Standard vs Extended

Seems like a classic question and I search. Found something that raises another issue - but not that. Also, seems like the general consensus was - if you don't know if you need extended, then standard is fine. So much for the search...
Frustrated, the web site appears to lack a table comparing the included and excluded features - rather, has glossy narrative paragraphs on SOME of the features. Nothing like the version table that shows up on the order page of CS3 vs CS4 vs CS5, Or the table that lists what's in the various Suites. Thought I could download the trial of the Standard to see what was missing, but it only downloads Extended, even if you start from the PS Standard "Try" botton. Likewise, the Design Suite standard trial reverts to Premium at download. AAAAHHH!
Here is the issue:
Currently have CS3 Master Suite and wanted to defer a full upgrade until the next (and final eligible) cycle when "CS6" comes out. Should have a more powerful computer by that time for programs like Premiere where some CS5 features exceed the current computer. Since Photoshop is my primary, looking at just upgrading it as a stopgap to use the new features, until the the full upgrade. Then the question - save $$ with Standard? It probably has the features I need...but does it?
Other than the 3D feature in extended, what else does it have that is not included in Standard?
Secondary issue seen referenced in the forum search...Is there an issue when already have Extended in the CS3 and going back to Standard?

Thanks for the replies. Not ignoring you
but stuck in a meeting. Seeing your replies come in on the Blackberry was a nice diversion from a boring meeting. Then came the "not upgradeable" - what? - this meeting is not getting over fast enough!
Doublechecked and you are right. With so many variable combinations on upgrades, you are right, but easy to assume otherwise, considering that the Master Suite can be upgraded to a "lesser" Suite. What I am thinking now is the CS5 Design Premium Suite. then when "CS6" is actually created and offered return to the Master Suite. - either as a CS5 upgrade or possibly a CS3 upgrade as cost will probably be about the same between upgrading an old Suite with all the programs Vs the immediate prior Suite and adding Programs that were not included in it..
Just a quick question on upgrades. Does it create a new directory where both would reside on the computer, or overwrite the old program? And if overwrites, does it leave the additional programs, such as Premiere, alone so I could still use the CS3 version.
Thanks for your assistance.

  • MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED

    Hello,
I'm interested to find out how to MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED. Its my intention to buy the upgrade not thru
download, but purchasing the dvd's needed eventually used if necessary.
    Thank you

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

  • Standard and Extended ACLs?

I just want to know that if extended IP access lists can do all tasks, I mean extended access lists have a lot of controlling parameters, then why people use Standard Access lists instead of Extended access lists.
I just want to know that in which scenario we should use STD ACLs instead of EXTD ACLs, what special advantage of using STD over EXTD ACLs,
    Please reply.

    Posting
To summarize what the other posters have already noted, the two principle reasons why one might use a standard ACL (which could also be functionally accomplished) by an extended ACL are 1) some commands that rely on ACLs might still only support standard ACLs (more likely in older IOS versions) and 2) a standard ACL might be just a little clearer to understand.
Another (hopefully needless) reason why you might want to use a standard ACL, when an extended ACL would do, could be the device's processing performance might be better with a standard ACL.
    Logically the standard ACL ACE:
    access-list 10 permit host 1.1.1.1
should be the same as this extended ACL ACE:
    permit ip host 1.1.1.1 any
But a "dumb" implementation of processing the extended ACL might wildcard compare the destination IP and other optional parameters while the standard ACL only examines the source IP.  Should this happen?  No, but such might happen because of different generations of code and/or different teams working on ACL processing.
BTW, if there is a significant performance difference, it's just as possible extended works better.
Again, this is very extreme and unlikely, but this could be a reason to use one form of ACL vs. the other when both can provide the same filtering.  (Also, if this is "discovered", it's very likely to be very device and IOS version specific.  Personally I would consider taking "advantage" of such a discovery poor practice, except in extreme situations.)

