Mouse cursor size does not accurately reflect brush size
Mouse cursor does not reflect brush size in Photoshop CS5 on an iMac 10.5 OS. If I try to draw two parallel lines with the edges touching by aligning the edge of the cursor circle, there is a gap between the lines, no matter how hard I set the brush.
I am using a Wacom Intuous 4 mouse, but the problem persists with the standard mouse after I remove the Wacom driver, so the Wacom people say this is a photoshop problem.
Cursor size is larger than the effect size whether I am using the paint brush, history brush, clone or healing brush.Bingo!
The Mac OS setting seems to have been the culprit

Brush size no longer showing up on cursor
Hi everyone. I use my brushes a lot, but I've just lost all ability to see, on screen, in real time, the outline of my brush; all I get is a cross, no matter how big or small my brush is. The same goes for my clone stamp tool, as well as my dodge and burn tools. PS is essentially useless to me like this because I cannot see the edge of where I am painting until afterward, when I see the effect. I cannot seem to fix it in preferences, and I have no idea how this happened. Can someone PLEASE help????? Thanks, Jeff
Thanks for the prompt reply. The problem is resolved, for now, anyway. It appears to have been something to do with my cursor preferences, just as we suspected. The curious thing is that I didn't knowingly make any adjustments to my cursor preferences until AFTER this problem appeared. After it appeared, I checked my preferences, and they looked correct. Nonetheless, out of desperation, I tried to change my cursor preferences anyway, but nothing I did seemed to have any effect. After I posted the question, I shut down PS, re-entered PS and noticed that my cursors had changed. They were still wrong, but at least they had changed. I set my preferences back to the correct setting, and the problem went away.
When I paint, I adjust brush sizes and opacity and toggle between foreground and background using keystrokes, instead of the mouse, so is it possible that I mistakenly changed my cursor preferences without even knowing it???? I didn't even think about or look at caps-lock. What would that do?
Anyway, it's sorted for now, which is a huge relief, but I do wish I knew what caused it in the first place, so that I could be sure that it won't happen again. Thanks again. -
CS4 + CS5 Brush CURSOR outline disappear when increase the brush size
Hi
In Photoshop CS4 and CS5, the outline of the brush cursor starts to disappear when you increase the brush size.
It's OK under 65px in diameter and it's start to disappear over 66px. In 438px the outline is a single dot and over 439px the cursor outline is completely gone!
I read that it's caused by the old drivers for the video card. I'm using GeForce 8800GT and I updated the driver with the latest version form the nVidia web site. The problem is still here!
HELP?I'm seeing a bit of a pattern of multiple people reporting problems with nVidia 8800 cards. I'm thinking nVidia isn't testing new drivers against this particular model very intensively. See my comments on video cards and drivers in this thread:

Brush Size Stops Showing Outline Radius After 175px
Hello all!
This is my first time posting in the forums.
I am having an issue in Photoshop that stops my brush size from showing up after 175px. What I mean is, the brush shows the outline from 1px - 175px accurately, and when I make the brush bigger than 175px, the radius outline still shows up as 175px outline radius. This is very frustrating when I am using a brush size bigger than 175px, because I can't see exactly where the brush is painting and is not accurate at all.
Sometimes, when I have a brush that is bigger than 175px, then click on another tool like the pointer, and I click back on the brush tool, the brush tool shows a pointer cursor instead of the brush radius altogether.
Anyone have a solution to this frustrating issue? This is NOT a caps lock issue.
Thanks,

How can I get my brush size to appear in Photoshop CC?
I just upgraded to Photoshop CC and I cannot see my brush size, especially when I make the brush size larger. A small circle appears when the brush is very small, but at larger sizes it disappears such that I have to guess at my brush size, which does not work when using the healing tool or brush tool. I especially have problems when I zoom into the photo at 100% or more. I can only see a crosshair, but I would like to get the circle size back. I have tried several things, which have not worked, including making sure the caps lock is off and changing my preferences->cursors->normal brush tip. Any suggestions??? Thanks.
What OS are you running?

Adjustment Brush in Lightroom 5 has a different sized effect smaller than the brush size
Hi,
When using Lightroom 5 Adjustment brush, the effect is only in the inner half of the brush size circle. In other words, if you select a 1 inch brush to darken, only about the center 1/2 inch is being darkened. I'm 100 percent sure the brush has no feathering, and all the settings are fine. An expert told me to try to get rid of preferences, and try it, and it still does the same thing. Now, I just updated to LR 5.7 hoping maybe it will fix it, to no avail. The LR on my laptop behaves perfectly fine.
Attached is a screen shot and a phone shot (excuse the moire, I had to use a phone to show the brush size properly) to show settings and the effect I'm talking about, so it's perfectly clear.
I have been putting up with this for months, but it's driving me crazy. Also, it occurred to me that all adjustments I make might 'change' later when I fix it, and it might show up unknown to me when I export the files later. And this would waste hundreds of hours of work if something resets somehow.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance for all replies!
StuThis problem is caused by changing the cursor size in the ACCESSIBILITY settings in your OS. Here is a screen shot from the Mac but Windows has similar settings. I reported this in Lightroom 2 or 3 and it is STILL not fixed. (Adobe's bug fixing rate to me is pretty dismal) If you change your system cursor to anything except "Normal" you will get this behavior as Lightroom doesn't account for the system preferences. I would like to make my cursor bigger but this prevents it.

