Standardizing the format of phone numbers in contacts

I am looking for a script or app that will quickly standardize the format of phone numbers in my contacts.  Any suggestions?

Before you sync your iPhone the next time, activate the option "sync addressbook" and "replace all Contacts on iPhone". The next sync will replace your contact info on your phone. From that point on all contact infos will be the same on your mac and and your phone. And changes or new infos will also be seen on both systems.
Hope this helps

  • How to change the order of phone numbers in Contacts?

For the phone numbers for a specific contact on my iPhone, I may have: 1. work fax, 2. work, 3. home, 4. mobile. For the same contact synced on my Mac, I have, in Address Book: 1. home, 2. mobile, 3. work and 4. work fax. I obviously prefer to have Mobile first.
Is there a way to control and change the order of phone numbers for a contact on the iPhone?

That is correct is doesn't. Standardized formatting of phone numbers in the iOS app is more important because it supports contact from a variety of locations (gmail, hotmail, etc.). iCloud doesn't (not directly).

it did so.  Contacts on my macbook pro does show up this way.  I do have a mobile me account and in the past syncing was no problem.  What setting has changed?

The phone number format as well as the date language and format and the time format are controlled by the Region Format setting. Go to Settings > General >International > Region Format.  When you change a region format, you can go back one page (to International) and see an example of the date/time/phone number format that your selected region format will produce.

  • How can I change the order of phone numbers in a contact?

I have contacts that have more than one phone number (I am sure we all have those in this day and age). The importance of the phone numbers varies over time and I want to have the most important one as first on the list. How can I change the order that phone numbers are displayed within a contact?
    Thanks for any help.

Currently, the order in which the phone numbers appear (in a contact) is dependent on the sequence to which you enter them. There is no way to change that order other than re-entering them in the desired order.

  • Max phone numbers per contact in the phonebook for...

    Hi,
I have Nokia 5300 which is running s40. I also have a Nokia N70 which is running s60.
Nokia N70 can store more than 5 phone numbers per contact where as 5300 can only store 5 which i found out when i tried sending a business vCard. I was wondering whether this is a problem because of the s40 version on 5300 and whether there is a software update for this. If not, i would just like to know what is the reason (out of curiosity - is it the 5300 hardware and runs s40 or something else ...).
    Thanks & Regards,
PS: I found out that Phonebook is part of the OS/firmware for the phone.

The S40 Nokia operating system - what the 5300 is based on - is in many ways simpler & more limited than S60/Symbian. (In some ways it is also more efficient and at least simpler/smaller.)

  • HT4528 my iphone synced with my computer and left my contact info but erased the address and phone numbers but left notes and email addresses on the phone and computer

Is there any way to restore the addresses and phone numbers to the contacts on the iphone and computer that were erased after it synced?

Then chances are you won't be able to get them back.  You can try restoring from your last iPhone backup to see if they're still there.  To do this, prior to connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences; on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar right-click on its name and choose Restore from Backup.  Of course, if your backup has already been overwritten with a new backup that doesn't contain the missing contact information then this will not restore it to your phone.)  When done you can go back to iTunes Preferences and re-enable automatic syncing if you prefer this.

  • HT4972 I have lost most (but not all) of the phone numbers from Contacts.

This is my work iphone, connected to my work MS Exchange account.  First I upgraded to iOS5, but that caused the 3G connection to stop working (my phone contacts were still there at that point).  The IT guy at work eventually fixed the 3G connection - it was something to do with the profile being blocked, I don't know exactly, and I don't know what he did to get it working.  However, whatever he did, it caused most of the phone numbers in Contacts to disappear.  Unfortunately they're not in my Contacts in Outlook either, so I can't restore them from there.
I guess the most likely option is to restore them from the backup that occurred during the iOS5 upgrade - can someone suggest how I can do that?  Or any other ideas?
    Thanks for your help.

