Standard beauty treatment...

There have been some questions posted about techniques similar to the "healing brush" in PhotoShop to remove imperfections/fine details/wrinkles/etc... in moving video footage.
One such technique from a pre-digital video age is the application of diffusion. This involves blurring a higher contrast copy of a clip and "screening" it back over the original image. This has the effect of smoothing fine detail, adding a soft "romantic" glow, while not losing the larger details of an image. There are plugins available to help you with this, but just using basic tools available to you in Final Cut Pro, you can get very good results.
Subtle diffusion (or not-so-subtle) coupled with good color correction can go a long way toward making up for less-than-ideal footage. Taking this as our input image:
I placed it on both V1 and V2. On V2, I did basic color correction using the Three Way Color Corrector to warm it up, lift the mid range, and increase its saturation. I did the same thing to the V2 version, but increased the contrast, and added a Gaussian Blur filter. I then set V2's composite mode to Screen. You'll probably have to play with the color correction, level of blurring, and opacity to get the result you desire.
And here's the final result:
I think you'll agree it's a nice improvement and easily achievable using the standard tools available in FCP. Here's my project so you can play with it yourself...
Patrick

my attempt... this one looks a bit more pro-mist like. I upped the contrast less on the v2 track, but set it at a higher opacity. Also, I added a subtle sharpen filter on the v1 track in an attempt to preserve detail in the eyes, etc.
this is fun!

  • IPod Touch Graphics Weirdness - Status Bar mirrored at bottom of screen!!!

Okay, this is VERY weird and I have no idea what's going on - This morning when I woke up, I grabbed my trusty iPod Touch (4th Gen, 32GB with iOS 5) to check my calendar and noticed that the Status Bar (if I'm calling it the right thing - the white bar at the very top of the screen that shows the time, battery charge, WiFi signal, etc) was not only at the top - but also at the BOTTOM of the screen too!
The mirrored Status Bar has the correct time and battery life as the top and the time updates just as it should. I can also see the lock icon when I first turn it on. However, to the extreme left the bottom bar is sort of "washed out" and is so white that I can't make out the word "iPod" that shows on the top bar. In fact, it's also sort of translucent as I can see the dock, icon name and part of my wallpaper behind/thru it! I also just realized something else weird - if I pull down the Notifications panel, I can see the notification panel sort of "scrolling" thru the bottom Status Bar!!! I hope I'm explaining this well enough - but it's like..I dunno, like the ideo memory for the top of the screen is being mirrored over the bottom of the screen too - I can see what should be there as well, it;s like it's overlayed or something. The Notification panel is especially weird since it totally obsured the top status bar as it's being pulled down - and this is exactly what the bottom status bar area shows me - what's in the section in the top bar is prescisely what is showing in the bottom bar section!!!!
It stays displayed along the bottom no matter what app I'm in, even a full screen video, game, lock screen, etc; nor does it disappear when rotating to landscape mode - it still stays in the exact same place (tho in landscape it's now on the right side as it were). I have soft reset, synched, etc but it wil not go away. As I said, I deleted all recently installed packages, but I didn't install anything the night before (remember I just found it this way this morning) - i.e. I wasn't doing anything weird or experimental or anything remotely like that with my beloved little iPod (never JailBroken it or any of that stuff - am happy as it is and never been tempted to do anything like that to it). I also have never used any of the AV Out cables or whatever they are called that allow you to mirror an iPod screen on a TV or monitor or whatever - never used anything but the sync cable (now at my sisters), my Belkin charge auto charge cable, and that's it (I'm mentioning all this since I see other people asking this sort of thing for other problems when I was trying to find anyone else experiencing/ed this issue).
I have not tried a factory restore yet, and wanted to post here before I go that route to see if this is maybe something Apple has seen before and can offer a quick and easy fix. Otherwise I'm guessing a hard/factory reset is the only way to go - I'm a bit worried about this since (of course) my sync cable is no longer here - gave it to my sister the last time she was in town and have just been using my charge cable (no sync capabilities, just power) since I don't really need it with iOS5's wonderful WiFi Sync. I do use iCloud - but if I hard reset/factory reset, will iCloud restore the synching info so I can sync all my apps and music & videos back via iTunes from my Laptop, or will I need to buy another sync cable? IF factory reset is the only way, please let me know (anyone that knows!) what I'm in for in regards to restoring from iCloud if anyone here is experienced with that. I know my non-iTunes music and videos are not backed up in the Cloud, but as long as it restores the ability to sync wirelessly with iTunes on my Laptop that's fine. Asuming, of course, that a factory reset will even fix this Status Bar oddity - I'm really afraid it means my little iPod's internal board is going fry-happy or something awful like that. :-(
I tried taking some screen snapshots (home + power off) to post, however the camera roll just displays a standard beautiful looking screen, no double bar - not sure what that indicates. However after some fiddling and emailng to myself,  I do have a couple pics posted below. I apologize for the lack of quality - I took them - and don't laugh - with my Android Phone (yes, I have every intention of upgrading to an iPhone 4S as soon as I can - having a bit of enforced financial conservatism going on at the present unfortunately - which is one of the main reasons I'm so worried my beloved iPod Touch 4 is having issues as it's either very close to warranty expriration and can't afford another right now, and really don't want to have to rely on my Android Phone for everything I do on my iPod Touch - there truly is no comparison!).
If anyone has any ideas or has seen something similar please let me know! I did search the Apple forums prior to posting this, and even googled the web but could find nothing like this ever happening to anyone else. I absolutely love my iPod Touch and would be uterly lost without it, so I'm hoping with all my might that this isn't some sign of a bad board or something in my beloved little beautiful iPod Touch!
Thanks in advance for any assistance, suggestions, etc!!!

