Any guidelines using RSAL_LOG_WRITE to post message in the application log
Hi SDN!
I've programmed a rather complex extractor. As most you will know, the real test is when the extractor goes live in productions;-) So in order to be able to check if everything works as designed - I've customized the extractor in order to post more or less entries in the application logs - This setting can be alterered in the uses system directly.
I've tested the functionality using RSA3 and the application log is filled as expected. The Application log object is RSFH and everything shows up fine. When tring to use it from BW - The application log gets no entries under object RSAP (Where they normally will end up).
I'm using the function module RSAL_LOG_WRITE to add entries to the same log as the macroes LOG_WRITE uses.
Does anybody have any experiance adding entries to the standard application log in the source system when extracting data into BW?
Best Regards

I to don't know that how to install the jar files, actually thats the role of BASIS guys.
Watch the below threads for which jar files we need to deploy and how to deploy the jar files

Issue regarding application log in standard program RPCLMSU0
System Status: SAP ECC6, SP15.
This probem has been observed after we have upgraded from 4.6C.
In the include RPCLMSUF of the Report RPCLMSU0, there is an FM BAL_LOG_MSG_ADD, which adds messages to an application log.
A structure is passed to the FM, of type bal_s_msg.
The first 3 components of the structure are of type:
sy-msgt, sy-msgid and sy-msgno.
These should normally be filled in by values from the FM called just above it: BAL_LOG_CREATE.
But this doesnu2019t happen.
So, SAP has hardcoded values for these 3 as u2018Eu2019 (Message type), HRPAYNA_ALV (Message ID) and u2018998u2019 (Message no).
These are the values that get printed when the program is tested. i.e. the hardcoded text is getting displayed.
Output in the ALV : HRPAYNA_ALV:998 ***********No records found***********
We have checked the documentation for the FMs, and even gone through a few sample programs that SAP has created like SBAL_DEMO_02. The output is perfect here.
Since this is code that SAP has added (Entire form added "SL0K008292) by SAP to its standard code, they must believe that these hardcoded text will still not get printed. Can this error can be corrected by making some configuration changes in the system (SLG1?).
The code of the suroutine where this FM is called is given below:

iv_text2 TYPE any

Pass IDoc Number, Date, Time from EDIDC table to FM-
'APPL_LOG_READ_DB'.
You'll get all log details of that IDoc.
For only Message, check FM - 'IDOC_GET_MESSAGE_ATTRIBUTE'.

ESS standard Application modification
Hello,
We are on ERP 6.0 EHP4.
We have got ESS and MSS implemented. Applications are working fine now.
However user has not yet reverted with any modification on standard one...but still I need to find out on how I can make changes to existing standard applications.
Below are places where it could be done...according to me :
1. Make service specific settings.
Here it is possible to hide fields and show new fields based on existing infotypes. These settings are done in R/3 SPRO Tcode.....
2. Iview Personalization.
Here you can make necessary changes in UI presentation/layout. Making fields disabled or readonly. These are done in portal PCD....
3. FPM modification.
you have to use Self services administrator role here. This is a separate business package which you need to get from SAP.
Please comment on whether my findings are correct ?
Secondly do I need NWDS to modify on any part of existing applications. Can anybody give 1 example where I need to modify WD Java code/view.
Is Self Services Administrator role free from SAP if you have already purchased ESS/MSS Self-Services Package.
I read an article which is below :
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/profile/ESSPersonalInformationUIenhancementwithoutmodification
However I do not feel it is now applicable for our Business package version.
Can anybody throw a light on ...if I am missing out on something......Hi Saurabh
1. Once you install ESS and MSS business package you will get the Self Service Administrator role. We donu2019t need to buy the additional licenses separately for it.
About the modification of FPM application, we can modify the FPM applications/views but it is recommended not to modify the SAP delivered FPM configuration. We need to create a new FPM application.
2. We need NWDS, to enhance the SAP delivered functionality or to fix any of the defects etc. for example I have seen some of the clients asking for the check image on the edit screen of bank application to show what is routing number and account number for the end users, some of the clients they need confirmation, accept terms and conditions etc while creating/updating a bank information etc.
For building the custom applications.
3. NWDI and NWDS are different, they go together. If itu2019s a big project then we would need a dedicated system for NWDI. I believe it would need the license. If you are using NWDS and also ESS & MSS business package then you have to go for NWDI for creating custom apps or for modifying the standard apps.
NWDI: is used for source code repository, version control, build, transports etc for the java code. In simple terms, NWDS is the front end to the NWDI.
4. The url u posted is not obsolete, its very important and still holds good. If we want to enhance the back end i.e. infotype and show the enhanced fields of the infotype on portal then we have to go in that route.
5. I think you have covered all the ways for modification and customization.