  • Standard Vs Extended Interface Determination

Can someone tell me what is the difference between extended and standard interface determination

Extended receiver determination is used when you want to decide which receiver's to send the message to based on the content of the input message or some other condition at runtime.
Here, first you define mapping to figure out the receivers of the msg and then you call this mapping in your receiver determination. the "receiver" message type which is present in sap basis -->... XI/system namespance i think.
The whole idea behind enhanced receiver determination is that during normal receiver determination the pipe line step for receiver determination is executed before the mapping step this resulted in a limitation in XI that you could not change your receivers based on the mesg content at runtime.
Now, in enhanced receiver determination XI will first execute this receiver determination mapping and figure out the receivers at runtime and then call the individual mappings.

  • WAAS: Standard vs Extended ACL's for WCCP Transparent Redirection

I've come across a number of implementations where the ACL's associated with services 61 & 62 are using extended access-list. I am writing with specific reference to wccp configured in promiscuous mode.
Since WCCP will only redirect TCP, and the WAAS solution in general applies only to TCP - then is there really a need for extended acls for redirection?. Furthermore, in a simple implementation you do not need separate acls linked to 61 & 62 - i don't think so.
Standard acls parse the filteration process more quickly than extended.
    thanks
    Ajaz

The extended access-lists are used because some TCP traffic does not to be optimized (telnet, BGP, SNMP, ...), or some hosts have compressed traffic for any application and need to be excluded from redirection. Besides that standard access-lists can be used.

  • Best Practice for Monitoring, on VPS 2012 Server Standard. Extended Events or Profiler?

    Hi,
What tools do you use to determine if you should tweak SQL Server configuration and optimize code route, or simply bump up your virtual resources? Can someone share a bag of Extended Events to monitor at the VPS level?
I'm a reasonably decent SQL Developer but never advanced far with DBA efforts. Especially when the mainstream went virtual. Seemed to me that all SQL Servers flexibility with managing disk and memory went out the window now that everything is 'shared', NATed,
and Plesked. So I basically dropped out of the conversation and built stuff with SSIS and TSQL.
Now, I'm charged with assessing a bottleneck on a VPS Windows 2012 Standard running SQL 2012 Express. I've read that running profiler and traces are deprecated and I've looked a bit at the servers extended events on the hosted environment. I have not run anything.
My question: Does it make sense to think in terms of 'levels' in deciding what to monitor? I consider the SQL Server as a level, then the Windows Server, and finally the Virtual Level. What I'm getting at, is sure, I can monitor SQL Server with a profile tool,
but it won't know SQL is on a VPS. So do I miss something?
There used to be day when we had a dedicated physical box for SQL Server. We ran traces using profiler and got good clues on how to improve performance. In todays VPS world we can use sliders to increase virtual memory and disk space. What tools do you use
to determine if you should tweak SQL Server configuration and optimize code route, or simply bump up your virtual resources? Can someone share a bag of Extended Events to monitor at the VPS level?
What Extened Events at the VPS level tell me if SQL Server is struggling with the limited 1Gb virtual memory? I realize this is not a direct question but hopefully someone will point this developer in the right direction.
    John

    Hi John,
From SQL point of view it doesnt really matter whether the box is physical or virtual. So if you feel there is performance issues with sql and you are well versed with sql profiler troubleshooting go ahead with that. If you feel performance is good, then
you know where to look into.
I would first prefer to find whether it is really a problem with SQL before trying to troubleshoot sql side and I use perfmon counters to do that.
Also I would look at the SQL Error log to see if there are any obvious errors.
I havent used extended events much so leaving that for others to comment on. :)

  • Can I upgrade Photoshop CS6 from standard to extended without reinstalling?

