Standard Application Working Folder

Hi,
I have begun writing an Application using the JDK1.3 that runs stand-alone, not as an Applet or anything like that.
I am wondering if there is a function available to me similar to getCodeBase... so that I can determine where my application is running from so that I can store a settings file there.
I appreciate any help that can be given on this and thanks in advance,
Simon

not sure that technique will be adequate. Not 100% but I think that will only give you a clue as to what directory the app was started from, which may not be the directory where the applications files exist...
Im currently working on code to handle this more effectively in a rather small but powerfull application framework Im developing, if youd like more info on the code / just reply Ill post it when its done.

  • File Associations - Application Context is different from Working folder

    Hi,
I have a swing application which has been installed on an XP machine.
    ex:
Application has been installed in folder named 'X' on XP. The application has been associated with an extension '.EXT'
The '.EXT' file should open in my application when I double click on it.
'.EXT' file is kept in the "My Documents" folder. When I double click on the '.EXT' file the application starts but throws an exception and goes out.
Reason tracked to, the Context in which it's running. The application shows "My Documents" as the Working folder, where as it should be folder X from which the application should initiate because this location has some system files that are required in the initiation process of the application.
The shortcut on the desktop for the application has the "Start In" folder option pointing to the folder 'X' on the machine, so it works fine when executed through this shortcut.
Can I change the context of the application at runtime ? If yes How?
    Else
What is the workaround for this problem?
    IMP:
The application has been developed in Swing, with JRE1.4.2_06 as the runtime on MS platform.

Time Machine does omit some things, including the iPod photo cache in iPhoto.
You might also try emptying the iPhoto trash;  I'm not sure if TM backs it up or not.

    Hi Krishna,
While creating a new webdynpro DC, you will get an option to import a local project. You can use this option or just create a new webdynpro DC without importing local project and copy paste the below files and folders from the source webdynpro project to the target webdynpro DC project.
    src
    Model Folder
    .classpath
    .metamodel
    .project
With the first option, I have faced a problem earlier where I had to undeploy the local project to make the DC work.

How can I delete an app from launchpad, that doesn't have the little cross in the left top corner. The app isn't an App Store app. The application is also not present anymore in my application's folder in finder.
I tried to use the attached command through TERMINAL :
    sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';" && killall Dock
sqlite3: Error: too many options: "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';"
Use -help for a list of options.
But i didn't work as I got the above error message.

I'm in the same boat as you -- except that I manage both a school lab (volunteer job) and macs in the enterprise (pay job).  What I think we need is the Education Volume Purchasing Program
    http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/faq.html
Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software.  (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.)  The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance.  I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers.  When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install.  We did!  But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them!

  • One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder...

Upon opening Photoshop CS5 I have the following message displayed on the screen. I have uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop but it did not make a difference., the message keeps showing up. It is getting annoying and I have no idea which files are missing. Anyone know how to fix this? I am copying the message here:
One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder, necessary for running Photoshop, are missing.  Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop.

It's not a systemic problem, no.  Photoshop CS5 can certainly run without an error message.
Was it working without the error message on your system at one time?
Have you made any changes to the files supplied as part of Photoshop?
An uninstall (possibly via the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool) followed by a reinstall will probably get you working again.

  • Adobe Photoshop CC missing files in application support folder

Photoshop CC was installed and working perfectly. In order to free up hard drive space, I uninstalled Photoshop CS4.
Now every time I open Photoshop CC (or Photoshop CS 5.1) a warning message appears saying: One or more files in the Adobe application Support folder necessary to run Photoshop are missing. Reinstall Photoshop.
Dispite the warning, I click OK and Photoshop CC opens and runs fine.
I do not want to reinstall any old versions of Photoshop. So how do I get rid of the warning message?
    Thanks,
    Peter

    re-install ps cs 5.1.

  • Where is the "Application Support Folder"?

OK, apparently, I did something stupid.
I had both Master Collection CS4 and CS5 on my MacBook Pro. I decided to uninstall CS4. I did some research and did it the way I think I was supposed to. First, I deactivated it. Then I used the CS4 Uninstaller. So far so good.
But, when I boot us CS5, I get the following message:
"One or more files in the Adobe Applicatoin Support folder, necessary for running Photoshop, are missing. Please run the Photoshop installer and re-install Photoshop."
Here's where the stupid part comes in. I am on the road and, naturally, do not have the disks to reinstall my Master Collection.
However, here's the less stupid part. I do have a complete clone of the drive BEFORE I did the uninstall.
So, where can I find the Application Support Folder and can I just drag it over?
    Thanks.
    sjh
PS. I'll be on the road for a month and really need this to work.