Standard applications do not open after upgrading to Lion
Hello everyone,
This is the weirdest situation I have ever seen since I'm a Mac user.
I did the standard Lion-X purchase and install. After it, with no problems, I started again the computer and took a look on the new features: mission control, launchpad, gestures and so on. But when I tried to open the iTunes, I got a screen with the message "The application stopped unexpectedly", with the options to ignore, send the report or trying again. Weird... I tried with the App Store, and I got the same error. Then I realized that most of the standard applications are not working: FaceTime, RAID Utility, Monitor of Activity, Picture Preview...
When I try to open them from the console, I always get the "Illegal instruction: 4" message. But I'm able to open them as an administrator, with heavy restrictions (for example, I can not log in the App Store while opened as an Admin). I tried to install again the iTunes, but I'm getting the same error. This indicates that something terribly wrong happened on the computer, and since I can't neither run App Store nor having a Lion CD, I'm so stucked!
This really seems to be a MAJOR failure during the update to the new OS. Is there any suggestion on how could I fix this? Attached to this message there is the error report obtained from one application (although all the different applications contain the same information)Yes, I follow the Lion instructions. MacPort was already installed before. I do not have any backup, although I can access all my files. Is just that I can not open basic applications that I definitely need. And since App Store is not working, I can't use it to download Lion again!
It seems that this is an issue that some other users have experienced (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3192885?start=15&tstart=0). I have tried the solutions proposed there, but they're no working so far. I definitely wan't to avoid formatting the HD.
I will copy the text of the exception here, so it will be easier to locate through the search engine.

Doubt in creating program to display application logs
Hi,
I have doubt in creating a program to display application logs.
The standard transaction code SLG1 has been used to display Application logs till now by the user.
They came up with the new requirement on this.
<u>The requirements were:</u>
1)New custom program shoud be created like SLG1 with limited selection fields( data from, date to, Program name and User)
2) Detail list should be displyed immediately when this program is executed because SLG1 gives Basic list,Detailed list which is getting displayed when 'Detail view' is selected in the first list.
I have created one program with limited selection fields as per the requirement using the below function modules .
BAL_FILTER_CREATE
BAL_DB_SEARCH
BAL_DB_LOAD
and BAL_DSP_LOG_DISPLAY
<u>Issue :</u> still I am getting the firt list.
both Basic and Detailled lists are getting triggered at the FM BAL_DSP_LOG_DISPLAY.
Is it only the way to copy and modify this FM.
Could you please suggest me?
Thans in advace,
babu.

babu vHello All,
Thanks for your valuable suggitions.
I have seen most of the demo programs.
I found one fm'BAL_DSP_PROFILE_NO_TREE_GET' which avoids the tree list which is getting listed above the profile list.
I have been searching alot to omit the Profile list. I searched alot to find any function modules realted to that.
The requirement was only the Detail list should only be listed.
Could you please suggest me to avopid that profile list also?
Thanks in advance,
babu

Calling error/application logs in CRM inbound proxy
Hi All,
In inbound proxy of CRM, I have to call Error/Application logs (for eg:SLG1) whenever an integration process throws some error. Has anyone worked on this kind of scenario to call different application logs in CRM or R3 side inbound proxy.
If so, please give some ideas on this.
Thanks
DenoHi Deno,
did you have a look at my blog in which I describe it ?