    Hello,
I have Photoshop CS6 Standard already installed on my Mac (OS 10.8). My employer has just purchased the extended version for me and I would like to upgrade. I have a valid serial number to do this.
I understand that the software is the same and depending on the serial number it can unlock the extended portion of CS6. Is there any way of upgrading the installed version to extended by re-intering the new serial number or should I just install a second copy of PS CS6 and have 2 PS CS6 (one standard and one extended)?
    Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Please follow the below mentioned steps:
    Open Photoshop
    Choose Help > Deactivate
Select Deactivate Permanently from this computer after deactivation completes
    Click Deactivate.
Reopen Photoshop. You are prompted for a serial number. Enter the Extended serial number.

  • Can I upgrade from Photoshop CS6 Standard to Extended

From everything I have been able to find out, I would need to pay the full $400 upgrade from my CS4 license even though I already own CS6. Surely there must be a way to go from CS6 to CS6 Extended for less than the cost to go from a previous version to CS6 Extended, but if there is, I cannot find a way how.
    Thanks,
    R

Primarily a budgetary concern. At the time, I had $199 to spend on the upgrade. The extra $200 wasn't going to happen before the end of December when the pricing was said to increase so I went ahead and picked up CS6. The 3D capabilities would be nice to have and probably would be helpful in future projects, but the need right now was to get the upgrade to the standard with the (now presumably false) assumption I could upgrade when I had a few more gigs show up.
If it's another $400 to upgrade, it won't be worth it for me. My primary job is programming, I only do side work for photography and some simple design and while it'd be nice to have some basic 3D ability in Photoshop, it's not $600 worth (400 for the upgrade + the $200 I already spent).

  • CAN: Standard and Extended Frames/Wake up nodes

Hello, my name is Gerardo Palmeri . I need ask you questions about CAN BUS and USB-8473.
I´m programming an application in wich I´ll abble to meassure Voltages, currents and CAN BUS codes from a NODE into Steering Wheel of Truck.
The NODE is "sleeping" and i need wake up it. At the moment I can´t do it.
The system use Extended frames (29 bits) and I made the next Net Topology to find out the problem:
Node A (CAN 1): USB-8473 write msg in the net.
Node B (CAN 0): USB-8473 listen the bus activity.
Node C (ID: C012171): Node into the steering wheel. (Target) Note that C012171 is an extended address (frame)
I use 2 tools to manage the bus activity:
transmit: I use CAN_Transmit.vi (from examples library) to send messages
Receive: NI CAN BusMonitor from "Measurement and automation explorer" to read messages from de bus.
When I write a message to ID: C012171, NI CAN BusMonitor listen it and show me correctly the data but the ID =171 (with out C012, the system ignore the most significant part of the ID). NI CAN BUS Monitor indicates are receiving Standard Frames.
    1. Do Someone know why the ID is truncated?
    2. Could have a mistake in the Extended Comparator and Extended mask selected? I defined 0 for both.
Thanks for your atention!!!! I´ll expect for your answer.

Hi!! Yes, you´re rigth!!...i just wired the CAN ID to a pin of an OR instruction and in the other pin I conected x20000000. This means that the 29th bit is one and the write can instruction is able to write data to devices with extended Frames.
Thanks for your help and keep in touch!!!

  • Upgrade Pricing, CS4 Standard to CS4 Extended

Haven't been able to find anything elsewhere on this so I thought I'd see if anyone in the forum could steer me in the right direction.  A couple of months ago I upgraded from CS3 Extended to CS4.  Didn't think I'd need the Extended edition features so I saved a few bucks and went with CS4 Standard.  Now I think I'd like to go to the Extended edition after all, just to get familiar with the tools.  I've been hoping I could locate a way to do so for just the price difference between the two upgrades but I can't turn up anything in the store's upgrade pages ... the cheapest thing listed is the full $349 upgrade from CS3. Anyone know if it's possible to upgrade from Standard to Extended for just the price difference between the two upgrades and if so, how to go about it?
    Thanks

Never heard of it being done but, if it is possible, you would have to do it through adobe customer support.

