  • Does anyone know what is the difference between standard and value print cartridges?

I was wandering does anyone know what the difference is between the 2 I am not sure which one to get.

I do not know what printer and cartridges you are looking at, but there are typically "value" or XL cartridges that have approximately three times the ink at about twice the cost.
You can see the page yield for various printers here.

  • Printer cartridges HP 8610

We use 99% black ink, new computer HP8610. Message low on yellow ink, I take time away from work to drive to another city to get the ink $28.99.  Get back to the office insert the High Yield Cartridge, and now it says I need Blue ink.  What the f___, yesterday the scan showed only the yellow was low.  I still can not print and have a stack of emails and POs to copy.
How do I adjust the printer to print black only........ next buy will not be a HP.

The printer will use some ink from each color when a cartridge is replaced to "prime" the air out of the printhead.  If the cyan was nearly depleted replacing the yellow ink cartridge could have depleted it.  I would suggest checking the ink levels for the magenta cartridge as well, it is likely low.
HP and other printer manufacturers have different printer technologies for different needs.  For inkjet printers:
Some have printheads built into the ink cartridges.  These printers can typically print with one or more of the colors completely empty, or even with color or black (but not both) cartridges removed. The Officejet 8040 is an example.
Other printers have separate ink supplies and replaceable printheads.  An example would be the Officejet 8610 printer.  The printhead in these printers can be replaced if they are damaged by running the printhead with colors out.  Some of these printers will allow printing with a color out, other will not.  If the printer is run without ink in one or more colors the printer may be damaged, but the user may be able to recover without having to send the printer for service.  Running the printer without ink may damage the printhead.
Other printers have permanent printheads.  To run these without some ink in all the colors would risk causing damage to the printhead due to clogs, air ingested in the printhead or burned out printhead firing resistors. The Officejet 6700 is an example of this type of printer. For printers with fixed printheads this could require service to get the printer to print properly again when the ink is finally replaced.
The document here describes how ink is used.  While the document is written for HP Inkjet printers the same principles apply to inkjet printers from other manufacturers.
If you never print in color a laser printer would likely be a better choice.  If you occasionally print color but mostly black an IPH printer like those in the first category above may be a better choice.

  • HP Envy Cartridge runs out too fast!

Dear HP, I have had my HP Envy for 18 months and am growing frustrated of the ink cartridges running out of ink too quickly.  I purchased a brand new 61 black ink cartridge just last week and only printed 2 Word documents, 5 school forms (1 page each) and about 25 pages of coupons, and today the black ink ran out....after just one week and about 32 pages!  It's not worth $20 for j ust 32 pages...that's almost $1.00 per page!  I have an old HP Deskjet that only cost me $29.99 and the $15 cartridges last at least 3 times longer.  I'm tired of wasting my money on ink and feel very cheated. Regards, Laura Hamann

    Hi @Villaverde
I would like to help you with your concerns about your ink usage. The regular size colored cartridge have a page yield expectancy of 165 page, and the XL one have a 330 page yield.
Actual yield will vary depending upon the amount of content on the page.Highly "dense" documents, such as the text document below, may yield fewer pages than the ISO standard, while less dense ones such as the organization chart below would yield more pages than the standard.Printing that uses primarily one color could cause lower yields for that color, and higher yields for colors not heavily used. The yield you experience will depend upon the content that you print.
    The five standard ISO pages
    High density text
    Org Chart
The information above and more can be found here: How HP measures inkjet page yields.
If you are still concerned that you are not getting an adiquite page yield from your cartridges, I suggest calling HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can I use Replacement Printer ink cartridges for HP officejet Pro 8610

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. I previously had an 8600. They both use the same ink cartridges. I had just installed some remanufactured 950 XL and 951 XL cartridges in the old printer and tried to use them in the new printer. Of course I got an error message that cartridges weren't HP but the printer would still work. I would like to know if I can use other remanufactured ink cartridges with the new printer or if there is some way for the printer to allow me to use other ink cartridges as the HP cartridges are way over priced for the consumers. I hope there is a person out there that is conservative like me and tries to find the best bargains on everything. Your solutions would be appreciated. I waited on HP Support Assistant for 10 minutes with a dialogue I would be connected to a technician in less than a minute. They must have been on break or some other excuse, so I thought I would try this instead. Blessings. John Richardson

