Standard Account Problems

I recently created a separate admin account and switched the one I use for day to day tasks to a standard account. I have to enter the admin password and account name to join my Airport network every time I restart my computer along with using Disk Utility and with a few other things. I know you have to enter the admin password from time to time, but this seems kind of excessive, so my questions are, is it supposed to prompt me for that information after every startup, and if it is, is it possible to add these to my keychain so I don't have to re-enter them everyday?

My Airport network is password protected, but I only had to enter the pw once and it recognized it from then on, even after restarting. It sounds like the second user account needs to have Admin access as well, you should try it and see if it makes a difference.

  • Is there a problem with itunes (11.1 latest version) on a windows 7 non-administrator (standard) account?

When I tried to update my dad's iphone 5 to iOS 7 on a windows 7 standard account an unknown error was encountered and he lost everything! It also doesn't recognise my mum's iphone 4s (already updated to iOS 7), it gets an error, but her phone works fine on my administrator account. Do non-administrator restrictions cause problems? Any support would be really valued. Thanks.

I think there is a problem. I dont get the noises on each song even though that happened to me on a previous update but rather than being a sporadic click it was a very loud hiss over every single track...
The latest problem with my copy is that the songs are only playing out of one speaker and its not even the centre speakers, its the left speaker.
The last time itunes didnt work properly it took apple around a week or so to correct so im not worried at the moment but i have to use windows media player in the mean time which I dont like to use.

  • After Every CLEAN Wipe my APP Store in a Standard Account Downloads Weird Software Automatically, EVERY TIME!!

    Hello everyone,
I have a very weird situation that is going on that keeps happening to me and has caused many "Weird" situations on my Retina MBP and other Mac's that I own.  I did have some of this in another thread, but most people simply don't think what I am describing is really happening, etc.
To date I have spoken with many Mac Genius's at multiple Apple Stores, I have spoken with many Level 2 Apple Care Rep and now have an Apple Certified IT person that visits my house once or twice a week trying to figure out what is going on.
    Anyway....
I will give a quick example and if anyone can explain this to me or has had a similiar experience I would love to hear back!! .....
So I have about 6 macs for my current and past business.  Plus I always love grabbing the newest technology.  That said this "Problem" occurs with every Mac I own.  Even to a brand new MBP Retina that no one has had access to.  I keep Firmware PW's on, I only use Eithernet connections, I have a $600 Hardware Firewall configured to let nothing in (No VPN's, etc)... obviously have sharing off, **** I don't even use Bluetooth.
Anyway when I wipe the drive I do it like this...
1.) Take out both the MAC HD and Recovery Partion....
2.) I have 50 MBPS Download Speed so Internet Recovery is very quick.  I go through the normal process.
3.) Once I have reached the new recovery partition from the Internet Recovery I partion the SSD a couple times in different formats and then go back to the normal Journaled that I will be using for my single partioned SSD
4.) Then I install and go through all the normal steps, expect I skip everything that I can.  I don't add location services, I set time manually and I don't sign into iCloud as this will be my Admin Account.  I normally just call the account Main or Admin.
5.) I check for updates and install any that might have not been included in the most recent Internet Recovery.
6). In the Admin  Account I set a tough PW and then begin with all the security options.  Again all sharing off, Firewall on, Wifi Off and requires Admin Access to Turn on, No Peer-to-Peer Networking without Admin Access, Bluetooth Off, Java and Extensions turned off in Safari, etc.  You name it I have done it as far as the GUI goes.  I am certainly no expert in Terminal, but can make my way around for some things.
7.) I create a Standard Account "The one in which I will conduct 99% of my business in." Again I create a strong PW for this account and confirm that the security settings that I setup in Admin match those of my Standard Account.
HERE IS WHERE THINGS GO WRONG...
8.) I go into options and login to icloud.
HERE IS WHERE IT IS ABSOULETLY WRONG...
    911) I login to the apple store as I want to dowlonad some of the simple apps so I can go to work.  IMMEDIATELY, it starts downloading a program called "Mountain" ... please don't confuse this with Mountain Lion (You can see it listed second in the APP Store search "Mountain")... when I look down at my Launchpad bar without hitting anything the 2.1MB file is downoading and then dissapears from my launchpad.
** Also as this is going on "storeagent" with the linux exec box icon next to it shows up saying "storeagent is attempting to install software to your computer"  It does ask the for Admin User and PW, but no matter what I hit this "Mountain APP" downloads.
When I first noticed this I thought this was legit, well it certainly is not.  I have never purchaed that "APP" however it does show up in my APP store Purchaes.  The gateway is obviously not doing it's job and FURTHERMORE I don't have any of the options to "Automatically Download New Apps, etc."  I simply just check for updates manually everyday as it is a 2 second process and Mounain Lion doesnt check automatically until every 7 days.
    Here is a Screen Shot...
Sorry for the long post... Anyway experiencing the same thing?  I can redo my drive over and over again... I have ever purchased a new Mac Book Air a year ago to see if it would happen and the problems eventually started and fairly quickly.  The weird thing also is that I have done wipes and renistalls in all sorts of different locations.
So all this said... how could it not be in the EFI or on the machine some how?
Thanks guys... I hope someone has experienced a similiar experince!!! .... as the Mac Store and Apple Care have been of no help!! ... and with a problem like this I think it is way above a level 2 Mac specialist head