Application logging in weblogic 7.0
Just wanted to put a question out there as to how everyone else is doing application
logging. I want to provide a standardized error level logging capability to my
application developers, and I DO NOT want to use the weblogic logging as it appears
that it only can write to the server log - I worry about apps filling this filespace.
I tried ServletContext logging, and contrary to other implementations, it also
goes to the server log. According to the specs, it should go to a file that matches
up with the context name.
Is log4j the way to go?Thanks for the feedback, anyone else that ones to chime in on log4j shoot.
Were looking now at how to leverage/intergate/avaliablate log4j within WLS.
Cheers

Hi Mark,
I am curious about how log4j didn't work in a cluster, and what about
weblogic's logging was superior to log4j?Well, I didn't exactly say that it didn't work in a cluster ;-) I
implied that it didn't work beautifully in a cluster :-)
These are the advantages that I see to WebLogic's logging:
a) Distributed logging is a no-brainer
b) Integration with WebLogic's own notifications
WL:If you want to log in a cluster, then using WebLogic's logging is
simple and effective - it all works out of the box. You get a nice
domain log and all the underlying distribution is done for you.
Log4J: If you want to log in a cluster using Log4J, then as far as I
know you have to do some work (not much, just some) - which you don't
have to do using WL. AFAIK, to get the same functionality you have to
use SocketAppenders, and then have your administration server (or
whichever server you want to hold the domain log) run a socketnode.
Advantages: You have lots of nifty log4j features, more portable.
Disadvantages: More setup, more administration, no integration with WL
notifications.
To me the greatest advantage is the integration with WebLogic's own
notifications. Logging is not just about debugging info, but also
manageability. I want to see all important information consolidated.
Of course, I can write code to get this - perhaps writinng a
notification listener for WL messages and converting them to Log4J
messages. Hmm, perhaps if WL let me write my own 'appender' instead of
their default 'send a JMX event' I could get nice clean integration.
The nice thing about Log4J is that it's feature set is far richer, and
its more 'portable' if you are willing to do the integration work with
each app server.

Application messages are in the system log instead of the application log
Hi SAP GURUS.
The standard output is created from the outbound delivery .
All the messages are hitting the system log instead of the application log .
This is after the upgrade from 4.6c to ECC 6.0 .
Please provide the details how to move the log to the application log since the output is the standard output (SAP provided output type ).verzunof wrote:
Hello,
My system.log is filled with these messages, they repeat every second.

Jan 21 18:31:47 Maki-Mac kernel[0]: AppleFWOHCI_AsyncTransmit::waitForDMA - context not going inactive.
Do these messages indicate a problem? If so what that could be problem and the solution?
Can this contribute to the sleep/wakeup problem when iMac won't wakeup after being put to sleep manually and not sleeping according to Power Saving settings?
Thanks a lot.

I'm not certain if those messages indicate a power issue but you can try *resetting the System Management Controller* and see if that helps. Here's how: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1806
"The System Management Controller (SMC) is a chip on the logic board that controls all power functions for your computer. If your computer is experiencing any power issue, resetting the SMC may resolve it. The SMC controls several functions, including:
Telling the computer when to turn on, turn off, sleep, wake, idle, and so forth.
Handling system resets from various commands.