    Hey @rockhoundjohn
Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems.
QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely
70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.  - Source
Most people think, 'well of course that is what HP or an HP representative would say', but I have done some research and found that many others have too. Here is a perfect example of somebody who does not work for HP in any way and basically is a customer advocate (in my opinion) ; Should you refill your printer’s ink cartridges? HP says no (of course) By Matthew Murray
I found the above article interesting and genuine.
My personal recommendation is to buy the HP XL cartridges as they are more cost efficient, and be mindful in the printer you choose when buying an inkjet. The 8610 was a good choice. The expected page yield of the HP 950XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge is 2300 pages. The regular size cartridge page yield is 1000, still good but the XL is by far a better value. Some of the Photosmart printers or Deskjets are great for what they are intended for, but do not have as good of a cost per page.
HP's recommendation; Keep in mind that page yield is just one component of cost, and that factors such as quality, reliability, productivity, and efficiency affect cost as well. Products that work reliably will ultimately save you time and money. When you choose an inkjet printer, make sure you consider your individual printing needs.
    - Source
To summarize, again, yes you can refill the cartridges. The printer is not programmed to reject them. Sometimes the cartridges will not work and of course because they are non HP, HP would not be able to do anything to help. HP cartridges have a 2 year manufacture warranty; Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges and Customer-Replaceable Printheads for HP Inkjet Supplies, this may give you comfort knowing HP stand behind their product.

  • Problem with cartridges

Hi,My 932XL Black and 933 Yellow ink cartridge is lying vacant and unused as my older printer stopped working and it was replaced by an HP Officejet  8610. Those two ink cartridge has never been used and it seems like i have wasted around $51 on those cartridges. Looking for a fast reply. With Regards,Eva Pollock

Hi, The new Officejet Pro 8610 only uses (950 & 951) as listed: HP 950 BlackHP 951XL (High Yield) CyanHP 951XL (High Yield) MagentaHP 951XL (High Yield) YellowMore info:    http://support.hp.com/au-en/product/HP-Deskjet-2050-All-in-One-Printer-series---J5/4027463/model/4027468/document/c01766411#N402 Depending on where did you buy, some shops allow you to swap but many shops won't do that. Regards.

  • Glossy or AntiGlare/Normal Res or High Res for Video Editing?

I will be purchasing a MacBook Pro 15" for Final Cut Pro video editing on the road. I'm trying to decide on the best purchase configuration for the display. Apple offers Glossy Widescreen, 1440 x 900 standard. High resolution 1680 x 1050 comes in either Glossy or Antiglare.
I'm wondering which configuration would be ideal. Are there any special display considerations for video work?
I'll be getting the 2.2 GHz i7 quad with the AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB GDDR.

I have the hi res anti glare and thi sis better than the glossy in my opinion because I can do my work faster without being distracted by reflections that move or being blinded by light from behind me bouncing off the screen.  I also can use my macbook pro outside a lot better than the glossy one.  I am a graduate student so papers and presentations are mainly what i do for school.  I edit ton of video and pictures and the antiglare is my recommendation to you.  Obviously it is your choice ultimately, but I hope my input helps you out John,

  • To configure SSIS packages out of these SQL Server Standard, Web and Workgroup editions which is preferred?

    Hi All,
To configure SSIS packages out of these SQL Server Standard, Web and Workgroup editions which is preferred?
Grateful to your time and support. Regards, Shiva

    Hi Shiva,
SSIS designer and runtime, basic transforms, and data profiling tools are only supported by Standard and higher editions. Besides, some advanced SSIS adapters such as High performance Oracle/Teradata destination and Dimension processing destination adapter
are only supported in Enterprise edition. So, if you need to develop/modify SSIS packages on this server, Standard or even Enterprise editor is recommended.

  • AIR for iOS: Severe performance drop using "high resolution" published app on retina iPhone

I have created a very simple test app the simply draws a line from the previous to the current mouse/touch position after MOUSE_MOVE is detected. I published the app, stage size 320x480, in both "standard" and "high" resolution using AIR for iOS and added each to two different iPhones, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S. I published again, stage size 640x960 in standard and high resolution and placed on both phones.
    320x640 Flash stage size
    - standard resolution on iPhone 3GS: works as expected, no hitches.
    - high resolution on iPhone 3GS: works as expected
    - standard resolution on iPhone 4S: works as expected
    - high resolution on iPhone 4S: hangs occasionally and predictably for a half second or so once 20-30 points have been added to the drawing. Of the 4 tests at 320x640 this is the only one that displays at high res.
    640x960 Flash stage size
Everything was the same as above. The only test here that diplayed at high res was the high res publish on the iphone 4s as expected. Which showed the same poor performace as above.
Perhaps this has something to do with the upscaled application trying to keep track of mouse position but I'm stumped. Any ideas?

