Standard vs. Professional

I am having problems viewing the form highlight fields/default type values in Acrobat Standard 6.0 -- will upgrading to Acrobat Standard 7.0 allow us to view these fields? Or does everyone need to have Acrobat Professional 8.0 to view the default form fields AND be able to save?
We can view the fields fine in Reader 8.0 -- but we need to be able to save the transmittal forms with the typed in information (which is not possible in Reader).
Many thanks,
Jessica W.

I use Acrobat Pro at work to "chop up" scanned documents into smaller pdfs. I would like to do this on my home computer too. Should I purchase Professional or will Standard be good enough?

  • Which license type do we need to buy, standard or professional?

We have been helping a customer to develop a web based system built around Flash media server.
For our work we have used the developer edition. Things are going well and now our customer is now looking to go live and so wants to purchase a full media server license, however we are not sure which particular license they should purchase, either Standard or Professional ?
From looking at the product specification it would appear standard would seem to be the one but we make use of action script to create custom “applications” on the FMS server, some of which are used to record the session and the specification about what is available in professional isn't totally clear.
Finally is possible to upgrade from standard to professional at a later date if we end up picking the wrong one by mistake?

Hello, you’d definitely need a Professional licence for these types of apps (provided you use custom Server-Side ActionScript code). To avoid an erroneous situation with the licence – Standard edition is good for streaming media to a whole plethora of devices, but it can’t store custom code, can’t record streams from Flash Player, and doesn’t support rtmfp connections (p2p commu8nication). • Security question about opening PDFs in Reader as opposed to Standard or Professional

Our ITC wants us to open all downloaded PDFs in Acrobat Reader 9 as opposed to Acrobat 7.0 Standard. We currently have both. We download a lot of PDFs and frequently need to Reduce File Size or extract pages, etc. I am hoping to upgrade my Acrobat 7.0 Standard to Professional 9.
Is there a valid security reason to always open first in Reader? Based on what I have read Acrobat Reader 9 and Professional 9 both had security risks and it is my understanding that a patch has been released today.
Is there a security risk still for Acrobat Professional 9 and is there a security risk for Acrobat Standard 7.0? Does requiring us to download, save and open PDFs in Reader 9 first make sense from a security standpoint?
Thanks very much for any input.

I don't remember any claims that Reader was safer than Acrobat. I use Acrobat exclusively and Adobe recommends against installing both due to conflicts (they use a lot of the same files). The biggest factor to be careful about is to not open any attachments or applications that may be built in. These can be put in the PDF and both Acrobat and Reader open such tools. I would tend to question the basis for the IT folks decision, particularly based on the Adobe recommendation and problems that it creates. At least that is my opinion.

  • Where has Menu Item : "Edit Links..." within MSP (Standard or Professional) 2007 gone to in version 2010 and/ or 2013 ?

    Hi folks,
Can someone please tell me where I can find the "Links..." menu item in version 2010 and ver. 2013 that is under the EDIT menu, up until MS Project (Standard or Professiona) version 2007 ?
Just as a refresher, the Links dialog window has an Update Now,
Open Source, Change Source..., and Break Link
    buttons, etc.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Office 2004 standard or professional?

I am wondering if I should get Office standard or professional. The cost is not so much an issue, since I can have a student deal with my school (for the MS Student Select Office 2004, standard or pro).
I know the basic difference is that the professional version has Virtual PC, but I'm not sure I 1) understand what it does 2) if it's worth the additional memory space needed to install it.
    Thank you for helping me!

The only difference between Standard and Professional is VirtualPC.
    What it does (VirtualPC):
Allows you to run a copy of Windows (in a window) on your Mac. And it will facilitate sharing files between your Mac and this copy of Windows. It's useful if there is some Windows only program that you absolutely need (or want) to run on your Mac.
Is VirtualPC worth it: That depends. If you need Virtual PC to get work done than yes, it's worth it. If you don't NEED it, but just want to run a Win only game or app, then sure, again, it's worth it.
The fact that you are asking what VirtualPC is though, pretty much suggests you don't need it. Not to offend, but if you needed the program you would already know what VirtualPC does.
    Hope that helps.