  • I Had CS5 Extended and the Installer Upgraded me to the CS6 Standard Version

Can someone explain this to me in terms I can understand?
I was happily running CS5 Extended which I purchased about a year ago.
I installed the CS6 Beta and it installed the Extended version, which I assumed was the only beta available.
I pre-ordered CS6 about a week ago.  When the script asked me what version I had, I checked CS5 Extended.  It made no reference to CS6 Extended nor did it ask me which version I wanted.
I just downloaded and installed CS6 about an hour ago.  I removed the CS6 Beta first as instructed.  I registered the install with the serial number I was given.
I now have CS6 Standard!  What must I do to get the Extended version I was previously running?
(Also, there is a bug still extant in CS6 Bridge I was going to report the other day only to discover Adobe had made the CS6 Beta forum Read Only.  Let's get this Standard versus Extended problem fixed first.)
    Gerry

Sounds as if the serial number Adobe gave you is for the standard version.  Perhaps a mistake on their part or perhaps an ordering error somewhere along the line.
I have the CS5 Design Premium and I also have CS4 Extended.  I decided not to upgrade the CS5 DP so I just upgraded CS4E to CS6E.  No problems at all with the install so far.
Oops, a problem!  Camera Raw as shipped with CS6 does NOT support the Canon 5D Mark III.  What a bummer.  Looks as if Adobe dropped the ball.

  • After Slipstreaming Updates Acrobat Pro Extended shows "STANDARD" edition

    Hi to everyone.
I slipstreamed all Adobe acrobat 9 Pro extended updates up to 9.3.3. it is showing  ' pro extended version' everywhere except when i click on the - help menu -> about acrobat 9 pro extended, and the pop up window shows - Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.
I slipstreamed for about 3 times thinking there was an error somewhere. I installed adobe acrobat 3 times and the help menu still shows "Standard" edition.
    I used this command:
          eg:    msiexec.exe /a Acro3d.msi /p C:\AIP\AcrobatUpd933_all_incr.msp
Acrobat just works fine, but it's wired to show Standard edition when it is Pro extended.
Does it have to do with slipstreaming? If not can anyone help me with this issue Please?
    Thank you

  • Installing PS Extended over PS standard

We have CS6 Design Standard installed on 3 computers in our building (through a concurrent educational site license). This has Photoshop Standard. I need Photoshop Extended. The cheapest route through our site license is to buy single user PS Extended stand-alone and install on my machine.
So, my question is, should I install PS Extended alongside PS Standard? Or is it better to  uninstall PS Standard (which came with the suite), run Adobe Cleaner, then install Photoshop Extended?
And how will this effect Bridge and syncing color management?
    Thanks much, for any suggestions.
    Charles

There is no way to install two Photoshops. It's either one or the other. Extended will simply superceed/ replace Standard. Uninstalling beforehand will do zero to help matters along. It's simply a serial number thing that turns Standard into Extended even though you will need to run the installer again to bend the licensing in place for the new serial number. Beyond that it will simply use whatever prefs and settings are already in place.

  • Deactivate Photoshop Standard to upgrade to Extended

If you are having trouble getting Photoshop to upgrade from Standard to Extended (my case was going from Design Standard to Design Premium), try to deactivate the Photoshop under the Help button. (If it is grayed out, go to File and New and start a blank file, then Deactivate should be black). Mine specifically said it would deactivate Design Standard, which was what I was after. Once it closed and I launched Photoshop again, it was the Extended version. Oh happy day. I must give credit to David Artz for his post from November for the fix. Thank you David.

Yes, $199 for the regular Photoshop CS6 version, $399 for Extended from CS5 standard.
A full copy, without the upgrade, is $999 for Photoshop Extended.
So the upgrade already gives you a $600 discount.
Just pay like we all did, or sign up for the subscription mode, $9.99 per month for both the latest version of Photoshop  Extended and Lightroom thrown in.  With a subscription, you'll never own the software.  When your monthly payments stop, the software ceases to work.