    Hey etresoft,
I need that firewall for VPN Tunnels.  These are not setup yet, but in order to work from home... outside our office, this is a requirement.  Money is not really an issue and I do always back up kids / family photos.  I have two Thunderbolt backups attached to the Monitors.  So the 4TB with Raid 0, was cut down to 2TB and then I have another more movable / durable one that piggybacks off that.
I am considering the new Apple ID, the problem is I have a ton of Apps and a TON of Moview / TV Shows that have been downloaded over the past years.
The movies are easy enough, but it just ****** me off that I won't just be able to have them in the iClould and put on my Apple TV and have it right there with my Apple ID (My 2 year old loves Tom & Jerry )
It might come to the new Apple iD with minimal security, but being a partner in a business that runs the Internet Marketing team... we have very sensitive data that is stored.  That said large email list and many other items that make us money and the ability to run a successful business is important to protect.  Apple has these security mesaures in place for a reason and really the bottom line is I want to get to the bottom of what is causing this.
If you don't believe me, etc... that is fine.  I did start a new forum as you said and I am simply looking for people to throw some feedback my way, if they have any.
When you say thing like "I suspect you aren't telling the Full Story." it is upsetting because I am trying to be as detailed as possible and why would I ever be typing on this forum unless I was just looking for some feedback.
I did start my own forum, but please don't acuse me of not telling the truth or the full story as others were in the last forum.  That was a bad thread to jump in on, as it started out way more extreme than what I am trying to explain.
    Anyway...
I have never posted on this forum until recently... and I promise you I am telling you the full story and I am simply looking for feedback.  This is not fun for me.  I would rather be running the business 100% and not have to worry about this and spend time on forums that eat into my day.
    Thanks.

  • How to disable UAC for standard account in windows 8.1 single language OS

    Hi,
How to Disable UAC in a standard account on windows 8.1 single language OS.
application for mobile modem (TATA DOCOMO) always asks for administrator password, in windows 7 I used to just set UAC never Prompt in admin account and same setting would reflect in standard user account and then users where not prompted for password but in
windows 8.1 single language edition I have disabled UAC in admin account but in standard account the setting for UAC was still in default (notify me when programs try to make changes to my computer), if I try to set never, the ok button is greyed out with
message saying that you must be logged in as administrator.
And Group policy editor, local security policy are not available in windows 8.1 single language.
can any one give command to disable UAC  using CMD.
    OR
set registry to not prompt for admin password.
    Thanks in  advance..........