Contacts are not completely backed up as part of the iPhone backup.  Only contacts necessary to back up your recent call and favorites lists are backed up, which often won't include all your contacts.  (In fact, if the IT person backed up and then restored your phone from backup that may be how he lost many of your contacts.)  Also, restoring from backup will revert all settings and data on your phone to those contained in the backup.  If you want to try to restore from your backup anyway follow this procedure:
Before connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer, go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent…from syncing automatically"
Now connect your phone to your computer and import your photos to avoid losing any recent photos (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083)
Open iTunes and when your phone appears on the left sidebar, right-click on its name and choose Transfer Purchases (to transfer any recent purchased into your iTunes library)
Right-click on the name of her phone again and choose Restore from Backup, choosing the backup you wish to restore from
When this completes you can go back and re-enable automatic syncing if you prefers this

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    or here:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • The order of phone numbers changes in iphone

I list phone numbers in Contacts in the order that I want them to appear, but the oder changes once they are in the iphone. The contacts show up correctly on my computer and in Mobile Me but different on the iphone. I have the current OS on my phone.
For example, each person with multiple phone numbers there is usually an order of which number is best to reach that person. For some people the first place to try and reach them would be their mobile number, for business associates I might want to call them at work first before trying them at a different number.
Another example is my husband. I want our home phone on top, his regular mobile number listed next, and he has a back up mobile phone for emergencies. Annoyingly, the back up mobile number is what shows up on the iphone as his first phone number.
I've asked about this in my "One to One" appointments and they told me to check with Mobile Me. I checked the mobile me support and they say it has to be a iphone issue. I have had two different 3G iphones and both did this. I've tried to work around this by deleting the entire address book and then importing all fresh info and this doesn't help. It is also random, it is not consistently putting any particular group on top.
I would really appreciate a solution.
    thanks

  • How do i display phone numbers from Contacts in large type?

The phone numbers displayed in Contacts are difficult to read for old eyes.  How do I display them in a large font size so I can read them without glasses?  Is there a setting or an alternate app that can do that?

The only thing that I know of is Settings -> General ->Accessability -> Zoom
With that on, when you tap the screen twice using 3 fingers, the whole screen zooms.  I've tried the "Large Text" feature, but it does nothing to the phone numbers in contacts, just the text portions.

  • Need help finding the format bar in numbers

I am new to using Numbers.  Am trying to create a new document, but unlike Excel, I can not find a format toolbar where I could make corrections to text.  What am I missing?  Can someone tell me how to add the format toolbar in Numbers.  Using latest iMac, system, and iWorks, thanks

SGIII: the Dock is just an alias. Whatever you use to access the document, it is always the document itself: it stays one document. Every editing is in that same file.
    Hi LexShellings,
I'm not sure that description is entirely true.  There is more than one copy of the document. The way I understand it, documents stored in iCloud are (obviously) on Apple's servers and also, on each Mac or iOS devices with that iCloud account, a separate copy is stored in a special local folder whose contents are synced automatically to Apple's servers.
When you make a change on the Mac you are changing the copy stored in the local folder Library > Mobile Documents > com~Apple~Numbers.  Then daemons come along and sync that local copy with the document up in the cloud.
Same with changes made on iOS devices.  A copy of the document is stored in a special local folder. The contents of that folder is synced up to Apple's servers.
So if you want a document stored in iCloud to show up on the Dock, you can just drag it from Library > Mobile Documents > com~Apple~Numbers to the Dock, because, as you point out, an alias is automatically created whenever you drag something to the Dock.
If you want the iCloud document to show up in your Documents folder, though, you need to first make an alias of the copy stored in Library > Mobile Documents > com~Apple~Numbers and drag that alias to Documents.
My personal preference is still to open a document from within the application. Fewer things to go wrong and I that way I can also be sure I am opening it with the correct version of Numbers.

    My questions:
    1. Can the directory of phone numbers with in my iPhone be transferred to the Panasonic and retain the individual number designations; i.e., "home-moblie-work-etc"?
    2. Can I use the manual select on the Panasonic to selectively transfer numbers from my iPhone?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Has any of this been tried?
FYI, there are no viruses that affect iOS unless the device has been hacked or jailbroken, in which case they cannot be discussed here.

  • Is there any way to turn off Contacts' automatical formating of phone numbers?

Address Book's telephone fields used to be free text. You could format the phone number as desired and add comments if needed. Contacts automatically format phone number according to the ten-digit phone number (area code plus 7 digit number). If the content of a phone field does not conform to this format, the contents are all pushed together, removing any spaces that you may have entered.
In many countries that required formating is inappropriate. Besides, it limits your freedom to add important details, like "Do not call after 7PM," etc.
There seems no way to turn this automatical formating.

The format for South African numbers is wrong!
    Contacts uses: +27 (xx) yyyyyyy
Firstly the dialing code is no longer optional (for at least five years) so the brackets make no sense. Also, almost everyone uses the grouping of 3 digits then 4 digits - including official phone books.
Its should be +27 xx yyy zzzz
(I would also like the the auto-formatting to be optional as some other countries are crazy too).
Is posting something here enough to get the attention of developers?
