Standard audio CD stuck and not recognized inside of Mac Mini

I put a standard CD into the Mac Mini and now it does not show up on the desktop or iTunes or is acknowledged in any way. So, I cannot eject it. Just before this I tried to insert another CD and it would not take it in at all. The CD that is now stuck inside the Mac Mini worked just fine on the same computer earlier in the day.
I have restarted, shut down and restarted, all to no avail. I cannot tell if the CD spins up at startup or not. I've tried a few different backdoor ways to eject media, but since the computer not even recognizing it has a CD inside there is, in theory, nothing to eject.
This is the current gen Mac Mini. I've been ripping a lot of CDs lately and this computer is a dedicated music server.
Thanks for any help.

Hello Andrew,
I have posted the following in the MacBook Pro section, and I've received some replies from users that it worked for them:
If the disk is not readable at this point, then it sounds like the disk is probably stuck against the bezel of your computer (like it missed the slot that it's supposed to slide out of).
If you are not into taking risks, then get it serviced now. Removing a stuck disk should be covered under warranty (as well as checking the alignment of the drive).
Otherwise, if you are adventurous, then keep reading.
If the disk does not eject when you start up holding down the mouse button during startup, then it may be physically stuck.
One example could be if the drive and the slot in the computer's case are slightly out of alignment.
In that situation, the drive would have partially ejected the CD, and therefore it would no-longer be readable. So, the computer will not acknowledge that there is still a disk in the drive.
But, if the disk is jammed against the edge of the case, then it may not be able to eject fully.
There are methods to try and un-stick a CD that is stuck because of an alignment problem. But, neither is really 100% safe to try.
1) You could try and slide something extremely thin between the CD and the drive's slit on the case to help guide it out. But, you risk damaging something if you don't do it just right. You could also make it worse.
2) You could take a credit-card or another CD and try to re-seat the disk fully in the drive. The idea here is that if it is partially ejected, then this might help to fully seat the CD back into the regular location that it sits in when being read. This might enable the computer to read the CD again, and possibly eject it once it acknowledges that the CD is present. But, again this method could potentially cause further damage.
My concern with the second option, is that you might miss the CD and push on something else. Likewise, if you exert too much pressure, you could force the disk into something further inside the drive. And, another concern is that if the drive does grab the CD and try to spin it before you release pressure, then you could cause another problem.
Basically, these are only thrown out there for the truly adventurous. If that isn't you, then don't do anything outside of software controls and keyboard / mouse controls to eject the disk.
The risk of trying one of the physical methods is that you might void a warranty that would otherwise have replaced the drive for you.
Anyway, I hope my thoughts and ideas are helpful. Let me know if anything works for you.

  • 2 problems, iPod nano battery depleted and not recognized by Windows, help!

Earlier this morning. At first when I connected the usb to the computer I got the screen in the nano that said "apple.com/ipod/support" or something like that, with the folder/exclamation mark icon. It was charging but I disconnected it cause I had to go. I tried to do the same at night but this time is when it's totally dead, and not recognized at all. What can I do now?
I havent used the nano in a while and the battery is depleted, so I tried to charge it but neither windows or itunes or the updater/restore recognize it.

  • IPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes

iPad 3rd gen no longer charges unless shut off and not recognized by iTunes.  Done 2 resets, used original charger and cable and bought brand new charger and cable from Apple store.  Nothing works.  This started yapping after the iOS 7.1.1 update.

Common troubleshooting is to try a different USB port and to give your ipad a reset. (hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot)
You can also try on a different computer to see if it's the ipad or the computer.
When you charge, do you try to charge plugged into the wall? that's the best way to charge.
If you go through all that and it's still not working hten it may be time to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out

  • Is there an update to iOS 6? I've been having several technical issues since the upgrade. Uncontrolled zoom of the entire screen, Siri taking 25 seconds to respond and not recognizing names, locking up of the phone. All requiring a reset.

I would restore with backup and if that doesn't fix it try as new

  • Ipod not recognized by any MAC computer

I have a 20gb IPOD 2nd generation which has worked fine until recent itunes and tiger software upgrade. Now Finder nor utilities (ipod updater) nor itunes will recognize the ipod when connected with firewire-- even in disc mode. Ipod is not recognized by any MAC computer (several tried in Apple store). I ran diagnostics and everything checks out on the ipod. Please help.

When I got a different charger later that night, my Ipod was charging but a message popped up saying "USB device not recognized".

It sounds unlikely of course. But from your question it's hard to tell what might have filled your HDD. Are you constantly on file sharing or has filled the drive with movies?
Best way to tell is to start checking what folders occupy space. "Get Info" for the HDD and its subfolders is a way to start checking where the data in question resides.
And as BGreg say, call Apple support is also a good way to begin with.

    Hey iWeb plubishing problems,
I would first check to make sure that you meet the system requirements for OS X to support Documents in the Cloud. For that your Mac’s needs to be running at least OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later to make sure that everything syncs. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • I am confused about Icloud. I have a 5 year old Macbook, a 2 year old macbook and a 5 year old mac mini. What exactly do I need to do to get all this connected via Icloud. I also have an Iphone 3G. Help please!

I am confused about Icloud. I have a 5 year old Macbook, a 2 year old macbook and a 5 year old mac mini. What exactly do I need to do to get all this connected via Icloud. I also have an Iphone 3G. Help please! Also, I still don't understand exactly what the benefits are. At the moment it seems a lot of hassle to change a system that's been working perfectly well and that I'm very happy with. I'm not at all sure whether the mac mini (1.66 GHz INtel Core Duo) can be brought up to the relevant spec to run ICloud.  Any thoughts?

There are two aspects to iCloud.  One is simply getting an account, or migrating a mobileme account to iCloud.  The second part is using the various features of iCloud to sync contacts, calendars, use music match or photo sharing, and store iWorks documents.
First to get an iCloud account:
If you have a mobileme account, you can migrate by simply logging onto www.icloud.com (ignore any references to Lion and just click through to complete the migration).  If you have OS X Lion or an iOS 5 mobile device, you can create an iCloud account on that device using any valid AppleID.
Once you have an account, you can use JUST the mail account if you wishi - it is a standard IMAP account so you would set it up like any other IMAP email account you have, in whatever client program you use to read email.
To use the OTHER feautes of iCloud, your computers will have to be running OS X Lion (10.7).  Your iPhone 3G will never be able to use iCloud as it cannot run iOS 5 (you need a min. of an iPhone 3GS to run iOS 5).
The requirements for OS X Lion are here - http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html  You need a min. of a Core 2 duo processor so you mini is not capable of running Lion.
So, in your case, the single reasons for iCloud would be if you have a mobileme account, then use the online www.icloud.com to migrate your account so you do not lose your @me.com email address.  You can use iCloud email (without using any other iCloud features) by setting it up as IMAP mail with these settings - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864
If you want an iCloud account and do NOT already have a mobileme account, you will need to upgrade one machine at least to Lion in order to be able to create an iCloud account.