Message was edited by: NewtonDKC (embarrassing spelling errors corrected and a couple additional discoveries added!) :-)

I understand the various methods - I was just worried because I've never restored via iCloud - from the limited experience I've had thus far, I'm impressed! But of course if Apple does it, it's going to be the best experience possible! :-)
And as you may have guessed from my now having iCloud restore experience, it is due to me going ahead and trying a reset to factory settings/wiping it clean. And unfortunately - the bottom bar is STILL THERE! <much argghhing! and %^$#@*&^%$'ing loudly>
I did try wiping it a couple of times, but no joy. At this point, I'm guessing this means there's something majorly wrong with the graphics subsystem and/or main board? It's not a screen issue as it's working fine - in fact it's working double-time displaying two things at once - dimensional transcendentalists take note! <grin>
So unless anyone else has some fantastically bright ideas, I'm guessing this means I need to call Apple next? I'm guessing one of these pages has the appropriate contact info - I'm just not at all looking forward to being without my favorite gadget in the history of gadgetdom (and as you can tell from my username, I've been a fan of Apple Gadgets for quite awhile now!).
Anyone know if Apple offers any advanced replacement options? Or if there's anyway to tell if my Touch is stil under warranty? I can't remember the exact purchase date but probably coming up very soon - have they been out a year? Sorry if thee questions are silly, as I said, I'm a newbie to Apple Support - first Apple product I've ever owned that broke!
Thanks for any info for anyone coming in late to the fun, and/or for any tips on who/what to call and ask about.
    Wish me luck! :-0

  • Is it possible to use tabs to right align text in Muse, as you can in InDesign?

Can I use tabs to right align text in Muse, as you can in InDesign?
I have a beauty treatment followed by a price and I want to right align the price, keeping the treatment on the left of the text box.
    Thank you!

For what would typically be a two column tab stop layout, I'd generally use inline text frames and the Wrap panel.
Put the price in it's own text frame. Then cut and paste the text frame BEFORE the item name so it's an inline text frame within the text frame containing the descriptions.Using the Wrap panel set it to float to the right. Then select it and set the right offset so it floats outside the right side of the original text frame.
    Start with this.
Cut and paste the text frame at the start of the item paragraph.
Choose the third icon in the Wrap panel to cause the item to float to the right of the text frame.
Turn off the lock for the 4 wrap offset values.
Adjust the right offset to a negative value so the item is outside the text frame to the right (to wherever you want it).
Repeat the same steps above for the other items.
Note that once it's set up this way you can freely edit the descriptions or change the width of the original text frame and the prices will adjust accordingly. This will also result in things lining up in the browser even if the text layout engine of a specific browser line breaks the text differently.
This approach is tedious, but the end result will continue to line up as you make changes in Design view and will line up in every browser/OS/device.
Someday Muse will support tables, which would be the more natural way to achieve this style of layout on the web. Until then, inline items with wrap is usually the best approach for this type of two column layout.

