

Who is having this issue, have you resolved it, and how did you do it:  Coinciding with Yosemite 10.10.1. my entire screen has begun to take on a blue tint.  This was not an issue with 10.10.0.  This is a MacBook Pro 6,2 with 4GB system RAM.  Graphics is with built-in Intel HD Graphics (and standard 288MB VRAM), and the standard NVidia GeForce GT330M graphics in PCI (and 256MB VRAM).
The blue cast appears when using Microsoft Outlook 2011 (back to normal when it quits), Adobe Photoshop CS6 (sometimes yes, sometimes no), and intermittently when running Firefox or Safari (where the blue cast seems to coincide with invoking plug-ins).   All of these applications are up to date.
    Attempts to resolve this include:
    1) Downloaded and installed the latest software updates for Outlook, Photoshop, Firefox and Safari.  Made no difference.
    2) System Preferences -> Displays -> Color -> Calibrate.  I initially thought that the Color Sync profile had been corrupted, but the color was so 'off' that my attempt to manually recalibrate the screen could not go far enough.  So I abandoned this.
    3) System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Automatic Graphics Switching.  Checking Automatic Graphics Switching works, but un-checking it and the blue cast comes back immediately.
    4) Running Disk Utilities -> Repair Permissions.  Didn't work.
    5) Cleared all caches using Onyx: Worked for 10 minutes, then blue came back
    6) Reset PRAM: Worked for two days, now the blue is back.

Hi, I also have had this issue on my MBP 15' Mid 2015 but not since updating to Yosemite.
Recently I have upgraded the optical drive to a SSD with a fresh install of Yosemite and everything was working well until I installed Photoshop & Dreamweaver CC along with the latest Java. When I opened Dreamweaver for the first time the screen switched to a blue tint but reverted when the program was closed. When using the Spotify app, along with the blue tint I noticed some lines randomly distorted on the display.
I installed the above Nvidia driver and also uninstalled the Adobe Flash Player after reading on another old discussion there has been an issue with it leaking memory. Maybe there is a similar issue with the latest release? This seems to have fixed my problem, sorry I cannot say which one of the above worked, I completed both steps before restarting. I still need to reinstall a previous version of Flash player so I will get back if I have any updates.

  • Audio Jack Stuck on Input (MBP 13" Mid 2010)

    Hello,
The audio jack on my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro is stuck on "input" mode. Whenever I plug in headphones and change the setting to output and try to put a signal through it (like changing the volume using the F11 and F12 keys), the computer freezes and resets the audio jack setting to input again. I know that the headphones are not the problem since they work fine with other MacBooks and my iPhone, and I have tried other headphones and gotten the same result. I'm running OSX 10.9.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello dipp293,
I'd suggest resetting your system's SMC and PRAM.

  • Lion freeze at start up mbp 13" mid 2010

I've recently installed Lion on my macbook pro 13" mid 2010. Then it freezed end i never got it back up again. If I start up my mac, the screens just black. Sometimes it freezes when the spinning wheel is visible. If I try to boot with the recovery partition it freezes to. Plus my lion DVD is now stuck in my machine.
    Can someone please help!
    thanks in advance.
And offcourse my waranty is expired for 2 weeks.

if it is a mid-2010, and you purchased the machine from July 2010 to May 25, 2011, and bought AppleCare, the AppleCare is good to 3 years from date of the computer's purchase.   If you haven't bought AppleCare, and it was purchased after May 26, but around June 9th, you still have an opportunity to buy AppleCare now and register it right away.  Any hardware repair will likely cost more than AppleCare itself. So you might as well get it.
You can try these methods to eject the disc.  Command-S at startup gives you a command line you can attempt it from.
Once you clarify if you can still get AppleCare, do you have the original installer CDs?

  • Reliability Report... MBP 13" Mid-2010...

    Hi:
I'm thinking of buying a refurbed mid-2010 MacBook Pro 13" 2.4 Ghz from Apple.
(I haven't been following this board since I have a different Mac.)
I'd like to know if the overall reliability of this model was great/good/average? Were there any notable problem areas? If so, a brief list would help so I can search the board further.
    Thanks Very Much.

I miss Classic as well, but I was able to use Basilisk and extract the ROM file from my old Powerbook to run certain games that I enjoy from the Classic environment. So far - very successful except there is only one game that won't run very well, otherwise no complaints.
I prefer Basilisk over SheepShaver because I find you can only run OS9 with SS and Basilisk you can go even earlier than OS9.
    <unquote>
My interest is in mid-late PowerPC apps that I can still run happily in Classic. Most aren't utterly necessary, but gee, I'm still running KeyQuencer macros in Classic as well.
Still doing all my word processing in ClarisWorks 4.
Still using Photoshop 3.05 for touch up... along with a very nifty script I wrote years ago using AppleScript and KeyQuencer to auto resize, lighten/darken and sharpen photos. Worked on refinements to the script just today.
Still doing what FTP'ing I do with Anarchie 2.0.1.
Still print from Classic to a StyleWriter 2200 through a serial adaptor.
Still on dialup at (about) 24 K.
Though I now <MUCH> prefer OS X to 9, as you can see, old habits and apps die hard.
Just wish I could upgrade to the latest Safari version.
Ironic that lack of browser upgradability is what forced me off of 9 and on to X.
    The more things change...