    Hi Ed,
But in control panel -> user accounts -> Change user account control settings
I can set the settings to always notify
and default notify when programs try to make changes to computer.
But I can't set it to never prompt because only administrator as power to do that and if I set never prompt in  administrator account the settings in standard user remains in
    always notify.
so please let me know, if there is any other way to over come the problem.
Main problem is application from unknown source always prompt for admin password.
I need to disable it from prompting for admin password to run applications in standard accounts.

Ok it was an error due to false permissions for the Applications folder. I solved it launching on the Terminal the following commands:

One thing to try would be Apple's recommended procedure for promoting a "standard" account to "admin" when all "admin" users have been lost while upgrading to 10.5, which can be found in this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306876
If the problem is just that your account has lost "admin" privileges, there is no reason why it shouldn't work even if the loss of status isn't associated with upgrading.

  • Airport network + 1 admin account + 1 standard account on the same Mac

    Hello,
I have not succeeded yet in finding in this forum any answer to my problem but I guess this is a quite familiar one and may be some of you could help.
    My configuration:
    1) one Imac G5 Power PC (OS 10.4.6) + 1 Airport Express base station with firmware 6.3 (mostly to play Itunes on distant loudspeakers and, sometimes, for Ethernet connection).
    2) one domestic Airport network protected with a WAP key.
    3) 1 admin user account + 1 standard user account, both on the same Mac.
    My concern:
    1) When I am connected to to the admin account, my Airport network starts automatically (especially, thanks to the configuration settings "automatically connect to to the last network used" (or smthg like that) => so far, so good.
    2) When I try to connect to the standard account (even when the admin one is already started), I always receive a window for authentification requiring an admin name and password for Airport (com.apple.airport.allow.network.cha): at this time the Airport icon in the menu bar is gray (no signal nor no activity?) and, in the list of the possible networks, my own one is not marked (meaning "not started"). Of course, as soon as I key in the correct data in the authentification window, the AE network starts for the standard account session => this behavior concerns me since the interest of a standard account is to have it running without the support of the admin user.
    3) Last but not least and very strange behavior: when I am at step 2) (connection to the standard account), if I do not fill immediately the authentification form and go back to the admin account, when coming back again to the standard one, the authentification window has disappeared and the AE network is already running => magic but not comfortable in a normal way of doing.
Is this a problem of configuration of the AE network or configuration of the user accounts or a keychain problem? I have investigated in all areas for a while but without success at this time. Hope some of you will be able to help.
    Sincerely
    Christophe

    Hello again,
I have not received yet any answer to my initial post (see above) but, unfortunately, the troubles described keep going. I noticed that, some of you, seem to be very familiar with Airport troubleshooting. May be, some of you will be able to help.
In addition to my initial description here is the content of the authentification window and, especially, the system element which requires an admin password for the standard account. May be it could help for a better understanding of the problem and a better investigation:
    " Authorization : com.apple.airport.allow.network.cha
    Tool : airport (complete path = Imac G5 de myname / System / Library / PrivateFrameworks / Apple80211.framework / Resources / airport "
Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • SL Upgrade - Standard Account Beach Ball Spinning on Right Menu Bar?

Just upgraded to SL from Leopard 10.5.8. Install went smoothly, went through typical verification of software, etc. Most things look good; I know the forums are flooded with folks having a terrible time, but the only buggy thing so far I've noticed is in one of my two standard accounts. My iMac is a family computer and I have 5 user accounts (1 admin, 2 standard (my wife and I), and 2 limited (one for each of my children). For my standard account only I've noticed that when I try and hover over the Time Machine, Bluetooth, Sound Level, or Time information icons on the right hand side of the top menu bar, I get the spinning beach ball no matter how long I hover. This anomaly happens ONLY in my account, not my wife's standard or the limited or admin accounts.
Here are the things I've done so far in hopes of repairing:
    1) Repaired Permissions
    2) Gone into System Preferences and looked at sound, bluetooth, etc. preferences to see whether the option is for checked for appearing in the menu bar. Strange thing is, even though I can see them in the menu bar, the System Preferences option is unchecked. I've checked and unchecked in various combinations and restarted each time - no luck.
    3) Created a new account - no problems.
Does anyone have any advice on sovling this? Is there a preference file I can delete to fix this. Should I simply create a new account and use it? If so, how would I get all my documents and files from the old account associated with the new account? Not to much worried about my standard docs, but really concernced about getting my Aperture 2 library moved over to my new accounts. Is it as simple as dragging the folders from one user account to the other? The above problem I've described is an annoyance, not a show stopper. I don't want to create more problems trying to fix it.
    Thank you.