  • Dreamweaver CSS Template Issue

    Hi all,
Having a slight problem with creating CSS from a template in Dreamweaver. I have made templates before and created editable regions and usually can add CSS to the page. Though for some reason it's not accepting any CSS. I'll created the rule and hit ok and then it just disappears - though the CSS of the .dwt remains - as it should do.
If anyone could cast any light on this, would be greatly appreciated. Please see attached code for the dwt below:

Your <style> tags are not within an editable Template region. You might want to move your CSS rules to an external stylesheet then link your Template to the external.css file.  It's a more efficient way of managing your site.

  • Selection Color of JSlider

I am making a GUI for a little software game.
But i have a problem with my slider. I want to change the selection color from the tumb from the standard "beautiful" purple to another color.
    I've tried following settings , with UIManager.put("Slider.background",new ColorUIResource(Library.SETCOLOR)):
    Slider.background
    Slider.focus
    Slider.foreground
    Slider.highlight
    Slider.horizontalThumbIcon
    Slider.majorTickLength
    Slider.shadow
    Slider.trackWidth
    Slider.verticalThumbIcon
    SliderUI
    Slider.border
    Slider.focusInsets
    None of these settings worked.
I also tried all the settings listed on the following URL :
    http://forums.e-plus.com.au/thread.jsp?forum=3&thread=93
    But they did'nt work either.
    Please help me out??

Look in the documentation in the styles section.

  • Water damage and then....

So my iphone took a swim. Now out of warranty. Apple will replace it for $230 (64gb iphone 5) but they want to keep the broken one. but I want to pull pics off of it. I went ahead replaced the battery and it started working and performed the standard water treatment. I figured I was getting a new one anyway so I plugged it into my pc, started transferring pictures, and halfway through the file transfer my iphone appeared to have started rebooting. I had the black background with the white Apple logo and it just stayed there. Since it did not boot up properly I decided to unplug it from the laptop and let the battery die. but now it wont' boot up at all. What do you think? My co-worker seems to think this is normal when replacing the battery as it won't even go into standby mode while charging until it's at 100%. He seems to think it needs the full 8 hours or more of charging. What do you think?

That is not normal, after charging for 30 minutes the phone should boot up. Charge it for that long and do a reset while it is connected to the charger.
Just so you will know before going to the Apple Store, since you have opened the iPhone you are no longer eligible for an out-of-warranty replacement so you will have to purchase one at full price.

  • How do i download adobe acrobat standard

I have a serial number I have obtained 12-2013. I have formatted by computer and want to reinstall the Adobe Acrobat Standard. Where can I download it from?

It is a top-level link, but the link has been purposely hidden off the bottom of every page on their site unless you scroll down.  It was certainly a conscious choice to do that.  It would be interesting to hear the rationale.
One way to look at it would be:  if things were easier to find on the website (weren't purposely hidden for beauty's sake) there would be less calls to support and if there were less calls to support there wouldn't need to be an embargo on Phone and Chat support for everything except basic installation and question related to Creative Cloud, and everything else directed to the forums.

  • Advantages of Using Queued Message Handler vs. Standard State Machine

    Hello,
What are the advantages of using a Queued Message Handler?  Also, why are they more powerful than using Standard State Machines?
    Thanks!