  • COM dlls in the Standard and Professional Editions of Crystal Reports

    Hi.
Do the Standard and Professional editions of Crystal reports install all the com dlls?
    thanks

    Hi,
The crystal reports trainign for SAP Business One is designed for partners and customers and provided for free to them.
It's not available to non-customers. You will need to have a login to the partner or customer portal to use it.
Alternatively you can use the regular Crystal Reports training resources or available books to get yourself skilled for Crystal Reports. Being able to work with Crystal Reports is 90% of the work where as the SAP Business One specific's are in the area of ....
    - Release 8.8: the datasource connections; working with variables in the report; intergration and distribution of reports
    - Release 2007: linking the reports into the SAP Business One menu and making them secured available to the end users.

  • Plug-in development standard or professional?

    Hi all,
Our company develops plugins for Acrobat X professional. We are planning to upgrade multiple machines to Acrobat XI. The SDK documentation states  "Plug-ins for Acrobat Standard do not have access to some APIs". But we are unable to find out which API's. Apparently the documentation does not include this information. For example we also work in the COS-Layer, is this supported in the standerd acrobat? There is also no trail version of Acrobat Standard XI, thus there is no way to test if our plugins work with Acrobat Standard XI
Could someone point us in the right direction? Any help would be appreciated!
    Regards,
    Robert

I've never found out, nor yet hit an API which wasn't there. The Cos, PD, AV, PDFEdit APIs are there for sure. I think you'd be looking for APIs which hook to completely missing features e.g. if there is an API to preflighting, it would only be in Pro since preflighting is only in Pro. I think you'll really just need to bite the bullet and buy a copy.

  • Standard v Professional and when does this beta expire?

I just saw the email from adobe that included this little
    nugget of info:
We're also offering new Flex 3 packaging and pricing when it
    ships in early 2008.
    Adobe Flex™ Builder™ 3 Standard Edition
    $249
    Adobe Flex™ Builder™ 3 Professional Edition
    $699
Flex Builder 3 Professional Edition adds the following
    features:
    * Data visualization and charting components
    * Memory and performance profilers
    * Flex test automation framework
This appears to be great news for us that just to pure AS3
development as I don't use the charts and such. The memory and
performance profilers seem interesting but I'm not sure they are
    $450 interesting.
Why not an ActionScript developers edition? Take out the Flex
designer and add back the memory / performance profiler and sell it
for the same $250....Just a thought. Would be great for people like
me...and for those that just want a better AS editor for CS3.
So this says that Flex 2 pricing will be effected Nov 1, I'm
assuming that this beta will run for 30 days and then I could by
flex builder 2 for $250 and then enter that serial number and run
until flex builder 3 is released, at which point I'd need to buy a
second license for flex builder 3 standard for $250....which means
that I could end up with flex builder 3 now (running beta then full
version) for the same $500 that I can get flex builder 2 for
today...as long as I plan out my trial/ purchase.
    Thanks for listening Adobe!
    C.

I've read all this info in a couple of places. The fact
remains, here on November 2nd, that when I go to the adobe web
site, to purchase my copy, the price is still $499 for the standard
version of 2, and $299 to add charting. my boss is ready, willing,
and able over here to buy Flex2, with I guess the "support" package
to allow getting flex3 when it ships. But, why spend $499 for a
product that is supposed to have dropped about in half? Where is
the magic place to go to get the new pricing?

  • Standard versus Professional

I have tested a feature in Acrobat Professional 9  which "Extend[s] Features in Adobe Reader".  I am wondering if this feature was available in Acrobat 9 Standard?
Also whether this feature is new to 9.0 or was it available in earlier versions and which ones those are.
    Thank you for any responses

I have tested a feature in Acrobat Professional 9  which "Extend[s]
Features in Adobe Reader".  I am wondering if this feature was available
    in Acrobat 9 Standard?
No, only in Acrobat 9 Pro and Pro Extended.
Also whether this feature is new to 9.0 or was it available in earlier
versions and which ones those are.
It is availbale in Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions.