Okay, that's fine I'll just use the account I just created. However, how do I associate this account with my other files under the corrupt "USER" directory? Can I just copy over the folders from there? If I do that, won't I be bringing the problem(s) from the old account over?
Again, I'm not really worried about my document files, I can always create new folders and bring them over one at a time. The Aperture 2 library is what I'm concerned about. I can ask over on the Aperture forum though.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Unable to login as administrator after creating new standard account

Just got a nice new MBP form work today.
When logged in as the admin I created a new standard account for my personal use. I then shut down the laptop.
After booting up I am presented with a default icon, my standard use name, and a field to enter my password. I can login to this account fine. If I click on the arrow next to the username (this seems pretty poor UX - it annoyingly takes a while to appear, and how is a new user supposed to know what it is for? /vent), and then click on 'other' and enter my admin username and password, it is not accepted and the password field just shakes.
    Am I missing something obvious?
    Many thanks.

    @Frank Caggianoy
Yep, the Display login window is set to List of users. The password that has been set up is the passwsord I've been using for several months at work, so that cannot be the issue.
    @nbar
When I set up the standard user account, there was definately an administrator account in the user list. I also installed some work related applications which are not present when logged in to the standard account.
I've got to say that these forums are very helpful - thanks for the suggestions. I'll speak to the person who set up everything tomorrow, and post back what the problem/solution was.
    Cheers.

  • Standard Account can see into Admin Account!!

I just set up a Standard account to verify a problem and found, what I think is a serious security problem. While in the new Standard Account, when following the path MacintoshHD/Users/AdminAccountName I could see into the Desktop folder and two other folders I had created at the Home level. Documents, Music, Movies, etc all had the red stop mark on them. Logging into the Admin account and following the same path, but to the Standard Account, I could NOT see into the desktop folder - it had the red marker on it. This is the first time I have set up a standard account in a long time but I don't believe that this behavior was evident before. My system is up to date (1.4.5 and the latest security patches v1.1). Thanks, Will

Log into the admin account and select one of the folders you were able to see from the standard account; next, choose Get Info from the File menu and set the permissions on that folder to No Access for Group and Others. Mac OS X will show you the contents of a folder if the UNIX file permissions or access control list on it allow you to do so; this is the default for some parts of your home folder. Changing the permissions as described above will stop any account except for you and root from being able to see the contents of those folders; any administrator account can execute commands as root.

  • Can't create new folder to Applications in standard account

    Hi.
As I have two accounts one admin account and other standard account and last time it didn’t work in both.
So I just restored factory settings like described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3910
    This fixed the problem.
Now again I can't create new folder to applications but this time it doesn’t work only in my standard account but it does work in admin account.
Previously I downloaded this program to open pdb files :http://www.loghound.com/pordible/
But it didn't work for me so I removed it to Trash. That's when I noticed that the new folder icon in applications isn't active but I can't be sure that this caused it.
I used Disc Utility to repair my macbook pro hard disk using Mac OS X Install DVD but it didn't fix the problem.
Is there any way to fix this problem without restoring factory settings again?

I think either way should work OK - it's less of a security risk to use a standard account for "everything", including web browsing, but I confess I don't myself do this. You would again have to authenticate with an admin username/password if you do download and install from the standard account.
Whichever way you do it, this article may be relevant:
*About file quarantine in Mac OS X v10.5 and v10.6*
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3662
    It includes the following:
If you have multiple user accounts on your Mac, the user account that downloaded the file is the only user account that can remove the quarantine attribute to the file. All other user accounts can open the quarantine file, but they will be presented with the quarantine dialog box asking "Are you sure you want to open it?" every time they open the file.