They are really just sort of an extension of a state machine.  The general idea is that you have one loop doing a specific job.  You then use a queue to tell it how/when to do this job.  For instance, I might have a log file loop.  I will send it commands to open a file, write some data, write some more data, and finally close the file.  Each of those commands are coming from the queue.  The beauty with this setup is that anybody that can get a reference to that queue can send the command to that loop.
So the QMH is "better" than a state machine mostly because of the decoupling of functions.  In a given application, I will have a loop for log file writing, GUI updates, reading of a DAQ, instrumenet communications, server communications, etc.  Trying to do all of that in a single loop state machine is a major pain in the rear end.  Seperating them out makes life so much easier.

  • Adobe Acrobat standard X

    Hello everyone,
Every time I select 40 different word 2010 documents or more I keep getting the folloing message.
    " too many files selected"
Windows command line exceeded by XXX characters.
I am currently using Standard X.
    Office 2010 32bit
This issue happens in windows XP and Windows 7 64 bit.
I would really appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi Caz - I had the same "can't delete or change" hyperlink problem. Fortunately for me is that I discovered the answer at the beginning of my project (I think you have some major complaining to do to Adobe about your situation).
Anyway, when first creating hyperlinks, you *MUST* be very very careful.
The "shared hyperline destination" checkbox MUST be checked. If it isn't, you are screwed.
To edit or delete those hyperlinks, you MUST have the Hyperlink dialog box open. If you can't find it, go to your main file menu, select WINDOW > Interactive > Hyperlinks.
That window will show hundreds of your listed hyperlinks.
In your text, click in the hyperlink you want to edit or delete. The resulting hyperlink "name" will be highlighted in the Hyperlink dialog box. From there, you can edit or delete.
Now, you might have to completely re-work your document (oy!), but at least, you will not make the same mistake again (oy! oy!).
InDesign has a bug that I just reported - although you can seemingly link to a file, it saves the information using escape characters in the filename path, which makes opening the file (at least on a PC) impossible. I have to edit every single pathname in Acrobat! Adobe better get back to me QUICK on this bug report because it is major, major, major!
We purchased InDesign to create beautiful linked PDF files - we could have just worked in Microsoft Word, but noooooo, we decided that InDesign offered so many wonderful features it was worth the investment. Who'd a thought they would have screwed up on the whole hyperlink thing. The programmers should have been shot for not making the "shared hyperlink destination" required and hidden from view.

  • Moving my non standard library

    Dear friends,
I hope you'll be patient enough to bear with my question.
My music files are all stored on my iMac internal disk in a /Users/Bob/Music/rja directory with its own internal artist/album/tracks structure.
In my iTunes Preferences->Advanced, my music library is set to /Users/Bob/Music/rja2014 and NEITHER keep itunes organized nor copy files to iTunes media folder are checked.
Everything works beautifully, my metadata is now in good shape, artwork etc.
I am now in the need of moving this music to my external firewire storage and I am not sure how to go about it because of this non standard setup.
Any guidance would be receive with gratitude !
OS is Mavericks and iTunes is 11.1.5 (5)
    Thank you in advance.
    Robert

Because you manually manage music it won't be easy.  If you let iTunes manage your media then you could use iTunes' consolidate feature to move your files to a different drive and have it keep track of them.  If you were moving them to the same drive and manually manage then iTunes will keep track of them.  Moving them to a different drive means all your links will break and thrre's no way to stop it really.  "Moving" to a different drive is really copying and deleting.
Two options.  One is to copy them to a different drive, then re-add them to a new iTunes library.  Yes, yes, I hear you fuss, but for some who only have smart playlists and don't care about date added and ratings it works perfectly fine.  The smart playlists repopulate everything automatically and as long as you use tagged media most of the metadata travels with the files.
Another is to move the files, then use a text editor to search and replace the location information for all the tracks in the .xml version of the library file.  Use the .xml version to generate a new previous library with the changed information.  You will still lose some information because the .xml does not 100% duplicate information stored in the .itl file and only iTunes can open that.  If there is absolutely mission-critical information, using Applescripts you can try storing it in some non-standard location such as the comment field, then try to re-create things.  E.g. Make a playlist with all your 5-star ratings files, copy the playlist over to the new library, then use that playlist as a basis for assigning 5 stars to all the items in playlist in the new library.

  • How to Replicate Standard Alternating Colors using XSL-FO??

