Standard Definition to High Definition and iTunes Upgrades

If you have already purchased something in standard definition, is it possible to upgrade standard definition to high definition tv programmes without paying the full price?
Also, I had purchased the Downton Abbey soundtrack by John Lunn, however it has been re-released with new tracks.  If I want these additional tracks, can I be entitled to an upgrade, and pay the difference as I would like them all on one album and not on two separate albums.
Regards,
Tristan

Sorry but no, there is no upgrade from SD to HD movies or TV shows.  Nor can you "upgrade" an album if it was re-released as a new version with new content. The content owners do not allow these services.
Regards.

After APTV and itunes upgrade on mac to latest on 02/15, streaming from itunes to Apple TV is very slow. even 5 mins song takes 10-15 mins to start. Netflix/Youtube work fine on Apple TV. restarted Mac, router, modem, appletv. reset Appletv to factory setting and re-start.

Apple TV 2 does not appear in iTunes (exception being when connected via micro-usb for restore) as it has no sync capabilities.

  • IPad syncs video but can't find video file on iPad, previous OS upgrade and ITunes upgrade no problem

I could play the video file before but sine OS and recent ITunes upgrade I cannot. iTunes indicates the video file in on the iPad but you can't find it in voids icon, apple support has not yielded an answer so far

I found out: you cannot sync. clips directly into the iMovie APP via iTunes. Well, you can but it wont be available for edditing.
You must sync them into Camera Roll.

  • Apple TV and iTunes upgraded, now won't sync

About a month ago, my Apple TV upgraded to 3.0.2, and then required me to update iTunes to 9.2.0.61. The Apple TV continues to work well with the TV. It is also connected to my wireless network and the internet, since it browses the iTunes store and YouTube, as well as connecting to internet radio stations. "About" shows the correct name for the Apple TV, as well as the proper SSID and IP address for my wireless network. BUT...
In iTunes, the Apple TV does not show up in the menu list at the left side of the iTunes window, where you now find "Library", "Store", and the iPod, and where you could formerly find the Apple TV listed.
In iTunes, clicking Edit/Preferences and selecting the Apple TV tab, the list actually does show the Apple TV as connected to iTunes, with the status listed as "syncing". However, the Apple TV has not successfully synced since the upgrade to 3.0.2, as all the content remains as it was before the software update.
On the Apple TV tab, "Look for Apple TVs" is checked and "Prevent Apple TVs from syncing automatically" is unchecked.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Alan.
You're not alone; it's happening to others too. There's a thread about it here.

  • IPhone and iTune Upgrade

When Steve Jobs announced the iPhone , he talked about open architecture so that third party can make software complementing the iPhone.
I realize now that each of the so called up-grades systematically disable every third party software that I installed in iPhone.
At least Bill Gates is upfront with the monopoly Microsoft. The way Apple does is sneaky and will harm in a long run the company's reputation.

ITunes should not be looking for the file on your computer unless you are doing something "unusual". It should download the file from Apple's servers. Launch iTunes, connect the phone, and click the "Update" button. If you get an error please tell us EXACTLY what the error says (or attach a screen shot).
Do you have the latest version of iTunes (10.4)?
Have you EVER used your computer to hack or jailbreak ANY iPhone (not just the one with the problem)? If so your network database is corrupted; you will have to fix this first.

  • Making Video into High Definition in Final Cut Express

I just took some video in high definition with my high definition camera. I want to edit them in Final Cut Express, but when I import them, they show up as standard definition, not high definition. How can I change it into high definition?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    G'Day Sam,
You have have either downcoverted in the camera during capture or have an incorrect Easy Setup.
If you downconverted accidently it requires re-capture with the correct camera settings.
    What are the clip properties?

Hi I just updated from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
I write DVD's using Final Cut Pro, creating a DVD that plays HD and Standard Definition on one disk.
My problem is when I used load the disk on my G5 it would ask if you want High Definition or Standard Definition, now it just defaults to Standard Definition.(I'm using Apple's DVD Player)
    Can I fix this problem?

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • After updating to windows 8.1 iTunes does not think I have high definition display. Playback with other internet apps is in high def, but not iTunes.

I updated to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8.  Now when I try to play high definition movies, iTunes says they can not play back on my display which is low def.  My display has high resolution and display settings are correct.  Other websites play back in high def.  Just not iTunes.

    Hi,
Try this command to fix your problem:
Windows App Store doesn't load after 8.1 Upgrade
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/ouc1too/archive/2013/10/19/windows-app-store-doesn-t-load-after-8-1-upgrade.aspx
or, you can use WSreset.exe tool, or manually trying to clear the cache from the Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.

  • Why isn't my high definition video converting to standard definition?

What I'm describing here, I've successfully accomplished many, many times using Premiere Pro CS5 and now Premiere Pro CS6. Now, for the first time ever, it's not working and I'm completely baffled. (This is a high-end Windows 7 64-Bit machine with 16GB RAM running Premiere Pro CS6.)
Here's a basic summary of my workflow. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
    1. I shoot my video using a high definition camcorder (the same one I've been working with for the past year or two.
    2. I import my high definition video into a 1920x1080 sequence in Premiere Pro CS6.
    3. I edit my sequence until I'm happy.
    4. I enter and name my Encore chapter markers in the sequence.
    5. I create my Encore project and import the sequence as a timeline and set up my menus and such.
    6. I build my Encore project, first into a standard definition DVD image file (so I can later burn SD-DVDs) and then build it again into a high definition Blu-ray image file (so I can later burn Blu-rays).
The Blu-ray burn is turning out just fine.
But the video in the DVD burn is all black. I can jump around from chapter to chapter and I can hear the sound, but the video doesn't show up!
I tried this a couple times thinking that maybe Encore just messed up the SD-DVD creation process but I got the same result each time. When I preview the project in Encore, it all looks just right.
So I figured, okay, something's not working when I import the sequence.
I went back to Premiere Pro thinking I'd just export my 1920x1080 sequence into a widescreen standard definition AVI and create a new sequence just for the standard definition DVD.
The exported AVI is black as well!!
I don't get it. Why on earth won't my high definition video convert properly to standard definition?
The high definition sequence looks completely normal in Premiere Pro. What could I possibly be overlooking??
One final note. Just as another test, I copied and pasted the sequence in Premier Pro, truncated it to a couple minutes (the full sequence is 90 minutes long), and exported to a widescreen AVI again.
It just finished, I tried playing it back in Windows, and it, too, is all black, sound but no video.
Like I said, this is nothing new for me. I've done it countless times with other projects. I could really use some assistance with this one.