  • Mail app always starts with the standard account.

    iPhone 5s
    iOS 7.1.2
Mail app always starts with the standard account.
Can´t it start in the mail overview, where all different mailboxes are shown.
    iPhone 4 did it..
    Opens in standard account:
Should open in MailBox-Overview: (here just one mailbox)
    7.1.2

After some searching I have found a solution. I had to delete the contents of the following folder:
    ~/Library/Mail/myemailaccount/.OfflineCache/
Note: replace "myemailaccount" with the appropriate folder on your computer that represents your e-mail account. Once I deleted the contents of this folder (there were 2 files), and restarted Mail, there were no problems.
Hope this helps a few people in the future!

  • Standard Account??? Plz Help

After installing Leopard, I now have a standard account. What happened to my administrator account. I cant do anything, I cant even reinstall Leopard because it always asks for a password and administrator name. Please help me.

This worked for me on my G5 (I did not have this problem on my MacBook Pro)
    Start with this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306876.
    Follow #'s 1 & 2...
BUT on #3 (Follow the onscreen instructions to reset the root password (the root account is not the same as your account).
Don't reset the 'root password' reset your 'user' password.
Quit Reset Password, Quit Installer and you will be given the choice of selecting the start up disk-
    Choose your original disk.
    Follow #4
But on #5 - (When the login window appears, select "Other..." and log in as the root user using the password that was created above.) Select your 'user' log in and use the new password you just created!
    6. Go to Accounts in System Preferences and check your 'user' account (enable) "Allow user to administer this computer" for the affected user.
7- From the Apple menu, choose Log Out. (The 'root' part did not appear in my menu.) Log in as the user account that had this issue. (Your account should now have administrator access.)
8- Use Directory Utility to disable the root user via Directory Utility's Edit menu. You may need to click the lock icon first).
    Good luck, Fitz

  • Unix to discover standard accounts and admin accounts

I've been poking around with niutil without success for a unix command (or series of commands) I can issue to remote clients via ARD3 to return:
    1. a list of shortnames of all user accounts on a client machine, and
    2. whether they are admin accounts or standard accounts.
    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't know the specifics of how to do this exactly, but can give you an outline of how I would attack the problem.
    1) NetInfo stores the system's security information in a DB, perhaps you could query it for a list of user accounts?
    2) Any user who has logged in to a given machine will have a user folder. Why not just write a script to give you the contents of the /Users folder?

  • Cloud Studio SDK: How do I replicate Standard Account Filter Functionality in OWL

    Hi All
We have a requirement to replicate this functionality on our custom BO OWL. I have an association to the account and territory already but how can I create a defaultset that will function the same as 'My Account Team's Accounts' or 'My Accounts'.
I thought I could create a reuse function, get current employee login ID from context and use a transformation... however I have the limitation that my reuse function can not pass a CollectionOf to my select query transformation.
I have a feeling I need to use the businesspartnerrelationship BO? has anyone tried this?
I tried to check the standard Account SOWL but I can't find anything helpful...

    Hi Malkit
I am waiting on SAP to fix a problem with my cloud studio transformation.
However I was looking at the Account TI page and noticed these associations on the account team tables:
    Account Team
    ./EmployeeUUID->http://sap.com/xi/AP/FO/BusinessPartner/Global->Root-.CurrentEmployeeResponsible-~EmployeeUUID-~content
    Sales Territory Team
    ./EmployeeUUID->http://sap.com/xi/AP/FO/BusinessPartner/Global->Root-.SalesTerritoryAccount-.ToParent-.Owner-~EmployeeUUID-~content
Maybe these can be used in a transformation in the query. When SAP resolve my problem I will let you know.
    Cheers