Anyone wishing to uninstall a previous version of Photoshop should do so BEFORE installing a newer version.  Always.
That being said, I advice against uninstalling previous versions.
See posts #23 and #24 in this other thread:

Sorry I don't have specific remedial advice that meets your not-altogether-reasonable requirements (I cannot do a new clean install because I do not have my new disc's [sic])  in your situation.

    Hi,
As per your error, I think you have already created a project with name NewParProject. Give a different name and then check.
Also check if your par file is  not corrupt. Download it again and follow below steps in NWDS :
Go to File>Import > Select par file >
    >Browse and select the par file>
    >Give a project name i.e. ParProjectTest  > Finish.
    This should work.

  • Address book disappear, Application Support folder can not be opened

My address book disappear from my MacPro, I know it is in the User Library-Application Support folder, but when I try to open that folder, it has a red tag on the folder and it said I have no Authority to open that folder, I am the only one using this machine, never have this problem.  And it will not allow me to restore the address book from Time Machine back to this folder.  What's wrong? I think I need to figure out why it wont let me open the Application Support folder, could anyone help? thanks.
One Symptom:  when I run the address book App, and try to import  address file, the Menu bar- File-the Import dialog was greyed-out and can not be used.

Could you please check the Sharing &permissions of these two folders (command +I). Check to see if you have "Read&Write access to these folders. It should be your user name with read&write privileges.
You will have to open the lock on the bottom right and it will request the admin password. Should your name not be there, select it by clicking on the plus sign on the bottom right and selecting your user name. Select Read&Write privilege and under the gear wheel beside the plus and minus signs,Make sure you apply to enclosed items.
It sounds like you somehow got them buggered. Rebuilding the permission table should of cleared up the problem. This could be a case of booting with your install DVD and rebuilding permissions from there.
                                                            Food for thought.
Next time you even think of modifying anything in you user library, Duplicate the whole folder and then you have a reference to go by. Just make sure that it is deleted after you are finished. This should be a standard step when troubleshooting. Changing something.....make a copy.

  • Working folder & template questions (Mac and Win)

I'm using Captivate for Mac (both 5.5 and 6). In the recording preferences (Project Info) there is a field for "Working folder" for FMR in Captivate 5.5 or Video Demo in Captivate 6.
For new blank projects, it appears that the Working folder is automatically generated to have a path name:
    /private/var/folders/.....
Question #1: Where is this location on a Mac? (I can't find it.)
Question #2: Is this location different from the "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder in my Documents folder on a Mac?
On a related topic, a client has provided me with a template that currently has this path for the Working folder:
    C:\Users\JaneSmith\AppData\Local\Temp\CP344026233798Session\ForFMR344026233908
Obviously, this path is valid only on Jane Smith's Win PC and is useless for any other Captivate user, whether on Windows or Mac. In fact, when I modify certain default preferences for this template, I get an error message: "The specified working folder could not be created. Please enter a valid location to continue." So I have to change it to a local Mac path.
Question #3: Which location do I use for the Working folder? Do I use the "/private/var/folders/" location (wherever that is). Do I create any old folder? Or do I use the "Adobe Captivate Cached Projects" folder?
Question #4: I need to share this modified template with several Captivate users working on this project (could be using either Mac or Windows). If a template contains a working folder specific to my computer, must every user re-modify the template and re-set the working folder location for his/her specific computer?
Question #5: If I'm not mistaken, temp/working folders for similar software are usually set at the application level, not the project/document level. Is there a good reason why that convention isn't followed in Captivate?

    Hi,

for windows it should be"My Documents" and for Mac it should be "Pictures"
however OS folders names depend on OS current language (English, French, Spanish etc..)
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the English version of those folders will find the correct folders in the localised versions.