Why is Liquify Brush Size so Out of Proportion?
When I choose the Liquify option from the Filter menu, the Liquify tool opens and I have access to the custom set of Liquify tools. Unlike almost any other tool where you select a brush size, the Liquify tool requires you to modify the position of a slider rather than selecting the brush size dynamically by right-clicking.
The problem is that the brush size selector control goes from 0 to 15,000px diameter. In order to make effective use of a 15,000 pixel liquify push tool, you'd have to have a really large image. Perhaps there is a case where someone at some time used a 15,000 px diameter nudge brush in the Liquify tool, but in my nearly 20 years of using Photoshop, I have never come across the need for a brush that large.
Regardless, because the selector uses a linear scale, it is really difficult to select a small brush size (say less than 100px) without manually incrementing the slider.
I would really like to see Adobe standardize the tool size/preset selector so that it is always available via the context menu (or equivalent) and that an option exists to enable relative slider values or percentage slider values in incremental selectors like brush size. Percentages could be setup where 100% was the largest side of the current image and then brush sizes could be selected via percentage of your image (of course converting to pixels, but the scale would be percentage-based). Even an exponential scale that favored the smaller values would be helpful. Or perhaps, movable caps that would allow you to set your own Max and Min values....that would rock.
Are there are any plugins that solve this problem? Anybody have any advice on how I might be able to select more appropriately scaled brushes in the Liquify tool when I am working with images where a 15,000 pixel brush head is unreasonable.
Any input would be greatl appreciated.
JaseR_Kelly, thanks for the reply.
The problem isn't that there aren't enough ways to change the size fo the cursor, it's the relative scale of the cursor. I have two 37" Dell Ultra monitors on my desktop and to use the Alt-Right click method of resizing the brush (even on a 7500 pixel wide document at 300 dpi), I have to drag from one side of my dual monitor setup across 60 inches (whatever the horizontal width of a 37" monitor x2) about 50 times to get the brush to a size that I can actually see the outline of it.
Then, once I can see the outline of the Nudge Tool (in the Liquify tools), if I drag about 3 pixels, the visible outline of the brush wildly jumps from full-screen to tiny. It's because the scale of the brush size selector is a mess. 95% of the sizes in the selector are bigger than the piece that I am working on. Does that make sense? Why would you be able to select a tool size bigger than your document? Furthermore why would you want 95% of the available tool sizes to be unusable? It doesn't make any sense at all.
Thanks for the short reminder on brush size manipulation in general. I was surprised to see it work in the Liquify tool--though it didn't solve the issue.
Best wishes,
Jase -
Brush Disappears with Increased Brush Size
Having issues with my news CS4. When I increase my brush size, no matter if it's an eraser, stamp tool or anything else, the brush cursor or "circle" starts to disappear once the brush is more than 175 pixels in diameter. I've checked preferences and the brush tool presets and cannot find why this is happening.
How do I fix this?
Thanks, NASAphotographerUpdate your video card drivers.
This is a well documented problem. Also ensure that you have installed the Photoshop 11.0.1 patch. -
Brush size won't change with bracket keys?
Hey - I'm having an issue with Photoshop CC that I haven't encountered with previous versions of Photoshop (I've searched for solutions first - no luck). My shortcut keys for Brush size '[ & ]' stop working after choosing a different brush (even the default brushes). I can still use the Alt+mouse shortcut, but I'm old school and like using the brackets. I tried re-establishing my shortcuts in Preferences, but that did nothing. Suffice to say I'm quite frustrated as this has impacted the workflow I'm used to.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.
DustanThanks! It never occurred to me that caps lock would have any effect on brush cursors.

Brush size doesn't show on artboard
An annoying bug (another) I'm noticing lately is that the brush size visualization is not working properly.
When I (command [ or ]) resize my brush it does not show the outline of the brush on the art board. It will up to a certain size and then simply turns into the cursor, and then often will stay as a cursor until I zoom in or out.
I have the latest CC update.Elephant,
Its working in CS4 and CS5 seems to rule out a language setting issue.
And with the Align to Pixel Grid out, too, you may consider a more general error condition.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

When using Elements 11, the brush tool and clone tool only show crosshairs on the image, not the actual size of the brush selected. What setting can I use to see the brush size while working?
In full editor, go to Edit menu>Preferences>Display and Cursors. Check normal or full size brush tip.

Hello guys this is a question I want to ask to you all.
when I changed the brush size and paint it looks bigger/smaller but the cursor itself stays the same width other times as the brush got bigger the circle got bigger now its not so its hard to see where the brush will end up. any idea how I can changed this back ? I already went to preferences and and saw that its in set right just not showing . Please help am on hold because of this . TroloI've had this happen on occasion, not sure what the cause is though. Save your work, close and re-open the program and things should be back to normal.

The current Alt+Space shortcut for free image scaling is very convenient and intuitive.
Please add a feature that would allow to Freely Scale the Brush Size in a similar manner. It could be assigned to Shft+Space.
Thank you,
AlexFrom the manual:
Resize or change hardness of painting cursors by dragging
You can resize or change the hardness of a painting cursor by dragging in the image. As you drag, the painting cursor previews your changes. (Previews require OpenGL. See Enable OpenGL and optimize GPU settings.)
To resize a cursor, press Alt + right-click (Windows) or Control + Option (Mac OS), and drag left or right. To change hardness, drag up or down. -
Why is my stroke so bumpy when I use large brush sizes?
I always have to erase a ton around the edges in order to make it smooth. Any way to fix this? I'm using a Turcom tablet on Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, but this happened with all other tablets I used, too (Wacom). I can never get a smooth line with large brush sizes. I usually only have size checked in my brush tablet pressure options.
Just to clarify, I mean closer together. When you draw with a brush in a program like PSE you are actually putting down many repetitions of the brush cursor itself. You need more overlap to avoid seeing the edges of each outline.
Or you could try a softer brush.