    Hi All
I am using Apex_3.1, Apache fop and Standard Report Printing to produce PDF reports. We would like to replicate the theme 12 (Blue) standard alternating colors in our PDF output.
I do realise that this involves modifying the xsl-fo and have tried putting color attributes in the xsl-fo (Generic Columns). I know I can just put the color in the apex print settings but that doesn't give me the alternating colors.

I believe this is the section of the xsl template that needs modified.
                       <fo:table-body>

                            </xsl:for-each>
</fo:table-body>and I have found this example which appears to do what I require.

  • Raw Color Treatment

    Hello everyone,
I've recently notice a real bad problem with color saturation in Aperture, or in the OS X 10.8.2 in general when it comes to raw files. But in Aperture, I can notice that "something" happens that destroys the picture.
Here is a movie to show exactly what I mean. I take a raw file, import it into Aperture, and for a few moments you can see the picture as it really is, before the god of ugly saturation jumps in and messes up everything:
    http://cl.ly/1u2c36302d0K
So, does anyone know how to fix that? The colors as I see them in real life are like the ones that show up BEFORE whatever is happening happens.
    Any help is appreciated, ty.
    OS X: 10.8.2
    Aperture: 3.4.2
    Digital Camera Raw: 4.01
Pictures taken with a Canon 20d

Hi Kirby, thanks for your reply. Answering your points directly:
    - what are your RAW Fine Tuning settings?  Are they the default for your camera?
Apple Camera Default. I never changed this, and this file has not yet received any processing.
    - make sure you are not soft-proofing
    Check that, nope.
    - are you adding any adjustments at import?
    Nope, no adjustments at all.
    - are you using any in-camera processing?
It is a RAW file, shot at RAW only, no +JPG, and no, no in-camera processing.
    - what happens if you change "Aperture➞Preferences➞Import➞Post-Import processing" to "Standard"?
"Camera" - Using View -> Browser, the thumbnails are good until I double click so it loads the "Aperture Preview"
"Standarnd" - Using View -> Browser, the thumbnails are good for a split second and then automatically loads the "Aperture Preview" image
In the end, both produce the same result.
    - what do the files look like in Preview?  Look at the digital-camera file.
Files in my camera look exactly as they look in the video before the RAW treatment kicks in. In Preview, files look exactly as they look in Aperture.
When I linked the RPP results, the idea was to say: "whenever I use Preview, iPhoto or Aperture, or any other program that uses OS X Camera RAW engine, like Pixelmator, all files look the same, and they are all bad."
I'll try to find other programs other than RPP that has its own engine for raw processing and post new results.

  • Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Answer found. Please find below an amazon review explicitly mentioning adding third party foam tips. Sounds like they fit and work like a dream:
"As a audio engineer, I own about a dozen different sets of earphones and in-ear 'phones. My favorite, by far, are my sure SE530s. I have some Sennheiser cx400s which are good workhorses, but lack the finesse, clarity and stunning accuracy of the Shures. For convenience, I bought the Apple's, as I wanted something I could use with the phone for calls.
I found the sound to be quite clear and beautifully clean, but like many, no matter how I tried, the stock Apple tips never made a good seal. The seal is absolutely essential to getting bass out of a balanced armature design. For you non-engineers, just trust me that if you don't have a proper seal, you will have no bass.
In my case, I think the trouble had to do with the largest size being a tiny bit too small, and the silicon being too rigid, yet slick, so they left small airgaps and were easy to remove. I tried using some foam tips from a third party, but their large was more of a medium, and never came close to a snug fit.
As an experiment, I dug around in my ear-tips from my Shure's and tried their rubber tips which are about the same size as Apple's large tips, but made of a more pliant and slightly sticky rubber.
OMG, what a transformation. Suddenly the sound blossomed, the bass became rich and well balanced, and the "top-heavy" sound was totally mellowed into a rich, well balanced and incredibly detailed presentation.
Make no mistake, these are the best 'phones under $200 I have ever heard. The bass is deep and warm, very detailed, and totally lacking fuzz or buzz that I can hear in the Sennheiser set. Look at getting tips from a better headphone. The trick is it has to have a soft rubber base that can expand over Apple's slightly larger stub. Some tips, like the Shure foam tips, have a rigid plastic sleave in the tip to keep it's position correct, and these won't expand over the larger Apple posts."