  • ESS standard Application modification

    Hello,
We are on ERP 6.0 EHP4.
We have got ESS and MSS implemented. Applications are working fine now.
However user has not yet reverted with any modification on standard one...but still I need to find out on how I can make changes to existing standard applications.
Below are places where it could be done...according to me :
    1. Make service specific settings.
Here it is possible to hide fields and show new fields based on existing infotypes. These settings are done in R/3 SPRO Tcode.....
    2. Iview Personalization.
Here you can make necessary changes in UI presentation/layout. Making fields disabled or readonly. These are done in portal PCD....
    3. FPM modification.
you have to use Self services administrator role here. This is a separate business package which you need to get from SAP.
Please comment on whether my findings are correct ?
Secondly do I need NWDS to modify on any part of existing applications. Can anybody give 1 example where I need to modify WD Java code/view.
Is Self Services Administrator role free from SAP if you have already purchased ESS/MSS Self-Services Package.
I read an article which is below :
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/profile/ESSPersonalInformationUIenhancementwithoutmodification
However I do not feel it is now applicable for our Business package version.
Can anybody throw a light on ...if I am missing out on something......

    Hi Saurabh
    1.     Once you install ESS and MSS business package you will get the Self Service Administrator role. We donu2019t need to buy the additional licenses separately for it.
About the modification of FPM application, we can modify the FPM applications/views but it is recommended not to modify the SAP delivered FPM configuration. We need to create a new FPM application.
    2.     We need NWDS, to enhance the SAP delivered functionality or to fix any of the defects etc. for example I have seen some of the clients asking for the check image on the  edit screen of bank application to show what is routing number and account number for the end users, some of the clients they need confirmation, accept terms and conditions etc while creating/updating a bank information etc.
    For building the custom applications.
    3.     NWDI and NWDS are different, they go together. If itu2019s a big project then we would need a dedicated system for NWDI. I believe it would need the license. If you are using NWDS and also ESS & MSS business package then you have to go for NWDI for creating custom apps or for modifying the standard apps.
NWDI: is used for source code repository, version control, build, transports etc for the java code. In simple terms, NWDS is the front end to the NWDI.
    4.     The url u posted is not obsolete, its very important and still holds good. If we want to enhance the back end i.e. infotype and show the enhanced fields of the infotype on portal then we have to go in that route.
    5. I think you have covered all the ways for modification and customization.

  • My mac mini hard drive crashed. I replaced it but now not all applications work. How do I fix this?

When my mac mini (late 2009) hard drive crashed I installed a new one. During the process I used migration assistant to bring in my time machine backup. When finished I did not have all applications...iPhoto, CC Cleaner, Chrome, and most importantly Reunion all failed to load. I have since manuay fixed Chrome and CC Cleaner but still do not have Renion or the OSX iPhoto and other apple OSX applications working. Can someone help or driect me to the right forum?

Restore failed to provide all the applications and data. Took the mini to Apple genius today. They reinstalled OSX (same as I had done) then confirmed that the applications were not backed up to time machine...they will be in the future. After reloading each individual application they now work as expected and all the data seems to have been restored. Except the Reunion files which were near and dear. These are gone forever. Somehow, perhaps through my negligence, the 'GED' files were not stored in a "Reunion" folder and were not backed up...much like the apps. Now I'm trying to recover the files from the crashed drive.

  • Do I need to worry about Adobe Application Support Folder?

Running Photoshop CS5 standard on Mac (snow leopard) on top of Photoshop CS4.  Ran into some problems with Adobe Bridge and thinking there might be a conflict between the two Photoshop versions I uninstalled Photoshop CS4 (apparently not smart).  Now on launching Photoshop CS5 a window appears with warning something like: missing files in Adobe Application Support Folder, use Photoshop installer to re-install PhotoshopCS5. Tech support tells me to deactivate Photoshop CS5 then uninstall it and reinstall from the Web where I downloaded it in the first place.
Questions:  Should I care about this at all?  How about reinstalling Photoshop CS4 (I have the disc)?  Can I just download the Adobe Application Support Folder?
I undated CS5 just now but it didn't fix the "problem".

That is very sound advice.  Do it.
    luchiangelo wrote:

Yes, unless you don't want to run any Adobe applications any more.
    luchiangelo wrote:

It probably won't even let you install CS4 over CS5.  You would have to uninstall CS5 first.
    luchiangelo wrote:

Nope; there's nowhere you could "download it" from.
Just follow the advice of Tech Support.