So I exported my completed high definition sequence to an MP4 and re-imported back into Premiere Pro. Right-clicked it and created a sequence from the clip. Then I imported my chapters from the old sequence into the new one.
I returned to Encore, modified my project to work off the newly created sequence (what a pain having to recreate all the scene links) and voila, it had no trouble making a DVD this time.
So I guess I'll get out of the bad habit of my old routine and create a sequence the "right" way from now on. Funny how we get used to doing something one way and stop thinking outside the box after a while.
Jim, I don't see how that's necessary. As long as I create an Encore project based on a good high definition sequence, I have never had to do anything other than have Encore build a standard definition DVD based on the high definition sequences. It has always done the conversion for me and produced really good DVDs. Once I create a DVD image that I'm satisfied with, I simply have Encore build a Blu-ray image using the exact same project, and that works perfectly as well. I suppose I may be missing something here but it all works and works well, so I don't see a reason to create two projects when one works well.
On a separate note, is it just me or doesn't everybody think it's high time that Adobe offer a feature to import markers from one sequence into another. I can do it automatically but I have to use a macro that I created separate and apart from Premiere Pro. For that matter, I think Encore should also offer a feature to remap all scene links to a new sequence instead of forcing me to fix them one by one myself.
Anyway, thanks to all of you for pointing me in the right direction!

  • Still Photo's and High Definition Video.

Would there be any advantage to scanning photo's for High Definition and then converting them to Standard Definition? Or would you just scan them at a higher resolution.?
I'm looking for a way to have clearer photo's and at the same time use them in a standard DVD player.
I'm in the need of a video monitor and trying to decide if there would be any advantage to moving to high definition to be ready for the future when I do not have a need for it right now. I use mostly still photo's in my videos.

As for the phpotos I would always scan or produce them at least 2x the target resolution in each direction - especdially if you're doing moves. If you know you won't be doing moves, then you can prepare them at exactly the target resolution (including the pixel shape if you're using say NTSC standard or anamorphic).
Since you're looking at protecting for an HD future, assume that target resolution is... 1080x to cover your bases.
Don't know what you're scanning, but watch out for moire patterns coming from halftone dots in printed photos. There are ways to deal with them, poke around here or better yet in Photoshop or other graphics forums.
As for an HD monitor, prices will of course plummet just after you buy it. No sense in jumping on a bandwagon you won't even be using yet. If you're serious about quality, get a broadcast SD monitor.

  • Standard Definition vs. High Definition Video on Mobile Me

Can anyone tell me whether a video shot with a high definition camcorder, then edited in imovie 09 and shared to mobile me via IM 09 look better when played on mobile me than one shot with a standard definition camcorder?
I have a video shot by a friend in standard def, edited in IM 09 and embedded on a web page. Had it been shot with a high def, would the quality on the web be better than what is seen here?:

What codec is used for MobilMe. The Apple site only talks about Photos on MobilMe!
    H.264
Does MobileMe recompress your uploaded video like the other services?
No it is h.264. Not converted to Flash like YouTube. Plays in QuickTime Player.
Can those with Windows view with Firefox and/or IE?
Yes, but they are prompted to download QuickTime player if they don't already have it
What is the frame-size for Medium and Large?
    Large - 960x540 (in widescreen)
    Large - 720x540 (4:3)
    Medium - 640x360 (in widescreen)
    Medium - 640x480 (4:3)
What is maximum the frame-rate for Medium and Large?
I have never seen a maximum
Why would one need to download since it is streaming video?
It takes a long time to stream. I have found that if I provide the option to download, a lot of people think something is wrong and they try to download it rather than waiting for it to start streaming. People expect streaming video to start right away. Most will not wait 5 minutes.
Downloading takes a long time, too.

  • High Definition Video on Itunes

I've noticed that Apple now sells their videos in higher definition, and I've also noticed that they've conveniently changed their policy of downloading purchased content so that you can only download videos once.
Does this mean that there is no way that I can get my already purchased and downloaded videos in high definition?

I would like to request that the iTunes store have HD TV shows and Movies for download or at least an option for us with HD monitors or TV's. I would gladly pay more per download, especially when "iTV" comes out next year. Which means I won't have to buy any more DVD's! In addition, please make the movies at least 5.1.

  • Standard definition (DV) video or high definition (HD)

Does anyone know a method to determine whether imported imovie files is standard definition (DV) video or high definition (HD)?
    Thanks

In addition to what Shippey said, the DV files will be imported as in the DV file container and HDV or HDAVC will be converted to AIC and placed in an MOV file container. (I.e., you can simply look at the file extension and tell the difference when the options are limited to DV or HD camcorder imports and not including the possibility of HDD or DVD SD files.)