RFC function to retrieve application log
Hi,
does anybody know a standard SAP RFC function module to read an application log? So far I haven't been able to find one...
Please note that I'm not looking for any custom RFC wrappers around standard SAP functions or any solutions to read the data directly from the database tables.
Thanks for your help, haraldHi Sidarth and Elini,
thanks for the answers. Sidarth my goal is to find a standard SAP function module. Writing a wrapper is trivial, but is not helpful as a general solution (e.g. when working on multiple systems including some, where you don't have development access).
Elini, I looked at the function module C1CA_READ_APPLICATION_LOG, but it's not what I'm looking for (should've been more specific): It doesn't exist in SAP4.6c (support package level 48) and it's only a wrapper to present a dialog. I need an RFC function module to return an application log, dialog processing is not desired.
Thanks for the feedback. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
Best wishes, harald -
Portion creation - Internal error: application log is not customized (IU15/)
When we try to create a Portion (E41B) we are getting a message "Internal error: application log is not customized (IU15/)" and a Portion can not be created.
Does anyone have idea what may be the reason for such message? How to solve the problem and create a Portion?
In Business Object Repository for SAP Utilities we can see object type "Portion" as well as "Application log IS-U" (ISUIDOCLOG).
Since these are standard object types it seem to us that application log should be written by Event Viewer (the same as System and Security log). Are we missing something out?
P.S. A word about our system:
SAP ERP 6.0 (IDES version) EHP7, OS: Windows server 2012, DB: Oracle (release 11.2.0.3.0) and switch for IS-U is recently activated.
Postal Regional Structure is successfully imported, Political structure defined, Country specific settings customized, Parameter record defined.
Regards,
JulijaProblem solved. Note 400322 was very helpful. We defined object IU15 and a appropriate sub objects, after that Portion was created successfully.

Writing Application Log of SAP PI
Hi All,
I have a requirement to update the Application Log of SAP PI 7.1 with Ehp1 whenever mapping for a particular pair of Sender and Receiver is executed.
SenderA (JMS) -> SAP PI (update Application Log; SLG1) -> ReceiverA (JMS).
I have already seen this blog: /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2006/09/20/xi-abap-mapping-logs--more-standard-better-visibility but it seems to be written long back.
How should this be done in PI?
Thanks
PankajYou can do this with an RFC lookup in message mapping, or with a BPM by calling an abap proxy that post a log in SLG1.

Can I rotate application log in OC4J_Portal_default_island_1?
My application.log file in %oracle_home%\j2ee\oc4j_portal\application-deployments\portal\oc4j_portal_default_island_1 grows quickly. Can I configure it to rotate every day or when it reaches a certain size? If yes, how?
TIA
Edited by: Angrydot on Aug 25, 2008 9:51 PM - what happens if I edit an old post in the new forum?
Edited by: Angrydot on Aug 25, 2008 9:52 PM - nothingTo rotate the OC4J log files under $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs, there are few parameters you can modify that are not documented in Oracle 9.0.4/10.1.2 documentation.
[New JVM parameters]
"stdstream.filesize"
Max file size limit of each archive. Unit is megabyte.
"stdstream.filenumber"
Max number of files that oc4j can keep as archives. The oldest file will be automatically deleted if the limit is exceeded.
[Usage]
ex 1: rotate stdout/stderr when the file size is reached to 2.5M byte.
java -Dstdstream.filesize=2.5 -jar oc4j.jar -out std.out -err std.err
OraHome\opmn\conf\opmn.xml
In order to get these parameters in opmn.xml you need to define it as follows:
<category id="start-parameters">
<data id="java-options" value="-server -Djava.security.policy=$ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/config/java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless =true -Dstdstream.filesize=0.2 -Dstdstream.filenumber=5"/>
<data id="oc4j-options" value="-out std.out -err std.err"/>
</category>
The new log files will be created under:$ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\home\home_default_island_1\
The file naming will be like:
std_2006_02_22_14_01_17.out
std_2006_02_22_14_16_25.out
Important notes:
1. Backup opmn.xml file before any modification.
2. Modify opmn.xml file to specify stdstream.filesize and stdstream.filenumber. See the example above.
3. Test and validate this solution in your test system first before implementing in Production.