  • Standard WBS Elements v Operative WBS elements as templates

    Hi
I am considering the use of Standard WBS elements however one of the limitations that I have identified is that it is not possible to enter the any default settlement parameters into the WBS elements.
As our Work Breakdown structures are a combination of both operative as well as capital WBS elements (for accounting purposes) it is not possible to enter the default Settlement Profile in the project profile.  ie: Mulitple settlement profiles are used across the WBS elements for a single project profile, depending on the required accounting treatment.
Ensuring that users enter the correct settlement paramters for each WBS element cannot be gaurenteed and it does not appear possible to use sustitutions to populate these parameters.  Month end settlement is often problematic and the correct accounting treatment is essential so I am looking for alternatives.
One alternative that comes to mind is to set aside a range of operative WBS elements for use as templates.  This would then ensure that all required fields in the operative structures are pre - populated including the settlement parameters.
Has anyone used operative structures in this way and if so are there any potential issues?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ian

    Hi Hermant,
Thanks for your ongoing input.  I am still not sure my original message was clear.
The key point is that I am talking about using a range of operative structures as templates.  "lets just say the first 200 operative structures will be designated as templates."  These operative structures to be used as templates, contain different settlement parameters for each WBS element.
In your first post you mentioned.
"2. But this will not solve your purpose as copied projects will not have the settlement profile "as it is" in the std. operative WBS elements. Settlement profile gets defaulted from project profile... hence you will have to mainatin it manually again in the copied projects."
    and in your second post.
"That is what I mentioned in my earlier post... although you maintain different settlement parametes in project which is to be copied.. it won't be inherited in new project. You will have to maintain it manually..."
This is not the case, you actually do not need to maintain these settlement parameters manually when you copy an operative structure. (used as a template)  This is exactly why I am considering using operative structures and NOT standard structures as templates.  I agree, when using standard structures no settlement paramaters are inherited.
As I mentioned in my first post the Project Profile will not contain a settlement profile.  Hence when the operative structure with pre populated settlement parameters is used as a "template" and copied to create a new operative structure all settlement parameters are copied / inherited to the new operative structure.  This is the result based on my prototype.  Try this, copy an operative structure that has pre populated settlement parameters and you will see that all these settlement parameters are copied.....at least in my system that is the way it works.
I hope this helps clear up any misunderstanding.
    Regards
    Ian

  • Is there a industry standard studio monitor in 2009?

Hey, just wondering what monitors you guys use with your studio setup. Is there an actual industry standard monitor in 2009. I remember Yamaha and Mackie held the title at one point. For you guys that work and go into pro studios what are people using?
    Thanks

    Thanks
There is no "industry standard" but there are several brands that you'll see over and over in the best studios.
Yamaha has NEVER been an industry standard for monitors, but the NS10s were an industry standard for "if it sounds good on these crappy speakers it will sound good anywhere."
I'm using JBL 4328. They list for $1700/pair. Genelec 8030A list for the same. You can't go wrong with either of those as they are found in professional studios worldwide. Those are both self-powered.
Then there are Westlake monitors, which are in major studios. And there's Blue Sky and ADAM.
It depends on your budget. If you spend $1300 - $1700 you can get monitors that any professional engineer would be happy with. For the stuff <$1,000, the lower priced Genelecs are good. Very accurate.
You can spend >$3,000 on a pair if you want. But I'd rather spend $1700 for monitors and another $1500 on room treatment than buy a $3200 pair of monitors for an untreated room. Makes a huge difference.
And if you do a lot of dance or club music or hip-hop, you might want a subwoofer. But if your room isn't treated, the subwoofer will only make your mixes worse.
Whatever you do, go to the store and listen to the monitors with a CD you know well. And most stores will let you take monitors back and exchange them if they don't work out in your room.
    Have fun.