I create an app for kids that draws using MOUSE_MOVE, KidFunKit. It's a retina display high-res app, using AIR 2.6 I got performing issues, after I couple of lines were drawn. Using AIR 3.0, it works nice. Obviously if your frame rate is 60 ... you'll expect lack of performance. You may try Starling Framework based on STAGE3D if you want the most of AS3.

  • Canon 5D Mark II Standard Profile - way off (reds)

This could also be in the Lightroom forum, but here is probably the better place.
I have always noticed that of all the cameras I ran through LR/ACR the Standard profile for the Canon 5D Mark II is way off in terms of reds. This mostly shows in shots that are underexposed and have tungsten light.
Adobe's Neutral profile is way closer to Canon's Neutral Picture Style. Adobe's Standard profile can yield very unpleasing skin tones with a red-orange cast that's at its worst in the shadow zones.
Here are some examples. ACR and DPP have Exposure set +1 and White Balance to "as shot".
ACR is in its default settings (Blacks 5, Brightness +50, Contrast +25, Medium Contrast Tone Curve).
DPP has the black point set to -4 to give a similar amount of shadow contrast.
Please note that on a browser without color management this might not look right and you might need to download the images.
    ACR 6.1, Standard profile
    DPP 3.8.2 Standard Picture Style
    ACR Neutral profile
    DPP Neutral Picture Style
    Thomas

Yes, and I know what WB is also.  And I know that different raw converters interpret the "as shot" wb exif data differently, and therefore there is no reasonable way to compare results without an explicit wb on a neutral object in the image within each raw converter.
I believe that in order to do valid comparisons among the different raw converters one should prepare a test image including a known reference, preferably the color checker chart.  The raw image can then be run thru each converter with the first step being to wb on the second brightest neutral patch, and then (and IMO only then) one can do reasonable color assessments.

  • Sony Hybrid High Definition Camera

I bought a new high definition camera by sony. I could not read either the standard or high definition files with imovie so I purchased final cut which is suppose to read AVCHD files. I still can't read them at all. Are sony files proprietary format? Do I need some kind of converter? It does not recognize my camera at all (only USB connection available - no firewire port as the camera has an internal hard drive as well as mini DVD) so I have to copy the files from my windows PC onto a flash drive and to my mac. Still can't read files (doesn't recognize format)
    Any suggestions?

Did you open the Log and Transfer window or the Log and Capture window? FCP will only see a camera connected via Firewire in Log and Capture. But AVCHD and P2 formats can connect via USB and be viewed in the Log and Transfer window.
If you copy the files to the harddrive first, you have to copy the entire contents of the camera drive because there is a file structure directory that must be maintained in order for FCP to see the files and convert them to .mov

  • Converting standard definition 1:33 ratio to 1080i keeping ratio

I am using standard definition 1:33 ratio clips in a 1080i blow-up (with black bars on the sides, of course).  Should I ask Premiere to interpret the 720x580 standard footage as 1080i non-anamorphic or should I use SpeedGrade to reconstitute the image to this same standard?
Is it advisable to retain the clips original lower frame first or should I accept the upper field first standard for high definition?

For that job I think is better Premiere, I think that SpeedGrade haven't support for fields.

  • No difference between High and Normal output sharpening

I was going to post a topic about how small is difference between screen output sharpening settings, when some tests revealed that in fact the difference is nil.
b Can anyone see any difference between Normal and High screen sharpening in applied at export?
I even stacked the two versions in Photoshop with the Difference blending mode on and a Levels adjustment layer amplifying the difference, and even the histogram was showing that I'be got big plain black rectangle.
Sharpening for paper seems to work fine.
    Lightroom 2.3 Windows.

Just took the time to test this on my 'calibration' image and there is indeed no difference in Standard and High sharpening for screen.
Same result with and without resizing image; with and without jpeg compression; with both tif and jpeg files.