  • Office 2010 In-place upgrade from Standard to Professional Plus

    Hi,
My current customer bought licenses (MAK keys) for both Microsoft Office 2010 Standard and Office 2010 Professional Plus. The majority of the estate will use Office 2010 Standard, with about 10% of the users using Office 2010 Professional Plus.
I'm looking for a way to "upgrade" Microsoft Office 2010 Standard to Office 2010 Professional Plus, so I can deploy Office 2010 Standard as part of the installation baseline. I can successfully upgrade the existing Standard installation to Professional
Plus, but after the installation any of the applications present in Standard show two licenses (one Standard license and one Professional Plus license).
Is it possible to de-register the Office license during installation of Professional Plus or do any of you perhaps have another method to solve this?
    Thanks for your assistance.
    Kind Regards,

    Hi Don,
Thank you, it does help. My OCT is set to "Default Setup behavior; earlier versions of installed programs are removed". This works fine, all programs run successfully etc, the upgrade runs without any problem.
However, the license for Office 2010 Standard is not removed/replaced during installation. Which means that after the upgrade, the applications show that two licenses are required. I am wondering if there is a way to tell during installation to remove previously
installed licenses, to manually remove the license or any other way.
The customer is using KMS, so in terms of activation it's no issue. I am wondering though if it's an issue in licensing itself. Because if we follow this scenario, when Office Pro is deployed, a workstation seems to need two licenses. If this is fine in
licensing terms, I'm okay. If it isn't, I need to find another solutions.
    Thanks again!

  • Cloud Licensing - Can Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0 Standard / Professional both be used on Windows RDS 2012 R2?

We have users that share a remote desktop server, Windows 2012 R2.
We use Adobe Acrobat 9.0.0 standard and professional.  Is there a conflict in software or legality for allowing our users both these programs simultaneously on the remote Cloud server?  Thanks!

You should probably ask to Adobe, but as license states: "You must have a valid Acrobat software license for every computer that has access to Acrobat software."
Because you predeploy this SW to these devices without user intervation, you must sign in to Adobe Runtimes / Reader Distribution License Agreement.

  • Microsoft Project Standard vs. Microsoft Project Professional

    Hey gang,
I always thought that the difference between Standard and Professional could be summed up this way:
One of them (Professional) permits you to connect to Microsoft® Project Server (particularly now in version 2013).
    However, in reading this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc750929.aspx
    It states:
" ... Microsoft Project Standard can be used stand-alone, or in combination with Microsoft Project Server for more advanced team collaboration..."
Is this true/ correct?  Can Project Standalone 2013 connect to Project Server???
\Spiro Theopoulos PMP, MCITP. Montreal, QC (Canada)

Hi Spiro, This article applied to 2002 version. I do not have enough experience with Project 2002 to confirm it, but at least since Project 2003, you do need MS Project Pro in order to create an account and connect to Project Server.
    Hope this helps,

  • Patch/Detour for Acrobat Standard/Professional 8/7 for Flash Vulnerability APSB09-10

Are Acrobat Standard or Professional version 8 or 7 vulnerable to the embedded Flash vulnerability in security bulletin APSB09-10?  Adobe posted a patche for Acrobat 9, but not versions 8 or 7.  The detour that Adobe put on their Product Security Incident Response Team blog does not appear to apply to Acrobat version 8 or 7 (there is no authplay.dll file to delete, rename, or remove access to). If Acrobat 8 or 7 are vulnerable, there is no patch, and the suggested detour does not work, how do we make Acrobat 8 and 7 secure.  (The cost to upgrade to version 9 is not reasonable just to get a security fix.)

How can we be sure of that? I have found nothing authoritative from Adobe. Their security bulletin is very explicit about the versions of Flash Player that are affected and pretty good about the versions of Adobe Reader, but there is no mention about vulnerable versions of Acrobat in the security bulletin or the PSIRT blog. Are we reading a lot between the lines based on no patch for Acrobat versions earlier than 9.x? I would not read the lack of a patch to mean that the older versions are not vulnerable. Is Adobe just expecting everyone to upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat? They can do that with Adobe Reader and Flash Player because they are free. But upgrading to the latest version of Adobe is not something that people will do just to fix a security vulnerability.
I'd really like an official statement from Adobe, perhaps even an update to their security bulletin, clarifying exactly which versions of Adobe are vulnerable and which need no patch/detour.

You only need to install your professional license on your standard setup and you should be good to go, no need to start from scratch.
